JL has been talking since she was about seven months old. To those who know her it comes as no surprise, in fact, most will tell you she hasn’t shut up since. At eighteen months, she was speaking in full sentences. Imagine if you will the surprise of her admirers when they complimented her mother on “what a cute little boy” she had and received a fierce glare from said little boy and a very loud correction of “I’m a girl!” Oddly enough, JL still finds herself saying that exact phrase thirty-some-odd years later.

Along with the motormouth, JL also displayed a very vivid imagination and artistic ability. The artist first surfaced in way of drawing and painting, then became more apparent with dance. JL was a member of the National Art Honor Society in high school and has won several regional and national titles in dance, specifically tap and jazz. In college she majored in Graphic Art, but chose to make dance her profession. She taught tap, jazz and ballet for fifteen years before settling into her career as a writer.

Today JL is a full-time writer, with over ten novels to her credit. Among her hobbies she includes reading, practicing her marksmanship (she happens to be a great shot), gardening, working out (although she despises cardio), searching for the perfect chocolate dessert (so far as she can tell ALL chocolate is perfect, but it requires more research) and arguing with her husband over who the air compressor and nail gun really belongs to (they belong to JL, although she might be willing to trade him for his new chainsaw).

She also writes under the name Jeigh Lynn

4.5 Hearts!

Seriously, this just keeps getting better and better!

It pains me to know that this might be the only series of its kind - a space opera steeped heavily in military royalty espionage, all against a backdrop of a society that holds to Regency rules, unless somebody knows differently?? Anybody??

Regardless, this time around focuses on Prince Colton, who has finally resigned himself to the fact that Lord Sebastian Wentworth, aka a notorious rake, is never going to notice him, and that Colton simply needs to move on with his life. If only…

What Colton doesn't know is that Sebastian basically feels unworthy to even contemplate being his consort and thus, the situation is moot. However, it soon becomes apparent to Sebastian that the boy has grown into a damn beautiful man that he can no longer ignore, nor does he want to.

Luckily, many a circumstance and two wonderfully mischievous dads (and their various co-conspirators) work hard to bring Colton and Sebastian together. Such humorous levity that includes a fabulous ensemble cast, juxtaposes the more serious main mystery of the series, balancing things out wonderfully to make this a really fun and entertaining installment!

Fear not, there’s plenty of strict societal rules ready to be broken, with forbidden stolen kisses and fervent secret groping. This was especially extra fraught with feels, adding depth to the reliable hot UST and smexy smex, all intermingled with my favorite turmoil of insecurity, jealousy, and doubt. Yum!

So again, consistently delicious, sink-your-teeth-in goodness, blending scifi and historical genres perfectly on a futuristic planet all about men loving men.

Propriety that begs to be dismantled was never stripped so sweetly than in this series. Mmmm hmmm. I can hardly wait for the next!

Thank you to the author/publisher for a copy in exchange for a honest review

Seeing your life-long crush getting a BJ from another guy might be a tad upsetting. You know, if you're sensitive that way. So Prince Colton finally realizes that maybe, just maybe, his crush isn't in to him.

Is this worse than being friend-zoned? I can't tell.

So, of course Colton moves on and stops being all heart-eyed around his older crush. Well, giiiirrrll, you know there isn't anything a guy hates more than losing an adoring fan who lifts his self-esteem by having a massive crush on him. He's immediately intrigued. It took exactly one interaction for the crush to suddenly want him after poor Colton has finally given up.

Never underestimate the power of "the takeaway". My dad was in sales and taught me, during a crushing heartache, that it is human nature to want what you can't have. So, you have someone who is taking you for granted? You take yourself away from them. They cannot handle losing something they assumed was theirs for whenever they felt like it. And that is exactly what Colton did and the crush responded to... Although, Colton was pretty quick to give in. Still - never doubt the power of the takeaway!

Um... not exactly what Daddy meant. Also, is that real fur? I'm feeling a little red-painty if so.

So these two crazy kids finally get together and bond over their mutual love of horses. There are also balls and intrigue and bad guys. Overall, not enough space stuff for a sci-fi, but still good.

I love this series and this book. It has this perfect mix: Sci-Fi, historical elements and a wonderful array of characters. I love Conny and Steven - their whole relationship and the shenanigans they get up to. The whole family is at times hilarious but the bond they all have is lovely.

Here the focus of the story was more on the personal relationship development between two noble men and how high society can affect it and not on intergalactic issues like previous books. It's mentioned some but mostly this follows Colton and Sebastian: their personal life, secrets and how they come to be together. Some moments are funny, some tender and some are very passionate. There are some slight misspells but they didn't spoil my enjoyment.

The ending was very dramatic and somewhat unexpected. I loved when Sebastian finally told Colton about his past, and there was that 'expressing their feelings' moment that turned me into mush. *sigh*

All in all, a delightful addition to the series that I will happily continue to read. I recommend it!

This will take me a while.

And so it did.

Why a paltry three stars when I went directly into a read of book four?

Because there are nine (9) w-bombs. Because I'm really really really annoyed by the lapses in worldbuilding logic, eg Jeffers the royal AI butler can be ordered to leave a room with a royal in it!! NO!! And the "security" in this spacefaring civilization's societies is ludicrously behind what we have in the 21st century.

Regelence's Regency-society roots aren't making a lot of sense to me, but I'll ignore that if Author Langley will pinky-swear to never ever again write the words "As you know," and will recast the two sentences in here that contain the said offenses against readerly rights and forswear the horrid, stinking, ghastly, unrealistic use of the verb "to w-i-n-k" forever and ever amen.

But I really want to know who's paying for the IN and why.

Maybe it's me.....that's what I’ll go with because everyone seems seems to love this book, and my three stars feel generous compared to my experience reading this.

What was missing for me that would have really rocked this book was UST. Langley totally missed the boat on this one. Yes, we know that Colton has been pinning for Captain Sebastian Wentworth for years. Now Sebastian suddenly realizes that he's attracted to the young man. So whats the first thing he does? No, he doesn't try to contain his feelings, he doesn't try to deny the attraction, he doesn't let any tension build. He goes and kisses him without any build-up. It sucked. And not in the good way.

Something else that didn't work for me was the lack of a glossary for all the characters. How am I supposed to remember who everyone is from the first and second books (which I read a while ago), without a list with their titles, etc? Langley doesn't even provide reminders for the reader as to who is who. This book only works if you binge read the series.

This book had a third POV--that of the king's. It was weird and it was all devoted to immature matchmaking. I didn't get it and it seemed superfluous.

The Mystery and the IN angle didn't work here.

Sebastian's big secret didn't seem that big.

What I liked: Colton being a bossy virgin.

I'm tempted to give up on this series because this book resulted in way too many eye-rolls.

I've enjoyed all of this series of books. The translation of Regency society on Regelence is interesting in the constraints it puts on the characters. This book was more about the backgrounds and interactions of various characters and less about the adventure/mystery plot than the previous two. The glimpses of other characters, particularly Steven and Raleigh, were some of the highlights of this story. There were some very nice moments, like Aiden's drawings, and I look forward to the next one. Steven and Raleigh prequel please?

YEAH YOU, YOU RAKE RAKE RAKE ME...

(Sorry, can't think of any headline!)
Really liked this one! While I didn't liked The Englor Affair's ending, I melted on the ending of this one. Too bad there's no epilogue.

I might sound a broken record here, because this one is also well-written. Langley's writing is very easy to read. I just realized that this series, she mixed on traditions to futuristic environments, which I appreciate.

Characters, really liked them again!

Colton is the fourth of the Townsend princes. He is infatuated to Sebastian since he was a teen. But an incident made him decide to quit crushing on Sebastian. He loves horses and riding. Which will eventually the common interest he and Sebastian will share. He is likable. Between him, Aiden and Payton, he's the one who one doesn't mind to socialize. On bed, he is very passionate. I liked him. For me, he might be the hottest out of the three Townsend MCs.

Sebastian is Captian of the Royal Guards. He's been with the Townsend Castle for years. He knew Colton is infatuated in him for the longest time but he didn't took notice. Until Colton ignored him. He has a bad reputation though, like he was a man-whore or something. He was once married, to Giles, who didn't treat him that well. So he has fear on commitments. He chose to help Colton on his horse breeding business plans which gotten them closer. He was former Special Forces. So he is damn sexy. Have I told you he's a big guy? With big feet? ;) (You know what I mean)

At the beginning I'm not sure how will I liked him. But by the end, I just wanna hug him, tell everything's gonna be okay. Then kiss him on the lips, neck, stomach, then down to the...

Okay! Moving on...

I liked the new secondary characters here. I liked Rourke. But I think the others were underdeveloped. Nate and Aiden had a lot of appearances here. I missed Payton and Simon though. Oh yeah, I almost forgot Rexley and Trouble, they're adorable!

Can I have a special mention? I ADORE STEVEN AND RALEIGH! Damn! Even though Steven is a meddling bastard, I love him! I don't mind if my dad would meddle like that to me. Well not force marry me, but at least match make me. Lol!

To Ms. Langley, PREQUEL PLEASE!

The story begins where The Englor Affair left. Colton has a long time crush with Sebastian. And he is nineteen now. But he found Seb having sexy time with a lover in a garden, he decided to stop pining for him. Which Sebastian noticed, and Seb in return seek Colton's attention back. Colton then focused on building his horse raising business. In a horse auction an incident happened that involved him and Sebastian that spawned rumors than tainted Colton's rep. In an act to protect Colton, Seb asked him to marry him, even when he hadn't realized his feelings for him. As they become closer, Sebastian wonders if Colton will still accept him if he tells to Colton everything about his past, which terrified him.

For me, out of the three Sci-Regency books, this one turn out to be the sweetest. And I liked it. Seb's pursuit to Colton, their first lovemaking, their relationship, it was all tooth-achingly sweet.

There were a lot of great scenes here that shows how the Townsend family are close. Aiden's talk with Colton before his wedding is just damn funny. Poor Nate.

I came to like the whole Sci-Regency series already. But if you ask me, I liked With or Without series more. But this one is still good.

I would recommend this as a good, sweet, and sexy M/M Romance read. Enjoy!

Have you ever read a Harlequin romance...

well me neither, but I remember when I was a kid my mom loved them and so did the mom's of a few of my friends. I had a friend who also loved reading Harlequin romance novels and I remember her reading some of the novels from their regency romance collection and I imagine that those stories bore a strong resemblance to the stories of Ms. Langley's 'Sci-Regency' series and while I still have no interest in Harlequin's regency collection I am unapologetically a fan of this series.

For me each story has consistently gotten better. When I first read 'My Regelence Rake' several years ago I thoroughly enjoyed the game of chase played by Prince Colton and rake extraordinaire...Captain of the Guard, Sebastian Hastings are playing with one another and when it came across my radar that it was on audio well...you guessed it I was all in. Joseph Morton has narrated the first 3 books in this series and so far I've thoroughly enjoyed his narrations and the life he's breathed into these absolutely delightful Sci-fi Romance Adventure stories.

As Captain of the Guard Sebastian is responsible for the safety of the entire royal family and as things move forward in the mystery plot of this series between the planets Regelence, Englor and the IN (Interglactic Navy) the danger to the Regelence's royal family grows but too many questions are remain for anyone to be sure where the next threat will come from and one thing Sebastian knows for sure is that he takes his duties very seriously and none of the royal family will come to harm on his watch but especially not Prince Colton.

Meanwhile Colton's decided that the crush that he's nurtured for so many years is pointless because Sebastian's never going to notice him...but Colton's wrong because Sebastian's biggest problem is just how much he's noticed the young Prince and how much more he wants to notice.

I loved the relationship between these two it was nothing if not challenging for both of them but when you throw in a little interference from the royal parents it was also inevitable.

The 'Sci-Regency' series is a light and enjoyable read. These are not the deep and complex plots of many sci-fi stories but stories meant to entertain and capture the readers imagination as the author takes you to new and unusual places such as Regelence and Englor.

Admittedly there are probably a number of inconsistencies and errors in these stories but for me these are stories that I read to enjoy, their what I would call a light read...maybe even a summer read or beach read or in this case a light listen. So when all is said and done if I'm looking to simply enjoy the story why would I go looking for mistakes and inconsistencies; it kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it?

There is tons of mystery, but none of it is very well explored. I wish there was less sex and more backstory on some of the characters, as well as information on IN and the plot against the planet.

Although the book doesn't have a cliffhanger, the ending implies continuation of the series. It's rushed and feels abrupt. Despite a HEA, the final chapter does not give off a happy, content feeling.

3.5 stars

Has it really been FOUR YEARS since the second book in this series came out? It seems so. I read this series back when I first started reading m/m in early 2010 and it has remained at the top of a very competitive list of all time favorite series. I've been so excited to read it that I spent all day yesterday reading as soon as I got the book, eager to read more about the royal family, the amazingly awesome world and to find out more about the overarching plot that was left up in the air at the end of the last book. The problem with waiting so long for a book is that it's almost impossible to live up to the overlong expectations. While it mostly did, I still found some problems with it that didn't work for me and left me unsatisfied, especially since I don't know how long I'll have to wait to get more of the story. Part of that is that I have much higher standards now than I did when I read the first two books -- if I read them now they might not be five star reads, I'm honestly not sure. Overall, though, I liked it and it was wonderful to go back to this world and visit these characters who I really love.

Colton, the fourth child of the King and King-Regent of Regelence has watched two of his brothers make love matches. He could only dream that the man he has fallen in love with as he's grown up could ever feel the same for him and that they could have a similar life together. The problem is that the man Colton loves, Sebastian (known as Wentworth for the name of his previous husband) is a rake and has quite the reputation of bedding easy men. That reputation, combined with his seeming disregard for Colton's rather obvious feelings, convinces Colton to take charge of his life, especially after witnessing Wentworth in a compromising position with another man at a ball. He decides to give up his pitiful unrequited romance and devote himself to a new career -- the breeding of racehorses.

The change in Colton's behavior puzzles Sebastian. As the Captain of the Guard, he knows the royal family well and the new Colton along with his now direct and driven behavior (not in his direction, as he is used to) worries him. Trying to guard Colton is more difficult now that he has changed and he sees him differently than before. Colton, like his brothers, has a problem with getting into trouble, and Sebastian is the type of trouble that a prince should be kept away from.

Through their dance of attraction, his own heavily guarded secrets threaten to come to light, along side a possible danger to Colton. Combined with the escalating tension among the political alliances of the government and the danger to his own family, the situation is set to explode in one way or another.

Maybe I don't remember the first two books well enough (it has been a long time since I read them), but my biggest problem with this book was there was just so much going on. So much of the story is devoted to the relationship between Colton and Sebastian that there is very little time for the overall plot arc to move forward. This saddened me because there are continuing references to things about to happen that seemed to get pushed off to the next book. I felt like… I had to wait so long to read more of this series and then I only got teasers. How much longer will I have to wait for a progression in the series? That's not to say that the story itself wasn't good. It works really well as a standalone book, I just wanted more of the overall plot.

The best part of reading this book, for me, was simply returning to this world. I absolutely adore the characters -- all the brothers and the consorts a few of them have (esp. Nate, from the first book, I LOVE Nate). Then there is Trouble and Rexley, the brothers' father and sire who are one of my favorite couples of the series even though they haven't gotten their own book (I would love to read it though!). They really have a lot of fun, which I like. You can tell that they're really a family who loves each other. The world itself is fun to read about and would never get old for me.

I thought the relationship between Colton and Sebastian worked really well. They deal with a lot of the issues you'd encounter in a contemporary story and the story is really focused on their relationship, with only little pieces of narration throughout the story from other POVs. There is a steadily building tension throughout the story. Their relationship is founded on secrets and lies, something that we know but Colton doesn't. The pressure builds and builds over the story, teasing up and up with all the other serious things going on. Sadly, in the end, it just didn't seem like a big deal to me. The ending fizzled. It really couldn't deliver unless Sebastian was hiding something utterly horrible because there is so much emphasis put on his secret and his past. That rather anticlimactic revelation along with the absence of more information about their trouble with the I.N. made me a little upset with the ending. Perhaps I wouldn't be as disappointed if I knew I might find out in a few months, or even within a year, but I'm afraid it will be at least another one or two years, maybe even more. I can't fault this author for her writing pace, but it does make it difficult to become invested in a series that is rarely updated. For me to be satisfied to wait, I wanted to be given a little more.

I know that nearly everyone who reads m/m will be reading this book and there will be nearly as many opinions, but I have to say that even though 80% of the book (roughly) was really satisfying to read, the last 20% let me down because my expectations had grown so high, because of both the wait and the lead up during the story. The story was really enjoyable to read either way. I hope that your opinion differs, I truly do, but I'd say everyone should read it anyway, and I know that almost all of you will be, very soon. :)

J.L. Langley has created a fascinating world in her Sci-Regency series, and I’m glad to say My Regelence Rake has all the action, romance, and fun of the first two books. This scenario is a winner: virgin prince marries experienced older man…. Oh yes, it works for me every time! Just a note, this is the third in a continuing series, so start with My Fair Captain and read these books in order.

Between dodging the attentions of young Prince Colton, and his job as captain of the palace guards, Sebastian spends the rest of his time seducing men and honing his bedroom skills. I see the appeal, he is definitely an engaging character; though with the skeletons in Sebastian’s closet it’s no wonder he’s given up on finding happiness and love.

Colton grew up in a loving family with two affectionate parents and he knows that’s the kind of relationship he wants as well. After crushing on the handsome older man for years, Colton finally gives up when he sees first hand that Sebastian is only interested in loose and easy men. It shows how strong Colton is, he knows he’ll never be loose or easy and he’s not willing to change his values just to get his man.

The minute Colton starts to focus on his new goals you see the change in him, and so does Sebastian. With a renewed sense of purpose, Colton is more confident and mature; and the mutual attraction is obvious every time these two men cross paths.

As Sebastian spends more time with Colton there are some very interesting developments in his personality. Watching him move from wanton rake to devoted consort happens gradually, and I really enjoyed the way J.L. Langley explores Sebastian’s character. Once he embraces his feelings for Colton, and realizes how much he needs his love, he blossoms into a new man.

J.L. Langley always writes deliciously erotic love scenes, but she spices it up even more with this pairing. Both Colton and Sebastian are strong, dominant men and neither of them is going to bow down easily. When virginal Colton brings his “take charge” attitude to the bedroom, the effect it has on Sebastian is dramatic. This change in their dynamic puts the two men on an equal footing for the rest of the story.

At home on Regelence readers are treated to some great family scenes in this edition of the series. The camaraderie between the brothers is easy to see and the affection between the parents is heartwarming. I’d love to see Steven and Cony get a book, or at least a short story. With at least three more books planned for this series I’m looking forward to where J.L. Langley takes us next.

Sebastian and Colton's story went pretty well.

I didn't know much about Colton or Sebastian from the previous books so this provided the perfect avenue to find out more about them.

Colton, aside from his passion for horses wasn't much of an interesting character. I liked him well enough but he didn't excite me. Sebastian was more interesting but also not as much as I would've preferred him to be (considering his colourful past).

Once again the romance between our MCs was "pushed" forward by a scandal which seems to be the formula for every book in this series so far ( big scandal => marriage => steamy sexy times => "love"). Someway somehow it's worked so far but I do not know how long it can keep my attention if it persists. This is because it's now making the books quite predictable.

Even the angle with the IN scheming subplot seems to have taken a back seat. I hope in the next book this is fully explored and the romance more developed.

Whatever you think about this series you can't deny that J L Langley has a way of writing fun sexy stories that may not always tax the brain cells, but never fail to deliver highly on enjoyment and the feel good factor. I really love this series, it's been a clever twist on the Regency romp using some modern technology and DNA splicing to ensure a world where all the males are gay and homosexuality the norm - but still keeping the sensibilities of the Regency period , meaning we get the tattling rumour mongers of the ton, debutante balls and the young beautiful aristocracy caught in compromising positions with their hunky love interests - great fun and well plotted by Ms Langley.

Prince Colton's story with Lord Sebastian Hastings (rake and his long term crush ) didn't disappoint me at all, OK like in the other books they are ' forced ' by circumstance to marry even though they both fancy he pants off each other, you know the drill, but who cares - its a trope that most Regency romances use and it works for the style of story it is so I say " bring it on "! This book carries on the ongoing story with the mystery involving the IN and reintroduces us to all the guys who in both the other books we've come to know and love but also brings in some new characters, who no doubt will feature in the follow ups. It's a series that you will either 'get' or not. Don't over think these stories because they are not meant to be the next great classics, just enjoy them for what they are and you will get sexual tension, sexy men, some mystery and intrigue thrown in to up the ante, plus - of course - a guaranteed HEA.

To really understand the world that J L L has created you must start with book one - My Fair Captain then get The Englor affair - otherwise you'll have no idea what's going on apart from the romance. There are a lot of characters so you need to keep up with who's who. Can't wait for the next instalment. Brilliant!

I am sad. I had very high expectation from this book and they all were unfulfilled. It had good potential, really the whole concept of the plant which is stuck in Regency era lifestyle plus all high tech stuff battling for the preservation of unique life style in the intergalactic power struggle. Are you interested in very good sci-fi where intrigues and sex are on the high level? Pick another book and skip this one. The whole concept went in to drain and it ended on about 10 persons drama, which was not drama at all. I was hoping that something will happened...nothing did. The king's security service has similar problems with finding new men like typical small Tesco has. There was great deal of very funny and no intentional to be funny description of security problems with guarding all those bratty princes and one king plus his consort. This planet has unique male society with procreation technique which makes almost every men there gay, exceptions are peeking from time to time.
But back to the plot which only makes little sense. It was romance between Captain of the Guard and young prince Colton, which was little rusty and on my opinion too forced. Sadly all drama with the dark past and even darker future was not explored.

I did not consider my money wasted. I enjoyed myself, perhaps not to much but cover of the book improves my mood.

I hope that there will be next book from this arc, which will be better with the plot and better background. If so I am buying it:)

I loved this story had an "older" man, Sebastian, not realize at first that he was in love with one of his royal prince protectees as he is the head of the royal guard. The prince, Colton, knows horses. He gets in trouble for helping a horse that the current owner uses cruel means to make the horse walk in a particular gait better. Colton and Sebastian pressures the owner to sell it to Colton who want to start a new racing stable, has interfering relatives and friends and the horses become as much characters as the humans. the sex was good and the romance was there also. I love that the plot and action were both important to the author.

After the four year wait for this third book in the story of the Townsend family's lives and loves and given my love of the earlier stories of Aiden and Payton I so very much wanted Colton's story to knock my socks off. I am sad it didn't.

These books are m/m Regency mistoricals (TM Dear Author) in space. As such I do make allowances for things such as titles and the way people are addressed but this time around I felt them more jarringly than ever. The push towards collegiality and connection was at the expense of respectful communication. I think it also highlights poor world building. People don't go to the trouble of re-creating a Regency-style culture and society without believing in and wanting the outward representations of a hierarchical world to be part of their lives. I am also concerned by how white the worlds of Regelence and Englor seem to be. There is no world building explanation for this nor can I see a justification. The only security precautions taken around the family with all the heightened risk were only those necessary for the plot. I need to believe in the cleverness of the characters and for the risks to be real. Thin world building undermines the story and this reader's immersion and suspense of disbelief.

The loving familial and friendship relationships are skilfully shown. I enjoyed seeing Stephen and Cony together and Rexley relating to his brothers and to Trouble. I liked Colton and Sebastian as people and how they were as a couple but didn't see them struggle for their HEA (but then I also thought Payton in his story forgave Simon too quickly). The introduction of lots of potential partners seems to set the world up for further stories but over-peopled this one to Colton and Sebastian's detriment.

The overarching plot line of the worry of what is going on with the IN was carelessly handled at the same time as it dominated Sebastian and Colton's story.

Sebastian's past is actually a strong critique of Regelence society highlighting social tensions. In this Regency dreaming I don't have a sense of The Royal family's struggle and engagement with the tensions of their world and the challenges they face as a society. I think I need this as a justification for there to be an hereditary ruler.

The book felt hurriedly written to me and not up to what I know the author can do or to the effervescent and clever idea of her world.

Liked this book a lot. Not as much as the first two, but still really enjoyed it. One of the things I liked is that other characters got more air time than in previous books. The previous two books pretty much concentrated on the main characters. This one gave lots more insight into Steven and Raleigh. The overall plot of the IN thing didn't get advanced too much, but it did get some more detail. I thought the ending was a little abrupt though.

The WORST part though is what I'm sure will be a long wait till the next book. :(. JL Langley takes a very long time to write a book. If she could maybe fall somewhere between her regular duration and someone like Gabrielle Evans, who puts out a book every two weeks, that would be great. Because I really want to read more from this universe. Especially Steven/Raleigh and Rexley/Trouble.

4.5 stars, I LOVE this series, another great Langley book! I loved Colton and Sebastian but I also loved getting more of Steven and Raleighs relationship. To be vague, not to have to use a spoiler, I loved Aiden's drawings scene and Rexley and Trouble's meeting with Steven!

This ended so abruptly that for the past 2 days I kept forgetting that I had finished it. It didn’t have an epilogue like the other two. It was just as good otherwise. Maybe a bit better but I feel like I didn’t get enough of it. Now we need Terran!

3.5 stars.

I usually rate a book depending on my enjoyment of it and this would be a solid 4, because I could hardly put it down: it was a little bit comforting, a little bit sexy, a little bit funny, etc. That was the problem: it was a little bit of many things but not a lot.

Sebastian and Colton are a cute couple and I was sure this pairing would push all my buttons. Physically Colton is more imposing than his brothers and I was looking forward to an evenly matched couple. Sebastian, with his rough looks, the reputation of a rake and his common origins had all the qualities to make me swoon. Also Colton has been pursuing Sebastian since when he was an adolescent and that could give a certain edge to the story without veering into an inappropriate territory, because Colton is at the same time Sebastian's employer but also the person Sebastian has to protect. Everything was right, but in the end it wasn't as thrilling as I was expecting.

I never felt the voyeuristic interest I had in Aiden/Nate and Payton/Simon. I kept being distracted by the other couples. Rexley and Trouble promise an incredibly hot story, they're the improbable but perfect match. The couple that captivated me the most was King Steven and his Consort Raleigh. I liked the way they understood each other without having to speak and I loved their strong and mature love.

The spy/political story provides an interesting background to what happens, but I must confess I have no idea what that's all about and frankly I don't care so much. The plot about Sebastian's past was uneven, or unfocused in my opinion, and in the end it didn't build enough pathos.

I think the author seized the opportunity to show a couple where there is no clear dominant in the relationship, but I think she didn't back it up with protagonists who could feel deeply, or who could make me feel they were feeling deeply. Or maybe it was that I perceived Colton as the grown-up in the relationship and Sebastian the more immature and unresolved. Langley has always written a strong alpha man in this series, but none of them was, so in this balance I didn't find the edge I was looking for. When Colton took charge and Sebastian surrendered to the seduction of the innocent one, it was almost there, but Sebastian didn't show it. So, yeah, I think he was the not-so-satisfying character.

Also: the triple names were annoying, I mean, there were pages where the characters were called in three different ways in three paragraphs.

I'll keep on reading the series, but for me this book wasn't as memorable as the other two. Or maybe I'll appreciate it a bit more in the future, who knows, it sure is re-readable and a candidate to a good comfort read.

I'm so happy we finally got Colton and Lord Wentworth's story. Feels like we've been waiting for years, man. But it was definitely worth it. I just love these Townsend brothers. They're all so damned eccentric so each of the stories has been more fun than the last. I loved that we got to see the other characters we love without it feeling forced or like it was taking away from the rest of the story.
Wentworth is totally hot. I mean ex-military, captain of the royal guard, and all around badass chillin' in the gamehells and getting head from members of the ton out in the bushes at a house where they're having a ball.
And Colton is fun because he's stubborn and he is definitely not afraid to blurt out what's on his mind. He's like the stereotypical black girl "Why'd I see you outside the stables with that triflin' ho I seen you at the ball with?!" I love him.
I really need her to hurry the eff up with the mystery here though. She keeps leaving us hanging and it's fun, but it makes it very hard to enjoy the book if you hadn't read the previous ones immediately before it to remember wtf happened with the Regelence procreation technology. Oy.
But I loooooved it so much, like all JL Langley stuff. She always has just the right sex-to-story ratio. And holy god. I had forgotten how much I LOVE JL Langley's sex. Whew. 5 stars, girl

My favorite of the series so far! While the glimpses we got of Steven/Raleigh and Rexley/Trouble definitely contributed to my enjoyment of this one (and I totally have to add my vote for a Steven/Raleigh prequel!) I think I like this one more because I understand both Colton and Sebastian better than I could understand Nate or Simon.

I definitely understood Colton's gazing-from-afar, and even the disillusionment when he discovered Sebastian wasn't the perfect man he'd been imagining. I loved that he used that as the impetus to find a new focus for his life and that he was able to begin working developing himself into someone other than Colton-admirer-of-Sebastian.

And I thought Sebastian's reluctance to open up to Colton about his past was beautifully done, and well justified given what he'd been through.

I also loved how balanced their relationship was. How equal they were, even with things like seduction. It was fun to see Sebastian the "rake" be taken so off-guard.

Rexley and Jeremy/Trouble are still totally my favorite couple though! I cannot wait until their book!

The plot definitely thickens in this third installment of the ‘Sci-Regency’ series, though the series arc is more of a background setting and I ended up with more questions than answers at the end of the book. J.L. Langley has done a great job pulling me even more deeply into this world with its Regency-era society that exists in the far future – aristocracy and monarchs are in charge of entire planets, military careers start in the Intergalactic Navy and continue in planetary military forces, and societal restrictions and morals are very much an accepted part of life. Picking up where ‘The Englor Affair’ left off, this time the focus is on Prince Colton, third son of Regelence’s ruling couple, and Sebastian, captain of the Royal Guard and a viscount with a dark secret in his past. A scandal forces them much closer than either man is comfortable with at first, but it forces both of them to reconsider some basic assumptions about life and each other.

I've waited and anticipated this book for so long, too long, that's it's incredible. I was ecstatic to see all my fav characters from the book return into this one and I couldn't have asked for more cause JL covered it. A long read, but really who can get enough? Not moi!

JL tapped into every aspect that we enjoy. Well I do at least. She incorporated all the characters, but in the sex scenes she didn't go into details with them all but rather stuck to those scenes with the two main characters being Colton and Sebastian. Their first time together was tender and touched you in every which way. You can say you 'felt' it :snickering: Pun intended here. I felt JL put her all into this book and it wasn't rushed. No shit :grumbling:

She gave us the right amount of action, humor, and keeps the flow and plot very interesting.

I truly hope there's more of these story to come and we won't have to wait as long this time? Hopeful thinking, I know. One can always hope :winks:

Well written, well edited, well-drawn characters- I liked it. It was fun and enjoyable.

It ended like the Harlequin Romance it emulates. I rate well-written Harlequins at 3 stars.

For more stars- something remarkable has to happen and the relationship of the MC's needs to be poignant and vibrant. This story didn't reach this additional level for me. {shrug}

It seems like I've been waiting for this book forever. It didn't disappoint me at all. I loved the way the relationship developed between the two heroes and REALLY loved revisiting characters from the previous books! I hope we don't have to wait as long until the next book in the series.

*Reread in March of 2017*

Still loved it. Wished she would write faster!

J.L. Langley is one of the few authors I go gaga over. Based on her Sci-Regency books, particularly My Fair Caption, she has opened my mind and introduced me to an incredible world of such possibility. She’s one of the few authors who has not only molded me as a reader, but as a writer, and has shown in so many ways that love is a beautiful thing in whatever form it takes. First of all, you wouldn’t think a combination of Sci-Fi and Regency Historical Romance would work well together. But, in J.L. Langley’s hands it does. Also in this world, homosexuality is the norm on the planet of Regelence where men marry men, have children together (through scientific means) and embody the Regency England lifestyle and ethical code.

My Fair Captain was my gateway into reading M/M romance and finding a bearded hero, with that of Intergalactic Navy Captain Nate Hawkins so amazingly sexy, (including his top secret special piercing) as well falling for Adien Townsend, his shy, younger artistic husband. In The Englor Affair we saw Adien’s brother Payton and Marine Colonel Simon Hollister tumble into love, and now in My Regelence Rake, Adien’s younger brother Colton falls for the man he has loved for years-the Captain of the Kings’ Guards, Lord Sebastian Hastings.

Colton is a prince, one of four to King Steven and his Consort (husband) Raleigh “Cony” Townsend. Colton is the middle son and on the cusp of manhood. Colton loves horses and horse breeding and wants to own his own stable and race horses. He’s had a crush on Sebastian for years but Sebastian barely notices him. The one night while at a ball he spies Sebastian being pleasured by another man and that breaks his heart in two. From now on he’ll concentrate on his horsing venture and push Sebastian from his heart and mind.

Sebastian has always been fond of Colton, but never recognizing his attraction to him until Colton starts ignoring him or acts far too polite when before he was overly friendly. Also Colton has a bad habit of going off alone unchamperoned, which is something unmarried men in this society don’t do. Sebastian takes it upon himself to watch over to Colton, to Colton’s dismay. Sebastian can’t stop thinking about Colton and ends up kissing him, which in turns makes Sebastian want more from him. They find out a horse is being abused by a Viscount Leith, who Sebastian has an unfortunate past with, and buy the horse from Leith at a very low price to save the horse. Leith vows revenge against both men for making him look like a fool. Soon there’s talk of Colton and Sebastian stealing the horse and being lovers. Colton is giving the direct cut from society, and because of it, Sebastian has no choice but to marry Colton. He cares for Colton but is afraid his marriage to the prince will fail like his first marriage and the proof about his birth and who he really is will come to light.

What both men don’t realize is that they have been manipulated by Colton’s father Steven who thinks both men are perfect for one another. He believes theirs’ is a love match in the making like he had with Raleigh, who still makes him burn after all the years they’ve been married. But his concentration is also on a shadowy figure who’s watching and stalking him for no reason he can think of. Not only does he want Colton and Sebastian to admit their feelings for one another, but he must figure out why he’s being targeted and who’s behind it before anyone close to him is hurt.

My Regelence Rake is a book that will make you swoon. M/M (Gay) romance, specifically Historical romance doesn’t get better than this. The writing is engaging and the chemistry between Colton and Sebastian is wonderful. Poor Sebastian is so smitten by Colton to the point he goes crazy thinking about him and wanting him badly (naked and in a bed preferably). Colton’s reactions to Sebastian are a joy to read. He may come off as some innocent virgin, but once he learns about passion (thanks to Adien showing him what sex between two men are like based on his drawings in a very touching and funny scene), he gives and takes as much as Sebastian does. Colton and Sebastian’s love scenes are steamy and rich. They’re not afraid to show their emotion for one another, which seems to be the case with most of the couples portrayed here.

Colton’s parents, Steven and Raleigh are given a lot of page time, and seeing them together as they help their children find happiness, including their displays of affection was a great idea on J.L.’s part. I really enjoyed the relationships here from the love shared between a parent and their child to the Townsend siblings, including friends and the dedication the royal family’s staff has for them. Also fans of Adien and Nate will be so happy to see how their marriage has grown, including the heir to the throne and eldest Townsend son, Rexley and his relationship to his betrothed, Jeremy, nicknamed Trouble (he’s Nate’s son).

My Regelence Rake was a lovely treat. The Sci-Fi element was downplayed here, unlike the first two novels, but there are some mentions like light saber swords and technical ways of communication. There’s also a suspense element regarding a murder and the person stalking Steven that didn’t really interest me that much and took something away from the story. I felt that wasn’t as well rounded as the plot regarding Colton and Sebastian and fell flat overall.

My Regelence Rake is a book I couldn’t get enough of and now I’m craving more from the Townsend clan. I do hope J.L. will think about writing a prequel about how Steve and Raleigh got together and then finally write Rexley’s and Trouble’s romance, which most fans are anxious for (NOW PLEASE).

J.L. Langley is an author you should be reading, and I urge you to do so by introducing yourself to the world of Regelence and J.L.’s lush romances that makes my heart sing in so many ways.

As this series continues, I have really learned to appreciate the interplay between the Townsend family members and their friends along with the lusty romance and intrigue. J.L. Langley doesn't make the mistake of making a carbon copy of each story either: Aiden and Nate, Payton and Simon and now Colton and Sebastian all have their own special feel depending on the personality of the characters. Very refreshing!

In this third installment, we get the story of Colton, the fourth Townsend son. Colton has been in love with the head of their royal guard since he could remember. He is very aware that Sebastian only sees him as a nuisance and he knows that Sebastian is a bit of a rake, but it is not until he sees the evidence of this with his own eyes, that he finally tries to wean himself off Sebastian. Colton's choice of distraction is building up a racing stable and horse breeding farm.

But Colton's new enterprise doesn't work out quite the way he planned. His show of indifference has the opposite affect on Sebastian. Sebastian has a past that is littered with secrets and he was hurt terribly by his deceased husband so he is determined never again to leave himself vulnerable by having feelings for another man. Unfortunately, Colton is his weakness particularly a Colton who stands before him all grown up and settled into his manhood.

And neither of them stand a chance of maintaining their distance because Stephen has decided to do a bit of matchmaking. He makes Sebastian to be Colton's bodyguard when he goes to attend the horse auction. And the visit to the horse auction starts a whole chain of events that lead to quite an adventurous and tempestuous romance.

While the situation between Colton and Sebastian progresses, there is still the national threat of what is going on with the IN. A retired IN Admiral and his family has gone missing and the search is on because he left the impression that he knew something important. And on top of this, there is a menacing man shadowing the king.

As I said before, it is still a really good plot and the characters are still very endearing. The introduction of Sebastian and his friends along with the Townsend cousin, Dalton, into the mix made it all just better. I love how past characters are still playing minor roles and don't just disappear.
The only beef I had was that there were a few loose threads other than the on going IN intrigue. Sebastian's past was revealed all at once in the end, but yet things weren't even quite what he imagined them to be when he met up with the man he most hated. Hope it is brought up in the next story.

Series is still as strong as ever and I look forward to the next installment. It must be read in order and I can heartily recommend it to the Sci-Fi fan who can appreciate a strong element of M/M Regency Romance.

The Sci-Regency series is one of my favorite J.L. Langley series despite not being a huge fan of the Regency era. Combine a futuristic element to a planet where homosexuality is the norm and hot royal men fall in love with gorgeous military men and you've got a winner with me. I look forward to any Langley book and am usually pre-ordering her books the minute they're made available for purchase. Such was the case with My Regelence Rake and I was surprised to find that I was disappointed in this book.

I was really enjoying it up through the mid-way point then it just became tedious and slightly repetitive with little forward movement of plot then the ending was just rushed and suddenly I'm left with a bunch of questions with little to no answers.

I did enjoy seeing more of Steven and Raleigh's passion but considering they're a secondary pairing in this book, it felt like I wanted to see more of them than Sebastian and Colton. I'm looking forward to more of the series and will continue to purchase more of Langley's books with the hope the next Sci-Regency installment is meatier in book and overall series plot development.
