Assassin's Creed: Hexe Won't be an RPG; It Will Also be Smaller

AC Hexe is one of the more interesting games announced at this year's Ubisoft Forward. It is another title in the series that departs from the RPG formula.

Very little is known about Assassin's Creed Hexe (provisional name) so far, except that it will be the darkest part of the series and that Germany, at the height of the popularity of witches and black magic, has most likely been chosen as the setting. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the studio that launched the Assassin's Creed series, and also took part in the creation of many installments of the series.

In interviews for VGC and IGN Marc-Alexis Cote, producer at Ubisoft, revealed a little more information about the recently announced games. In this post, we'll focus on a title with the working name Hexe.

Hexe - will the game be a horror?

From the interviews, we learn that AC Hexe, just like AC Mirage, will not be an RPG, and Ubisoft's series will experiment with other genres.

"One of the things we learned from Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla, is that we don't need to release an RPG every year," says Cote in the interview with VGC.

"I think our approach with Infinity will enable us to have different experiences, of different sizes. Not everything has to be a 150-hour RPG, you know?," explains Cote in the interview with IGN.

Cote did not confirm exactly how long will AC Hexe be or what genre it will belong to, but it looks like it will be a smaller title than recent installments. Ubisoft wants to create different types of games in this universe, with the possibility of supporting them in the long term, through a kind of hub known as the Assassin's Creed Infinity. We already know that Assassin's Creed Red (that's also the working name) will be an open-world RPG, so it's safe to assume that it's Hexe that will become the title that will try to bring a fresh gameplay style to the series.

"Hexe will provide a different experience in terms of gameplay and structure. That will eventually come out as we reveal more," says Cote in the interview with VGC.

We are left to wait for more details, but the short trailer of the game definitely promises a darker atmosphere, and also suggests the presence of witches and black magic in the game.

Hexe - how long will we wait?

Cote also tells us that AC Hexe will appear further in the future, but in a similar time period as AC Red, i.e. we will probably wait until 2025. In addition, the price of the games will depend on their length, which means more cheaper products, and Ubisoft will sometimes offer players free content to encourage constant returns to the Assassin adventures.
