"There, the Royal Script still graces the Palazzo Reina and other buildings dating to the rule of Queen Tasia, and is used on street signs in the capital's Old Quarter."
―Doctor Milanda Vorgan[2]

The Palazzo Reina was a palace located on the planet Grizmallt that was built during the reign of Queen Elsinoré den Tasia,[2] which began by 3950 BBY and ended in approximately 3900 BBY.[1] The Palazzo was adorned with the Royal Script of Grizmallt and contained a room called the Heroine Hall.[2]

Between 21 BBY and 18 BBY,[3] Queen Apailana[2] of the planet Naboo[4] made a state visit to Grizmallt during which she visited the Palazzo Reina, accompanied by Senator Jar Jar Binks. The Gungan senator was familiar with the Naboo writing system Futhark, a descendant from the Royal Script of Grizmallt, leading him to famously misinterpret the name of the Heroine Hall as "Hero in Hell." The incident was recorded in "The Written Word: A Brief Introduction to the Writing Systems of Galactic Basic" by Doctor Milanda Vorgan.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

"The Palazzo Reina is a tip of the hat to Dan Wallace's would-be "Reina Tasia" retcon, which he describes in this blog post. Thus, one would probably read "Palazzo Reina" roughly as "Queen's Palace.""
―John Hazlett[5]

The Palazzo Reina was mentioned in "The Written Word," an in-universe article written by John Hazlett and published on Hyperspace, a subscription feature on StarWars.com,[2] on March 5, 2010.[6] Hazlett chose the name of the Palazzo in reference[5] to a backstory created by author Jason Fry for the cancelled reference book The Essential Guide to Episode I, where Fry planned to establish that Queen Tasia had seeded several colonies throughout the galaxy that used Spanish influence in their naming conventions as an Easter egg.[7] As such, Hazlett specified that the Palazzo Reina could be translated as "Queen's Palace."[5]
