Think of it as an opportunity to teach instead of punish. They are struggling with a concept. This seems like a love method mindset. Teach, set rules and expectations, model behavior, make it visible with charts, use choice & accountability and responsibility. Be consistent. Teach about feelings and appropriate behaviors. Give them something to reach for. Have goals and reward when appropriate.
