The Grand Salon, also called the Sundari throne room, was a vast chamber within the Sundari Royal Palace in Sundari, Mandalore. It served many functions, primarily as Duchess Satine Kryze's throne room, but also as a council chamber.

Description[]

The vast[2] Grand Salon[1] chamber, also known as the Sundari throne room,[5] was the seat of Mandalorian power during the days of the late Republic Era. Located within the capital city of Sundari on the planet Mandalore, the room saw use by Duchess Satine Kryze, the reigning monarch of the pacificist New Mandalorians.[2] When the Mandalorian Government Council was in session, they sat in chairs arranged before the throne.[6] The terrorist and warrior-based Death Watch Mandalorians later claimed control over Mandalore, with Death Watch leader Pre Vizsla claiming the Grand Salon in the process. When the rogue Sith Lord Maul then took over Death Watch from Vizsla, he continued to make use of the Grand Salon, reigning as ruler of Mandalore from the throne room[3] and also standing as leader of the Shadow Collective criminal alliance.[4]

Maul claimed control of Mandalore and ruled from the throne room.

During the Clone Wars, due to Mandalore's status as neutral ground, the Grand Salon housed a failed attempt at an accord between the leaders of the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems to end the conflict.[1] As the seat of Mandalorian power, the throne room was the location for a number of duels and skirmishes as various factions jostled for control of Mandalore[7] after Death Watch's takeover[3] in 19 BBY.[8] First, it was the site of a duel between Maul and Pre Viszla that ended in Maul claiming control over the world.[3] Later, Satine was killed there by Maul in front of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Shortly after Satine's death, Darth Sidious arrived on Mandalore, when he engaged in a duel with Maul and Savage Opress, killing Opress then defeating and capturing his former apprentice.[7]

In 19 BBY,[8] Maul returned to Mandalore after being freed from captivity by Mandalorian super commandos; however, he hid out in the Undercity and left his governing puppet, Prime Minister Almec, in the throne room. During the Siege of Mandalore, the Nite Owls infiltrated the throne room and captured Almec there.[4] Maul and Ahsoka Tano dueled in the throne room, before continuing their fight in the rafters of the city dome.[9]
