A Gay Paranormal Harem Romance

Sawyer Smith is preparing to take on the world, and with his graduate degree only days away, he’s hoping to convince his gorgeous best friend and neighbor to come along for the ride. There’s only one problem; Draco has a secret, a big scaly secret, and it’s about to change Sawyer’s life forever.

When three mysterious men move into the new mansion across the street, Sawyer is plunged into a fantastical world he never knew existed, one filled with creatures of legend. Discovering the truth about Draco and his role as guardian of The Chosen One is only the tip of the paranormal iceberg.

Being drawn to this strange new world is challenging enough, but then Sawyer finds himself attracted to all The Chosen One’s guardians. Giving into his desire comes with incredible risks. Once the chosen one is found, Sawyer will return to his human life, without the guardians, without Draco.

As danger mounts, Sawyer must choose between guarding his heart from the men he grows closer to by the day, or give in and risk losing it all.

Yay, I finally got to meet the first 4 (of the 8) Guardians, which included a griffin, a mage, a vampire, and a pretty awesomely-possessive dragon!

So far, I've totally gelled with this author's fantasy story lines, which have been both compelling and exciting, leaving me freaking *dying* to see what twists and turns that the plot will take next.

In regards to 'some' of the author's steam, however, that part has been, at times, less of a hit.

First, once the pants came off of the 5, count 'em, F-I-V-E guys, the underwear rarely seemed to go back on.

Penis Parade, anyone?

Second, the sexy scenes, of which there were TONS, were smoking hot, which was fine, I know how to skim if it starts to get to be too much, but some of the erotic dialogue made me simultaneously laugh and cringe, including a Daddy/Boy scene, which was thankfully the only one of its kind.

So yeaaaaaah, some of the more dick-centric writing was most decidedly not for me, like...
Draco woke up hungry for food and fucking.
When I quoted that line from the book in a GR reading update, my mind was immediately all...

I've loved all 5 of the MC's so far, with their very distinct voices and personalities, but if they could put their dicks away every now and again to, oh, I don't know, do "something" to more quickly forward the actual fantasy plot, that'd be cool, too.

I'd rate this one at around 3.75 stars and can't wait to continue the rest of the stories, but may find myself tiptoeing around a few choice "sexy" landmines here and there as I read.

Reread February 2024

Yeah, I noticed the sex a lot more this time. I skipped a lot of scenes. There's a good story underneath it all though.

Reread May 2021

For some reason I didn't notice all the sex as much...go figure.

Reread May 2019

I love this series and I can't wait for more. All the sex didn't bother me this go round lol.

Originally read February 2019

So I originally read Hell on Earth and was curious about the people mentioned so I decided to read this series. And after reading the prequel to this series, Sweet Nothings, I was definitely interested in Henry. Poor kid, he deserves a HEA.

This was definitely a mixed bag for me. I loved all the characters and in between all the SEX there were tentative relationships forming. Draco and Sawyer had known each other for years and Andvari and Eduard picked up Henry on the way. It was an interesting mix.

I will definitely be continuing the series since I want to see how this all plays out, but I'm hoping for a little less sex and more story in the future.

Maybe I should start with admitting that I'm not really a fan of menage and Macy Blake wants me to believe that a poly relationship of 5 guys is not only a thing but manageable. Sorry but feeling is believing and I didn't felt it.

So this is a story about a prophecy about a chosen one who is supposed to save the paranormal society - from what we don't know only that everyone believes in that cryptic prophecy since centuries. There is also a group of guardians supposed to protect the chosen one. They are recognized by suddenly appearing tattoos. The story is not really inventive and doesn't exactly keeps a steady eye on its logic but in its predictable way it's kind of sweet and enjoyable - until the mating stuff is starting. At that point it turns into an orgy only interrupted from time to time by dealing with some threats. Seems like the paranormal world can be saved by fucking.

Enjoyable, but that is a lot of sex. Pretty hot, but there should be some serious chaffing and aching butts in that house. I don’t care what kind of magical, mythical creatures you are. Just sayin’ 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'd wanted to read this series again, so here I am! How did I forget how horny all these men are, lol, gotta love it. Draco's dirty talk, Eduard's sexy hands, & oh yes, the daddy kink! 😍. This will be fun to reread (slowly this time 😋) as I already know the twists, this time I'm only here for the romance, angst & sex 🤣. And magical mates! I just realised I'd started this series on valentine's day before, whoa.

Gay Harem Romance? SIGN ME UP!!
This was my 1st gay harem Romance & let me just say, it won't be my last book by Macy! Fantasy, Guardians, So Much Gay Sex, I think I'm in Heaven😏.
Sawyer & his 4 guardians were HOT AF, & I can't wait to meet more!
DEVOURED it in 6hrs, Stayed awake till 4am to complete it!

SERIES REVIEW (Chosen One, Book 1-5)

I'm in Love & Awe with this series❤. With the Romance, hot Gay Sex & Adventures, it kept me on my toes! I popped two of my cherries with this series: This was my 1st by Macy Blake; My 1st Gay Harem, Fantasy & PNR made it all the more perfect; & the largest harem I've read till date, omg 9 guys?! I binge read this entire series😘.

The Individuality of each guy was Awesome & how we gradually meet'em. I loved the Multiple POVs!
We have our main guy: Sawyer; Smart, Complex, Creative, Delightful; The Chosen One, Human/Magical Null/God (?!?!).
Then we have the 8 Guardians...Who's attraction to eachother & Sawyer maybe unconventional but with Good reason! *Ahem, Mates*
Draco; Growly & Protective; The Dragon, Sawyer's Friend.
Henry; Smart & Guy Next door Vibes; The Mage/Seer.
Eduard; Elegant & Charming; The Griffin, Billionaire.
Andvari; Quiet & Observant; The Vampire Warrior.
Saeward; Sweet & Gentle Giant; The Hippocamp.
Loch; Funny & Sleek; The Fae Warrior.
Dakota; Dark & Deep, the one who took the most time to warm up to Sawyer (Reasons..!); The Lynx.
Pip; Cute & Hilarious; The Kushtaka. I'd have liked to have more time with him, as we get him in last book.

I love all of them so much! I adored all the Various side Characters here & how everyone talked most things out. The World-Building Is good (Enough to sustain The story), Macy made her whole Myth world, it's fun!
As the threat gets Revealed, Dangers increases. Secrets Found, Pieces of the Puzzle Stringed. The Finale was great! I hope, if I have time, I'll read the other books in the Chosen One Universe Soon! #MustRead

ALL OR NOTHING
We Meet Sawyer, Draco, Henry, Eduard & Andvari here!

Sawyer & Draco have been Friends (& in love in secret!) for years, Their lives are fairly normal; D's a Tech Reviewer & Sawyer's close to completing his Master's degree. D's secret Keeping him from making the move.

Their Lives get Disrupted with the arrival of their New neighbors: Henry (Ah the innocence *yum), Andvari & Eduard. Which causes a chain of events Leading to Sawyer founding about Draco being a dragon (He understands!) & about the Chosen One Prophecy + 8 guardians.

As Sawyer gets close to the 4 Guys, There Are Swoons, Orgasms, Mate Talks, Attacks on Him, New Info, Goddess visit, So many Sexy times, Some I love yous, Null Mean, Raven Attack...
Soon Sawyer figures it out that HE is the Chosen One *Holy shit!*. The Raven Attack had me on edge!
But As long as they're together they can face everything!

There's not much in case of Growth of Story ARC (Many things happen though!), So many Secrets remain, but the Penis parade was sure fun😉.
P.s. as I've already read This series, I've to say, there's a good reason why Sawyer has 8 Guardians/Mates.

Macy Blake is a new author for me. I read and absolutely adored Sweet Nothings, The Trouble with Love and Santa Trouble. So I sat back and started this one….and it was good and then it wasn’t.

Okay so I knew going in it was a m/m/m/m/m……so yes there’s going to be sex. Quite a lot of sex since there’s five of them but I didn’t expect it to be just sex. Once the sex started all thoughts of story or plot seemed to just disappear. I was skimming to get through the endless sex scenes. I mean seriously there’s only so much sex I can read. I like a little balance, something to hold it together. Anyway I was skimming the endless sex and I find myself at the end of the book. That was it WHAT THE….

Since I really enjoyed books 0, 0.75 and 0.76 (I know interesting numbering system) I’m giving the next one a try. Hopefully they’re all exhausted and ready to move the story forward.

I did it! Holy shit.

So, I started this "world" all out of order and once I realized I wanted, no needed to start at the beginning to get the full story, well, I was faced with something called a Harem Romance. I wasn't exactly sure what that was but it sounded like something that just would not be my thing.

And mostly, it wasn't. At least that part of the story.

The rest, the world, the various supernaturals and the prophecies, sign me up!

All the sex? Weeeeelllll...I think in this setting I can get through it. This isn't like a typical romance so I'm just gonna go with the flow here.

I do hope for more story and less sex in the next one but yeah, I'm gonna keep going.

I wonder if these guys are supposed to be doing that kind of stuff to the Chosen One? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Warning: mild spoilers ahead

This is a book with an identity crisis. Beside the marketing, it's not a harem romance (not really to me at least), it's not a serious urban fantasy or paranormal romance; the plot is too whimsical and flimsy for that, but it's also not entirely porn without plot. Neither is a humor. It comes across as an elaborate of alpha/omega shifterbook

For a new author, it was good (technical) writing, with a beautiful cover.
But it missed a good editor, because the plot is inconsistent and barely there.

It started out solid, with good strong characters, but once they get together, all of that goes out the window and all the typical stereotypes emerge. Of course the submissives are both virgins and the others alphas, despite the bit of shifting in top/bottom.

Then there was the awkward, cringe-worthy sexs scenes. The sudden daddy porn (which I thought wasn't befitting the characters) the mentioned wanting to "breed" one of the submissives to give them cubs (brrrr) and little inconsistencies like: a griffin is part lion and part eagle, but one creature. The mentioned griffin repeatedly mentions that "his lion wants too..." which is something else entirely as a griffin is one creature not two seperate one despite the appearance.

The book certainly has potential, but fell short for me. Despite the beautiful cover.

The plot went out the window but for a few flimsy points and there is barely any worldbuilding. It's focussed solidly on the main characters with a one time appearance by a father. Despite there being many family members and brothers and sisters mentioned.

Action packed and seriously steaming hot

Well that was a delicious feast of paranormal romance and seriously smexy times!

I guessed pretty early on where the narrative was heading but I'm also super intrigued by Sawyer's null state.

I've no clue on the bad guys but I love every one of the Harem members who are wrapped around Sawyer and the individual dynamics between them all.

Seductive!!!

This book elevated the temperature, steamy boiling hot, every intimate moment was presented with rich description, maintaining the good taste, some fantasies were displayed too, I’ll explain some points at the spoiler section, but it was a pleasing reading, I finished with some fever!!!
High praises to Macy Blake!!!

Marvelous performance from Michael Dean on Audible, very precise, amazing acting, fully committed, impressive technique, I was engaged!!! Congratulations!!!

If You'd told me that I would not only enjoy but devour a book about a guy with potentially EIGHT mates (he has four now), I would've laughed in your face but it seems Macy Blake has done the impossible. Not only did I finish this in one sitting, I immediately jumped into book two.

There is just SOMETHING about the story that I love. It certainly isn't perfect and has its flaws but I just could not put it down. The sexy times didn't hurt either *giggles*

I am completely enjoying myself and I know at the end of it, I'll definitely be in a book coma but IM READY!

Three and a half stars.

First and foremost, I want to get this out of the way. This book is being advertised as a harem romance, which I am always hesitant about, but I was skimming through some chapters - since I seriously don't give much of a damn about spoilers - and realized that All or Nothing leans a bit more towards an actual polyamorous relationship. So I figured I'd give it a try, and I'm pretty glad I did. The book is actual polyamory, though there's a pretty big focus on Sawyer, as expected. But I greatly appreciated how all the guys were attracted to each other, and I'm crossing my fingers that the remaining guardians will also love each other, and not just Sawyer.

The book is heavy on the sex scenes and lighter on the plot, I'll be honest. It's the first book in the series, and it serves as an introduction to the lore and the big prophecy that sets the series into motion. Most of the minimal plot action happens in the beginning, when Sawyer gets exposed to this new world with its strange creatures, and in the end, when the danger starts presenting itself. I admit I found Sawyer's easy acceptance of the otherworldly creatures to be a bit ridiculous and unrealistic, but I didn't much care. At the rate I'm going when it comes to fantasy and paranormal books, and with my active imagination, I probably would accept shit as easily as Sawyer did.

The middle section of the book was mostly sex. It probably would annoy someone who's reading for the plot as well, but again, I didn't much care. The sex scenes were ridiculously hot in my opinion, and throw in a bit of a kink I really love (I won't say which!), and you got Bea fanning herself in excitement. As I mentioned above, this series is proving to be more polyamory than harem romance, and it made me enjoy everything a lot more. The sex scenes were used as a way of showing the growing closeness of the men, I suppose? Sometimes it may have felt a bit too gratuitous to me. But I can easily forgive that, as long as the next few books hold a bit more plot as well.

Overall, I think this is a pretty solid debut novel. There were pacing issues, and the backstory of each character was kinda minimal and I would've appreciated more worldbuilding. Another person might complain there's just too much sex. But for escapism and a bit of a steamy read, this definitely hit the mark. There were some typos here and there, but nothing too drastic that took away my enjoyment of the story. I'm looking forward to more of this series.

This was a super fun and engaging beginning following Sawyer and the first four of his Mates.

That might seem a bit overwhelming if you're not used ti pily relationships, but this was easy to follow, more so with the alternating POVs.

I love how distinct yet complimentary the personalities were, and how much attention the author gave to the development of individual relationships as well as the overarching group one.

This is a fun series to reach for if you need to be wisked away from Real LifeTM into a world more magical and steamy. Did I mention the steam. Well, with four Mates maybe it didn't need mentioning.

But you bet I will, because boy howdy, this will definitely have you reaching for some water.

Really enjoyed this, the only reason I did not give it 5 stars is it felt like 60% of the book was sex scenes with only 40% plot... not sure if the author was purposely trying to stretch the storyline over a set amount of books for the series or what. 3/4s through I just started skipping over the sex scenes as even with 6 guys it gets old when another one happens every few pages. I am hoping for less sex and more story in book 2! If this remains a problem I will probably give up on the series. I have read the first book of this author's follow on "Magical Mates" series and ADORE it so hopefully this one will improve!!!

HOT HOT HOT!!! This book had some steam, but there was also a really cool story to go along with it to make it a great overall story. Sawyer lives next door to his best friend Draco (who he has a crush on). They go across the street to welcome the new neighbors, and everything changes for the guys. Sawyer, who is a clueless human, ends up meeting a vampire (Andvari), a griffin (Eduard), and a magic wielding human (Henry), and he learns that Draco is a dragon. The four guys are the guardians of the long awaited Chosen One. Now that Sawyer knows his secret, Draco admits his feelings for Sawyer and they get together, but Draco also tells him that when the Chosen One is found, they have the ability to keep them apart because of his job as guardian. He also tells him that Dragons tend to take multiple mates, which helps both of them since they are both attracted to the other 5 guys. They decide to make the most of the time they have, and everyone is all on board. There are some amazingly steamy scenes between the 5 guys-all together and in separate pairs/groups. The 5 all love each other, and it is cool to see them gel perfectly.

I am super excited and interested to see what comes next in this story. We learn a lot of interesting information in this book, and there are still 4 guardians who need to be introduced. I don't know if all 4 of them will join into the ranks of the amazing group of 5 that already exists, but I can imagine how HOT that book could be. :-) This was a 4.5 star book for me.

Torn..

So the story was intriguing with the prophecy and the magic and the mystical beings. But the whole polyamorous thing didn’t quite work for me. Not that I dislike polyamorous romance or anything. Just that, polyamorous romance is hard to do right. And this just didn’t sell it to me.

At least I didn’t see what their connection was other than the chosen one prophecy. What drew them to each other? I couldn’t say. One minute Draco and Sawyer were fighting unrequited love and the next minute they’re all in bed together, all five of them.

The essence of the story was so different from the prequels that I’m a little disappointed. I loved Henry’s parents and their crazy family in the prequel. I wanted something like that here but alas, I didn’t find it ☹️ but the mystery thing though...there wasn’t much here. Just setting up the story but it was enough to keep your interest going.

For that, I’m giving it 3 stars but I don’t know about the polyamorous romance though 🤔

I have to admit I am very confused. Yesterday I read the prequel to the Chosen One, “Sweet Nothings”, and found it a sweet romantic paranormal story with a bunch of adorable kids.

One day later, I start the first of the Chosen One series, “All or Nothing”, and find myself in a parallel universe, where the sweet insecure teen magician in the prequel, Henry, has joined an orgy! I mean...it is not a badly written orgy, but...what happened to the plot?! What...why?

I'm totally drawn into this world and glad my first Macy Blake book was a hit. Yes there is a massive amount of sex in the book, but I'm intrigued by the story, love the characters and am hoping that the sex will be toned down a bit in favor of the story.

Now onto the prequel! I've since discovered the authors recommended reading order, including the spin-offs and intend to follow the story that way.

** Not an ARC review ** 3.5 stars rounded up. Apparently we have another new author that pulled it all together for their debut with more to come. I hope she can live up to this one and show even more growth and maturity as the series progresses. **Spoiler

I'm impressed. The blurb makes it seem like it's going to be mostly a PWP/erotic paranormal/fantasy type book...and it is... but surprisingly it has a somewhat strong paranormal/fantasy plot premise that fits in nicely between all the pretty well written sex scenes and should be expanded in future books if the author is paying attention.

The plot is intriguing and as the adventure is beginning I am actually invested in how this is going to turn out for Sawyer and the gang. Bonus: the sex is extremely hot and kinky with dirty talk and inventive positions and I can't tell you how much I LOVED how Draco embraced his mates and cared for them. Probably one of the most romantic and loving personality traits I've seen written in a long time.

I want to tackle this reverse or gay harem label thing though. Where did this come from? This is a polyamorous (m/m/m/m/m) book. All the guys get it on with each other. Nobody is really more focused on then anyone else to a large extent. Yeah, Sawyer and Draco are probably the mainest characters but there are no set couples; this is not even monogamish. All 5 of these guys pair up and triple up and swap around without any jealousy or issues. Their bed fits all of them at once (and their bathtub too) no problem. They are mates. No one is being serviced by 4 guys exclusively. And there are still 4 more guardians on their way to join them.

I hope Macy Blake is not a slow writer and that the next part of this series comes around sooner rather than later.

Note on the cover, I don't picture any of these guys as young as this cover except maybe Sawyer and Henry. I think it's a bit misleading and seems a little bit more YA then intended. This is not a YA book

So I just binged this whole series, and the best part is that it gets even better as it goes. The first two books I was kind of thinking of them like potato chip crack -- you can't put them down once you've started even though you know it's just a bag full of empty calories. But then Book 3 comes along chock-full of substance!!

As with the prequel, there are some noticeable gaps in our knowledge of the world-building, and I have to admit I was starting to lose faith that those were ever going to be filled in. But I'm happy to say it all starts to pay off in Book 3.

And it's a fun ride on the way there. I wouldn't call this first book a f#ck-fest, but...I wouldn't NOT call it a f#c-fest either... :) But it's a f#ck-fest full of dragons, griffins, vampires and mages, and that part is lots of fun! The story-telling feels fresh, and, well, I just read 5.5 books in not quite 4 days, so I'm calling it a pretty solid win :)

Alright, Look...

It's a whole lotta info dump and some very...intriguing M/M, M/M/M, and oh wait M/M/M/M etc. combos.

Authors, please stop calling these "harem" romances. It carries an extremely negative connotation for some people, myself included.

I picked this one up based on an excellent blurb and for the paranormal factor. Had that not been the case, I'd have left it behind because of the "harem" references, as I have done with many, many others before.

Regardless, I was not disappointed.

The character-development is a little superficial because there are quite a few, after all, with more incoming. The mythos builds on itself and is very solid by the end of this book. That is a strong point.

My brain is weaving out possible plot lines like string theory. THAT is a better than strong point. I honestly cannot wait to see what's next.

Started out great, then, at the 50% mark, it turned into what I assume is the author's idea of a porn movie. I skimmed-skipped through the rest of the book. It reminded me of another book I am only now admitting to have read, both in structure and plot, with a Chosen One theme but with angels and a demon/fallen angel: Angel Bound I never went back to that series either.
