Graham and his roping partner Jackson have ruled the rodeo scene for ten years running, but lately, Graham's heart isn't in the game. He's tired of the bruises, the cowboy mentality, and the animal rights activists who picket every event. And then there's Jackson.

Graham and Jackson have been friends since they were boys. But ever since their drunken sexual encounter the year before, things have been awkward. Graham's accepted that he might be gay, but no matter how attracted he is to other men, he always panics and runs when the clothes start to come off.

Then Graham has a run-in with one of the rodeo protesters, and everything changes. Kaz is young, idealistic, and sexy as hell. And Kaz has an idea for getting Graham past his nerves and into bed.

All they need is a bit of rope.

Such a fucking sexy book with some bondage and D/s play, but why did it have to be so damn short?

I wanted so much more: more about Kaz’s background, more about Graham and Jackson, and certainly more about Kaz and Graham and their future. I had doubts that these boys could make it work.

Great beginning; hot MCs; huge plot potential. And then BAM. It leaves you with your (literal or metaphorical, as the case may be) dick hanging out.

Honestly, this story was sort of a hot mess. But a GOOD hot mess, if that makes any sense.

I'm not a huge cowboy-romance fan, but I always want to try them. This book was short and cowboy-y, but I think the major focus of the story was the love triangle and the opposites-attract plot line between Graham and Kaz.

I honestly had no idea who the love interest was going to be for the majority of the story. The blurb didn't really push me fully in one direction or another, and I actually guessed that this would turn into a big protester/cowboy menage at one point. I still think it could have gone that way...

The plot was sort of BDSM-lite, but since I'm not a huge fan of really intense BDSM of many types, that was okay with me. I really liked the tying up scenes (HOT!!!!), and I think the sex carried this book for me.

The characters were all a bit (okay, a lot) underdeveloped, but for some reason it didn't bother me too much. Hot sex addled my brain!

What kills me is that this book had GREAT potential to be amazing. I think with some more pages (like, 100), we could have gotten there. But though this book had a lot of flaws, I still enjoyed it a whole bunch. It was a fun, easy, sexy read, and if you don't mind love-triangles or a plot that could have used more finagling, you should try it!

Well…this did not go where I expected, and hoped. Kinda felt like a slap, really. Not romantic, and with all the hints and leading it went sideways. Nothing wrong with where it went, actually, very realistic, but made me sad at the same time. This book made me feel like life's one big lost opportunity.

Song this story motivates me to listen to is Katy Perry's In Another Life--Yeah…depressing

This was terrific! I'm going to make my way through all of Marie Sexton's stuff. I loved Trailer Trash and Family Man and when this one went on sale I grabbed it up... what a great story and the characters were just perfectly done. Highly recommend :)

Who pulled an all-nighter to finish this story? Me! And did I regret it even when I ran around like a zombie the day after? Nope, because this book rocked the house! I loved it, how could I not? Just thinking about cowboys, rodeo, belt buckles, jeans, boots, hats, horses and hot kinky sex.. was enough to draw me in. Roped In is a heart-warming story about true friendship, life lessons, finding love and self acceptance in the shadows of the rodeo circuit.

Graham, a rodeo cowboy for ten years, is searching for a way out of the circuit. At that very moment he meets Kaz, who’s one of the annoying animal rights activists that picket every rodeo. At first the idealistic Kaz gets on his nerves, but once the sexy rodeo protestor starts to unwrap the rope, Graham’s world is on fire…

One of Graham’s biggest problems is his attraction to his childhood friend and rodeo partner Jackson. They had fooled around a few times, but Graham was unable to bring himself to act on his feelings, his nerves always getting the better of him, he would panic and run. Every fucking time! Of course, he can’t imagine that the cute young hippie, skate-punk Kaz could possibly have the ultimate solution to his problem. So when Kaz offers to tie him up and have his wicked way with him, Graham is completely baffled, especially as Kaz’s proposal and the thought of being controlled by him, sets his body on fire.
“I could fix that, you know,” he murmured against my lips.
“How?
“Remember when I offered to tie you up like one of your calves?”
Oh. Fuck.
“You were serious about that?”
He shrugged. “Not at the time, but I am now.” He drew back and looked up at me, eyes gleaming with God knew what kind of dirty thoughts. “If you’re game.”
“I’ve, uh...never tried that… You think that would help?”
“It might.” He slowly drew the tip of his tongue across his lip.

Both Graham and Kaz are great characters, I just loved them. I was really rooting for these two because seemingly the odds are stacked against them. Kaz just can’t overcome Graham’s rodeo job and Graham isn’t sure if he wants to get involved with an animal rights activist who accuses him of animal cruelty. But then something unexpected happens and the cards are reshuffled.

The authors did a wonderful job of conveying the heart and soul of these two guys, and when the heat turns up, it gets damn hot! Speaking of hot: The sex is sheet burning and off the charts on the hotness factor, their chemistry just sizzles from the screen! Inhale… exhale…Breathe Tina… just breathe!

Kaz and Graham test boundaries and fight feelings, but they cannot keep their hands off each other. Their relationship isn’t an easy one but in the end I fully believed in these guys, loved them and I had no doubt they’d get their well deserved HEA.
“You want someone to tell you what to do, and you want to please him, don’t you?”
I shook my head. “No.” He furrowed his brow. “No?”
This time, I was the one to grin. “I want you to tell me what to do, and I want to please you. Nobody else.”

I loved how cute young Kaz so easily becomes the sexy, controlled dominant. He immediately senses Graham’s urge to let go, to give up control, to feel safe tied to the bed and pinned beneath his body. And Graham embraces his submissive side. The cowboy in him can’t help but compare it to the soothing effect blinders have on horses. He realises that being bound is not about taking the threat away, it’s simply about feeling more at ease and having his all consuming fear bound, gagged and fully restrained.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story which moved along at fairly rapid pace, keeping me involved enough to want to read it through in one sitting. The writing is sublime, the story is compelling and I really liked the first person point of view. It gave me an insight into Graham’s mind. A glimpse into Kaz’s head would have been a nice bonus though. I know, my greedy self never gets enough…but one can’t have everything, right?

Overall, this book is a great read with a nice dose of kinky sexy. It’s sweet and lovely and just good. And to top it off, Graham is a cowboy...What more could a girl want?

I like cowboys.
What is it about them that is so damn sexy? I think it’s the combination of their gentle nature mixed with powerful fierceness. It’s like satin and steel. They have to possess both a cool calming aura as well as rigid dominance…to instill fear yet sooth at the same time. Wrap this package in hard muscles and some sexy gear and you've got my attention.

I've also come to realize I like mild BDSM. I’m not really into most of the kinks in the BDSM world. Rope- simple, yet controlling. Apparently I like rope and I especially enjoyed these two roping in the bedroom.

Graham is stuck. Not only deep in the closet, but in a rut as well. Ohh, and he’s desperately in love with his best friend. Rodeo has been his life since he could waddle in his boots, but he’s drifting. The rush is fading and he’s terrified to walk away from Jackson, his roping partner, best friend and secret love. Things have been strained between the two of them since a drunken horny night nearly a year ago. Jackson adamantly claims it was a mistake and that he is NOT gay. It might be easier to believe if only he could look Graham in the eyes when he declares it. Their relationship is complicated to say the least.

Prep for the upcoming rodeo has the animal rights protesters out in full force. When Graham confronts an angry mob one evening he is absolutely enamored by a stranger with come-hither eyes. On an impulse he invites Kaz to a local dive for drinks. One thing leads to another and soon he is caught, bound in a trap he never knew he needed. Kaz was everything Graham isn't and outside of the bedroom they face huge obstacles.

A classic case of opposites attract, but it was splendidly constructed. Pairing opposites together reveal how two counterparts can complete each other. And when they do, it is a beautiful thing. Graham was dying to free himself and Kaz locked him up giving him exactly what he desired.

It was tastefully twisted. The sex was erotic as hell and the tender moments erased any tension. A pleasant quick read by a couple of authors I adore, and I would happily read it again.

Review for the 2nd edition from Riptide

I didn't read the first edition, so I didn't know whether there were any differences. BUT, I found myself loving this. It exactly fit with my mood :).

I enjoyed the opposites attract situation -- Graham being a rodeo guy and Kaz being an animal activists -- I thought there was strong chemistry between the two of them. Heck, I even enjoyed their sexy times with the ropes ^^. I read all the scenes, because I found it to be engaging -- probably because I already loved the characters.

I also found the resolution to their different ideals to be perfect. heck, I even thought about it before the final page. With Graham's love towards horses and Kaz's wanting to be in the rescue mission, it was the right answer to everything. I can easily imagine Graham and Kaz making compromises along the way -- not just about foods (since Kaz is a vegan and Graham is not (*LOL*)

In addition, I enjoyed the internal and external conflicts between Graham and his roping partner, Jackson. I liked that it was complicated, but it also ended in a hopeful note. I'm glad that their friendship survived, although with a little cracks here and there. And I would love to read more about Jackson.

Bottom line: loved it (and the new cover is GORGEOUS) :)

Graham has been in love with Jackson, his best friend and rodeo partner, for years.  But ever since they had a drunken sexual encounter nearly a year ago, their relationship had been changed for the worse.  Things are tense and strained and Graham has finally decided its time for him to move on.  He accepts that he’s gay, but he still can’t fight his urge to flee whenever things start to become intimate with another man…that is until he meets Kaz.  Kaz is Graham’s total opposite, an animal rights activist totally against Graham’s livelihood; demonstrating at every rodeo event Graham competes in.  But there is an attraction between them and Kaz may be just what Graham needs to control his fears…yes, rope will be involved.

Okay, this was HOT!  I admit it; I do have a slight kink for some bondage.  Add in the punk, skater dude dominating the cowboy…gah!  No worries, it doesn’t get too heavy…at least in my opinion and I do not read much BDSM.

Inside the bedroom, Kaz and Graham work, they perfectly compliment each other.  Outside, they have very little in common.  And since this story is a short erotic piece, I’m not sure I got to the point where I can believe that Kaz and Graham will be able to have a lasting relationship out there in the real world.

And then there is Jackson, Graham’s best friend, who has heartbroken, broody cowboy written all over him.  Now there is the story I really want to read!

If you want kinky hot sex with a bit of bondage, this is exactly what you are looking for.  If you want a deep emotional connection…this isn’t it.

So I enjoyed this one more then I expected. My only conniption is that it isn't longer!!! I wish it was because I was enjoying the relationship between Graham and Kaz. Loved the age-gap between the two, even though it's not specified to much. In my mind it's a gradual thing. LOL. I hadn't read the first edition of this book, and the cover is what drew me in. I like the idea of a roper and a protester getting together. These two had to navigate their real life and beliefs outside of sex. Sex was a keystone for both. They fit just right for each other, but outside the bedroom it was them being on two sides of the street.

Graham was dealing with his feelings of being gay. Admitting and acting on it. His only experience seems to come from his best friend/roping partner Jackson. Graham has basically been in love with him for the last ten years and when they do finally do something it scares him off and they've been in a awkward place ever since. Meeting Kaz was such a scary but invigorating experience for him. I really liked seeing them go head to head against each other. I like seeing both guys explain what they do and why it's passionate for them. The D/s relationship was unexpected but I enjoyed it. I loved seeing the chemistry between the two. I know it was fast, but I definitely can see why they enjoyed each other. Graham can finally be free and be himself, and Kaz can be with someone. I enjoyed this alot, and wish it was a full length novel. Happy with what I got as well.

I really enjoyed this story, but I wish it had been at least 50% longer. There were so many details we didn't get. We didn't really learn much of anything about Kaz, other than he's in college, apparently he's a Dom of some sort, and he's an activist.

We learned much more about Graham, and even his friend/unrequited love, Jackson. Graham is a rodeo rider/horse breeder who has been in love with his friend Jackson for years. Something almost happened between them a year ago, and things have been awkward between them ever since. Graham freaked out and ran at the last moment, just like he always does when he tries to be with a man, and so the next day, Jackson pushed if all off as a drunken thing, of course he wasn't gay.

At least not until Kaz came into the picture. Kaz was one of a group of protestors who showed up outside of the rodeo. These people really irritated me, they didn't seem to know a lot about what they were protesting. Totally clueless about how the animals were really treated, or so it seemed. But I liked Kaz, and I REALLY liked him once his inner dom came out.

It's so rare to see the younger, smaller guy be the self assured take charge one, and I loved that dynamic in this one. I loved that he saw the cues in Graham, and helped Graham face what he needed. Do I think they lived happy ever after? Not without some major issues between them, but I think they can manage to work it out.

The sex in this was off the freaking charts hot. I damn near combusted every time Graham and Kaz were together.

I just wish there had been more. More to the building of an actual relationship, not just the sex, and I really wish we had gotten to know more about everyone, especially Kaz. I don't even know how old these guys were, just that Kaz was younger and still in college, but apparently, old enough to drink.

And I really hope we get another story where Jackson gets his HEA. No, I didn't want him and Graham to end up together after Kaz came on the scene, but that didn't mean that I didn't like the guy a lot, and that my heart didn't kinda break for him once he realized he'd blown his shot with Graham.

ARC provided by the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an impartial review.

Graham has been riding the rodeo circuit for years, and he and his partner, Jackson, have won the calf-roping championship and set high standards for competitors many times. But this year is different. This year, there’s a complication—a group of animal rights protestors are creating a commotion outside the arena, and more specifically, outside the barn where Graham and Jackson house their horses and Graham intends to stop them. But when he gets face to face with them, he’s halted in his tracks by his sudden attraction to one of the young men. Kaz is a college student, vegan, activist, and gay, and he’s stunned by his attraction to the cowboy who comes out to confront his group. He couldn’t be gay too, could he?

Unwilling to act on his desires for men, Graham keeps them hidden from all but Jackson and now, Kaz. Last year, during the regionals, his long-time love for Jackson led him to accept Jackson’s drunken advances one night, but at the last minute, he chickened out and ran. Now, though he’s still attracted to Jackson, his attraction to Kaz is stronger. And when he bumps into Kaz one night at a local bar, the two go home together after Kaz indicates he’d like to show Graham something. What he shows him is a night of pleasure as Graham submits to being tied with rope and allowing Kaz more than he’s ever allowed another man. But the next morning, after Kaz leaves, Jackson confronts him, and it’s the beginning of the end of their partnership when Graham learns what Jackson has to say about their past encounter and Jackson’s opinion of Graham’s attraction to Kaz.

This is an enjoyable story, and it’s fairly short, though it would have been nice if it was longer. I love both of these authors, and the two together were making those ropes smoke! If you like enemies-to-lovers stories, or you like a little mild bondage in your MM romance, you should enjoy this one. And unlike some novellas with a similar theme, there’s much more here than the romance and sex. The story does a good job of highlighting both sides in the protests about cruelty to rodeo animals and even touches on equine rescue efforts.

Considering the length of the story, I found the characters well-developed—both MCs and Jackson. In fact, I was hoping there was a follow-up story about Jackson, but there doesn’t appear to be one as this isn’t listed as being the beginning of a series. However, if the authors or publishers are taking votes, count my vote in for a Jackson sequel. I’d love much more of this world, and I’d certainly love to see Jackson emerge from the closet and “rope in” his own man.

This one I loved. From start to finish I couldn't put it down. The writing style matched the setting perfectly. It was nice to follow Graham along, from acknowledging to himself, my attraction to Jackson isn't a one time thing, to being attracted to this protester and then realizing what really works for him, yes that was very engaging. After all this time, after lots of 3* reads, this was the first book that really captivated me.
I wouldn't mind visiting Graham and Kaz again in the future.

So I have the original version of this but it seems this one, from Riptide, has more pages and the blurb now says, Kaz is young, idealistic, and sexy as hell. But he's also a know-it-all, animal-loving vegan, bent on saving the world one cow at a time. So yeah, I need to see if this is pro or con for my peeps.

Found this kind of a hard book to read. There's a bit of "triangle" (no "cheating" though) and it was hard to cheer for the main couple when a third person was getting his heart truly broken.

This was...fine?

I'm not sure I've read a story where an MC has two potential love interests and I felt sure that in the end the MC picked the wrong one.

I have Strong Feelings about animal rights activists who, because they don't actually know anything about animals, harm animals in order to further their cause. Kaz was one of those. I wish Graham had chosen Jackson - best friend, fellow cowboy, and roping partner.

Even the audio narration felt a bit off. Certainly not Michael Ferraiuolo's finest work. However, I don't know if that says more about him or about the quality of the source material.

Throughout the whole book, I was sure this was going to be at least a 4 star read and I was loving it...until the book ended way before it should have. HFN endings can work in some cases but in this case, the MCs ended the story still having no clue how to navigate a relationship despite their many differences so it wasn't a satisfying ending.

First, I want to quickly discuss the love triangle situation in this story. Some readers have stated that they were confused for much of the story and they didn't know if Graham would end up with Jackson or Kaz, but I never felt confused because this is a plotline that's been done many times before. Overall, I liked Jackson's role in the story and this is one of the very few times that I would love to read a sequel featuring Jackson finding his own HEA.

Anyway, the rest of my review will focus on Kaz and Graham.

My favorite aspects were the BDSM stuff and the horsemanship stuff. Graham is a big, macho cowboy but he also struggles with anxiety related to sex and that's why he's never gone farther than quick hand jobs with strangers. Kaz is a skinny twink-type guy who also happens to be an experienced dom and that's what made me love the smut scenes in this story. The smut scenes between these two were very well written, they were smoking hot and I loved that Graham was a very happy sub and Kaz was a caring and experienced dom. For those wondering, the kinks included were .

The horsemanship aspects were also great! I love cowboy romances and this one had the most in-depth details about horse related things that I've come across - to the point where I even learned a few things I didn't know and that typically doesn't happen when this subject matter is the focus of a romance. What was delightful was that the horse details weren't overwhelming or boring but there were relevant details inserted at points that made it very clear that Graham has been working with horses his entire life and this man knows exactly what he's doing. Specifically, there's a wonderful scene where Graham has to get a skittish horse into a trailer and the descriptions of the horse's behavior and Graham's actions were all portrayed incredibly well. I don't know if either author has firsthand experience with horses or if they did tons of research, but the level of detail and care that went into the horse related scenes were amazing!

I also appreciated that the author (I'll be talking about Marie Sexton in this section because I have no idea how LA Witt approaches such things) used her usual nuanced approach when portraying two characters who had completely opposite opinions about many things. Graham is a lifelong cowboy who loves eating meat, earns extra money by riding in rodeos and loves most cowboy things. Kaz is a vegan and a radical animal activist who spends most of his time in far-left echo chambers and thus, has become hardwired to never support any opinions except his own and to demand that others support those same opinions. Putting these two together would normally be like throwing gasoline on a fire, but the author gives both characters development arcs that allow them to eventually meet in the middle. Graham has always been an open minded guy and he's always willing to engage in dialog with people who have different opinions than him in the hopes of learning something new. That desire is why the two of them meet up for drinks in the first place, which perfectly established what kind of a guy Graham was.

Throughout the story, Kaz

The fact that Graham already decided at the start of the story to quit rodeo in favor of focusing on other horse activities was definitely a plot convenience and I would have liked this development to be partially Graham's choice and partially his desire to meet Kaz halfway. For his part, Kaz . I loved this development because it provided a clear path forward for Kaz while also demonstrating how much he'd learned throughout the story.

All of this was great, but the reason my rating slipped to 3 stars is because the story felt half-finished. Kaz's explanation that he's switching his activism approach was delivered as a throwaway line near the end and that's it. We're left with way more questions than answers. For example:

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and if it had been a complete story then it would have likely been a 5 star read because it contained so many things I loved. But at the end of the day, I'm left not knowing if the MCs would work out as a couple and I'm left with more questions than answers about their futures, which is why I can't rate this higher than 3 stars. Nobody is more disappointed about that than me!

The decision to read Roped In was an easy one. I’ve read and enjoyed books from both L.A.Witt and Marie Sexton. The blurb let me know I was in for an opposite attract which is always enjoyable. The rope added just enough kinky naughtiness to make this one hot read.

From early childhood Graham has had Jackson as best friend. Ten years ago they became roping partners and started winning rodeo championships. Last year everything they have known is thrown off balance when advances were made, nothing was followed through, and then in the aftermath it is swept under the rug and not discussed due to a drunken excuse. Graham knows he is gay. Graham knows he wants another man in his arms, in his bed, he just doesn’t know how he will ever find the courage to stay in that bed once the clothes start coming off.

Ridding the world of animal cruelty is a high priority to college student Kaz. He fills his belly with animal free food, his bathroom is stocked with cruelty free products, and he wants to see the local rodeo scene free of calf roping. Spending his weekends protesting the rodeo was not supposed to lead him into a relationship where he is doing his own roping but that is exactly what happens when one pissed off cowboy explains to Kaz that he is being just as cruel to some of the animals that he is protesting on behalf of.

There is a whole lot of hotness packed into this very sexy novella. Roped In also falls into what Vanilla Vanessa likes to think of as BDSM light. Kaz and Graham are having fun with their sex. No one has some traumatic past and can only get off when dominated. Graham has had some problems going further in his homosexual explorations and Kaz has figured out the perfect way to help Graham past that hurdle while enjoying all that their bodies have to offer one another. Very sexy times for sure.

In the end I need another book in this world. There is another character here (Jackson) that I think deserves to get his own happily ever after. Granted he needs to figure out what he wants first, but I think I’d like to read his bumpy road to a happily ever after.

The old adage "with age comes wisdom" is so true and yet, it wasn't until I got older that I realized it. Ironic, huh? With age came the ability to understand that I can still have my opinions, I can be strongly for or against any issue, but I could sit down and discuss it, while respecting the other person's right to have a differing opinion. If only I'd accepted that a long time ago, I might have spent less time being angry. So, when I opened 'Roped In' by L.A. Witt and Marie Sexton, I was thrilled that, one, the authors jumped smack into the controversy surrounding rodeos and animal rights, and, two, that Graham has reached that stage of his life. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate an argument just as much as the next person. What I do not care for is the spewing of hate and vitriolic words intended only to wound. Whew. I might have gotten a wee serious for a fun, cowboy, short story by two authors that I respect and admire. *snort*

I liked Graham immediately. This is a guy I could totally relate to. Yeah, he's a cowboy. Yep, he rides rodeo. But, ten years of that life and he feels like it's suffocating him. If you don't know what I mean, then you don't know about the cowboy mentality. Which, by the way, is a mentality that can be seen in many types of professions, not just cowboys, although it's appropriate here. It might've been fate or karma that had Graham meeting Kaz, a young man who looks like a skater punk, is a vegetarian, and is a member of the protestors. The visual image of Graham in Wranglers, boots, belt buckle, snap button shirt, and hat, standing next to Kaz, in skinny jeans, PETA T-shirt, flannel shirt, and drinking a Mike's Hard Lemonade, had me giggling.

Jackson and Graham have been friends for a long time and then one night things took a turn and their relationship hasn't been the same since. While I wish this was a friends to lovers story it isn't, Graham and Jackson do not have a HEA even though Graham has been hopelessly in love with his best friend for years.

Graham has been loosing interest in the rodeo for a few months now and when he has a run-in with one of the protesters (Kaz) things certainly heat up. Graham is taken with Kaz but every time he starts to think about a sexual relationship with him he freezes up and has a panic attack. This is something that happens with Graham a lot and he doesn't know how to overcome it...but Kaz knows exactly what to do.

While I liked the Chemistry between Kaz and Graham I really had wished that Jackson was involved. I would love to know more about him and I hope that he gets his own story.

3.5 really

Graham has been pining after his friend Jackson for years but the one time they tried to move beyond friendship was a disaster, so they pretend it didn't happen and just continue as before. That's no longer enough for Graham, he's tired of the rodeo, tired of being alone and then he meets Kaz.

Kaz is nothing that Graham ever wanted, he's a vegan, animal rights protestor and Graham rides in the rodeo but when they talk, they admit that maybe they've both been a bit hard on each other and when Graham helps Kaz rescue some neglected horses and that's that, Kaz is goner.

This story really didn't go in the way I was expecting, I really thought it was going to be Graham and Jackson for the HEA, that wasn't a bad thing just unexpected, so I'm hoping there's a follow up where we get Jackson's story.

It had the bones to be really good, but ended up missing some build up time to get a full, believable connection. As it is, the relationship between Kaz and Graham feels way too new and shallow for all they devote to the other.

I should probably start out by saying that after reading Winter Oranges and Trailer Trash, I’m not capable of bypassing anything written by Marie Sexton. Roped In is Marie Sexton, with LA Witt. I didn’t look much further than the synopsis and the authors, otherwise I would have noticed that the book is only 155 pages. I think I still would have requested it, I just would have been prepared.

Roped In was really good, I thought. There wasn’t any problem with a lack of chemistry. There was an interesting plot, in regards to the protester vs the cowboy. There was even the added conflict of long term feelings for the best friend. Roped In had everything that a well paced, good, romance novel should have. The only thing that was missing was page count, which of course meant that it had no chance of being well paced.

In the wide world of books, I’m not usually a novella or short story reader. When I do, and I find that I’ve enjoyed them, it’s rarely romance. I’m just far too cynical to believe that two people can meet and fall madly in love in 155 pages. In Roped In Graham and Kaz have only had one night together, and already Graham is talking about how he’s not sure he can give him up, and how much Kaz already means to him. I wanted to buy it, badly. Like I said, the chemistry was there. The sex was scorching. It just felt so fast. Too fast. In the end, the reader is supposed to believe that what was happening with Kaz and Graham was so earth shattering that Graham was finally going to let go of his long time crush and I didn’t really believe it.

Still, other than the fact that the book just wasn’t long enough to support the content, the writing was really good. The characters were really interesting, and the romantic scenes were on point.

It makes me feel really confident that the next Marie Sexton full length book will be exceptional.

Graham and Jackson have grown up together and compete together in calf roping. At one point, there was almost more to their relationship than merely friendship, but Graham freaked out and it never came to be. Graham has been in love with Jackson, but hasn’t felt the love back. In fact Jackson is a bit of a homophobic ass…

One night after a competition, Graham spots Kaz, an animal rights activist, outside the arena. There is an odd connection, a brief moment that turns in to more. They begin to spend time together, I wouldn’t call it a relationship really, but they do have sex. Unfortunately they have nothing in common, and have big issues they are completely opposite on. There is a physical connection, Kaz has some experience as a dominant, and Graham appears to be submissive. So they begin to play. There is some drama between them and Jackson contributes to that.

This was an interesting story but I wish it had been more of something. It’s kinda of a cowboy love story, with some BDSM thrown in. I like it but I had a hard time connecting to Kaz. Graham was clearer to me, I liked him very much. I didn’t dislike Kaz, but he seems like a flaky college student/activist, but not so much with the dominate personality. I honestly didn’t buy it. Maybe if I had some background for him, knew where he learned his skills, something, I would have been able to accept him. I liked Graham as a sub, but just couldn’t get behind Kaz as a dom. I kinda wanted Graham to make a different decision than he did.

So overall I liked this book. My issues were with Kaz, not the writing or the story. These two authors are fabulous, and wrote a good story. I liked the basic plot, I liked the characters, but I would have liked it better if they had left out the BDSM though and kept it just as a cowboy/activist love story.

My View: Roped In is a light BDSM cowboy story. Graham knows he's attracted to men and thinks to be in love with his rodeo partner, Jackson. The only time they tried something, Graham backs out. He doesn't want to ruin their friendship, but in reality, he has trouble accepting his sexuality.

When Graham meets Kaz at a rodeo protest, he's instantly attracted, and a couple of conversations later, they're giving a relationship a try. It's more of an insta-lust than anything else, and Kaz uses ropes to help Graham focus on what he wants. There's a connection there but not deep enough to want them to stay together.

Personally, I think I was more invested in Graham's and Jackson's relationship than in Kaz entering the picture. I love how natural Graham and Jackson worked and their feelings for each other. Maybe Kaz could have been the guy to bring them together, a third on the relationship? But not what I wanted for Graham.

The story is well written, and the rodeo and BDSM elements are well integrated. The story resolution was cute and gave the MCs their HEA even when it felt a bit rush. Overall, this story is more about sex and Graham's self-discovery than a real emotional connection.

What I liked the most: The friendship between Graham and Jackson.

I wanted more: Of a connection between the main characters.

Who should read it: Any fans of kinky cowboy stories.

I read the second edition of this book.
I think, it was an enjoyable short read, but I need more chemistry between Kaz and Graham. I felt a stronger chemistry between Graham and Jackson, and I hope Jackson will have his own story someday.
The sex was hot with a little rope play and D/s role.
I need more depth from this.
