I am a huge fan if this series but this installment just felt a little off. I was a bit disappointed, I must confess.
Despite my disappointment, I’m going to read the last book of the series. I hope the next story brings back my excitement about the series once again.

I'm sad to do it but I have to.

2 stars.

Too much of this book was spent trekking through the jungle. It was a repeat of book 8 when we spent the whole book trekking through the desert.

When we weren't cutting our way through the jungle or walking endlessly in the mirror realm, we were going through a Fabian crisis. I was so tired of reading about how Kaylia needed to be devoted to this dead guy. Honestly, a third of the way through this book, it was already getting repetitive, and then it just went on and on and on.

I love this series, so I really hate dropping my rating this low for this book, but I just don't see how I could rate it any higher, in good faith. Brokk and Kaylia's relationship is cute but feels very reminiscent of Orin and Sahira’s. Nothing about this book felt fresh or new. It felt like a rip-off of book 8 almost entirely.

I'm absolutely going to finish the series, as other than this book, I have really loved all of the books.

OMG OMG OMG Brenda has done it again. I was a lucky one to receive an ARC of this book and it was riveting. The many monsters and trials kept me on edge. Now I not only have to wait for everyone else to read it but also wait for the next book. Kaylia and Brokk are a team to watch out for. Will their love be enough to keep them going in this doomed valley.

This book is how I know it's time for this series to end and thank God there's only more book and it's over. While I didn't hate this book, I definitely didn't love it either. I don't know, I just felt no connection to the story or anything happening in it. There was a lot of action happening. It wasn't slow moving at all but I found none of it enticing.

The only thing I enjoyed in the story was Brokk and Kaylia's blossoming relationship. There was tons of mutual pining, chemistry, sexual tension and two sex scenes. What I didn't enjoy was Kaylia's hot and cold emotions. One second she's embracing the connection she feels towards Brokk the next she's wallowing in self pity and guilt thinking she's betraying her dead fiancé, Fabian. That got old with me real quick. I'd have more sympathy if Fabian was recently deceased. He's not. Literally, he's been dead for hundreds of years. A very very long time and she's having a hard time still moving on. Girl...please get it together.

Again, I'm glad the next book is the last one. As a whole I've enjoyed the Shadow Realm series but it's definitely time for it to be over. Hopefully the last book is better than this one.

A really great series that went off the rails. While I could see this pairing coming from several books ago I was excited to continue the series through these 'spin off' stories however, the constant, longing and lusting "oh but I can't" then more longing and lusting.....baaahhhhh! There was virtually NO story here and to stretch it into 2 books, I just can't. Disappointing end for me to a really fun series.
Happy Reading

I had the honor of reading Whispers of Ruin, Book 10 in The Shadow Realms series, as an ARC copy and it was everything I had hoped for plus more! Brenda did not disappoint with this book. This book contained it all.... action, adventure, suspense, new creatures, and of course romance. From book 1 I have patiently waited for Brokk's story because he seemed to be shy or guarded about his feelings, especially in regards to Kaylia. Don't get me wrong, you see in other books how much he loves his family and friends and how he fights the war with them. But when it comes to love, you can see his feelings for Kaylia have been growing, but then nothing. This story takes place in Doomed Valley with Brokk and Kaylia looking for the crudue vine. The one thing about Doomed Valley is they might make it back but they are definitely not going to be the same as they entered. These two need to focus more on escaping Doomed Valley then trying to figure out their feelings for each other.

Brenda has an amazing creative mind that can generate some amazing stories. She captures the hearts and minds of her readers with her adventures. She amazes me with how descriptive she is with the scenery and how imaginative she is with the creatures she creates. I have been a long time fan of her writing and I can't wait to see what happens next for Brokk and Kaylia in Secrets of Ruin! I highly recommend this entire series, you will not be disappointed.

Like a surrealistic painting,

Brenda K. Davies reminds me of surrealistic painting with her world/realm building. When I see a surrealistic painting, I think Interesting, Mysterious, Unexpected, and Impossible, and Brenda’s world/ realm building, and unbelievable creativity, and imagination along with descriptive scenery, and characters has all that, and more.

Kayla, and Brokk travel to Doom Valley searching for Crude Vine to cure Lexi the Queen of Dragons. It’s exciting, eerie, and a deadly journey with creepy creatures, obstacles, and danger around every corner. They fight their attraction to one another making you just want to yell at them. Can the work out their differences, stubbornness, and independent nature?

Will you laugh? Cry? Sit at the edge of your seat? YES, YES, and YES. You will not want to stop reading, and make sure to have tissue close by. Brenda always leaves you wanting more, and more. If you haven’t read this series from the beginning you will want to, FOR SURE.

Can’t wait for the next book.

I was given a ARC copy of this book for an honest review.

Loving the newest installment of the Shadow Realm series! We finally get to read Brokk's and Kaylia's story! This book is filled with action & suspense as the duo heads out in search of the crudue vine to save Lexi. Along the way, they have to pass through many obstacles, danger, creatures, and their feelings for each other. Doomed Valley is terrifying. Will they make it out alive? Will they find the vine? Can they save Lexi? And most importantly, will they find their happily ever after? You will need to read the book to find out! I promise you won't be disappointed, it's totally worth the read! This is book 10 of the series, you should read the entire series because it's soooooo good! But if you haven't read the first books, you can still read this one as a stand alone. Ms. Davies' books never disappoint. She's an amazing author who has a fantastic imagination! Her books are so easy to get hooked on. Great characters, vivid & detailed descriptions make you feel like you're a part of it. Can't wait to read the next book!

Whispers of Ruin is the start of Brokk and Kaylie’s story. In this series they’re on the hunt for the crudue vine they knew it was a dangerous mission but had no choice they have to figure out a way to save Lexi. They encounter so many dangerous creatures they know if they leave that it could cause doom for everyone. Lexi would be gone and Cole would lost control over the shadows and they can not let that happen. While on their search they continue to grow closer Kaylia is closed off after losing her first love she never wanted to open herself up again but there’s just something about Brokk that keeps drawing her in. Will they find the crudue vine or will the dangers get them first? This is a must read!! I could not put it down I promise you will not be disappointed! Make sure if you haven’t read the series to start with Shadow of Fire!

sooo good - this series is an easy read and you really don’t need to put a lot of energy into it but it make sense and there’s nothing truly too dumb in this that makes you say why. overall just so good

i really liked this spin for the brother. I think the whole finance and the monsters and bad guys all so good. this ends with them almost getting to the vine, then the bad monster lizards capture them in these nets and put them in a pyramid prison. but the girl and guy are like next to each other holding on and like talking and get to know each other. she’s seems to be coming around and of course like this situation def brings them closer. the next book will about how they get saved to get out of the prison, they realize their each other fated mates, and then they all get to go home, hopefully.

WOW!! That word doesn’t even do this book justice. Brenda has a way of taking you inside the pages as if you were actually standing in Doomed Valley. You experience all of the nightmares and creepy crawlers that are plaguing the characters. I was so entranced that I couldn’t put it down. Brokk and Kaylia realize they have a connection which grows stronger as they continue their crazy journey for the crudu vine to save Lexie. Just when you think they have reached their goal, Brokk and Kaylia are thrown into a massive amount of horrors that leave you on the edge of your seat and wondering if they will survive!

I highly recommend the audiobook. Meg Price brings a whole new dimension of the book to life. She turns it into 3-D for your mind. All the characters stand out even more with Meg giving them their voices. She is an amazing narrator!!

Whispers of Ruin is another amazing book full of rich world building and enough excitement to keep you reading all night! This story is the first following Brokk and Kaylia into Doomed Valley where they face many unforseen obstacles that could turn out deadly if they don't learn to rely on each other. Relying on each other requires breaking down some emotional walls, some more firmly rooted than others, but what would a relationship be worth if there wasn't some coaxing involved.

I fully recommend reading all the books prior to this one to understand the immense universe Brenda is building. The story is so much richer if you feel the burn from the start between Kaylia and Brokk.

I'm also intrigued to see which monsters will be lurking in doomed Valley next....

What an amazing story. I am loving this series so much. Brokk and Kaylia are so perfect. An enemies to lovers troupe is just what I needed from this. My favorite Orin may be replaced by a younger half dark fae / vampire. These realms, immortals and creatures are just so captivating. Kaylia and Brokk are chef’s kiss. I am loving this journey they are on in search of crudue vine to save Lexi. Doomed Valley said hold my beer to the Cursed realm. You want creatures? I’ll show them to you. You want rough terrain to transverse, I’ll show you rough. It was AMAZING. What a way to end this story. I need book 11 so badly right now. To be in the mind of this author for just one day. The worlds and characters she creates is unique and fascinating. Once again the bar has been raised.

CAPTIVATING FROM THE START

Kaylia and Brokk’s story grabbed me and pulled me into their story from page 1 right to the end.
Full of intrigue and leaves you anticipating where Brenda will take us next.
Believable characters. Action that will leave you screaming at your book/ereader. The connection the main characters have is so hot.
They are on a mission to save Lexi. Kaylia will not fail. Brokk will not fail.
What lurks in the shadows of the forest may get to them first.

Brenda K Davies has done it again! An excellent addition to the Shadow Realms series. Whispers of Ruin is Brokk and Kalia's story. In an attempt to save Queen Lexi, they travel to the Doomed Valley, in search of the crucial Crudue Vine.

This book is an action packed, plot twisting, foes to friends, to lovers, paranormal dream from page one. From prehistoric monsters to mythical creatures who have one thing in common...... Kill. The hunters become the hunted. Desperate, Brokk and Kalia seek the cure, allies and a way out of this godforsaken realm, to live to tell the tale.

I highly recommend! You will not be disappointed!

I had the privilege of reading Book 10 in The Shadow Realms series as an ARC copy and it was everything I wanted and more! Finally getting a Brokk story. He has slowly become a favorite of mine and in this book he doesn't disappoint. This book has action, adventure and is full of suspense...Not to mention a budding romance. Can't wait to see what happens next for Brokk and Kaylia in Secrets of Ruin! Brenda definitely knows how to build a spot in your heart with her characters and her worlds. Highly recommend this entire series.

Brenda has done it again! I was a little nervous when I first started reading, because it seemed so similar to Sahira and Orin’s story starting out, but things quickly turned around and I was hooked! By the end of this book I was ready to throw my kindle at the wall because of the cliffhanger. I loved getting to know more about Brokk and Kaylia, and meeting all the new characters and creatures! I can’t wait for the next one to find out what happens to them, and if they can finally make it out of doomed valley!

So exciting as Brenda catapults us into another amazing realm. This time, we follow Brokk and Kaylia as they navigate the Doomed Valley. Kaylia carries so much pain on the inside, while Brokk fights his own demons. Both are them are strong willed and determined. The new creatures we are introduced to, try to keep the two from their quest of finding the Crudue Vine that will help Lexi. With so many enemies coming from so many directions, the two must rely on some newfound friends. I’m looking forward the next book in this amazing series.

Well if you thought the Barren Lands were a challenge for Orin and Sahira, you'll really enjoy Brokk and Kaylia's journey in Doomed Valley. Holy moly there are some creatures in Doomed Valley I would have never thought of in my worst nightmares! But then again isn't this one reason why we read her books. But what an adventure! Can't wait to see how Brokk and Kaylia make it to the next adventure and find their way through Doomed Valley. Can't wait for the next book. This one was a hair raiser. Hard to review without giving away something. Enjoy!!!

In this newest adventure in the Shadow Lands, we follow Kaylia and Brokk into Doomed Valley where no one easily escapes. Filled with extraordinary creatures either helping or trying to kill them, Kaylia and Brokk have no choice but to start working together on their quest to find the elusive crudue vine that would save Queen Lexi.

Whispers of Ruin is chock full of gut tighening moments mixed in with building sexual awareness and tension. Will they find the vine that will save their queen and escape Doomed Valley or will the inhabitants of this part of the Shadow Lands bring an end to them?

I love how the author has created an extraordinary series that becomes more attractive with each new installment. The interaction and chemistry between the characters are irresistible, making you crave more adventures.

Whispers of Ruin is a fantastic book that perfectly blends thrills, chills, and romance. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, eagerly biting your lip in anticipation. Believe me, this is an adventure you want to take advantage of. Personally, I can't wait for the next story.

Completely gripped from page one, I was deeply immersed in this adventure! The world building is so detailed that you feel like you’re on this journey along with the main characters. I had been hoping Brokk would get his story and Davies did not disappoint! I love a good enemies to lovers and I absolutely cannot wait for when Brokk tears down Kaylia’s walls! Their chemistry is going to be off the charts. The tension between them is highly combustible and will definitely result in a big bang! Literally and figuratively! IYKYK

Heck of a ride!

Definitely recommend reading the prior books in the series so that you know who all the characters are. The main characters of this book are on an absolutely wild ride through a crazy land I could never dream up on my own. If you like adventures, you will love this book. Luckily for us super fans, Brenda K. Davies has more to write in the series, and I can't wait. If you've never read anything by this author, I would strongly suggest making her a top pick!

Book 10 of this series brings us another brother in the dark fae royal family, another adventure and another slow burn romance. It runs concurrently with Orin’s plight and right after the fae take down the Lord. I’ve said it before about this series, but it deserves mentioning again - these books are plain light hearted fun reading entertainment. I’ve enjoyed ever one of them for their banter, characters and love stories. Definitely worth the read.

This follows the 3rd brother Brokk, as he makes his way through Doomed valley and forms a relationship with a past enemy that has recently become friends, Kaylia. Doomed Valley is a twist, awful place with terrible creatures...a theme amongst this whole series. I won't give away any spoilers. As per previous reviews the writing can get very repetitive but I stick with it for the mostly decent plot and spicy parts.

not my favorite couple but it was ok.
i still prefer orin and sahira so far.
all the "oh fabians" were annoying and pointless.
especially after mentioning they were fated mates, just her fiance and centuries had passed.
i didnt mind the jungle expeditions (this was better then the desert with orin).
but why in the last books in the series are we constantly being introduce to new species of paranormals? its a lot to process.
