1939 was the tenth and final year of the 1930s and the thirty-eighth year of the 20th century.
On Earth, World War II begins this year.[1]
When ground quakes start to shake Krypton. Jor-El, Mia and Lo-Di; members of the Kryptonian Science Council, began a scientific study of Krypton's core, and they learned that internal stresses were going to cause the planet to one day explode, although they still didn't know when.[2]
