Go Clown - #AccheDin for Comedy

Rate this book
When Baby Kiriti arrived in this world, he was like a lost butterfly in a sea of white. A baby who is born and thrust into the huge sea of humanity called India, rides and steers his destiny ship, as he constantly grapples with the Clown inside him, who meanwhile brings out his own set of funny oars in these troubled waters.

The Clown's journey continues on from a Karma-Guru to a trader of special water from Europe (thanks to his Made-in-China friend!), and from a music director (the Bad-Boy theme!) to the founder of a school, and a dirty sock to a sex-crazed, horny bunch of young fellas. The colors of the Clown's comedy are different but he always plays to the circus of life. As Kiriti encounters a wide array of characters from the length and breadth of India, a land as rich as its flavours, the carefree years full of joy and young hopes come to an end, with the sweet smell of Ganja still lingering under the starry nights. The philosophy of Meaning is preached, after a session of holy smokes, on the sides of a dusty highway which sees blood and grime daily.

And finally with the Mystical Game which casts a shadow on Kiriti's life having been won, everything is laid to rest under a blanket of white, only to be stumbled upon by a Sherpa on the peaks of the mighty Himalayas that wakes up something inside of his adorable son!

Is it a Thief, his Dream or the Clown?

And there is a 2000 year old Surprise Gift with the Novel! (Any Guesses?)

One Five Star Review

"This Novel 'Go Clown'- #AccheDin for Comedy, was sent to one of my colleagues for a possible review and I picked it up as I remember reading the author's words somewhere online (who apparently contributes to Times of India, Faking News & Huffington Post) - 'Life is like a meandering stream, and I am like a free butterfly hovering around it.'

Anyway coming to the book 'Go Clown'. It was a blast! Fasten your seat belts and get ready for this hilarious ride! I would especially recommend the train scene (Nirvana in Indian Railways!), the weed/Ganja scene, the College part, the NRI Stuff, the ad and on and on which I could so well relate to. It was reliving my collage days and the fond and the occasional bitter memories. You are going to Laugh and then cry (again with Laughter!)

The story and the way the magical realism turns out is plain amazing. And nothing which has ever been written has described the colours of an Indian Life so closely and in such a comedic way. And the free gift in the novel was a pleasant surprise (the Go game)! As someone interested in geopolitics and strategies I took an instant liking for the game.

After Amish and Chetan everyone has been trying to directly or indirectly copy a fantasy theme or a love story. They have mass produced thousands of such books killing the Indian Readers taste. I think 'Go Clown", a comedy, has added some new tinge to Indian fiction.

Disclaimer: In this generation of authors getting reviews from friends and family I would suggest you better read their free excerpt/Sample chapter on their website so you figure it out on your own!

No wonder they proclaim on their website that they got 5000 hits for their sample on the first day it was put up, and 2,50,000 views for their official trailer on Facebook & YouTube."

One Four Star Review:

"A copy of the novel "GoClown - AccheDin for Comedy" was sent to our college literary club which a friend suggested I read. So I took it on flight to spend time when travelling from Darjeeling to Delhi. On the flight I started laughing hysterically. An elderly woman seated beside me initially gave a stern look as if I was being deliberately loud. I explained to her that it was the book.
This book is like the sweet smell of earth after the first rains (a line from GoClown - #AccheDin for Comedy). My #AccheDin did start! The college part left me in tears (with laughter), and not to forget the passion scene (GoClown also explains the body's reaction in a very comedic way!).
Above all it is like an ocean of Comedy with islands in it, all of which are in shapes of different letters, that sum up to form a brilliant story! The Game and the strategy was mind-blowing!"

One Five Star Review

"Go Clown is an hilarious Odyssey spanning across two continents Asia and America.
Kiriti the protagonist and The Clown his true "side kick" speak to every human soul , for such is its universality.
This blissful tale can be juxtaposed in any setting. Be it Boston, Berlin, Beijing , Bangalore or Bogota.

Go Clown is set in the theater of Life where Charles Dickens works with Mark Twain, to present a mirthful narrative to the reader.

A must read."

Go Clown by Shatrugna Vadwlas is about #Acchedin for comedy (Good days for comedy), but then it was far more than that. There is satire, there is friendship, highs, and lows of an Engineering student in India, a travelogue and much more to cover.

The only problem, as the book title suggests, it is not that #Acchedin for comedy. And the satire was something that I was not able to understand. Can be the case that my humor quotient is not that great anymore. *sigh*

Go Clown follows the life of Kirti and his escapades around the world along with his internal "clown" who helps him through tough waters from time to time, keeping his soul alive. The Clown's journey takes Kirti to experience different characters from nooks and corners of India. From a Karma Guru to a trader of special water from Europe to becoming a founder of a school, to opening up different kind of societies to cater to the needs of people of "Tandra Pradesh" and also becoming a Music director with a bad-boy theme. There is nothing that The Clown has not covered for Kirti, and Kirti rejoices every bit of it.

And finally with the Mystical Game which casts a shadow on Kiriti’s life having been won, everything is laid to rest under a blanket of white, only to be stumbled upon by a Sherpa on the peaks of the mighty Himalayas that wakes up something inside of his adorable son!

Now Go Clown is a book that is not easy to read. At first, you can see Kirti working in a Multinational Company with his Clown, and then suddenly he jumps back to reminiscing his college days, and then he jumps back again to America and then his childhood. So basically, it confused me. The more I tried to understand the book and enjoy it, the more it confused me and at the end of the day, irritated me. The only good thing in the book is that author questions the controversial practices with his humor, the only thing that kept me going until the end.

Another problem that I faced when I was reading the Go Clown was that what exactly the author is trying to convey through his words? Is he trying to show the New Generation's way of living with Ganja and other methods of intoxication, or is he trying to show some supernatural human being who can become anything in this world? The constant job switch and adventures of the clown at the end of the day was something that simply left me dazed, confused and exhausted. There was no essence in the book, nothing solid to portray and no hidden message. Maybe I am still not equipped to understand such books, that can be the case as well. Because when I tried to google about the book and its reviews, some people really loved it like anything.

All in all, Go Clown is not that great read. Somewhere, the author failed to deliver the message via the story. Personally, it was not a good read. For some, it might work wonders as well, but it's not my cup of tea. And for other readers, pick it up at your own risk.

GO CLOWN #AccheDin for Comedy!
As name suggests it as under humour genre but it is not only a novel of humor it is of Inner spirits, Relationship, Politics and much more.
It tells about life history of Kirti. The writer gets much more applause for his new try in narrations he told every scenes detailed and in easy language that all understandable. Making a reader laugh is not a easier part but whenever the inner part of kirti "Clown" came he steals the show with laughter.
As Narration have positivity it also has negative its little difficult to catch in starts because its start in America while kirti working MNC & it goes to his college life then birth its been little difficult to catch up unless it will be far best.
Equally it is unpredictable from start to end, you found a life story of Kirti who born in India and went to abroad and back to politics all the things just happens hyper your curiosity.
It's my first novel in humour and ended up with more emotion than laughter.
Go Clown - A novel which makes you to smile and equally make you to think from every lines of it.

I recently read Go Clown - #AccheDin For Comedy! By Shatrugna Vadwlas an out and out humorous book about the life of the clown, not an actual one but an individual.

The book is an attempt at narrating the happenings in the life of an Indian student in a humorously amazing manner. When you start reading the book, you may not know what exactly to expect from it, the initial chapters are all about the building the story, but once you have absorbed the characters, you may feel that it is your story.

Overall, according to me, the book is a tribute to sarcasm and also defines sarcasm for those who don't appreciate it much. It's a dazzling account on humor and a take on hypocrisy and mediocrity.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading something new and different from the usual stuff.

I highly recommend, 'Don't read it', I repeat 'Please Don't read it'.. Spoiler alert for those who count it as a phrase, but its very bad.
I mean, I really feel so yuuckk while reading it and so relaxed after finishing it. At one time I thought it would be the first book to my still-not-generated unfinished shelf.
What was targeted and what was presented were totally irrelevant.
Very Disappointing. At last a bit of humor was there but not even to the level what was expected and advertised of.

Hard to finish and took longest period to complete among any read book on my list of read-shelf.

For me: It should be of -ve markings but as there is no such option on goodreads so I'll give it 1.0/5.0
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

The book is about the sacrifices of a woman, whose husband never helped in raising th kids, the kids who were subjected to taunts of their relatives, the boy who wanted to have a house for his mother, the juniors who were tortured by their seniors, a letter that explains the reality of time and those who are dealing with it, the dishonest officers who didn't work without pressure, the success that came with hard work and the feeling when something in you is missing.

The book starts with a boring note and turns interesting as Kiriti steps into CIT, the fun among the new family of fellow Melugus will tickle the funny bone of the readers and result into laughter at times.
The scratching Nirvana, the banana awards and the stories of the man compass still are the best ones to be read(or laughed at).
The book contains adorable stories from the boy's childhood which will fill the heart with awe.
The best thing about the book is way it has been written, surely a whole new way to write a book and the execution of the plot is utterly marvelous, kudos to the author for writing something like that.

Ratings- 3.5 out of 5 stars.
The book is a bit confusing a first because of the constant changing scenarios without any relevance.
The book is anything but for light reading and surely isn't something that everyone can grasp.
A certain loopholes exist as well.
The book, though available in comedy section isn't entirely a comedy as it turns into a somewhat serious read towards the end.
Despite that, the book is something that should be widely read because of its rich content which is more than just comedy.

Go Clown was a weird weird book. Some parts were just so ridiculous that they were funny. And then some parts make you wonder about the hypocrisy of this world. It was just a mixture of so many things all at once that at one point it became confusing.
The comedy is supposed to be the main theme mixed with philosophies of life, told in a hilarious and sarcastic manner.
It basically tells the story of Kiriti who grapples with the clown inside him and his journey. I did not know what to expect from this book, even the back cover or the summary isn't clear about What is the main point of this book. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
Atleast I can say that this book is not a cliche, it's totally unique in it's own way.
The letters, the crazy ideas, the references, the writing style, it's all so different from what I'm used to reading.
I am still confused about how I really feel about this book, hence the three stars but I think everyone should at least try reading it to be a part of this weirdness.

An altogether different take on satire, humor and hypocrisy. It started with being slightly confusing and took me a number of pages, before I could get a hang of what was going on. Once I could grasp a little as to where we were heading, it wasn't so bad. The plot has been executed well, but this certainly wasn't a page turner, Though if you are or can relate to the life of an IT professional, you would realize there are a lot of honest situations mentioned in quite a few places. And yes, as a prerequisite, you need to have a fairly good idea of how things work in the Indian society, before you can actually get the nuances in this book. According to me, this goes for a rating of 3+ stars!

This book is a sarcastic comedy at its best. In each chapter, we see humor about different aspects of a person’s life.

The one that I loved the best was on education of little kids where kids are taught things like painting, kayaking, weaving, swimming,…and a whole lot of other things..the school’s name is “German American Japanise Indo International School.” This is the kind of comedy that you can expect from this book.

Even the parts where the author touches upon the caste and creed, as well as paid media were awesome.

The one with NRI hypocrisy was so relatable, I could actually visualize people I know who do exactly what all the author has written.

Finally, we have a book that has intelligent humor!

Go Clown is authored by Shatrugna Vadwlas and is one of the rare genre book which indian authors prefer not to touch. Kudos to the author for writing one of the amazing book in humour genre.

Go Clown is hilariously amazing journey of Kiriti from College to Job, Ganga to Ganja, Fun to Ragging. Author has brilliantly penned down the simple events of our life in sarcastic way. Each chapter brings more humour and more laughs and reader end up loving this book.

Language of the book is simple and easily understandable. Narration is slightly different but as story continues readers can connect themselves with the story and scenes mentioned in the book. Characters are well build again in hilarious way.

If you're looking for something new and different from the common stories, go for it. You'll not regret reading this

Won the book in a giveaway. It is a one time read. The story starts with a simple guy with lower middle class status with lots of aspiration and an added personality called clown where this angle of the guy is adventurous and teasing kind of nature. The story was good until the hero's story from the point of his childhood, his college times and so on. The plot misses the path and takes a low in last hundred pages where Lodi (Narendra Modi) HJP(BJP) pitches in the plot. And the narration makes you bore at this point and reader feels that author was desperate to knit the current affairs with the plot like JNU anti patriotic incident, Lance Sidappa incident and so on. However the narration was simple but it fails to hold the reader on to the plot. Not a page turner.

This is quite an unusual book. Frankly speaking, I thought most of the Indian authors are restricted within the fiction zone with a similar story-line of romance. In the beginning, I was unsure of this book because of a new author, however, reading this book really defied all the stereotypes I had about Indian authors. This book is a fine piece in humour segment. It is sarcastic at several points and connects the reader. The mystical figure named Clown is a great representation of any Indian student. I would like more books from the author on social problems which will still be in humour genre.

This book is a satire on NRI's & IT professionals which on an obvious note is written by an IT professional. It basically covers the way things are in abroad for ABCD's & NRI's & the  student life at IIT's & management institutes in India.
The author uses a lot of tongue in cheek humour to bring about the reality of NRIs life in United States of America and makes good fun of all the things they do , in office and at cultural events and in society in general and in everyday dealings. Most of it is true reflection of the facts there in USA and makes really good read with great humor blended into the situations quite naturally. Though brief, this portion of the book is fun to read.
Post this we are taken through the education system in colleges , Engineering to be precise. Right from ragging sessions to social meets. There is a lot of truth in it & a lot of engineers will get the feeling of been there done that once they go through the same.
The penultimate part deals with the political scenario in the both the countries.
The final part deals with current political scenario in India and USA , Modi in India and Obama in USA, and the parallels. The problem with majority of satires is that a lot of them fall into the category of repetition & same is the case here , we expect certain things as a matter of fact & it becomes routine sometimes. But yes one needs to laud the author for writing about such a different subject & picking up such an interesting genre for his first book.
Hence 3/5 stars for the effort of the author, the laughter & mirth that this book gave me.

#AccheDin for Comedy - that's what has grabbed my attention initially when I entered the giveaway. To be honest, I did not laugh out loud but I chuckled a few times while reading the book. The book is nice mix of comedy, sarcasm and the hypocrisy of us Indians. The author has reenlightened (I doubt it is a word but anyway I will use it) us about the corruption, dynasty politics, ABCDs (NRIs' attitude which I had experienced and the author's views are bang on target) and many more things troubling India at this moment.

The good thing is the start where I could relate a lot of stuff regarding software companies (yes, I was a coder!) I had seen the stupid jokes and chaploosi of project managers and team members. However, the best thing I had loved about the book is the feeling of nostalgia the book invokes. Be it WWF cards, mangoes, stealing guavas, video games, composing insulting rhymes for the relatives etc.
Moreover, I could relate to the ragging incidences which I had experienced in my college. And I believe that author has written the perfect description for it. It seems the author was from my engineering college only (but he is not.)

What I didn't like is the book becomes a bit too unrealistic in the latter half where the association with the government is shown. I truly understand that the objective of the author might not be to come as a preacher but I felt like that.

Overall, a good book for our Indian readers.
P.S. I had never played GO! Probably, I might try it in the near future.

Go Clown # AccheDin for Comedy!
Loved the book... The story revolves around Kiriti and his family and the circumstances he faces in his day to day life and how he overcomes all these hurdles. It also shows the constant struggle between Kiriti and his inner clown and how he overcomes the clown within himself and finally becomes a successful person. The journey of Kiriti starting from a small village of Tandra Pradesh to becoming a Minister is commendable.
The author has discussed some of the crucial problems in India e.g. caste discrimination, unemployment, ragging problems and corruption. Will surely recommend this book to my friends...

Great attempt at narrating the happenings in the life of an Indian student in a humorous manner. On reading the book, you may feel that it resembles your story of youth, the college and hostel days. You will laugh at the story and smile and at the same time get sentimental too.
Experience Kiriti's life, his adventures and his journey from one continent to another. From Technology to Temperament, from Fun to Family, from Ganga to Ganja, from Shiva to Seclusion and the epic tale of the Go Game and the plan that revolves around it. An account on humor and a take on hypocrisy and mediocrity. In the end, the story, of Go Clown - #AccheDin For Comedy!, questions you if it was a reality or a dream? you may have your own versions and perceptive.
Overall, the book is a tribute to sarcasm and also defines sarcasm for those who don't appreciate it much.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading something new and different and fun from the usual stuff.

Go Clown- # AccheDin for Comedy like the title suggests comes under the genre of comedy. The book exposes everything that is hypocritical about India, whether in politics or education or any other field through the life of Kirti, in a light hearted manner. The only confusing thing, which I felt about the book was how the phases in life of Kirti was portrayed in the book. It keeps jumping between his life as an NRI, his college years, his childhood and then back to an NRI.

This is amazing, what a ride. Brilliantly written satire on hypocrisy, social order, relationships, and politics. Author has a keen eye for detail and the way he describes the events in his novel is simply hilarious. That scene of general compartment of the train made me laugh so much. Wonderful comedy.

Kiriti who belongs to a Hindu middle class family living in the coastal town of South India is the protagonist whose life story is given with a biographical tone. .The child in him is referred as "Clown" and the games played by him are mischievous and childish .The story starts from America and up to seven chapters his college life is dealt with and all the happenings, his actions and reactions, ordeals encountered by him ,attacks and counter attacks are written well .Ragging menace is highlighted. His buddy Kris makes his life wonderful .

From chapter 8 the story again starts from his birth and passes on to his adolescent and college days. His interactions with people mostly his well wishers and his associates , his expectation , frustration , pain , joy , aspirations, dreams and his endeavors all are given in a marvelous and fabulous manner . We see both the privation and richness in their true colour . His mother is the sole bread winner of the family, albeit his father is well alive and don't care about his family and act responsibly .Like a vagabond he whiles away his time on gambling and other vices.Like this we come across characters with whom Kiriti grows up with a story. There are so many characters each has got an episode. In the meantime he is practicing a Chinese game "GO" which is very helpful to him in his day to day life

The story moves on to America again and how the hero joins politics and tries to plan for the development and growth of our nation is well depicted .He continues his mission after coming back to India.

I am overwhelmed by the following paragraph which gives a beautiful and realistic approach to our life .

Kris Kiriti's buddy utters the following words when they cross the road and see the faint traces of blood .

In a way we are all pedestrians crossing the road and we never know when we will be hit by something which will end everything that we know , we feel and we see. There is no point in making plans and trying to cling onto them thinking that we are in control of everything about us.There is no point in searching for any Meaning , when eventually the concept of Meaning itself will cease to exist. All we can do is just keep crossing . We can not sit on the sides , afraid to cross , afraid that we cross the road it might be our last crossing.

The following golden quotes mean a lot .

Everything is bound to happen at the appropriate time . No amount of worrying can change the order of things which they ought to be in.

In America the poor are fat and the rich are thin
in India poor are thin and the rich are fat.

A man's life originates from the earth and ultimately settles back in the same dust.

A child's mind is more like a lump of clay which needs to be given a delicate shape and structure , by the skilled hand of a potter.

When there is a mention about the father of Kiriti namely Niswar it is given as follows:

But above everything else is life there was one valuable trait that Niswar was blessed with. The one that mankind has been searching for all since ages. From the summit of the mighty snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas to the voiceless vacuum in the moons caters , man has been looking for it everywhere and it has been rarely found . The ones who find it are the true monks of soul and this nature of value was "being content and happy with one's life!"

Cons

The narration is direct ,simple , and honest ,but there is no suspense , thrill , sudden terns twists romance and but there is only a comedy. There are so many comparisons of situations and circumstances with rhyme and rhythm to attract the attention of the reader. The changing scenery is so fast and quick sometime we may feel we are traveling through so many lanes and roads which may hamper our reading . The incidents are also given as peeling of layer by layer from the onion The routine way of explaining the same and ending with the pinnacle of mockery will lead us to predict before hand . There is a grammar mistake. An is used before the word "serious" instead of a.But for such negligible mistakes it is a great delight to read the book. Adult content is added here and there the book is meant for youth only.

Some incidents are repeated in different forms and so it is predictable. Kiriti makes plans for the prosperity of the nation he should have made efforts for safety of women which has become a billion dollar issue in addition to corruption. The Game "GO" is not elaborated I can not follow it.

The cover design by Priyanka Kumar and Neena Gupta is superb.
"Kiriti's Moves" given in a separate sheet with a table and figures along with a blank yellow sheet with columns and rows will be useful for those who want to learn and play the game "GO" The author has suggested to visit www.GoClown.Com for playing the same.

A troubling sarcastic take on almost everything that is happening around. Drenched in hope and irony, formulated with typical mocked-up names of places and people, this book made me laugh out loud from page one itself.

Myself from "Devipur" itself (if you know what I mean), made it easy to related to the conditions and descriptions given for that small part of the tale, it is talked about. Though timelines are scattered over this novel, and after starting each chapter, one have to search for the part where she/he is reading of the protagonist's chapter, it also helps in building and jotting down the knits and sew them together for herself/himself.

The story starts with Kiriti, his life, his adventures, he relation with The Clown and his journey from one continent to another. The book talks about various things from Technology to Temperament, from Fun to Family, from Ganga to Ganja, from Shiva to Seclusion and the epic tale of the Go Game and the plan that revolves around it. One can trace out many version of the same tale. Once you finish it, you will gain different other perspectives to look through, for the circumstances that may have made you rigid. On certain levels, this book also stand out as thought-provoking. Though, by the time, you start getting serious over the content, the smart-ass Clown may take you down to floor with his ridiculousness.

It's a great intelligent satire for me. But I feel, for some others, this may be an irritating read, bordering on farcicality.
I had trouble to place it on a particular category. So, dear reader, place it yourself on the shelf you want to.
A great read for me. For you, decide yourself!
