Falling for Summer #1

Summer Ever After

Rate this book
Falling in love is easy. Finding the right guy to spend happily ever after with... that's the hard part.

But I have a foolproof plan. I'm taking the tropes that work in romance books and applying them to my love life.

Only one bed? Never fails.

Caring for someone when they're sick? A classic.

"Who did this to you?" Seals the deal every single time.

So long, loneliness. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

But the more I try to force romance, the more feelings naturally progress with the one man who's off limits: Walker Collins, the guy I've had a secret crush on since 7th grade, not to mention my best friend's older brother.

Dating Walker crosses BFF lines I swore I'd never cross. Plus, he hates Sunset Harbor, and his pro golf career will take him off the island as fast as he came, sending me back to the land of singlehood, loneliness, and broken hearts.

At the end of the day, I don't want to be the fool in my foolproof plan.

Kortney graduated from the University of Utah with an English degree and spent a few years before motherhood teaching 7th and 8th graders how to write a book report, among other things. But after a reading slump, where no plots seemed to satisfy, Kortney pulled out her laptop and started writing the "perfect" love story...or at least she tried. Writing love stories is her job...just kidding. Her real job is taking care of her five awesome kids and spending time with her husband.

Kortney loves a good romance movie or book, warm chocolate chip cookies, and traveling the world.

Jane & Walker
Jane is ready to settle down and find love on the island she adores. She uses popular book tropes to set the tone. And boy do we hear the word trope a bunch, a bit too much obsessively tropey for me. But now her school crush is back in town putting a damper on her plans to find love this summer.

Walker is ready to get his golf game back on track after an injury. He’s not interested in being on the island any longer than he needs to, but his sister's best friend catches his eye. Will the fun times they have together make him change his mind and stay? Or is hanging with Brooks Koepka and Tiger Woods more appleaing? That’d be a yes to Brooks for me, wink wink.

I could’ve gone without the time wasting because of the sister crap, but overall this was cute, had some nice banter and a great series starter. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for the rest of the island peeps.

Narration notes:
Duet!! Whoop whoop! Both of their voices were pleasing to my ears.

this was really cute!! also sometimes annoying and dumb but hey it’s a summer read and it gave me exactly what i wanted!🤭🩷

she dated a lot of guys during the book and i can’t wait to see their happy endings with her friends throughout this series😋(love that authors are different but the world is same, different main characters and different voices)

except the best friend/ sister😡 you fuck off annoying witch🫵🏼

but it dragged out a bit, like they were still not dating around 80%😒

~~~~~
going on a vacation tomorrow(finally) so this weeks vibe is just ✨summer✨
i feel like this series is perfect for the relaxed beachy days 😋🫶🏼
3.5⭐️ a very quick, sweet read 🧡 I'm unsure about how to rate this because while it was very boring, it was soothing. kinda of like a day being bored of your mind but with a picturesque view 🌄
I came close to getting pissed off with Jane's obsession with meeting guidelines off her trope list but then she's just a book/romcom girlie 🥺
it was kind of expected that the ultimate trope going to happen for her was best friend's brother but I was glad with all the micro tropes dropped here and there
what I still don't get is why there was a deadline in the first place. why throw all your summer plans out of the window and waste a perfectly good summer being very "desperate" for the true love when there wasn't much external pressure or any reason?? to me, she was like "I need to find love before summer ends" and forgot to actually have fun 🤸🏽‍♀️☀️☀️ thankfully, Walker came into the picture and reminded her to ✨️
***
if I read this, will summer finally turn up?☀️🌸🍸 update: does 19°c qualify as summer?? 😭
The Falling for Summer Series has finally arrived, and wow, what a start! I had a fun time reading this book! Probably the easiest 5-star I've given. The clever use of romance tropes and the slow-burn relationship between Jane and Walker kept me hooked from start to finish. Jane is so relatable and determined to find her happily ever after. Walker is the ultimate romantic hero, with a mix of charm, wit, and complexity that makes him stand out. Their chemistry is off the charts, and their banter and connection kept me grinning from ear to ear. The humor hits the spot with some scenes that made me laugh out loud.
Bring on the next book - I can't wait to see where these characters end up next in Sunset Harbor!
What you can expect:
📖 Best friend's brother
📖 Golf romance
📖 So many micro tropes
📖 Hard to get
📖 Secret crush
📖 Small town setting
📖 Flirty hero
📖 Grand gesture
📖 Dual POV
Well that was just every romance lovers dream story. 😆
I mean we literally had every trope and it was just a fun time!
I was hooked from the moment the story began, and I loved instantly feel in love with the Sunset Harbor town & people. Seriously this series is going to be a BLAST!
Walker & Jane were the best couple to start with!
Jane was such a sunshiny character and was such a fun, upbeat person. Her glass half full outlook was cute and I loved how much she loved love, her island, her friends, and family!
Walker was a great character! The perfect book boyfriend. Flirty and fun, while also having his troubles he needed to get over. And of course his cup half empty was a great matchup to Jane.
Their history and chemistry made this book full of fireworks & angst…and it was soooo good!
The constant tension was KILLING ME, but so worth it.
The Summer of Jane Hayes was so amusing! And I loved what it brought to the story.
4.5/5 stars
I'll start with saying, I applaud Jane for going after what she wants. Her determination to find love was definitely commendable. But attempting to attract men around the island by orchestrating popular romance tropes and situations was a little too ridiculous for me. Her antics often had me cringing.
On a positive note, I really liked Walker, a professional golfer who returns home to improve his swing. Being a more half-empty type of guy, Jane's enveloping positivity was the perfect contrast. His shameless flirting was a real treat, too! If you don't mind a little silliness, this was a cute read.
Do you want to know my favorite part of a Kortney Keisel book? It's that she takes the BEST parts of late 90's/early 2000's romcoms and makes an even better version of them and turns it into a book.
Seriously. THE BEST!
Summer Ever After is the best mash-up of tropes (gone wrong), a little bit like a reverse 'How to lose a guy in 10 days' vibe while mixing in a friend group you wish you were a part of and the most dreamy island setting known to man and one unforgettable 'Summer of Jane Hayes' who is the resident hopeless romantic trying to find her one true love!
'I love a good romance story as much as the next girl--okay, probably more than the next girl, and the girl after that, and the girl after that. What can I say? I love love. I swoon over book boyfriends, feel my heart pound during love declarations in movies, and sigh at sweet lyrics in songs.'
Like I said, THE BEST!!
AND this series is full of a full group of besties looking for the same thing!
"This is our summer, ladies!" I pound the armrest beside me. "We're not going to sit back and live vicariously through romance books. We're going to make our own romance happen."
Follow this up with scene after scene of forced romantic trope situations and one maddening man (who Jane has been in love with her whole life) and I'm telling you this is the BEST of the BEST!!!
Plus, this book lets you get to know all of your main characters for the following books. Romance and Summer HEAVEN, right here.
The romance-it's Kortney Keisel, friends. You know it's going to be good.
The banter? Amazing.
The second hand embarrassment from forcing romantic tropes on unsuspecting men? Divine.
And the ending? What dreams are made of.
This is going to be one of THE BEST summer books you've ever read. I'm calling it now.
Don't miss out on this one!!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Content: mild innuendo, longtime crush, hopeless romantic looking for love, great group of friends, romance-kisses only.
You could say that I’m officially in my summer romance era. Thank you NetGalley for letting me listen to this audibook ARC. I’m on such a roll at the moment 😆🫡
This is my fourth book by this author, and I’ve enjoyed each of the stories that Kortney has written. I will always support my clean romance authors 🙌🏼
The story had really cute island vibes, and has literally every romance trope you could think of (the whole premise is that Jane is trying to find ✨the one✨ using your classic book tropes). I WILL say, her approach and… tenacity felt a little cringy to me 😅 Both the FML and MML were not my personal cup of tea. Walker is the childhood best friend’s older brother, which would have been cute but he just was too cocky for me to vibe with.
I loved meeting the different side characters through her experiment and can see some great set up for this multiple author book series.
Btw this book is on KU, so I did read it while I was listening.
Ok this is more like 3.5 stars, but I really did love it!!!! not even talking about the actual book, the cover is so pretty!!😍 okay so I loved Jane and her personality!! her enthusiasm, infectious joy, and genuine love for people was so sweet to read! i liked walker, but tbh he wasn't my favorite mmc...he felt a little bit...careless? idk the word but it's like he only liked Jane bc she liked him yk? he was super sweet tho, so that could just be me! one of my favorite parts of the book was the Summer Of Jane Hayes! that was seriously so fun! I've never read a book where the fmc tries to fall in love using romance tropes, and i loved it sm!☺️ it really added a unique touch to the book that fit perfectly in the plot! and dude, walker and jane had so much chemistry! even in the beginning, they were definitely the perfect couple!🥰 I loved the dual POV, and getting to see both of them mutually pining was actually adorable!! as usual, I really liked the small town community aspect! it was super sweet to see Jane's commitment to her town and neighbors! plus I'm a FL girl so that was fun to read! okkkk, here's a few things I didn't love:
☀️ Jane is literally so obsessed with staying in that town, it was weird...😖 it felt like every third chapter she goes "I'm gonna die here" and "I'll be buried right on the beach." like girl, we get it! you like the town! it doesn't have to be your whole personality lol.
☀️ Capri was definitely unnecessary with her whole "don't date my brother" spiel. I totally get where she's coming from, but she didn't have to sacrifice Jane's happiness and make her literally hide her feelings for 15yrs for that. it was super weird, and honestly, a true friend should be able to see that Walker and jane were meant to be together!
☀️ This isn't really why I took stars off, but why did Walker have to play golf? that's like the most boring dad sport lol 😅 that's a me thing tho, so more of an observation lol.
☀️ About halfway through the book Walker started saying how he's liked Jane since high school...but he didn't say that until like halfway through, so it felt made up!! if that's really true, the author should have added something about that when they first met or anytime in the first half lol.
☀️ Another personal observation, but Jane kept talking about how she's met Taylor Swift! Like super casually 😱 like girl, at least act happy that you met the biggest popstar on the planet! and had dinner with her???? it was like the author wanted to add something to appeal to like current trends but instead of making the book better I kept getting annoyed at Jane for not caring lol
☀️ Another thing that's really been annoying me recently is how slow burn some of these books are! i get that it's supposed to be slow burn, but it's super annoying when a romance books only gets together in the last 10% of the book!! there's a fine line, and i still haven't read a book that walks it well, unfortunately...
but other than that, I really loved this book!! the trope theme was absolutely well done and adorable, the chemistry was off the charts, and the community was so sweet!!! I would totally recommend to anyone looking for a quick and easy summer romance!!
📢 MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE 📢 THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
Okay, y’all, now that you’re focused: you NEED to visit Sunset Harbor, Florida this year & lucky for you, you can on JUNE 12th!
I loved this book! The cast of characters is fabulous. I love how Kortney introduced so many of the MCs that we’ll get to know in the rest of the Falling for Summer series. It’s all connected!
Jane Hayes is determined to fall in love this summer. What she doesn’t count on is her secret crush, who happens to be her best friend’s brother, coming back to the island. Walker Collins needs to refocus after some issues with his golf game/career and somehow he seems to play better when he’s around Jane. 🤔😉
Things I Loved:
🤣 their meet cute/reunion
☀️Pollyanna
🦷 the wisdom teeth scene
🎆 the fireworks kiss
❤️ the grand gesture
Favorite Quotes:
🥰Don't get me wrong. I love a good romance story as much as the next girl—okay, probably more than the next girl, and the girl after that, and the girl after that. What can I say? I love love.
🔥 First, Walker pulls something out of my hair, and then he wipes something off my cheek. This is trope Hell. And I definitely feel the heat.
😏 His stare drifts up and down my shirt, and the corner of his mouth lifts. Then he leans forward again, so far that his lips brush against strands of my hair, causing them to tickle my ear, making my whole body shiver. "You look good wearing my jersey. Real good."
🏌🏻‍♀️She looks over her shoulder with one raised brow. "Are you coaching me or checking me out?" "A little of both, if I'm being honest." A slanted grin spreads across my lips. "I'm an excellent multi-tasker."
❤️ Because when you finally figure out who you want to spend the rest of your life with, the rest of your life can't start soon enough.
I have been hearing such good things about this new Falling for Summer series! And I can add my whole hearted approval to the first book, Summer Ever After. I loved listening to this wonderfully fun and romantic summer read. It’s the second book that I have listened to in duet narration and I am a big fan! I loved both the male and female narrators and thought they did an excellent job bringing this sweet story to life.
One of the best things about this book is the way Jane tries to create various book trope situations on the many dates she goes on, in the hopes that one of those tropes will lead to love. Yet, these dates keep falling flat and there is no spark with any of the men she goes out with. The tropes just don’t seem to work the way Jane expects them to.
But you know what does work? It’s one of the things I adored about this story. Walker, Jane’s long-time crush, and her best friend’s brother, seems to fall into completing these tropes with Jane without even trying! I love the way attraction grew between these two, leading to a friendship and then into something more, which neither of them thought was a possibility.
I loved this story from start to finish and these two characters just made me so happy! I’m looking forward to reading and listening to all of the books in this series.
I LOOVVEEEDDD this book! After a book club session sparks an idea for Jane to find love through her favorite romance tropes, she spends the summer trying to find the right guy. What she doesn’t factor in is her best friend’s brother, Walker, unexpectedly back on the island of Sunset Harbor and making it really hard to keep those boundaries. Trying to resist the ultimate OFF LIMITS trope!
Walker and Jane are so sweet and all the characters we meet along the way that will be getting their own Sunset Harbor books this summer have me so excited!
This was a super quick, funny, swoony read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a super sweet, swoony and utterly romantic dual POV best friend's older brother, forbidden love story between Jane, a romance loving girl looking to fall in love over the summer using different romance book tropes and Walker, a pro golfer stuck in a rut who comes back to his Florida island home of Sunset Harbor hoping to fix his game.
The first in a new kissing only Falling for Summer romance series by some of my fav indie authors, this was a strong start that introduces a cast of characters I can't wait to read more about in the next books and was perfect for fans of authors like Jenny Proctor, Emma St. Clair and Melanie Jacobson.
I loved how Jane was so optimistic and never gave up on finding her own happily ever after. I also loved the way Walker learned to reconnect with his family and fight for the one he loved even though a relationship between them was complicated. The grand gesture ending was perfect and I absolutely loved this newest book from Kortney Keisel!!
Many thanks to the author for allowing me to read an early copy. I voluntarily read this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own. Highly recommended for fans of other Golf romances like Annah Conwell's The perfect putt and Tara Sivec's Kiss my putt. I didn't expect to enter my golf romance era but I am totally here for it!
**Audiobook Review**
Amanda Friday and Andy Harrington are two of my favorite narrators and I loved listening to them bring one of my favorite books of the summer to life.
Walker and Jane are such favorites and I really enjoyed listening to some of my favorite romance tropes play out in this adorable romcom. I laughed, I swooned, I melted, and I adored every single minute all over again. Now that I’m almost done reading the series, it was so much fun to go back and listen and recognize characters whose stories come later.
I can’t say enough about Falling for Summer. This is a series that takes me on a fabulous vacation and I’ll be rereading this one often. I love this author's books so much and this one isn't an exception.
**********************************************
“Walker Collins is a walking romance trope. Nothing has ever been so annoying and so satisfying at the same time.”
I’ve been desperately awaiting the start of this series for months now and the opening book was every single thing I dreamed it would be…and more. This author is a favorite and dare I say? This is her best book yet and at the top of my 2024 favorites list.
Walker is a pro-golf player and goes home to Sunset Harbor to recapture his game. His little sister’s best friend, Jane, is an optimistic romantic who is determined to find love this summer by using allllll the romance tropes to charm her childhood acquaintances. I couldn’t get enough of the results of the trope usage, as they are so completely satisfying and humorous. I loved every single thing about this story, from the sparks to the flirtatious banter to the setting and series character introductions. I laughed and swooned so hard and it fit my lighthearted summer mood perfectly.
This book. I’ll be dreaming of it and awaiting the rest of the beachy vibe series all summer long.
Content: mild romance
PLEASED.
BLOG || INSTAGRAM
I kind of have an up and down relationship with this author’s books. This, is an up! I really got caught up in the swoon of Walker. Because gosh DANG those kissing scenes were steamy and I’m pretty sure lit my kindle on fire. I am here for this.
What did bug me a little was Jane. I think her intense focus on the tropes and even creating them just rubbed me wrong in a way that’s hard to put my finger on. And that she held a secret from her best friend for so long?? Besides that, a truly good summer read.
I adore this small island and all of the interconnecting characters. I loooved the character growth in Walker and seeing him reconnect with his family and learning what he truly wants to value in life. I loved all of the flirting and banter. There was definitely plenty of fantastic chemistry between them. This is light, and fun and heated in all the best ways. Absolutely recommend for your summer TBR!
Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: make-outs
- Violence: low
“This is our summer, ladies! We’re not going to sit back and live vicariously through romance books. We’re going to make our own romance happen.”
I knew from the opening scene that this book was going to be fantastic, and it genuinely was. I absolutely LOVED it! I’m sure I had a big smile on my face the entire time I was reading it.
Jane Hayes is determined to find love this summer and stop living vicariously through romance novels. She makes a list of single bachelors that live in Sunset Harbor, and a list of romance tropes to try out on them.
Walker Collins is a pro golfer, Jane’s best friend’s brother, and her teenage crush. He’s in a professional slump so he comes home to get help from his former golf coach.
Years ago Jane made a promise to her bff that she wouldn’t date Walker, but when they meet again, Walker is even more attractive than ever, and he manifests one irresistible trope after another. Kryptonite for her heart!
He’s everything she wants in a man, but she can’t forget the promise she made. And she never wants to leave her beloved island, but he hates it. Too many differences to get her HEA?
What I loved:
Bookclub with seniors
Teenage Diary
Living the tropes
Small town setting
Best friends brother
Witty dialogue
So many lol moments
The boat ride boat
The golf lesson
All the kisses
4th of July
Dual POV
Walker’s flirting
Sizzling chemistry
The grand gesture
Epilogue and bonus scenes
If you love romcoms you don’t want to miss this one! It’s funny, charming, super swoony, and a pure delight. I’ve read several books by Kortney, and this is my new favorite!
Many thanks to the author for an early copy!
This book was too dang cute!
Jane wants to fall in love. Trouble is she lives on a small island where the dateable men are few and far between but she sets her mind to falling in love. Then her best friends brother walker comes back to the island to recenter himself after his golf career starts to crash. She has been in love with Walker for years but he isn't the one to go for... or is he?
I love cutesy romances. They are the very best! The characters are so great and the plot was adorable. I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series.
Returning home helps Walker get his headback in the game and flirting with Jane has feelings coming to the surface. I love all the things they end up getting caught into and it was such a wholesome read!
Am I romance junkie? guilty as charged and the narrator was perfect!
Good days start here—with the Summer of Jane Hayes and the start of the Falling for Summer multi-author series!
Things I Loved:
-Piece of rice
-Flashback diary entries
-Grease on the cheek
-“‘Maybe I need stitches.’ ‘It’s not deep. Head wounds just bleed more.’ His expression turns skeptical. ‘Are you just saying that so I’ll bleed out and die?’ ‘It’s not a bad plan, but then I’d have to discard your body somewhere, and that’s more effort than I want to exert on a Wednesday night.’ ‘Saved by laziness. Lucky me.’”
-“Another romance trope bites the dust.”
-Nickname
-Golf with Jack ♥️
-Shared opinions on the yuckiness of “good girl’ 🙌🏻🤣
-Blind date…fail 😂
-“That’s my wife” moment 🙈
-The giant check
-The song (and the whole ending) 🫠
This was such a funny, unique, best friend’s brother story—a small island town, summer vibes, so much fun with tropes, and a perfect HEA. It is a perfect kick off to the Falling for Summer series!
These stories are interconnected while remaining standalone. The connections are so fun, right from the start, it has me wanting every single story to come!
DNF @ 20%
I love the setting and the writing is fine! There have been a couple cute moments so far, and Walker is a sweetie. I’m having a very hard time not rolling my eyes every time Jane narrates or interacts with any of the men on the island. Is this woman an actual adult? First of all, this 20-year-old pact to not date her BFF’s brother is stupid. I hate childhood pacts that are used as plot devices for adult characters. These people have matured and moved on. Forget the pact, for goodness sake. Second, Jane seems so desperate and manipulative in this book. She’s orchestrating tropes and lying to or manipulating all the single men in town to try and get them to fall in love with her. And she’s doing it so badly. These scenes are some of the cringiest I’ve read. She puts rice in her hair to get him to touch her hair and he doesn’t notice. OH NO. Then she fakes choking and scares him and everyone else in the bar, all because if he saves her they will surely fall in love. She puts on her best “bad girl” outfit and plays dumb to try and attract the local “bad boy”. And she names him the bad boy because he’s a loner and a mechanic. He’s not even a bad boy. And he’s clearly working hard and trying to concentrate and she’s driving him nuts with her antics. This girl has no self-awareness whatsoever. Read the room, Jane. Of course, Walker shows up in every scene to fulfill every trope and she’s mad that he’s wasting all her trope set-ups on himself. He’s sooooooo hot but she has to hate him because of the silly pact with his sister, aka her best friend. So she’s rude and aloof and I can’t stand this. This is silly high school drama.
I’m a sucker for a book that acknowledges and winks at book tropes. In this delightful romcom we have Jane, an employee in the mayor’s office on Sunset Island, off the coast of Florida. They don’t know what the town would do without her vast knowledge and abilities to execute things like the annual 4th of July celebration, and thankfully they’ll never have to find out because she adores it here and is never leaving the island.
Unfortunately, that has also made Jane’s dating pool a bit limited — and, with famous country singer parents who have moved to Nashville and are rarely around, she’s starting to feel alone in life. She decides it’s going to be The Summer of Jane Hayes. She writes a long list of romance tropes, which she knows well because her best friend is secretly a well-known romance writer publishing under a pen name, and is going to execute on each of them with different men on the island, whom she is asking out in an effort to find out who is meant for her. Hilarity ensues when most of these efforts go horribly wrong. This romcom really does bring the com.
And then there is Walker. Her best friend’s brother is not on her list, first because of the best friend code, obviously, but also because he has moved away from the island to follow his dreams as a golf pro, which makes him ineligible because she’s never leaving the island. But she’s had a crush on him since grade school, and he just keeps hanging around. Can The Summer of Jane have a happy ending?
These characters are absolute delights! At first I thought Jane was going to annoy me. She’s really earnest and extra, not just a little (and the audiobook narrator understands the assignment). Her tropes include choking at the table so her date will have to save her, for instance. But she looooves love and is so darn hopeful and genuine, you can’t help but root for her. Walker, a onetime Masters champion who has fallen on rough times, is sure of himself without crossing the line into unlikable, and a genuinely good guy. I loved them both and all of the supporting characters, save for a few of the losers Jane attempted to date.
This is one of a series; although I think they’re not all written by the same author, all take place on the island with the island characters. I would definitely give another a try, but I like this author‘s voice a lot. Such a fun read! Thank you so much, #NetGalley #DreamscapeMedia and #KortneyKeisel for the audiobook. This one is now available!
•𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭!•
This is my second audiobook ever and my second in the Falling for Summer series. I’m quickly becoming addicted! I didn’t love the female narrator in this book as much because her voice was just a touch obnoxious and she didn’t switch up her voice when the character was actually talking rather than just thinking. It made it a little harder to follow along with, but I still adored this book!
“𝙱𝚎 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎, 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎,” especially when it comes to finding romance and love. (the mantra that Jane has decided to live by) And of course the more she says it, the more it ups her chances of it working. It’s the Summer of Jane Hayes and she’s on a mission to find love!
I love that Jane is a romantic at heart because I can totally relate to her there! The despair while thinking you might not find that love that you have always longed for and looking at every guy as a possible candidate for marriage. It’s not a particularly fun phase, but it definitely keeps life interesting. Jane’s forced romances kept me highly entertained as she did everything in her power to get guys to fall in love with her. Her pink list of tropes was legendary 😂
The grandmas really are stealing the show in this series. Grandma Deedee is absolutely hilarious and I love her! From her scandalous romance books to her bluntness when it comes to Walker and his ex-girlfriend at his golf games (or a Hooter’s commercial as she put it).
“𝚆𝚊𝚕𝚔𝚎𝚛 𝙲𝚘𝚕𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚜 𝚒𝚜 𝚊 𝚠𝚊𝚕𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚛𝚘𝚖𝚊𝚗𝚌𝚎 𝚝𝚛𝚘𝚙𝚎.”
Walker was absolutely perfect for Jane in every way possible! His constant flirting, his deep attraction to her, his protective nature all combined together to form the most romantic man Jane could ever hope for. I love how he never gave up on her and how he allowed himself to be humbled and work on his attitude when it came to his family. They helped each other become better versions of themselves and I loved it!
Thank you to NetGalley for the chance the listen to this audiobook! All opinions listed above are my own.
This was such a blast.
Summer vibes, a small-town Florida island, ALL the tropes (intentionally), golf, wit, banter—-just an absolutely fun time! I love the way this book sets up the rest of the series. I am so looking forward to the next ones!
So for some reason, I read two golf themed books back to back. Unknowingly during the US Open 😂. I actually had fun with it!
The premise of this is so fun. Romance lover Jane Hayes has decided that this is HER summer. She’s going to find love! So in a whirlwind bid to find her husband during “The Summer of Jane Hayes”, she decides to incorporate as many fictional “tropes” as possible into her dating life. Unfortunately, she didn’t count on her best friend’s brother (and golf pro) Walker, returning to the island. Her forbidden high school crush awakens desires she thought were long buried. And he wrecks her every attempt to forget him and find her future spouse among the islands limited list of single men.
Lots of laughs, second-hand embarrassment, and swoony moments occur.
So so so fun.
Content: Mild innuendo, a lot of physical “noticing”, several “heavier” kisses.
'The Summer of Jane Hayes is in motion.'
I am a happily married woman and mother of 6 kids. I sincerely love my life and especially my love story. But I would love to have had a summer of Jane Hayes (but Meredith Logan. Except that's my married name. So summer of Meredith Merrill? Whatever. This is getting complicated)
This book is full of the most wonderful tropes, mixups, knight in shining armor moments and I adored every page. I am officially team Jane/Walker and want all the romances from Sunset Harbor.
If you like summer books, multi-author projects, tropes, best friend's brothers, quirky townsfolks, book clubs, dates gone wrong but actually so so right and the absolutely delightful writing style of Kortney Keisel, read this book. Immediately.
Live on an island and want to find love, but also obsessed with books. Start a list of all your fave tropes, and make your way through them one by one. Perfect plan, except your besties brother ends of being the love interest you didn’t expect.
This was so cute and funny, it had laugh out loud moments and I loved watching the FMC realize her worth throughout her journey!
Thanks to Dreamscape Media, Kortney Keisel and Net-galley for the audio in advance.
Cute quick lil romance !! Love that each book is written by a different author for each main character! Definitely cheesy and slightly annoying at times. I can’t wait to see all her besties fall in love- except the best friend / sister 😡 you’re extra annoying girl 🫵🏻
The Summer of Jane Hayes. That is what Jane calls her plan of falling in love with using romance book tropes. Set on the fictional island of Sunset Harbor, we get introduced to several characters. One being Walker whose little sister is best friends with Jane. Walker is a professional golf player who is trying to get his head back in the game. One night, Jane and Walker run back into each other. Then throughout Jane’s plan, Walker keeps popping up. Jane made a promise to her best friend she wouldn’t date Walker. No matter how big of a crush she had on him.
Jane annoys me at times. She dates different guys on the island. She tries to make them fall for her by using different tropes. It is super cringy at some parts because she tries to force the relationship with the different guys instead of reading them. The guys don’t show interest so she tries even harder.
Walker is a walking red flag. I am not a fan of him. I was asking why I was supposed to root for this guy halfway through the book. I will say Jane’s banter was hilarious at times. I have a few highlights were she made me laugh.
Reason I have no rating for this is because I don’t know what my feelings are really. I will say it’s not my favorite by Kortney. I loved her Desolation series. I want more of that world. I don’t know if I will ever really know my feelings on this book.
