The Last Line of Defense: The New Fight for American Liberty

Rate this book
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli leads the historic fight against the unprecedented overreach of the federal government.

With Obamacare and agencies like the EPA, the FCC, and the National Labor Relations Board attempting to exercise unprecedented control over the American people, the Obama Administration was breaking federal laws, ignoring federal courts, and violating the Constitution to achieve its goals of redistributing wealth, concentrating power in Washington, and rewarding its supporters.

Without enough lawmakers in Washington devoted to protecting the rule of law to stop the federal government's liberty-stealing power grab, the battle had to be waged in an unprecedented from the states -- just as our Founding Fathers intended.

The man who led the charge was Ken Cuccinelli, the first state attorney general to argue in federal court against Obamacare, an unapologetic defender of the Constitution, and a man admirers and detractors alike said "was tea party long before there was a Tea Party."  The Last Line of Defense provides a behind-the-scenes account of the myriad of legal battles in which our states were the only instruments of resistance to federal abuses of power.  It is a must-read for every patriot.

I really enjoyed this book. I've read lots of public policy books and books by various politicians and pundits. Ken lays out his arguments logically and supports them with facts. For people who only know Attorney General Cuccinelli from mainstream media spin, this should be an eye opener. But the best comment I heard about this book is from my son who also read it. When I asked him what he thought about it, he replied "I know who I am voting for for governor". Highly recommended.

As a Virginia Republican Liberterian I met Mr. Cuccinelli and supported him for Attorney General. I rooted for him and watched his amazing battle for Virginia and other freedom loving people during the Obama administration, one of the worst periods of time and worst President that I can remember and without giving my age away too much: I voted for Richard Nixon.
His book is amazingly prescient or to use one of his and my favorite terms: foreshadowing. The core of the book is his battle on behalf of Virginia against the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare in 2010. He gives the clearest and cleanest explanation as to how and why it was unconstitutional. To this day I will never forget that vote when it was rammed down America's throats by Obama and Pelosi and the Democrats then; and why it is so hard to get rid of what I personally consider the biggest and most blatant trampling of the rights and the Constitution by any President in the history of the United States. He doesn't use the term Deep State, but I am sure he realizes now that the Deep State was there before Obama and it went into overdrive while Obama ran roughshod over the many areas of the law. WELL DONE! Thank you, Ken Cuccinelli!

Written (2013) by the former attorney general of Virginia (2010-2014), Ken Cuccinelli. As Cuccinelli did before the Supreme Court, he attacks the abuses of the federal government.
He reviews the Constitutional purpose of government, as outlined in the Constitution. He recounts legal battles against the federal government that the several states have fought.

With the upcoming Virginia Governor's election, I was interested in reading this book from one of the candidates. Cuccinelli's focus of the book was the hotly contested healthcare debate. I definitely suggest reading this book if you are interested in the gamut of opinions surrounding this debate and exploring all of the political perspectives.
