These days I have done a few more botanical imprints mainly with gerbra flowers and sewed into pouches. I can't recall how many pieces of leather imprints I have done and made into purses. A few of my signatures below....... They're made with sheep leather and pig leather. Some are stiff some are so soft. It's not easy to buy appropriate leathers for botanical imprints locally. Q: How does this work?
A: Plants are laid on top of damp, pretreated fabric. The fabric and plants are tightly rolled onto a pipe or dowel then bundled with string or fabric. The bundle is placed over water and steamed to transfer the natural dyes from the plants to the fabric. ✨

Q: Don’t the prints just wash away?
A: If the fabric is properly pretreated with the correct mordants, the dyes will be bound to the fabric and will withstand wash & wear. Each dye plant contains a unique mixture of phytochemicals that have varying levels of colorfastness.
