Not Only Elden Ring Conquered the Market. FromSoftware's Latest Game Sold in Millions of Copies

FromSoftware's result for the past fiscal year was worse than for the previous one, but Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon sold surprisingly well.

FromSoftware had a weak fiscal year last year. The developers of Elden Ring and the Dark Souls series reportedly made 103.2 million dollars in revenue, 29% less than the previous year (via Serkan Toto on X / gamebiz). The operating profit decreased by 50% in the last fiscal year, which ended on March 31, 2024. However, the operating profit margin remained at a high level (42.5%).

There is no need to look far for the cause of these declines. Although Elden Ring was released before the start of fiscal 2022, it contributed significantly to FromSoftware achieving incredible financial results in 2023. The impressive success of ER not only affected the studio but also impacted the entire video game segment of Kadokawa - the last 12 months performed poorly compared to the results achieved at that time, despite decent sales.

Among the titles released in the already concluded fiscal year, another FromSoftware game led the way. Sale of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon exceeded 3 million copies. It's not much compared to Elden Ring, but the result was better than Kadokawa expected. This applies to sales both in Japan and worldwide.

The current decline is simply a return to normal, or even a slightly improved state, after a phenomenal year. Besides, there is a good chance that this fiscal year will make up for these "losses." We also know that the long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is doing great. Just a few days after the premiere, the expansion surpassed the result of the sixth Armored Core, selling 5 million copies.

Both the DLC and the "base game" have been on the list of Steam's biggest bestsellers for weeks. Elden Ring itself is currently in the top ten, even though there is no sale for it (the title was discounted during the Steam Summer Sale).
