Devlin

Sex comes with a price tag.

One I’m quite willing to pay.

In fact, I prefer it.

It’s easier that way, and in my life, I prefer ease. Prefer for most things to be transactional.

So when the intern disrupts my day, I’m not happy about it. I have a dark and dirty little secret he knows about. One that could destroy my reputation in a world where reputation is everything.

That makes him dangerous.

He could ruin me professionally, wreck my life, but the touch of his mouth to mine, the feel of him in my arms—they’re all I can think about.

I’m intoxicated.

Drunk on him, when I’ve always been sober.

Micah

I’m gay.

The freedom in admitting that is intoxicating. Enough to make me feel drunk with the relief of finally being myself.

But what feels better?

Devlin.

He’s my boss. He holds my future in his hands in more ways than he knows, but he isn’t as free as I am. Doesn’t have the same freedom I do to own up to what he is.

Because of that, I know I’m losing him.

I can feel us becoming DOA.

But is he worth fighting for when he won’t admit what I am to him? What we mean to one another?

I guess you’ll have to read on to find out…

I loved this story! The story had a great cast of characters that were easy to love and fall in love with. For an author who just decided to write her first M/M book, I think she did a really great job.

We loved Devlin and Micah as a couple and despite their age gap, they made the perfect couple. What we really loved is that even though this couple really didn't know what the heck they were doing with one another, there was always passion and affection between them even when they were practically strangers. A mystery as to why that was, perhaps? Fate, intuition, instant connection?

One thing about this story is that it wasn't just your typical hookup story it was so much more, it was filled with raw emotion and passion, and grit and had something more sinister going on behind the scenes.

I loved Devilin who dominated the business world could also be the man we got to know that could be socially awkward when it came to dating, was sexy, British, and a Viscount, and one that wants to live on his own terms, not someone else's. Hot and sexy as sin and fan worthy.

Micah was just an all-around sweetheart that made you fall instantly in love with him. We loved that he could be sexy and charming but, from the moment we met him, we just thought he had one beautiful soul. We loved that he felt free in owning his own sexuality because Devilin is still coming to terms with his and getting and keeping what he wants with Devilin is going to be quite challenging but, we suspect, Micah is very much up to that challenge. Furthermore, we found this sexy intern to be a swoon-worthy opponent!

Overall, we loved the story that was filled with love and emotion and hotness and was messy but, it was also about growth and acceptance. We enjoyed that the fact this couple came from a similar background and each was exposed to great wealth, and although they liked what that wealth afforded them, they never came off thinking they were superior to everyone else and the simplest things like cooking and sharing and meal and watching movies together simply made them happy. This story is going to make you smile and laugh and cry and at times rip your heart out, but, the raw emotion the story wrought kept us turning the pages to the bitter end.

Wow! That’s the first word that comes to mind when I think of The Intern by Serena Akeroyd. The second thing that comes to mind is that it was definitely different from most other MM books I’ve read in such a great way. This story was emotional, steamy, intense, and breathtaking.

Let’s start with the unique part. Most of the best MM authors tend to have books that are story-driven. What makes The Intern different is that there seem to be multiple plot lines that are threaded together to make this really robust, engaging story. And the way Serena writes means she integrates all of these threads to create the most intricate story. It’s so good.

Next, let’s take the characters themselves. I will start with Devlin because...yum! He’s a little bit older, at 38, British, a true blue blood, smart, arrogant, and absolutely gorgeous. Micah describes him as “Devlin—CEO, awkward at dating, Viscount, hot as f*ck, and secret feeder.”

And then there’s Micah. OMG! What a sweetheart! As beautiful inside as he is outside. Young, at 22, eager, smart, loving, charming, and oh so very sexy! Getting Devlin to fall for him is going to be a feat to which only Micah seems up to the task. I love that Devlin says “That was how I knew what I felt for Micah was different than anything I’d ever known before. I had patience. I had interest. It was twined together with want, strengthened with desire, but more importantly, there was—Christ. My heart was in on this, and there was no going back.”

So when I say this story has everything...I mean it has everything! For her first full-length MM novel, Serena Akeroyd has scored a home run. You will smile, laugh, cry, shout, get angry, be sad, have to put you Kindle down while you recover from the steamiest sex scenes and swoon as your heart swells. The Intern is utter perfection!

This is the definition of a straight white woman writing a male male romance.

Utterly ridiculous.

I just... I wanted to smash something. One of the reasons why I read male romance is because sometimes Heroines literally makes me see red, I can't handle two seconds of their shit.

And that's the spark of male male romance. Because it's so different to heterosexual romance. Their attitude, their perception, their manner, hell their language is bloody different. It's just different and it's so fucking special

But this seriously felt cheap.

Not going to lie, I loved the opening to this book. About less than half way into this book, I was loving the characters, I was loving the writing even though it drove me crazy which I'll talk about in a minute, I ate all that shit up. I loved their chemistry and their interactions (Yes that's all the good I can talk about it)

But somewhere along the way, the writing was just trying TOO. DAMN. HARD. like I'm sorry, the author explained that she's british but correct me if I'm wrong, but why do you need to use a swedish word that states a swedish feast when their having sex. Like dude. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING?

It tried to be poetic so in her benefit, there were moments where the writing worked it's magic but I'm not going to lie, it drove me mad. It drove me mad that it wasn't even british slang I was learning.

That and half of the time, well the first half of this book was just: WHAT ARE YOU BLOODY TALKING ABOUT and then I gave up and couldn't be bothered to give two more seconds to a sentence I didn't want to analyze.

Around the climax of the book, this book just got boring. There was a topic in this book that I will not discuss but it was written and I'm sorry, I'm a monster but I just felt SO. BORED. reading it. All I could think about, can I read something else or can you just get on with your predictable plot line?

And to be honest, in hindsight, I thought I got bored of soft scenes BUT NO! THERE ARE NO BLOODY SOFT SCENES.
It's them just having sex. Micah judging Devin or Devlin for being awkward and flustered around him. Them having sex. Them explaining how hot they are for one another. Enter conflict and before yet again it's resolved by them fucking banging again LIKE NOT HAVING SEX CAN'T BE BLOODY INTIMATE!

Micah? The fucking intern himself, is it ironic or is it not that I HATE, I LOATHE his guts.

It's honestly hysterical if I should worry if it's the author saying this or it's micah himself just belittling men. Really can someone smack him for good riddance?

Also. Some of the shit Micah said. I'm not gonna write here cus I swear to God, it's gonna trigger someone, but What. The. Fuck. I literally screamed against my pillow cus my mind was BLOWN and not in a damn good way, the AUDACITY, THE FUCKING CONSCIENCE HE HAD for saying shit like that.

For context. It's in the epilogue.

Honestly. He was just..cheap. Entitled. Annoying. Low-key kinda judgemental. And there was just one or hell maybe two scenes that I am quite disgusted by because it rubbed me off the WRONG FUCKING WAY on how it felt like he was fucking USING Devin. Or Devlin or whatever the fuck his name is. I swear I just finished this book not even 30 mins ago and I'm already forgetting their names.

Okay now that counts on my STUPIDITY.

Oh and if you're still here, just a caution.

If you're a feminist, don't read this book.
It will be the bane of your existence.

The only thing I liked about this book and I quite as I annotated it in my copy:

What an interesting perspective in the publishing industry and just companies and management in general. Not everything is as you see it to be

And

Jesus. It really does show everything is not what it fucking seems. No matter how many opinions you sought, no matter how many perspective you've heard off, nothing is what it seems aside from the truth and the only truth of the people involved

And the ending, the fuckery on this gaslight book, it didn't have a stupid conflict between the two leads and them breaking up and then reconciling. THANK FUCK. because if I read that, I would bloody rate this 1 GODDAMN STAR!

WOW! Talk about starting with a bang, and I mean literally!
The first chapter draws you into the MM world in the hottest and Intimate way. You must keep reading to see what happens next between Micah and Devlin.
I loved when Micah thought of Devlin as 'one massive mixed signal, but I liked that about him. He was an original, someone who danced to their own beat, and there were too few of that type of person around.'
So much happened in this book I don't want to give anything away. I will say that I wish Rhode would go to hell for what she did! I also how Devlin helped Micah get through everything.
Best of all, how Serena Akeroyd incorporated characters from one of my favorite books into this one, having Micah fangirl over Kurt and even mentioning that Serena Akeroyd lived close by, could Devlin make it so he could meet her. I loved Devlin's reaction to that one.
I loved that she ventured into the MM trope, and I've read other MM books, and this book had so much more in it. I laughed, cried, and smiled over the evolving love between these two. I wish Serena could make it into a duet so we could follow these two gorgeous men as they continue on this journey.
The Intern was a very HOT SEXY book worth more than five 🌟. Serena, for a book you were dared to write, you did one heck of a job!

Audible review:
Holy hotness! This book in Audible was a dream come true. Listening to Jacob Morgan as Devlin and Joe Arden as Micha was absolutely 💯 hot! These two brought Devlin and Micha to life, and the emotions bled through their voices. Reading this book was amazing, and Listening to it was even better.

This woman can write anything and I will devour it in one sitting. Which I did with The Intern. And am currently paying for with lack of sleep. This book tho!! I have never loved a MM storyline more, this one is so perfect, so beautiful. Micah and Devlin were sexy, sweet, funny, heartbreaking...I just love them so much. They go through a range of emotions and events during this book and watching them grow internally and with each other is just...it was amazing, it was beautiful (I know I said that already!)

Devlin, oh my gosh is he sexy. He is not super comfortable disclosing his sexuality to the world due to reputation and family, so he does so in the darkness of VICE, a club that has dark rooms available for men to hook up anonymously with other men. Thats where he meets Micah, and his world turns upside down, in all the best ways. Once he discovers Micah is an intern at his office he can't not see him again! He doesn't know what to do with these feelings for him so he wants to date?.. Devlin is so awkward and adorable during most of this dating time and it made me love him even more.

Micah is this sweetly positive, smart man who is comfortable in his own skin with his sexuality. He knows what he wants in life, has a career plan, and Devlin is now part of that plan once he realizes he's the one he was with at VICE. He doesn't want to give him up either and agrees to dating, although cautious for what I feel like are obvious reasons. Devlin is a known playboy so who knows what will happen.

The Intern was so good because you watch two people who are scared of what they are feeling but they are embracing it, they are trying to see if this is something they can do long term and it's so relatable to how dating happens. You are rooting for them the entire time! And can I just say that the sexy times were literally the most perfect thing ever. I love how in control Micah is when they are intimate, it's so sexy because he is so neutral out of the bedroom, you would assume Devlin is the more dominate one of the two but he is not! Which is equally as hot as Micah being the dominant of the two. So perfect, ok?! I am in love with the two all the way around. Thank you, Serena! I love these two forever <3

The Intern is a story that is going to WOW you in every possible way! It's hot, it's touching, it's emotional, it touches very closed door issues, and yet at the very core of this story it is just two men trying to figure out this emotion called love. The Intern is powerful.

Micah is catnip. A total snack. He's caring, he's sweet, he's hard working, there really isn't anything you can find wrong with this young intern. He may not have been out of the closet for long, but he knows who he is and what he wants to do in life. When he meets Devlin in the dark and has no idea he's the head of the company he's interning for, he certainly would like more, but has no idea his entire world will change after the first encounter.

Devlin is a known womanizer, but the fact that he's bi isn't a known fact. When he meets Micah he's not only enraptured by the man, he's literally tongue-tied for the first time in his life. Devlin runs a successful business on top of being a Viscount, Devlin has never found himself at a loss for words, but around Devlin he's speechless. Devlin finds his mind whirling when he's with Micah and he can't stop thinking about him when he's not with him. He's in new territory, changing all the rules and he doesn't know what to do about it.

I think the dynamic between these two is fascinating. The older businessman being enraptured by the younger intern. A man who shouldn't know who he is at his young age, but has already had quite a few struggles. Where as Devlin has had a longer life, but he's hidden behind his wealth, his title, and fear of just living. Finding your partner in life is always about this compromise of checks and balances or strengths and weaknesses.

Neither of these men have ever been in love before and the way they not only figure out their emotions together is beautiful, but how they work together to get through the struggles they come upon is so powerful. Nothing was brushed under the rug and everything was tied up by the end which I greatly appreciated as a reader. Devlin and Micah are the perfect balance to one another and that made the book very enjoyable to read.

This was not only a wonderful, and well written, romance story, it was an excellent MM romance to boot!

Holy Hell - This book is the absolute definition of gripping. The Intern grabbed me by the throat from the very first scene, and didn't let go.

It's almost impossible to describe The Intern without spoilers. Devlin and Micah's story takes you places you never expect to go, but you're SO glad you went there. I spent quite a while waiting for "the other shoe to drop" in the story, though I wasn't sure whether it would be Devlin or Micah who would initiate it. I never would have expected what happened in The Intern, and it quite literally kept me awake one night thinking about it.

While certain parts were difficult to read, it was so worth it to get to the end. Both characters are complicated, interesting, and ultimately very likeable. The tenderness and respect between them is heartwarming, and the way they stick together when the unthinkable happens brought tears to my eyes.

In my opinion, The Intern is one of the best books of 2020. It tackles some complicated and sensitive issues, but it was really well written, and it brings to light a subject that isn't talked about much, but should be. I LOVED The Intern, and I know it's a book I'll read again. It's the first book by Serena Akeroyd I've read - but it will not be the last! Five very enthusiastic stars for this one.

When I heard that Serena Akeroyd was writing her first MM... my excitement was through the roof. SHE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Getting to be a witness to Devlin and Micah as they move fully into themselves, feels like a gift. I am the most fond of books where the characters are still on their life transformations, as we all are...am I right!?!?! While addressing some very serious topics, Serena made sure that these characters are relatable, quirky, fun, and sexy. Yes, SEXY as all get out. This was a successful move for her. If you have read other books by Serena, you know that crossovers’s are common place. (The Easter egg in The Intern will make you smile) I am hoping to hear more from from Devlin and Micah in future books.
On a personal note.....this is an extremely trying time for many of us, for many reasons. I appreciate Serena for continuing to write books that give us sanctuary, even if for just a little while. In a time when so many of us are feeling very small, overwhelmed, and swallowed up....SA, GM, you have found your place. The smiles that this book gave me are a testament to your contribution to the world. Thank you!

Honestly, is there any genre that Serena Akeroyd CANNOT write? I've only discovered her this year, but have read her Irish mob series, the dark and dirty sinners MC series, her paranormal year of the wolf series, and bought the reverse harem Quintessence series (but have not dug into this one yet). The year of MM romance is amongst us (I have read quite a few this year that I loved), and Serena Akeroyd did a great job with this one!

"Devlin Astley wasn't a wise prospect. He had heartache written all over him."

This book packed some steam, and started off with a sexy encounter at VICE, a club where men can go to hook-up. It's the pet project of Devlin Astley, CEO of Astley Publishing Company, Viscount of Lynden, hot playboy who also likes to dabble in the darkroom with men. Micah Nygard, hot Swede, intern at Astley Publishing Company, working on his MBA, just had his first taste of men in Devlin. They both can't get enough of each other, and explore their relationship when they spot each other at work. Though there are plenty of sexy workplace encounters, both Devlin and Micah are endearing in the first foray into a relationship. Devlin's awkward and very proper, and Micah's relaxed California personality may seem to clash but it works well in bringing them together and providing space in their relationship to grow. Beneath their love story is the undercurrent of the harsh realities for gay men. The author created such complex characters that experienced a lot of difficulty in their lives: disownment or fear of it from your family, the predatory nature of the workplace, being attacked by someone (male or female!), the mental and physical exhaustion of carrying secrets, recovering from abuse, and figuring out what makes you happy. Devlin and Micah struggles to express their feelings to each other, but also to navigate how homophobic, dangerous, and unaccepting the world is, even today. People can be so evil and self absorbed, but I hope each of us can find someone who will bring us lunch and some coconut water. I love that Serena Akeroyd created characters that were flawed with insecurities, adorably awkward in expressing their feelings, but ultimately so loyal, caring, and open to each other. I adored both characters and wish they were my friends in real life!

Joe Arden and Jacob Morgan are big names in the narrator game, and they bring so many emotions to this book! Highly recommend the audio for maximum feelings!

Simply Outstanding!!! This book absolutely took my break away. I was blown away when I read that this was the first MM book the author has written. I do so hope she continues to do so. While this isn’t my everyday genre to read, I do love a good MM romance that is written well with a good backstory to the romance. HOLY COW did The Intern ever fit the bill and then some. Kudos Ms. Akeroyd and I look forward to reading many more of your works.

Devlin and Micah’s story is heartfelt and beautifully written. They meet in the shadows during what is supposed to be an anonymous encounter. However when the lights flicker faces are briefly seen. Amagine Devlin, a Billionaire Publishing Magnate surprise, when he finds out the young man he can't get out of his mind, from that anonymous night, works for him as an intern.

Devlin doesn’t believe in love. Due to his high profile he keeps his personal preferences in the shadows. He’s even opened an underground club where he can hide his pleasures from the light of day. But when he meets Micah, he starts to question everything. Micha gave up a life of luxury to live freely. These two don’t have an easy road to romance. But when they come together it’s like lightning in a bottle. I literally couldn’t stop reading. Their path is a rough one but was addicting to this reader.

An age difference MM Romance book. One hot hook up between strangers Devlin & Micah turns complicated when Micah gets a job as an intern. Only to find out that Devlin is his boss in a round about way. You can't help but love both of these characters though. Devlin comes across as confident and self assured but it's a shell he hides behind. Whereas Micah hasn't been out for long so he's still finding his feet so to speak. So when they met neither one had much knowledge of being in a MM relationship but I think the beauty of Devlin & Micah being together was they took the time with each other. To discover together. That was really endearing. Yes it was still full of smoking hot steam but it was also full of tentative emotions, trust and love. More so with the major event Micah went through. (It made me want to hug him and hurt the one that hurt him). The aftermath of which brought on the feels especially with how Micah and Devlin tried to cope with it. I loved their book so much. It was a great read

Title - The Intern is like a hug you don’t want to be release from

Usually when I review a book, I read it and then let the review stew in my mind for 24 hours to gather my thoughts and then write. Not with the Intern. This was the first time I sat with my thoughts and was so enamored with the story, I had to jump back in and re-read it. Although the story of how Micah and Devlin met might have to be changed if they had to relive it for Children one day, lol, the story of how they fell in love, is a story that should be retold over and over forever.

I loved the balance of inner strength and need both Micah and Devlin had in the story. How they came to find out how much they needed the other man as much as their next breath was just beautiful and a testament to the strength of the story and the author’s unabashed grasp of the human heart.

I will keep coming back to the Intern. I’d like to be in the company of both Micah and Devlin. The story really is like a hug you just don’t want to let you go.

When I read the blurb I was thinking the 'dark secret' was more of the kink or forbidden variety but it was not. The whole secret itself was that the heir of one of Britain's wealthiest family was bisexual and that he went to an underground club called VICE- that he owned btw- for gay bareback hookups.
Doesn't sound like much of a secret, nor did Devlin treat it much like one.

I really liked Devlin. I especially loved that while he probably resembles your garden variety cocky gazillionaire he didn't act like one. He was all sweet and adorably growly and cuddly and just all round cute.

And the rape. I don't think I've ever hated a character as much as I hated Rhodes. And Robert. Poor guy, nobody even gave him the time of day for as serious problem as rape just because he happened to be a man and the crime was committed by a woman.

"He tasted so good that I couldn’t pull back, pull out of his hold. I had no choice but to sink into this kiss like he sank into me..."

5 I need an Intern Stars!!! Serena could rewrite the phone book and I'd read it!

Micah is a younger man and a new intern at a very important company. He's a super sweet, caring young guy... basically the total package. And while he hasn't been out of the closet long, he knows what he wants and he's not afraid to go after it. Devlin is an older man and the owner of the company that Micah is interning for. Devlin is knows for his womanizing ways, but no one knows he's also bi-sexual. That's something he keeps close to him. The minute he meets Micah all bets are off. Micah flusters Devlin in ways he's not used to. He can't keep Micah off his mind and he knows there's something different with him...

OMG, I don't read many MM books, but I have to say this one is definitely one of my favorites! There's substance and a beautiful story that's being told. There's a few plots going on, but it's so easy to follow along. Serena seriously knows how to write a story that will suck you in the second you start to read! I have to say I loved the build up of Micah and Devlin's love story... it was beyond beautiful. I can't wait to read more of Serena in the future!

Okay, so, this.story!, gaaaaaaaaaah, what an unexpectedly awesome surprised it turned out to be. Not because I do not hold the author’s talent in high regard or because I had low expectations going in of any kind. It surprised me because it was a full package of yumminess and heart and a whole bunch of *happy sigh* and I dunno, but I just didn’t see it coming till I was in it and it was glorious!

This is also one of those stories where you’re going to want to stab one of the leads in the eyeball repeatedly with an ice-pick … until you don’t :) See! Add growth to all the things I mentioned above that make this story great! This was more than just a HEA romance journey and we had a front row seat to all of it. I know I sound vague AF but I’m not giving you plot points so … trust me? Lol

I just started my relationship with Serena’s words this year and so far she has made me a stupidly happy reader and I am looking forward to her continuing to make me stupid happy for a long time! Happy reading!

I had never read an MM romance before and I have to say if they are anything like The Intern... I shall be reading many many more! It was hot, steamy and funny but with real heart and a kicker of a climax

Devon and Micah are too hot to handle. The sexy start is just the beginning and what a beginning it is. *fans self* Sexy dark but safe places where you can let your imagination run wild, yes please.

On a more serious note, Serena Akeroyd deals with complex characters in some difficult situations with the utmost care and sensitivity.
I also love the family dynamics, the way these two men have very differnt stories. I love that they are two men who shouldn't really have anything to do with each other in a professional sense as they are two far apart in terms of starting out in the business. I love that regardless of status and finances these two gorgeous souls find sanctuary in each other.

I love the way Serena weaves a story that challenges the readers unconscious biases. I love that she shows you that there is a life after assault. but that you can only get through with support from family and friends.

It made me laugh - who knew a man who is so confident on the outside could be so awkward to those he truly cares about.

It made me cry - who knew that my heart could break and be put together with a few hundred words on a page.

I loved this book. I love Serena's Work and I am so pleased she hasn't let me down with such a different subject to what I'm used to!

For those who have read the Quintessence collection by Serena Akeroyd too, there is a cool little Easter egg in there that just made me laugh.

Such a great, hot and steamy book that I couldn't put down.

Also on a final note, I love the different coming out stories in here that made me cry. Love the end of the afterword from Serena too! #Proud #Pride

A lovely romance between two delicious people. This starts out salaciously hot and then melds into a beautiful love story. Just two gorgeous people that happen to be men finding their way in a relationship that's new to both. There's so much to love about this story. The stiff upper-lipped Brit, the pretty young student and the sweet love that blooms between the two. And of course the lusty sexiness that this author is so good at providing. I especially loved that Devlin and Micah's relationship developed without a lot of drama. The drama came from outside their relationship. Ugh, nasty people sucks! Micah's boss was the worst and when the worst happens it wasn't a surprise just disheartening that it's a real thing. The story provides a realism in the way gays are treated and the unjust behavior of some. Why can't love just be love? There are really sweet moments as Devlin and Micah get to know each other and some sizzling encounters between the two. One of the best MM romances I've read. As an American I got a kick out of Devlin's family responsibilities to provide a 'heir and spares' for his duchy and I liked his crazy parents. This pulled me in right from the start and was a page turner all the way to the terrific ending and epilogues. This author has fast become one of my favorites for heart pounding passion, sweet romance and emotional storylines. A must read! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.

The Intern by Serena Akeroyd is FIRE. Seriously, if you love office romances like I do, this one is for YOU! And I thoroughly recommend a side of ice cold water to help keep your body temperature regulated. Just saying, it might come in handy!

Devlin and Micah are SWOONWORTHY. For a first foray into MM, I sincerely hope it is not the last for Serena because I was and am and will continue to be HUNGRY for more!

Oh my GIDDY AUNT but these two have my heart twisted up in all sorts of knots! Devlin with the heavy weight he carries on his shoulders at work and in his personal life, and Micah who is charming and wise beyond his years even as he too has a history to contend with.

These two together? The CHEMISTRY should probably come with a warning label. And the level of cuteness and care? I am SHOOKETH and oh so deeply in love!

There is A LOT that happens in this story, and some difficult topics are dealt with in a wonderfully sensitive and caring way.

If you're looking for a story that packs an emotional punch, has delightful office vibes with a touch of age gap and a dash of forbidden, and a whole lot of SHMEKSHAY times, The Intern is for you!

P. S. Excuse me while I go find and stalk Serena everywhere I can on social media and also take a serious look into her catalogue. Me thinks I need to meet Kurt and Sawyer and the rest of their group officially!

Holy hotness! Serena wrote MM and I am here for this!! Micah and Devlin were a great break through into this genre.

I absolutely love how this story entertwines so much and has so much going on outside of the main characters. It doesn't however detract at all from the main story.

There are some triggers in this book so be warned. But Serena, as always, handles them with grace.

The age gap between Micah and Devlin does not really seem to matter at all, they just work so well. Micah is a grad student and Devlin an established businessman. Despite certain similarities in their backgrounds, their families couldn't be anymore different. They have different personalities that mesh well. They're both very caring about the other. Their relationship just works.

Honestly, I love this. Chapter 1 will suck you in and you'll wonder what in the world is this book going to be. And then you get the rest, and this is just epic. I don't want to give anything away so just read this. Don't hesitate. This is amazing.

To say this book is fast burn in an understatement. The first chapter is hot! Okay, now that I got that out the way, to the actual story and characters.

Devlin and Micah are amazing characters. Neither one fits the stereotypes or are typical characters. I love the growth that each character takes in their journey. I love the awkwardness between them at times, and I love that Micah is not intimidated by the innate power differential between himself and Devlin. In truth, Micah holds a lot more of the cards in the relationship, so to write.

I also like that the predatory character in this story is not what you normally expect. There were moments in this books where my husband came and checked on me because I was swearing profusely and calling a certain character a number of unsavory names.

I am a huge fan of the author, and the first book I read of hers was a MMF romance, I love that she writes such strong male and female characters. Love the Easter egg too!

When one of your favourite authors tackles a new genre you love, it's Christmas morning! Well ladies get ready for all the excitement and glee that comes with opening an early Christmas present. This story between Micah and Devlin is one of the ages. What I particularly liked was how love transforms our 2 main characters.

I went through every emotions reading this gem of a book. From excited, to sorrow, to anger and even pity. The journey these two men take together is one that will stay with me for a very long time.

As Serena has gotten us used to, she once again tackles a topic that is not easy, and even often in this case taboo. But it is done with the grace and kindness that embodies her writing. So if MM is your jam, don't pass on this one. It will rank up there with some of your favourites!

And Serena? Can we please have another MM book? Now that we've gotten a taste, we'll want MORE! <3

The Intern is my 1st Serena Akeroyd novel and I loved it. This novel included MM romance, age gap romance and office romance all rolled into one tale. This novel was sexy, steamy, emotional and intense and had me hooked from the very first page until the end. I loved Micah and Devlin. These two were such awesome characters and inspite of their age difference they were perfect together. Both flawed and with their own insecurities, they were likable and relatable and had you rooting for them throughout the novel.
Yes this story was sizzling hot but the author did an excellent job with character development and discussing some serious subject matters and prejudices in today's world. The Intern was an excellent page turner and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of MM romance.

The Intern is the first MM book by this author and she did really good with it! I love Micah and Devlin. And can we talk about the Cover? I normally don't get the movie in my head while listening to an audiobook but every time Devlin looks at Micah I pictured the cover model!
The book was great. I laughed and cried and felt awkward with both of them. I was so angry for Micah and I really hope we’ll get another book with them! The narrators are amazing. Jacob Morgan is one of my favorite narrators and Joe Arden's voice is to die for!

Sizzling M/M hotness! Devlin and Micah should have never known about each other's identities. After all, the purpose of the dark rooms at VICE was anonymity. But the lights flickered and their eyes met. Devlin didn't expect to see Micah at the office. He was equal parts fearful of being found out for his after dark proclivities and intrigued. Micah was an intern in the marketing department of Devlin's progressive publication company.

The age difference between the two should have been off-putting. Sixteen years is quite the age gap. But having scaled many figurative mountains to be comfortable in his own skin, Micah was far more mature and equal to Devlin in maturity. While Micah was out of the closet, Devlin's situation was more precarious. Micah was exactly what Devlin needed to grow into his own skin and be real to himself and his family.

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

5+ Stars

This story has everything I love! M/M, feelings of doubt and not being good enough, drama add in some crazy cold parents, plus so much love and patience it made for an absorbing read. The writing is superb and I was completely enthralled from beginning to end. The characters and emotions overwhelmed me and made me love them so much.

Micah and Devlin are instantly, breathtakingly attracted to each other from first sight. How exciting and complicated this is, is just compelling and made me stay up till dawn to finish reading. The plot is original and I really didn’t want it to end.

The mix of characters had me loving and hating a few but the subject had me thinking about it and scenarios going through my head as to how it could be fixed.

This made for absolutely fabulous reading and I can’t wait for everyone to read it.

"Devlin: If I wasn’t in the middle of a boring meeting, I’d call up for you.
Micah: What would you do with me IF I decided to obey?
Devlin: If? There’d be no ‘if’ about it. I’m pretty sure you’d be willing to appease me.
Micah: Depends. Tell me what you’d want.
Devlin: To know if you taste better after coconut water or a cronut."

This M/M romance started off smoking hot right out of the gate. Micah and Devlin's chemistry is instant, and off the charts. When the realize they work together, the story turns from steam filled sexcapades to a very tender, romantic love story, though there's plenty of fire all the way through. In true Serena fashion, this story had me laughing, tearing up, raging in anger, and sighing in sweetness as Micah and Devlin's story unfolds. The characters are so interesting and deep. Their struggles and insecurities make you want to wrap them up in a hug, but, fortunately, they heal each other, and it was a delight to read. A story of finding strength in each other, The Intern will defintely play in my mind again and again.
