"Better have my protocol droid standing by."
"Your Brilliancy will recall that he was, ah, reassigned when his translation of your joke about the three Hardex and the bantha failed to amuse the Hardexian ambassador."
―Craw and Steggus[1]

The Hardex were a sentient species[1] native to the Hardex system in the Jubilar sector of the Outer Rim Territories.[2][3] At some point by 5.5 BBY,[4] the Hardex sent an ambassador to the Targonnian leader Craw. Craw told a joke involving three Hardex and a bantha to the ambassador. However, when the leader's protocol droid translated the joke for the ambassador, they did not find it amusing. Consequently, Craw had the protocol droid deactivated and repurposed into a water fountain.[1] In 5.5 BBY,[4] the Targonnian captain Steggus reminded Craw of the joke and the ambassador's reaction to it.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Hardex were mentioned in the sixth issue of the comic-book series Star Wars: Droids, which was written by Jan Strnad and released by Dark Horse Comics[1] on October 31, 1995.[5]
