Fractured Men

Rate this book
Sometimes what you never thought would happen, does. All at once. A furnace explodes taking your house with it. A cop at the door says your father’s dead. Or lightning strikes from the ice-blue eyes of a much-too-young-for-you man you pass in a doorway.

One year to the day later, the young man was my husband.

I slid onto a counter stool and Cam handed me a mug of coffee. A big slice of his grandmother Dee’s apple pie waited on a brick red ceramic dish. Our cell phones lay on Cam’s side of the breakfast bar.

He made quite the ceremony of turning my phone off and dropping it into the silverware drawer. “For the seven days of our honeymoon, you are not a homicide detective.”

Somebody should've told the killer.

THE BOYS ARE BACK in a "cozy mystery" done Hunt&Cam style that would give Agatha Christie the vapors! Love, sex and murder at an isolated canyon resort with our fave BDSM honeymoon couple. Cam really wants to get Hunt away from his job and onto a horse—God willin' and the creek don't rise.

Only then it started raining. ... And something popped up.

For adults who like puzzles and power dynamics.

This sixth (the novella is included in the first novel) book in the series has to be read in order. I have enjoyed the whole series for the BDSM and emotional/romantic dynamic of the main characters and also the mysteries. I recommend starting with book 1.

Hunter and Cam are now married, and their honeymoon isn't going as anyone had planned. A visit to Hunter's family is now impossible, and the change to a BDSM playground in a remote canyon resort turns into a disaster as a flash flood hits. Rather than being able to focus on each other exclusively for a few days, they find themselves trying to save others. And when they find a murdered body, Hunter's role as a cop has to come to the front, whether Cam is ready to take a backseat to that on his honeymoon or not.

I really liked this look at their relationship as they, particularly Hunter, work out what marriage means to them. I was interested to see Hunt refine his definition of his sexuality,

The mystery was also interesting, and I enjoyed seeing Hunter in his law enforcement role around a bunch of stranded people. The mystery part was done professionally on Hunt's part, which I always appreciate.

I almost marked this book down further though, for one issue that bothered me. More than once Hunter calls a secondary character "transsexual" when they are pretty clearly transgender. (And Cam does not correct him, showing that the terminology choice is the author's.) "Transsexual" is an outdated term for transgender folk, and while there are a few older trans people in the US (and perhaps more in other countries) who still claim that label as their own, there is no evidence this character was one of them. In that specific absence of choice, it's now generally considered a bit ignorant and offensive to use it to label transgender people.

Terminology is one thing, even in a character whose role is in part to smooth interactions between authorities and an LGBTQ BDSM/kink community and could be expected to know better. But the role of the character in the story bugged me too.

So in all, a good look at characters I find interesting and sympathetic, an interesting mystery, but skip this one if a somewhat oblivious portrayal of a trans character will bother you.

This was a “read in one hit” book ... I just couldn’t move and was totally hooked ... I love Cam & Hunter - they have a groove & sync that’s awesome, regardless of circumstance. Honeymoon, flood, crime & birthday - there’s a mix of fun !

This is book 6 in a series that you really need to read from the beginning. I will assume you have already done that, are in love with Hunt and Cam and are hyped up with the opportunity to read more of them. Hunt and Cam have a pretty unique dynamic – it is what, in my opinion, plays a huge factor in how much I enjoy reading about them. Their story is different, and also because of their unique power dynamic, the scenes are even hotter than I believe they would otherwise be.

Hunt and Cam don’t just have great sexual chemistry though. They have entertaining banter and comradery and it is easy to see why and how much they care for each other. Here, they are on their honeymoon. For those who know these guys, did you ever think either would be interested in marriage? Not me! But, despite that, they found a way to make a relationship flourish balancing their relationship at home with their separate personal lives, as well as their careers. Roles are a bit reversed with them where work is concerned, but again, that adds to their ability to make things work.

We know Cam has a deteriorating disease, and the fears associated with it remain in the background (mostly in Cam’s). Thankfully, Hunt didn’t let that deter Cam from committing, and a honeymooning they are on. One of the goals on this honeymoon is for Hunt to turn off his detective side for a short time, which of course, is extremely difficult for him. It doesn’t help that disaster strikes in the form of a debilitating storm. Throw in a flash flood hitting their canyon getaway, a dead body that clearly didn’t succumb to the weather-related event, and Hunt is back on a mission to solve the mystery. Thankfully, he has his best co-worker right by his side to help.

I am amazed at the speed at which Ms. August can whip up a Cam/Hunt story with the end result being a well-put together, smooth story. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever get enough of these two, whether they are burning up the sheets (or other places), solving mysteries or just having general conversations. These are definitely stories that have me flipping pages quickly while trying to slow down to make it last. Definitely recommend if you like your BDSM stories a little different where there is much more to the story than the BDSM. Hunt&Cam4Evah!!

The book prior to Fractured Men in the series is Secret Men, widely believed to be the final offering in the series. It did an admirable job of wrapping up the series with two murder mysteries, Cam’s proposal, the wedding, and a bit of hope for Cam’s Huntington’s Disease in the form of a clinical trial with promising results. So Fractured Men comes as a surprise and it feels like a gift from author Adira August, especially the first third which focuses on Hunt and Cam’s relationship. There’s a lot of sappiness…which I gobbled up. This is an aspect – togetherness and tenderness – I felt was lacking in some of the previous books, so I completely welcomed the spotlight on the couple.

The book is even more of a departure from the series in that it occurs on their honeymoon – away from home, and away from the rest of the crime busting cadre including Twee, Merisi, Avia, Natani and others. As much as I loved the increase in Hunt and Cam time, when the story got to the murder mystery, I did miss the team members and the well-oiled murder solving machine they comprise.

Fractured Men begins the day after Secret Men concluded, which was their wedding day. The book replays the wedding and I welcomed the opportunity to revisit their unconventional “vows”, which were so perfect for Hunt and Cam’s union. It left my heart melting. All the feels for me! During this book, Hunt and Cam acknowledge what they need from each other and how their relationship has changed now that they’re married.

“I’m your husband and your Dom and I decide what to give you for the rest of our lives. And you take it.”

“Yes, Cam.” Something like a wave of energy washed over me, leaving me free. “And my job is to care for you and protect you. And because you love me, you’re going to let me do that, the way I choose to do it, for the rest of our lives.”

The sex, while still very hot and very sexy, now has the added components of romance and quiet maturity. There are also more BDSM scenes than I remember in the past and they exemplify their Dom/sub, total power exchange dynamic commendably, complete with humiliation and sadism from Cam, the “Full Metal Dom”.

The murder mystery encompasses the last two-thirds of the book. The plot is enjoyable and the story moves along at a steady pace. The author calls the story a “cozy mystery done Hunt & Cam style that would give Agatha Christie the vapors”. Well that’s for sure. I don’t ever recall Miss Marple in handcuffs and ball gags. So while it resembles a cozy in that it occurs in a small setting with a group of suspects and the big reveal and arrest in everyone’s presence, it’s not a true cozy because of the sex and because the main character and crime solver is not an amateur sleuth. It is unfortunate that with one exception, there aren’t any memorable or particularly likable secondary characters. The whodunit is absorbing, although the murderer was not a surprise, in the least. The mystery is intertwined with a natural disaster which creates additional tension and suspense and serves as a nice touch. While I enjoyed the mystery, I kept thinking, “More sappy, sexy times please!”

Points of Interest:

- The narrator switches back and forth, within the same chapter, between third person and Hunt’s POV. It’s a bit odd.

- The editing could have been tighter. There were at least a dozen grammatical and usage errors that the editor missed. They were annoying but not too distracting the way incorrect punctuation tests a reader’s patience.

- Even though this is the sixth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone because the beginning succinctly outlines the men’s history from their first meeting. Additionally, none of the usual characters are in this book so new readers won’t be in the dark. That said, readers will get more from the book if they have read the whole series.

I recommend this book with the note that it will have the most significant impact on previous fans of Hunt and Cam. If you’re a reader who can’t get enough of this pair, you’ll love the book.

I’ll leave you with a quote from Hunt that will pull at the heartstrings:

"And then there was Cam. Who gave me belonging. I loved every manly thing about him because those things were him. I craved the feel of him like a drug, to be touched by him and joined to him. I loved his way of caring and his shy smile and his immense talent and his power and fastidiousness and insistence on excellence from himself. Accepting his way of taking care of me I gave him as the only gift I had to offer in gratitude for his existence.

I absolutely love Cam and Hunter and was excited to read about their honeymoon. Their D/s relationship is so powerful and intense, definitely needed by both of them, but they both also came to important understandings about their love and commitment as husbands. Their week long honeymoon, free from anything work-related, didn't last long. A murder and very bad weather put a damper on things. I look forward to the next book.

"This was where they truly lived for one another, in the power of surrender and safety of control. In the trust that allowed them to use each other, by which they gave to each other. In the absolute joy of mutual lust."

If you’ve been following my reviews at all you won’t be surprised when I say that I’m a HUGE fan of the Hunt&Cam4Ever series. I’ve been raving about these two men since I met them for the very first time in On His Knees/Matchstick Men and have only fallen deeper in love with them with every subsequent book. Fractured Men, the latest instalment, is a very welcome, totally delicious, and very compelling addition to the series.

The fabulousness starts in the very first chapter with a rather short but sublime description of Cam and Hunts wedding and it is EVERYTHING. The glimpse we get is as perfect in its simplicity as it is meaningful and an exquisite portrayal of who these two men are together. A few pages in and I was a blubbering mess while smiling hugely.

Their honeymoon, which should have taken the form of a BDSM dreamtime far away from crimes and interruptions, goes off to a good and, of course, very hot start. But even before there are any signs of trouble, Hunt’s instincts kick in, telling him something isn’t quite right. But, because he is on his honeymoon, he pushes those feelings aside to concentrate on what should be and is his main focus: Cam, his Dom and husband.

Of course, there are a few things we can be sure about when it comes to Cam and Hunt. For starters, there is no doubt that they will be hot as f**k and always manage to come up with something new and exciting while exploring the dynamic between them. The second certainty is that they will, invariably, run into a crime in need of solving.

Their peaceful hideaway turns into a prison of sorts when the rains come and the river and canyon flood, sealing Hunt, Cam, and the other guests in the canyon off from the rest of the world. Of course, that’s also the moment Hunt discovers a corpse who, as far as Hunt can tell, didn’t die from natural causes.

Thus begins yet another investigation. But this one is different from their earlier exploits because due to their isolation, there is only a very limited pool of suspects, which turns Fractured Men into the sort of mystery that reminded me of Agatha Christie and other ‘manor house’ or ‘locked room’ crime stories. Although I suspect the Grande Dame of Mystery might have raised a few eyebrows while reading this book. 😊

I’m not saying anything else about the crime or its solution. Read it and figure it out with Hunt and Cam as they investigate. What I do want to say is that this story came with a fabulous cast of secondary characters, one a blast from Cam’s past. I will also say that while the solution to the mystery was flawless and convincing, it also left me somewhat heartbroken. Then again, it wouldn’t be a Hunt&Cam4Ever story if it didn’t arouse an endless stream of emotions.

As always, these two men are arresting (pun intended), unique, and an absolute joy to read about. Cam in Dom mode is magnificent, almost larger than life, and pretty much a polar opposite to the Cam who’s ‘just’ Hunt’s husband and still young and often shy. While Hunt remains the best example of power in submission I have ever read, as well as one of the most intriguing and complex characters I have encountered.

I’ll end on a bit of advice. If you haven’t read these books yet, do yourself a huge favour and pick up Matchstick Men. I challenge anyone to read that book and not obsessively read all the sequels in quick succession. Just make sure you have a fair bit of time on your hands when you start one of these books. Putting it down once you’ve started reading is all but impossible.

Top notch series continues! 5 stars and more!

I love Hunter and Cam! Great writing, great characters, sexy, and erotic.

What I love most about this author is her incredible psychological insight into the behaviors of her characters, especially the MCs.

The mystery is good, despite being the somewhat stereotypical convenient dead body and a cop is always a cop even while on their vacation (honeymoon) plot. Hunter does what he does with his usual precision which reads accurate to this layperson. However, the mystery is secondary, as it should be, because this is first and foremost a romance.

And what a romance it is! Hunter and Cam are made for each other. In this book, they are newlyweds and still adjusting to their relationship and it's wonderful being on the journey with them. The author expertly weaves the power shifting from Hunter in detective mode, to the heavy BDSM, to everything in between and it's swoon-worthy. ☺😍🔥

If you like MM BDSM with some mystery, I highly recommend this series and this book. I've read the previous books multiple times and this latest addition to the series fits right in. I hope there are many, many more books in this series in the future!

I love these guys...

Cam and Hunter just got married, and Hunter has planned an awesome honeymoon at a resort aimed at their kink. As they’re settling in and getting ready for some sexy times, they’re interrupted by a natural catastrophe and...as Hunter discovers...a murder, and Hunter is forced into police mode: he and Cam rescue the other guests, plan an evacuation, and gather evidence of the crime. They also must face the changes that their marriage is making to their relationship.

I was thrilled to discover this additional book - I thought the series had concluded with the last installment, but YAY!!!

It’s a great story: there’s Cam and Hunter working through the changes to their dynamic now that they’re married. They’re as much, or more, committed to each other as before, but they see both themselves and their feelings in a new way.

Then there’s the disaster and the murder to keep the story rolling along. Hunter’s very sexy in his ‘man-in-charge’ role, and Cam is just amazing, per usual.

The only reason for four stars? Well...honestly the ending was a bit....blah. The story just ran out of gas.

But...I still love these guys.

Outstanding !!!!

This series just keeps on improving, not the usual to be expected plot, but hey there is absolutely nothing, usual about Hunt & Cam. Some honeymoon, initially at the start of this novel I was all, oh this seems as if its going to explore the full on bdsm element of their relationship. WRONG !!!! it was soooo not ha, Cam is always the dom yet he wanted Hunt the cop, not to be the cop while they honeymooned in 'bdsm paradise". Impossible, being a cop isn't his is job, its in his dna !!! This novel is about the real passion, the unquestionable understanding a true partnership have for each other, acting for one another whithout hesitation. Just the knowing of doing......true love, So yeah Hunt&Cam4Ever is a love story. Fractured men nope I don't think so........

This series is for you you if you want, a mm romantic love story, that's filled with intrigue, suspence, murders and erotic art from a author of immense talent.

Work of Art

No spoilers at all! You would have to discover, unravel and live this work of art yourself.

I came upon this book by chance and it has been a one lovely chance finding this gem!.

There is humour, thriller, family, and the romance is mouth watering.
These books are ones you want to consume so quickly because it takes you in; and at the same time you wish to freeze time so it does not end. The Dilemma of finish it and hold onto it!

Join us in the lives of Cam and Hunter along with the side characters. We all wish for this kind of love and friendship between and amongst us.

Adira, thank you for sharing your talent and these lovely characters with us.

Please start from the first book to appreciate the love that went into writing these books. You would savour a pie from the crusty outside to the gooey goodness inside- not the other way round.

Enjoy the ride 💃🏽💃🏽

I had almost forgotten how much I liked these boys but it all came rushing back when I dove in to this book, and the time I binged the previous books came back as well.
Hunt and Cam just becomes better at time goes by, with their relationship growing and we see Hunter understanding what having a husband means.
I love Hunter's intuition, the subtle way the story builds around it along with the youthful side of Cam compared to the Dom that so easily bring Hunter to his knees.

I never know where the story will go with the mystery, I just know there will be one, and that's part of what I love. Along with googling the facts that are put in the book, looking up equipment they use. It makes it even more visual and adds to it for me.

Our two men won't disappoint and keeps my attention from beginning to end.

Woooohoooo! What a roller coaster ride. Hunt and Cam go on their honeymoon to a remote resort setting in a cabin provided by their friends from Scene and not Heard. But of course you know if Hunt and Cam are involved, things can't go smoothly :)

There is mystery, danger, wild weather, obnoxious guests, helpful guests, secretive guests, etc. Their honeymoon is blown off tracks almost as soon as it's begun. But they work together to save not only their honeymoon, but their lives and those of the others trapped.

I loved every pulse-pounding moment of this story :) I could read about these guys forever - so once again I heartily endorse this series. Absolutely one of my favorites.

I loved this book. I received a free copy in return for an honest review from the author and I consider myself to be so lucky.
The whole series has been great but this particular book was excellent. Hunter and Cam are now married and on their honeymoon but things don't go smoothly. I really don't want to say what happens to them but rest assured that they are challenged. There are some great BDSM scenes and there are some lovely Hunter and Cam scenes but it is the danger and they mystery which had me on the edge of my seat.
Very well written and edited.
You really should read this series in order to get the full impact of this wonderful relationship.
Highly recommended.

Happily addicted to this series, I consumed this next chapter in the lives of Hunt & Cam, one of my favorite fic couples, in one go. I love that the author, unlike so many, feels that their story didn’t end simply because they married. It was wonderful that they continue to explore their loving and incredibly intense physical relationship while dealing with difficult and thrilling cases. I highly recommend you read the books in order to fully appreciate and understand the development of their relationship (professional, cultural, BDSM, trust, love, marriage), and the case histories that impacted their lives.

Love Hunt & Cam

EVERY single Adira August book has me eager for more Hunt & Cam. This one is no different. There are twists and turns, mysteries that feed the mind's thirst for knowledge or puzzles.
As usual, these two can't seem to go anywhere without a break from murder... Not even a honeymoon during which they leave behind their computers and phones.
The BDSM scenes written by Adira are always detailed and provide insight to how the Dom and sub feel, what benefits they get from the experience. THIS is magic and I always enjoy it.
There were a few typos and a couple inconsistencies within the book (name spelling). That's the only reason for the four versus five stars.

Another great read about Hunt and Cam.

I always enjoy the twists and turns in Adira August's mysteries. The way August develops the emotional connection between Hunt and Cam is very engaging, and of course the physical connection is intense.

There are a few moments where some descriptions are a bit hard for me to follow, but overall, I am impressed with the author's ability to create visual descriptions of a scene. I also appreciate the way the author incorporates Hunter's cultural background into the story. The subtle notes about differences in Hunter's upbringing versus Cam's are nicely done.

I wish I could give 5 stars but...

I started reading this series after Secret Men came out; and I have absolutely loved Hunt and Cam. I've anxiously waited for the next installment, and I wish I loved this book as much as the others, but it was a bit lack luster. Plus I didn't really like how it switched from 1st person (Hunt's POV) to 3rd person (Cam's POV). But, while this wasn't (IMO) the best of this series I am looking forward to more of these two. Hoping we get some peeks into Hunt caring for Cam after his Huntington's treatments.

As in every book in this series, Hunt and Cam move their relationship forward. They learn more about each other and about themselves. Their love is strong and their commitment to each other grows stronger each day. Their honeymoon was certainly eventful. While staying in a remote mountain resort, there is a flood and a murder. As a law enforcement official, Hunter takes charge. It was good to see Hunt & Cam work a case together. The case and some of the characters were very sad. But, the resolution was satisfying as was getting another glimpse of Hunt & Cam.

O the Efficacy of Their Marriage! Da Feelz. At last. It was truly satisfying to witness how their wedding made a difference. Marriage was clearly sacramental and transformative for our two heroes, Hunter Dane and Camden Snow.

PS: Not for the murder mystery, which is self-contained, but to appreciate the relationship, I wouldn't call this stand-alone. Of all the books in the series, this one more than all the others requires the cumulative context to savor the progress of H&C's relationship .

I give this book a 4.5 rating. I cannot get enough of Cam and Hunter. Their honeymoon was one for the books. You just can't turn the cop off in Hunter. But that's part of what makes him a great man. And Cam is right by his side. He's his partner in everything they do. Their relationship is uniquely their own. And no matter what happens that's what brings them back. Murder and mayhem with Cam and Hunter, what else do you need.

I’m not quite sure on the reading order that you should insert The interrogation into, but I think maybe before this one. Since we have the wedding and the honeymoon and I get the impression that the events of the interrogation happened prior this book and the ones that follow. But I haven’t read it yet, so I’m not sure. I just know some things were referenced in this and the next book and it confused me. Anyhow, this was a subtly intense case for both Hunt and Cam. I was hoping for some more sex and romance for a honeymoon but that is not how life works sometimes cause Hunt is amazing and he feels so duty bound. These two guys are amazing and beautiful and I love their story.

Another brilliant Hunt & Cam story. I love these guys. Please keep their story alive and release lots more from them. My only niggle about this story was the lack of either “scenes” or Hunt and Cam getting together sexually. Previous books had lots of them. Also I think it needed a scene with Hunt getting all of his fear and life’s ugliness out of himself in their usual dynamic fashion.

Love

I could read 400 Hunt and Cambooks and never grow bored. The mystery parts are always cleverly written, maybe not in a way that disguises who dun it, but in a way where the procedures reveal the intelligence of the detective, and make him more real. Same goes with Cam and his perceptions and brilliance. Love their relationship.

I've missed these guys

Hunt and Cam were my introduction to BDSM with no Daddy kink, and I loved them from the beginning. I enjoy mystery/suspense novels and mixed with hot BDSM sex between two fascinating characters like these makes for some great reading.
I don't think this is the strongest of the series, but it's still an excellent read, and one I am sure I will reread.

Love this series.....

While this series centers on activities with which I'm largely unfamiliar, I found myself riveted by each entry. (As I type this it dawns on me that I spend a lot of time reading unfamiliar topics lol). Hopefully it won't be another year before we see the boys again.
