Well I sure took my time getting to this series. But I read all nine of the current books over the last week. Leaving the reviews until the end was probably not the smartest thing I have ever done and I fear the reviews will suffer for it. But here goes.

After reading all of the books, this one remained my favorite. Damon is just a total badass. And I really liked Nicole. Sometimes her bravery bordered on stupidity, but she was driven and I appreciated her focus and commitment to helping kids.

There are tons of reviews and I do not want to spoil the story. But for my safety gang peeps I will include some trigger spoilers below.

Damon by Teresa Gableman started out quite good. The character, Nicole, is a smart, funny woman with an interesting job. But it quickly went downhill from there. With innumerable clichés at every page, the book was turning out to be a horrific mixture of all the popular Vampire books out there.

Damon is a tall, gorgeous vampire, with golden eyes that can turn black when he is pissed or hungry. He is gentlemanly, brooding and somewhat self loathing. Also, he can read people's mind except for the woman he is supposed to fall in love with. Sound familiar? .....Brownie Points for the person who said Twilight!

How about this part: The vampires have come out to the general population. Not everyone accepts it. Vampires are hurt by silver. Oh, and their blood is addictive. That's right. It's the Sookie Stackhouse series

The gorgeous guy, the cute blond with the personality of a saint, the ever-supporting friend, the way-too gorgeous bitch vying for the guy's attention and, of course, the arrogant jerk who wants to kill the girl for whatever nefarious reasons -- they are all there. Nothing was original!

Even then I could live with it, but then came the writing. I'm sorry for saying this, but there is no excuse for a grown woman to make as many grammatical and linguistic errors as was made in this book. "...matrimony of marriage." What is that???

The only redeemable portions of this book were the moments of humour and the banter between the characters.

I have read books I have not liked before. Of course, there will be books that some will like, others won't. But Damon feels like the author didn't even try! It's like she copy/pasted her favourite moments from various novels. It was like going through the work of a pre-schooler.

The author has potential, the last twist testified to that. I just wish she made a little more effort instead of going with "what works".

4.25 Vampy Stars

Okay so don’t judge a book by it’s cover, but I really enjoyed this one. I was reading two vampire books at the same time and I got confused between the two books, but other than that, this was a delightful read.

Damon is a standalone and is part of the Protectors series. Each book focuses on a warrior. A warrior is a vampire that kind of protects.

This is Damon and Nicole’s story. Nicole is a social worker and she looks after not only human kids, but vampire kids! I know, people turn vampire kids because of the blood and it’s easier to take it from the kids. Sad, but the book is pretty light and doesn’t really get too serious or gritty, which I liked.

Damon is there to protect Nicole because someone is after her.

I really like the world building in this one. The vampires feed off of each other, but the opposite sex. Vampires can feed off of humans, but it gets kind of tricky and complicated which is explained in the book.

I didn’t really see a full connection between Damon and Nicole, BUT I did like the writing style and it had the right amount of tension to keep me interested. I feel like with each book I read in the series it will only get better.

I’m not really a fan of Jared (he’s the next in the series) but I hope the author gives him a great story. There wasn’t really anything great about him, he just wasn’t memorable to me.

*I GENEROUSLY RECEIVED THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW FROM READ IT & REAP*

This book was HOT HOT HOT!

A nice easy read, didn’t require any thinking, which was nice for a change. When I first picked up the book I thought it was going to be an adult Twlight, but I was very wrong. This blew Twilight completely out of the ball park!

The story was well developed, as were the characters. The sex scenes were very hot! Damon has now become my newest literary crush. There’s just something about a guy who is smoking hot, and super protective.

It really says something when the only thing that bothered me about this book was that Damon thought it was necessary to thrust his tongue in and out of Nicole’s belly button….GROSS! I don’t know about any of you, but if a man ever came near my belly button with his tongue it would be the last place he ever stuck his tongue again.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the concept of Twilight, but was looking for more adult interactions.

I thank Teresa Gabelman immensely for giving me the opportunity to read her book. I look forward to reading the second!!

Solid 3 1/2 Stars

Quick fun read. Really liked the main & secondary characters, it was a good storyline with some action. I'm use to a bit more action in my vamp books so I found it lacking somewhat. That said I'm hopeful and looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

*This would have gotten a higher rating had there been a epilogue...even a small epilogue is better than no epilogue!!! It seemed to end rather abruptly.

Did this book change my life?

No

Did it make me think deeply?

Definitely No

Don’t think the author intended this to be a book to do either of those things. This is what this book was:

• HOT
• SEXY
• ACTION PACKED
• Attention grabbing right from beginning to end

A couple of things that bothered me –

• You (the author) are henceforth prohibited from using the word ‘shitkicker’ multiple times in your next book. I love the word Shitkicker. I know YOU love the word Shitkicker. But heck, you see it too often, in too close proximity to the last time you saw it, and you start to roll your eyes at the word. Even if you love it. Maybe use it twice in the next one… cause it is an awesome word.
• The belly button scene! I know that it was maybe 0.9 seconds of scene time but - BAHHHHHH that was icky!I But you made up for it in the hot scene afterwards and it took away the sting of that EWW moment. So it ALMOST didn’t bother me.
• That’s it. That is all that bothered me. YAY!

There was a moment in the beginning where I thought… oh no… an adult Twilight. When Damon realized that he could not read Nicole’s thoughts, whereas he can with everyone else… BUT I was relieved. I didn’t feel that way after that moment.

It was a total mind escape. Enough character and plot development to keep you invested from beginning to end. High action right from the get go, as evident by how quickly I got through this book. It takes a hold of you and doesn’t let go. It was a good, delicious ride. And the next time I am in the mood for such a book, I know exactly what to pick up. That would be The Protector Series BOOK 2! Can’t wait.

Damon is an exciting, edge of your seat joy ride you do not want to end. The characters are real, sexy, fun and kick butt. Teresa Gabelman had me smiling, giggling, hot and bothered and even a little sad. Teresa Gabelman is now one of my favorite authors that I will auto buy anything she writes.

Teresa Gabelman has open up a whole new world for Paranormal Romance fans. I have read tons of Vampire books and this is by the far the most realistic Vampire book I have read. In Damon vampires are not a myth, they live in a human world. I love the concept that there are kid vampires too. The kid vampires are also able to get adopted right along with human kids by families.

Damon his your sexy Alpha Male hero who is a bad ass warrior. He is a sexy lover who growls and rips panties off during sex. Damon is protective and sweet. OMG... He can kick some serious butt when anyone messes with his loved ones.

Nicole is a strong minded heroine that at no cost will protect anybody she cares for, especially the kids in the system. She never new her parents and spent 18 years in the system. After she left she told her self she would never be afraid again. She takes her job seriously because when she was in a foster home the dad tried to rape her, she vowed she would do anything to help kids in the system, vampire and human. I loved her character. The love and devotion she has for all the kids in the system is amazing. She will do what ever it takes to protect the kids, even put herself in harms way.

Nicole and Damon have sizzling chemistry right from the first time they meet. The first time they meet you can feel his protectiveness of her. Nicole never backs down from him or anybody. He likes her boldness from their first meeting. It was so nice to see Damon this huge warrior who is use to fighting and killing bad guys, actually enjoying playtime with Nicole during one of their training sessions. This scene is fun and playful. I loved how eventually she would get her way with Damon, especially when it came to the kids in the system.

There is cussing jar at work with f-word written on it. It is kept on Mitch, her bosses desk since he usually the one putting the most money it. Love it as it just adds to the story. Nicole had no problem telling him and others when they cuss and need to put money in the jar. It is so funny she even had Damon watching what he says.

Loved all the secondary characters, Duncan, Jared and Mitch. All sexy Alpha Male Heroes that have a good roll in the story. It is fun to see all these yummy warriors together. Never a dull moment with them. They argue and laugh. Jared was my favorite. I enjoyed watching his friendship grow with Nicole and there was just enough of his personality that you want to know more about him.

Damon is perfect and a keeper for me. It is one of those books that I will read over and over again. I highly recommend Damon and look forward to Jared’s Story. I hope there will be just enough of Damon and Nicole in book 2 as I can not get enough of them. Paranormal fans, Teresa Gabelman and Damon is not to be missed.

It’s been a year since vampires came out to humans. And ever since Crimson Rush became the new known drug, social workers like Nicole Callahan has had their hands full protecting human and vampire children. Nicole lives for her work as a social worker. Having grown up in foster care, she knows just how dangerous it is for the kids if they are placed with the wrong people.

But things are getting very dangerous and when the Vampire Council orders the VC Warriors to assist the social workers, training them in order to handle the dangers they are facing, sparks fly immediately between Nicole and Damon DeMasters. And when Nicole becomes the target, Damon has to use all his skills in keeping her safe.

“This is why I am like I am with these kids. I know their fear. I have felt it, tasted it and lived it for the first part of my life. I will do everything in my power to keep these kids safe and happy.”

Nicole is an amazing heroine. The fierceness with which she protected the kids was amazing. I loved her sassiness and humor. And it broke my heart that she never knew what it felt like to be wanted and loved, until Damon came along.

Damon has been a vampire for a very long time. He doesn’t want a mate, especially not a human one. Damon was your typical gruff and sexy hero. I loved how possessive and protective he was over Nicole right from the first moment he met her.

Ever since she walked in the door he had an overwhelming urge to protect her and that confused the hell out of him

The romance and sexy times were intense and a lot of fun. I loved that both of them were instantly attracted to one another, and even though Damon upset me with his unwillingness to give into what he felt for Nicole, I loved their chemistry.

The world this author created is excellent and very captivating. I loved the other warriors, and I can’t wait to read more about them.

PNR is a favorite genre of mine, and this was an excellent first instalment to a very promising series.

I immediately liked the main female character Nicole. She's very easy to like with her very quick and easy comebacks, no-nonsense attitude and her compassion. I love a strong female protagonist, and with Nicole, she easily fits the mould. It was with the introduction of her character, that I knew that 'Damon' was going to be a book that would keep me hooked.

What I didn't quite realise, was just how hooked I would be. I read 'Damon' in just one sitting; it was that good. 'Damon' was so very easy to read, to devour almost, I wanted my fill, especially when I was introduced to the devastatingly gorgeous Damon himself. Yes, I officially have a new crush!

Damon, a vampire and a warrior, is so very beautiful, in so many ways. The way that the relationship develops with Nicole is very powerfully described; Teresa captures their feelings, their passion, their heart break so beautifully. I cried in two separate places. Yes, admittedly, I'm a bit of a wuss, but their relationship did move me.

As mentioned earlier, 'Damon' was very easy to read. And I do think this is because of the flow and pace of the narrative as well as the strong characterisations. The dialogue is fresh, believable and at times very entertaining and amusing. The language isn't overly complicated or sophisticated, which is perfectly appropriate for the genre. 'Damon' is a passionate read, with heart-felt emotions and believable characters - applause for Teresa considering this is a paranormal romance.

'Damon' is most definitely worthy of 5 Fairies. Any book that can make me laugh out loud, cry - on more than one occasion - and make me both unbelievably cross and then later grin like a Cheshire cat, surely has to mean that I loved it.

This is the first book of Teresa's that I've read. I'm so glad that I was lucky enough to win a copy of 'Damon'. It was a real unexpected treat.

I really, really wanted to read a book with a guy with an 8-pack on the cover.

Too bad this one kinda' sucked...

So, what can I say?
I can't really remember too much from it (and that says something as well, I'd say). I was yawning the whole book, the book wasn't engaging at all. The characters felt sloppily written (is that a thing?), and the plot was typical.

So, yup, I'll have to keep on looking for my book with a hunk on the cover.

4 stars - Solid vampire paranormal romance, with a nice dynamic between the female protagonist and her vampire warrior, that avoided most of the toxic masculine behaviours inherent in a lot of 'protector' romance.

Nicely paced, good character development and an interesting plot. Not a great deal of world building, but as the story was character based this didn't massively detract from the action, but would have made it a better story.

All in all a good first novel and I will be continuing with the series.

I really, really wanted to like this book more than I did. The story started off well with Nicole who was a social worker who placed both human and vampire children into foster homes. It started becoming dangerous with humans wanting vampire children so they could drain their blood for Crimson Rush and vampires wanting human children so they could feed from them. The vampire council brings in warriors to help train Nicole and her coworkers on how to defend themselves and to go with them when doing calls on cases.

Damon ends up being Nicole's protector and he realizes immediately that she is his mate. However, I think the story goes downhill from there. At least for me. Damon throughout the book pushes Nicole away only using her for sex but not wanting her to be his mate. Nicole in turn decides that if she can't have Damon then she'll take what she can get and suggests the friends with benefits. Of course, Damon needs to feed and when Nicole offers to give Damon her blood he recoils from her and she feels it is because he doesn't want to drink from a lowly human. Apparently mating with a human is not what a vampire wants. The actual reason for Damon to refuse is pretty thin and not really the best excuse. Damon, of course, doesn't redeem himself until the absolute end of the book which I feel really doesn't say much for Damon.

Even though this book didn't put its best foot forward in terms of being the first of the series more than likely I will continue with the series because it looks like the ratings for the next books in the series are much better than this first book.

Now knowing the existence of vampires, The worst is yet to come for Nicole a social worker for vampires and human kids, she begins to find herself in a rough spot most of the time because of her job. Which as of now comes with Vampire Warriors included. To not only train her so she can protect herself, but also as a bodyguard. Because two of the most dangerous vampires are out to get her. Jared and Damon are on guard duty, protecting Nicole, and Looking for the vampires responsible of selling Crimson Rush, Who are also the same vampires wanting Nicole dead.

I enjoyed Nicole's character she was so dedicated and passionate about her job. She did everything she could to make the children happy. She was a tough chick most of the time, other times she did put her wall down enough to see this other side to her. A not-so-tough-side. I really liked seeing both. And Damon he just made your heart melt. He definitely made me feel giddy inside. Even though he sounded like a tough guy, he actually cared about Nicole and he wanted nothing more but to keep her out of harms way. He really stood up for it was just breathtaking. The  author made the reader feel like they're inside the book, feeling every emotion that the main character was feeling not a lot of writers know how to do that. I was really blown away. This book was incredible from beginning to end. It was a fast paced, action packed book, that also has some really steamy sex scenes. I will be re-reading this book as many times as I can cause I loved it!

Yes!!!!

Re read this bad boy because i finished blaze and felt like i needed a refresh on some old faces!.

I absolutely love this story just like the first time i read it!. The story is seamless from start to finish. I love how its a perfect blend of action, humour, romance and a little angst to keep it all interesting.

I love Nicole and her sharp tongued humour. She's loyal to a fault and so selfless you can't help but instantly love her. I adore how even though she has a shady past she didnt let it affect her in a negative way. Instead it shaped her, making her determined to help all those kids have a better life. Making sure they don't suffer the fate she did.

Damon is such a frustrating hero but equally super sexy and mysterious. You know he's hiding things behind those dark eyes and it only pulls you in further. I loved that he just wanted Nicole safe and is willing to do what ever it takes to make sure she is. I was frustrated with the hot and cold attitude but i understood why and in the end you can't help but love his grumpy psychotic butt!.

Together there are hilarious!. The chemistry is hot!, The banter is hilarious and the angst has you on the edge(even though I've read and know what happens). The story is just seamless from start to finish and i love it more than i did the first time. Also gives you chance to re-read the small bits you sometimes miss or catch a line you forgot you loved. Plus i love all the guys and it's great to start over and get to know them all again.

Damon (The Protectors, #1) by Teresa Gabelman

I’m all about Amazon freebies and that’s why I gave this one a shot. I normally don’t set my expectations too high for novellas, but there are some that can surprise me on occasion with a very balanced and engaging story that makes the most of its page time. This one unfortunately wasn’t one of them for me. Though the goal of the heroine is noble, honestly I found the plot and dialogue fairly juvenile at times and I couldn’t really connect with the main pair. Though I’m not a grammar nazi, there were distracting mistakes as well that made it difficult to understand what the characters were saying and who was saying what. There are other books in this series but I probably won’t be keeping up with them.

Wow, what an intense love story!! I got sucked in so much that I felt Nicole's pain and cried with her. I loved her character, so strong and snarky. Her drive to protect those that can't protect themselves, risking herself in the process because of the lack of that when she was growing up, puts her in danger so the Vampire Warriors show up to train the social workers and end up having to give Nicole 24/7 bodyguards leads to Damon taking on that roll. At first they try to ignore the attraction to each other but that is never easy. Awesome story. I won't give away any more than that but it is a very good read.

I liked it...

This was the first book in the Protectors Series and I really liked it. The first part of the book was the setting up of how vampires were now openly out in society and how they interacted with humans.

The main characters were interesting and the storyline kept my attention. There was great chemistry between the characters and their connection wasn't over the top or forced.

I definitely enjoyed this story and will read more in this series.

I ended up really enjoying this story and can't wait for the sequel to come out!

Nicole Callahan is a tough as nails Social Worker that Loves her job and the kids in her care. She goes above and beyond the job requirements, she feels for these kids, she's been where they've been! So if there is ANYTHING she can do to help them & lessen their pain she will! But lately her job has been a-lot harder since she isn't only looking after human children anymore she is also in charge of Vampire kids now too! The Vampires came out of hiding a year ago to reveal that they are in fact real and have been living among us for hundreds of years. Since their outing there has been in increase in the amount of abuse cases Nicole has been getting, but these aren't your typical abuse cases they're due to Vamp Blood! Human foster's are taking in vampire children and using their blood to make a profit! Nicole is disgusted! She takes it very personal when she places a child, any child, into a home that they end up being abused! And she'll do whatever it takes to put a stop to it!
On the streets Vampire Blood is called "Crimson Rush", it's getting dangerous out there, people are hooked and they'll do ANYTHING to get their next fix...even if that means adopting a vampire child, in their eyes it's perfect. They pay a pretty penny to have their own Vamp with Crimson Rush on tap! And dealer's will do whatever to keep the $$ flowing including strapping down an 8yr old vamp and draining him almost to death! He probably would have died if Nicole hadn't walked in during an unexpected house call! It's disgusting! Nicole is realizing they're turning kids for this reason alone!
The Vampire Council-aka V.C- has stepped in to train Nicole and her coworkers because of the new dangers they now face. The V.C also needs help from them since they are not use to children never mind vamp kids they never really had them, but now ever since they came out people are paying to have them made to make a buck! It's sickening, the V.C intends to get to the bottom of it and make whoever is responsible pay and preferably very slowly.
Damon DeMasters is a warrior part of an elite force of vampires-sort of like the Navy Seals of vamps- that works for the V.C. He is one of the vamps sent to train Nicole and her coworkers. The first night of training Damon knows he screwed, this little blonde woman comes in late and right away he saw her black eye and immediately felt hot with anger! He felt an uncontrollable urge to protect her! It was absurd,he knew what it meant, but she was human! He has never felt anything so fierce. The thing about his species is when the mate they mate for life. He knows he's screwed!

Damon (The Protector Series) tells the story of Nicole Callahan, a social worker working with vampire children fostered by human parents. She comes across cases where the parents are torturing and bleeding the vampire children to sell their addictive, potent blood (aka Crimson Rush) to dealers. Similarly, protectors, known as the Vampire Council Warriors, are assigned to train the human social workers in self-defense to better prepare them for hostilities. These warriors are run by the male protagonist, Damon, to whom Nicole instantly feels an attraction. During the course of the book, she comes under fire from an unknown, angry at her success at stopping the atrocities to the vampire children, and obtains her own vampire guard. Can she resist her new protector and will Damon reciprocate her feelings?

I thought the character of Nicole, a tough, acerbic woman with a heart, was endearing. I loved her witty dialogue with her boss, Mitch, and her girl-talk with Pam, the only other female social worker in the department. I admired her dedication to her job as a social worker and her genuine concern for the vampire children under her charge. Gabelman also made Nicole more empathetic by illustrating her past in the foster care system. In addition, I enjoyed the sexual tension between Nicole and Damon, which was palpable off the pages. Gabelman also introduced strong secondary characters in Pam and Jared, another vampire warrior. I especially loved the character of Jared, who acted like a true best friend to both Nicole and Damon as they maneuvered around their feelings for each other. All these elements combined to add depth and intensity to the plot.

On the other hand, I had just one issue with the book. I felt there were too many references to other vampire series that distracted me while I was reading it. I was reminded of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series (the elite vampire warriors and the mating bond), Stephanie Meier’s Twilight series (the mind reading power and resistance by the beloved woman), and Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series (vampire blood as a drug). I would have liked more originality in the details.

Overall, Damon was a fast, entertaining read (I finished this in one sitting) with heated sensuality and engaging characters. I am eager to read the sequel with the teaser cliffhanger ending. I would recommend this book to fans of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward, the Demonica series of Larissa Ione, and general adult paranormal romances.

Damon is the first book that I have read from Teresa Gabelman and it was another book that came highly recommended to me. After reading I can totally understand why. Such a unique and interesting story. I loved it from the start.

I found myself liking Nicole more than Damon and that is a rarity for me~because I normally drawn to the hero more than the heroine. lol But Nicole was such a great character~funny, snarky, sweet, kind, caring, loving, smart, feisty, protective and a little bit kick~ass. I felt that I connected with her character more then Damon through out the story. I think that a big part of that was due to not really knowing a whole lot about Damon. Oh...no doubt...he was definitely sigh~worthy, but I needed him to open up a bit more. Definitely the strong~silent type!! lol I also wish that he didn't deny his feelings for Nicole through most of the book. I wanted them to get their HEA so bad!! Especially Nicole, she had been through so much and was still such a compassionate character~I couldn't help liking her and rooting for her!! Damon's actions did make for a great ending and I'm hoping that I get to read more about them in Jared's book. Oh...Jared...he was so sweet and funny~just loved his character so much!! Looking forward to his book next and hoping also for more of Duncan and Sid. Oh...I almost forgot about the HOT vampire sex~no biting by Damon unfortunately!! lol ;p

The story was such a unique one in the fact that there were children vampires. You usually don't see this in paranormal reads. I felt so bad for the one child vampire who was 6 years old and would forever have the body of a 6 year old, while his mind would continue to mature. Disturbing. Oh...I also loved the fact that Damon was the only vampire unable to read Nicole's mind. This led to some funny scenes between Jared and Nicole and Damon and Sid!! lol :)

I didn't want this book to end. I was definitely left wanting more. This was another great read with great characters and was an awesome start to the series. I am certainly a HUGE fan of Teresa. She has such a wonderful ability to entertain you with her stories and characters. Looking forward to more. Definitely recommend.

4 out of 5 rating!!

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I met this awesome author at the IRC book convention in October. I was super stoked when she reached out after the convention and asked me to review this book. My Co-Founder and I are HUGE Paranormal readers. We are vamp girls for sure!! Well I got so busy with life that this book kinda sat on my bookshelf for a few weeks. When I finally was able to muddle out of the craziness, I couldn't put this book down!!! I loved the worlds that Teresa has built. I opened this book and had it read in one day!!! Seriously!! her vamps are hot, caring and dangerous...perfect mix if you ask me...well since you are reading my review you must wanna know right???

Ok so this book is about Nicole who is a social worker. The world knows that vamps exists. There are bad vamps and humans who use the blood of young children. So her job is to make sure that BOTH races of children are protected. Well, they government has teamed up with the Vampire Council and sent a few Warriors to help train the pathetic humans. The minute Nicole walks in the room she sees Damon and he sees her. The chemistry is amazing. Their "side kicks" (Jared and Pam) make for great comedy and as good sounding boards for the other when they are being stupid and stubborn about their feelings for one another. So Nicole and Damon try being "friends with benefits" but both knowing it is going to destroy them when its over. Nicole wants MORE and Damon wants nothing to do with MORE..typical male!!!

Well Nicole soons finds out that the bad people are kiiinnndda not happy with her because she keeps saving all the kids they are draining. So a plot ensues to take her out. Damon does his typical brooding alpha male nonsense and tries to push Nicole away even when she bares her heart to him.

I will say that at one point I had tears when Nicole bares her soul and Damon walks away...JACKASS!!! I loved the book and was pretty excited about how everything ends up and the final scene was pretty amusing!!

My rating :
Star : 3/5
Bikini : 2.5/5

This book has everything it takes to be a GREAT book and an even better series! Hot Alpha male determined to save the innocents with a tragic past...check, Awesome Beautiful Strong heroine that reaches something inside her warrior that he didn't know he had...check, Amazing cast of characters that are both supportive, funny and willing to kick the Hero and his lady in the butt when needed...check, Superb character and plot development...double check, evil villains that make you want to jump in the book and take care of yourself...triple check! ! YEP This one has it all!!!

Damon and all his compatriots are Warrior vampires working for the Council whose main objective is to keep the innocents save from rogue vampires. The are the best of the best in the vampire world. Nicole is a social worker with Child Protective Services who takes her job very seriously. She has become an unstoppable advocate for many adopted children, both human and vampire, due to her past in the system. Damon sees a strength in her unparalleled by any person her has ever met, human or vampire. He immediately recognizes her as his mate but due to an incredibly heartbreaking past he is unwilling to claim her. He cannot give her his heart!

As with all truly good books this has several bad guys and girls that make you want to scream and make you appreciate the good guys even more! Ms Gabelman does a fantastic job of allowing these characters to hide in plain sight. Her confrontation/fight scenes will have you sitting on the edge of your seat holding your breath reading as fast as you can to make sure the good guys come out on top. She has a unique talent of drawing you in and making you truly love her characters. I am so impressed with her work I cannot wait for more in her series!

Being a social worker can be dangerous business when vampires are part of the equation. And that's becoming clearer to Nicole every day. More and more often, she is encountering human foster parents who are stealing and selling the blood of vampire children. And they'll do almost anything to protect their dirty secret. So a group of vampire warriors has been called in to help train Nicole and her co-workers in self-defense. Almost immediately she is drawn to one of the men.

Damon swears he'll never take a human mate, but he knows Nicole is meant to be his. She fires all of his protective instincts, and it's only a matter of time before they give in to their attraction. But at the same time their passion is heating up, so is the danger to Nicole. It seems someone thinks she is doing her job too well. Her vigilance is putting a crimp in the blood trade and now a hit has been put on her life. Damon must find a way to keep her safe as he struggles with his instinct to make her his own.

The book felt a little awkward in the very beginning, but it quickly grew on me. I liked both main characters. Damon's reluctance to make Nicole his mate was understandable once we learned his backstory. And in the meantime, we were treated to some good sexual tension --and eventually, some hot sex.

The villain reveal wasn't a very big surprise, but I enjoyed the journey. The ending felt a little bit rushed --I would have liked to see the events play out-- but I was happy with the resolution. Plus, the secondary cast of vampire warriors provides fertile ground for future stories. Almost 4 stars.

I actually liked the story and the premises of the series.

Even though the story was shorter that I expected I liked the characters and the whole set up.

The world found out about the vampires and the troubles started with people wanting to make money from vampire blood, more specifically vampire children.
Nicole was working for the social services and was investigating case of the children placed in foster care vampire or human. As a former foster child she was dedicated to helping them. Her life was just fine until she met Damon and his vampire warrior friends.
Damon didn't want a mate but he met Nicole and even though he tried to fight his feelings he just couldn't stay away. He is set to protect Nicole no matter what and when her life is threatened he doesn't hesitate to help her, turn her into a vampire and claim her as his mate.

I think I could have dealt with with less angst due to Damon stubbornness because it was getting a little on my nerves. The thing that I am missing the most was a proper ending, anything to give the couple a sort of HEA. I wanted to know how the mating is supposed to happen, how they deal with Nicole being a young vampire.

Considering that this is the first story of Teresa Gabelman maybe the following ones will shed some light and show glimpses of Damon and Nicole together.

Good start of the series and I am looking forward for me.

This book was predictable, but interesting. It brought nothing new to the genre, and it wasn't unforgettable in any sense. But I enjoyed it.

I did connect with both the characters. The alternating POV's got a little screwey sometimes, but not unbearably so. The 'bad guy' of the novel was easily guessed from nearly the beginning. So no surprises there. Actually, this book had NO surprises what so ever. The h was likable due to her funny personality and fierce need to protect kids. The H was likable even broken. He was a bit frustrating in how long he tip toes around his attraction, but it wasn't eye roll worthy. I think the best part of this book were the side characters. I LOVED Mitch and Jared. Both were pretty entertaining. I will probably continue this series when I have a book slump and free time.

DNF!

Geez for such a promising storyline this book is pathetic writing. Gramatical errors and simple points of view. Even the interaction between the two main characters was below-par. Not even much detail or interesting imaginations from the author. I spent the first two chapters trying myself to figure out what kinda Vampire world this is. And then one of the characters had to deliver a monologue to clue the reader in. Truly disappointing! Won't even attempt the rest of the series!
