Jules:

I’ve been in love with my brother’s best friend since I was twelve, and twenty years later, Erik Osouf is still so far out of my league, we aren’t even playing the same sport. Not that I play sports. That means talking to people, and my social anxiety makes that all but impossible.

It also makes my brother incredibly overprotective, and while I love that Stef always has my back, it’s why I still can’t tell Erik how I feel. It would wreck their friendship, and after everything Stef’s done for me, I won’t ever be the cause of that. I just wish my heart would get that memo.

Erik:

For years I thought of Jules Evans as the quiet, sweet kid who regularly crushed me at Mario Kart, and let fireflies loose in our camping tent. Then he accidentally admits he’s in love with me. He doesn’t remember saying anything, and I’d never embarrass him by mentioning it, but since then I can’t stop thinking about kissing him.

If it was anyone else, I’d probably have told them how I feel by now. But he’s my best friend’s younger brother. The same best friend who told me Jules is off-limits. That makes this all kinds of impossible. Unless I can convince them both I’m the right man for Jules.

Audio: 5 amazing stars Gary Furlong kills it again! *also audio on Scribd
Book: 3-3.5 stars

Something about this authors writing is just addictive, I can’t put it down.

With that said, there were times where I wanted more backstory on Jules, like where did his anxiety come from and I would have liked to know more about Jules’s past/family life besides Stef. Like we had Erik who was more well rounded and Jules who we knew had anxiety and that was just him. Idk I wanted to know more but oh well. I would have also loved to know more about Erik’s job haha the whole reason he moved back lol.

I just loved Erik so much haha I can see why Jules loves him haha

Also idk how I feel about Stef.. I think his book he can be redeemed but in this book he was a little annoying and too much… haha

So when the next audio comes out I’ll definitely pick it up, which I hope is soon!

Is this a very sweet, fluffy book? Yes, absolutely. But…

There isn’t much to the story or the characters other than that they are really in love. I appreciate the depiction of anxiety, but to be honest (and in the most non-offensive way possible) the portrayal in this story feels much more representative of someone on the spectrum than with social anxiety. Not that that’s bad, just that I kept having to provide that context to make Jules character… make sense to me, and make the way Erik treated and interact with him make more sense too.

I also feel there’s very little character development, or development in their relationship. They’ve been apart for 14/15 years, but have apparently loved each other without exception that entire time. The book starts with them in different states, but already in love. The conceit is Erik is moving back to be closer to Jules to ‘give it a go’… after 14 years away. I mean, that just feels a little bizarre to me. So there was no reconnection/rediscovery arc. They are just in love from page 1, and that’s how the story ends. There’s no trials or learning each other or ‘falling’ - which is generally where the tension in a story comes from, feeling their story and their connection grow - it makes me feel invested and like I’m cheering for them to end up together. Here… there isn’t that tension OR that growth in connection. So it feels a little… hollow.

Also the premise that a throw away comment Stef made at a party 15 years ago when he said ‘this isn’t happening’ about the MC’s is the whole reason for the ‘secret relationship’ arc. I feel like if that was where we were going to feel the tension in the story, that perhaps this could have been reinforced more to begin with, perhaps in present tense, instead of just that one comment from half-their-lives in the past ruling their decision making.

For context, these men are 33 and 37 (?) the idea that this is how they’re going about a relationship is what makes it feel like i wrote it as an angsty teen who just fought with my bestie… where a comment like the one Stef made may actually factor into your decision making. But as almost 40 year old men? Surely not.

Overall it was sweet and fluffy and I love that, but because of the above I felt like I couldn’t really connect to the story or the characters or their ‘struggle’. It all felt frivolous, pointless and a bit one-note - which lead to some frustration when all I was looking for a warm hug. I think the ingredients were all here for something utterly great, but they just didn’t quite come together to soothe my heart and soul as I was expecting.

Did I chose this book based off the cover? Absolutely. Story wasn’t bad, if all a little to sweet for me and Jules always seemed like on the verge of a breakdown which got old quickly. Definitely wanna check out other books by this author!

The good
+ How they were each other's safe space
+ Mutual pining
+ How honest they were with each other about their feelings
+ Erik judging per situation whether Jules needs him to step in, or feels good enough to respond himself in social situations
+ Jules' anxiety never being made into a thing by Erik. He never said he loves Jules despite his social anxiety, or even because of it. It's just there and that's it. No big deal
+ Jules explaining to Erik that he probably has anxiety, and how it's not his fault. Just casual, jugdment-free. They really were each other's safe space
+ Erik patiently explaining some anal sex basics to Jules. I love how open and matter-of-fact he was about it, and tried to not make it awkward for Jules
+ Erik's conversation with Van at the bar
+ I especially loved the resulting bathing scene, very sweet
+
+ How giddy they were all the time. They were a couple of saps in love and it was adorable

The neutral
o Who thought it was a good idea to put two people with anxiety in a relationship they have to keep hidden from their best friend / brother? Can you imagine them talking about it? It'd be like an endless feedback loop of feeding each other's anxiety until they both believe the world is going to end when Stef finds out. I can just imagine these dingdongs sitting on the couch, nodding at each other in agreement at every outrageous scenario they can come up with
o I wanted to meet their future dog

The bad
- I really didn't like Stef. He knew Jules has severe social anxiety, yet kept dragging him into social situations because that's what he likes. Why not do something that Jules could also enjoy? There were plenty of people Jules felt safe with, so if Stef really needed other people there, their friends could just join them
-

Quotes
x "I'm a safe space for you. I won't judge you or hold anything against you. Ever. Because you're that for me. You always have been. When I'm with you, I'm safe, and I can just be me."
x "You have the best smile, Jules. It makes everything better."

Jules called Erik a cinnamon roll Viking, but Jules is just as much of a cinnamon roll. They were very sweet together and I loved their relationship. Great communication, honest and deep feelings, absolute trust. I didn't like Stef, but he was only a small part of the story. I was wavering between four and five stars, but because the book is about the main couple and they deserve all the stars, I decided to go with five. Would definitely recommend.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

“Tell me you feel it.” His fingers tighten their grip. “Please.” His gaze is so intense I forget to breathe. “Tell me I’m not too late, elskling.”

The order I’ve been reading this series in is insane, even for me, lol. I think this one is my favorite so far. I’m always a little scared of books with pining, because they hurt so damn much. And even though this one hurt as well, it wasn’t as bad as I feared it would be. It got me in the feels a couple times, but my heart wasn’t ripped out of my chest. Win.

Jules is so incredibly sweet, and I wanted to give him a big hug. Thankfully, he has Erik to give him those now. It’s so nice when you really feel like two characters are meant to be together. I thought the anxiety representation was done well, and I’m extremely happy that it was therapy and hard work that helped Jules improve. Erik made him feel safe and was definitely able to help, but his dick didn’t ‘cure’ anything. Love to (not) see it!

It really was a wonderful book, and I’m glad I finally listened to it. Gary Furlong did an amazing job with it.

I Adore This Story!

This is the best one in the series so far. This story had my heart from page one. Jules and Erik both had their issues with outside forces but together they were amazing. The way they took care of each other before and after accepting their feelings was so sweet. I couldn't help but love this story.

Update: OMG! I thought that I adored reading this story but this audiobook version made it even more amazing. Gary Furlong was perfect for these characters. I highly recommend listening to this audiobook.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Solid romance dealing with sensitive isdues

3.5*

I was sure I'd already read this book but my Kindle said nope, so I did it again just in case!

It's a low steam romance that deals with serious issues in a sensitive and believable manner in my view and I felt Erik and Jules were a great match.

I've not given up four stars only because I felt the 14 year long gap when they were apart was too long, especially when they'd both carried a torch the whole time.

And also because it was a bit of an anticlimax when Stef gave his explanation for why he'd said what he did years previous.

There's lots of family dysfunction but at least it's treated with the acceptance that professional help would be an advantage in trying to process all the trauma.

Stef's up next so I'm interested in seeing how his relationship goes with Tadhg's older brother.

Social anxiety and anxiety are things I have lived experience with, thankfully not as bad as Jules, my heart went out to him as I watched him struggle, but I also thought he was a strong person and had achieved more than some in his situation may have. I loved that his brother and friends were so supportive of him, though I found his brother Stef a bit too much and wondered how Jules managed to cope with his outgoing nature and his at times over-the-top protectiveness.

Erik was a sweetheart and I loved how much he cared for and supported Jules, it never felt like too much, he allowed him to stand on his own two feet, but instinctively knew when Jules needed him to step in. If only more people suffering from anxiety disorders had such supportive people around them. Erik has his own issues, with his family and with his own anxiety caused by confrontation, and I loved that Jules was able to be there for him and give him a safe space and someone to lean on.

The relationship between these two has been a long time coming and I hoped with everything that they could get past all the barriers, both real and conceived that stood in their way now they finally have the chance to make things happen. I really did adore these two whenever they were together, there were sweet, funny and sexy moments alongside some serious conversations and open hearts. A lovely low-angst romance.

I listened to the audiobook the second time around and Gary Furlong did a great job narrating this book and bringing the characters to life.

Thanks so much to Beck Grey for providing a free digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars
I was looking forward to read this book, because Jules and Erik stole my heart as soon as they appeared in Embrace Me (book 2 in Love In The Pacific Northwest series).

Jules is adorable, sweet, smart, he’s also a loyal and fierce friend and I liked him so much (I have a soft spot for shy character). Jules has had social anxiety since he was a teenager, but we couldn’t be more wrong if we described him as a weak person: in fact, Jules is strong and resolute to pursue his career, even if his path is peppered with challenges.
Erik is also a sweet, kind man, he had to face loss and grief in his young age and his family situation made him choose to live far from his siblings for several years.
When Erik moves back to Seattle and reconnects with his friends and Jules, he cannot avoid his attraction for his best friend’s younger brother anymore. They always had feelings for each other, but they never talked about that and their problems were just to big at the time.

Jules and Erik are far from perfect: Jules has to face new problems at work and Erik family situation makes him feel anxious and helpless, but they have so much chemistry, there’s so much love between them that their friendship evolves into something strong and beautiful.
I love the fact that they keep supporting each other without falling in the hero complex (when one of the character take care completely of the other, creating the classic strong alpha/weak partner dynamics): Erik step up when Jules needs him, keeping him safe but without making him feel incapacitate or powerless; Jules intervenes for Erik, when he struggles to make his brother understand his feelings and suggests him therapy (I loved that! Sometimes authors make their characters deal with all sorts of problems by themselves, even when it’s clear they need a professional help).
The part when they explore their relationship on the physical side was at the same time hot and funny (the talk about douching!): the way Jules kept hiding his face was so adorable!

The HEA was just as beautiful!
I loved the whole series (I was glad that Quinn and Tadhg were in this book too) and I hope this book won’t be the last.

I'm sorry for potential grammar mistakes, I'm not a native english speaker.

This one was a struggle..

This is a book of struggled and anxiety.

Brothers best friend ✔
Age gap ✔
Hurt/comfort ✔
Second chance years later ✔✔

Both of the main characters Erik and Jules suffer from a form of anxiety, but Jules is almost crippled by it. I do like how the author really honed in on how much anxiety can rule your life, I didn't like that it's all the book was about.
Yes, the story was sweet but is it sad that my favorite part of the entire book was Pita the dog? Why didn't Pita get time to really shine! My least favorite character was Sef (Jules brother), yes they portrayed him as being overly protective of Jules and concerned but all I saw was selfish and controlling. Seriously, he constantly pushed Jules into situations to have anxiety attacks, and while there would only talk about himself.

Choose Me is a fantastic romance with a slow burn between Jules and his brothers best friend, Erik. Of course, his brother, Stef, warns Erik away because at the time his family was going through extremely hard times and Jules's anxiety attacks were quite bad and frequent. Erik then has a work opportunity and so moves away but now he's back and the connection and attraction they share is still there. If anything, it's stronger than ever.
Oh my heart. Jules is such an extraordinary man with how he fights through every day with his social anxiety and Erik is his perfect match in how he acknowledges and helps in any way that Jules needs. They are both the sweetest, wanting each other but not wanting to upset Stef. With Erik back in town, they see a lot more of each other and this time Erik is determined to see what can happen.
I really enjoyed the build up of their romance, how they got back into spending time together and then take a chance on each other. One moment for each man I thought was special is when they stand up for the other, Jules with family and Erik with work. Erik's family are a lot better but still have problems after losing both of their parents as teenagers, while Jules has an understanding boss at work but a new one is coming in who needs to brush up on his HR and listening to his staff. I also liked the way that Jules's anxiety has been written. Nothing has been shied away from, in the moment and the aftermath of what happens. It's heartbreaking for him but also amazing in how he has learned and adapted to cope with it in his adult life. Accepting therapy and medication as useful tools but also the love and support of those around him. It's definitely not the same for everyone and is hard to experience/read in the moment but he has a great strength that is recognised by those who know and love him.
I adored this romance. It's fairly low level angst, more worry about how Stef will take it than anything. I was a little surprised more wasn't made from that with all the build up but it also fits in with Stef's character, I think. Hopefully his story is coming soon.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
**Audio**
I think that this may be my favourite audiobook of the year so far. I loved reading this story and Gary just brings everything to another level, I didn't want to press pause. I felt right there with Jules whenever he was experiencing anxiety and with Eric as he balances his friendship with Stef and his growing need to be with and care for Jules.

This book is spectacular!! It took me on a roller coaster of emotions but the destination was so worth it. These two men are phenomenal characters. Jules has crippling social anxiety and is so strong to work through it daily. He's also so sweet and kind to those he does let into his inner circle. Erik is so strong and the way he helps Jules when he is struggling. He puts all his focus on Jules to help him breathe and find some calm. He's so sweet and patient with him and also fiercely protective. The two of them putting their feelings aside for so long because they don't want to hurt Steph. Erik not wanting to ruin his relationship with his best friend and also cause trouble between the brothers. Jules not wanting to cause strife with his brother, who he's so close with, and his brother's relationship with his best friend. Until neither one can deny their happiness anymore and decide to give a romantic relationship a go to see where things head. It's easy to root for them to find their hea because you realize early on that they are perfect for one another. The romantic gesture at the end just puts it over the top. Beck Grey demolished my heart. When they were hiking and Jules had his breakdown, all I could do was sit here and 😭. I've never related to a character more weather its someone from a tv show, a movie or another book. It's like you reached into my brain and heart and put my thoughts and feelings down on paper.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Choose Me is the third book in Beck Grey’s Love in the Pacific Northwest series. The books feature a group of friends who appear in each other’s books, and we know Jules as Quinn’s best friend from Embrace Me. You will miss some of the character connections and backstory if you start here, but I do think you could follow Jules and Erik’s relationship without too much trouble without reading the other books.

I love a “best friend’s brother” story and Grey does a nice job establishing the feelings between Jules and Erik. Even though they have seen each other only intermittently over the past 14 years, they have still been in each other’s orbits due to their connection to Stef. Grey really helped me to believe these guys have been pining for one another all these years and they have an easy move from friends to lovers.

My heart was all about Jules and Erik! Poor Jules has such a strong social anxiety I felt so bad for him. He is sweet, shy and so nervous and out of sorts. He has been in crushing love with Erik forever. Erik does love Jules too but does not feel like he can admit to it since Jules is his best friend Stef's little brother. My favorite part about this love story is that when Erik comes back, Jules is the one he needs to lean on. Jules in turn needs Erik's support. They leaned on each other to overcome their obstacles. They were so subtly familiar it felt so natural and right. They were equals in this tentative relationship and it gave me all the feels. Most of the angst and drama really comes from outside of their togetherness as they see through it all with each other. Wonderful realistic friendships, families and romance.

Erik is playing the long game when it comes to wanting and waiting for Jules. The younger brother of Erik’s best friend, Jules had always been the brightest and best part of his day. When Erik graduated from college, he finally learned that eighteen year old Jules harbored a crush on him, but he knew that Jules had more growing up to do and experiences to have. So, Erik moves away to live his life and fourteen years later, he finds himself back home for a business opportunity and he is home to stay. Fortunately, Jules is single and still interested. But his brother is still Erik’s best friend. It takes awhile

I really liked this book. I liked that the characters were realistic and had complex, rich personalities. I think the way the author deals with the characters’ anxieties was authentic and well written. The chemistry between the MC’s was explosive. I loved when they finally got out of their own ways and got together. This was a great book, and it was my first time reading this author. I will definitely being reading more.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Jules has been in love with his brother’s best friend since he was fourteen years old. And Erik has felt a pull toward Jules for almost as long. But Erik moved away after graduating from college and Jules has only seen him rarely since then. Now, Erik is back from Arizona to start on a new business venture. And he’s back in Jules’ orbit again.

Jules deals with crippling social anxiety and Erik has always been a safe place for Jules. As they begin to act on their intense attraction and deep love for each other, they must deal with Jules’ brother, who doesn’t approve of the relationship, Erik’s siblings, who heighten his own anxiety with their fighting, and Jules’ new boss, who is completely insensitive to Jules’ needs.

This book is written with such love in every word. From the sensitive and careful way that the author writes about social anxiety, to the way each character, from Jules and Erik, to Erik’s siblings, Jules brother Stef and their crew of friends, is crafted fully and completely, this book is an absolute gem. As someone who deals with anxiety every day, I so deeply appreciate how well it is handled in this story. Beck Gray has written a truly gorgeous story and I’m here for every word.

I listened to this story and can I just say that the narrator did such an amazing job.
This is a brother's best friend and first love story between Jules and Erik. Jules suffers from severe social anxiety and he has been in love with his brother Steph's best friend Erik for years. Erik had some family problems and doesn't cope well with confrontation so he moves away for 14 years. When Erik gets an opportunity to return home, he decides to take it as he's missing his family and he wants to own up to his feelings for Jules. Jules and Erik end up spending time and decide to keep it quiet due to Steph's feelings but in the end they didn't need to worry about it as Steph wanted them together. I thought they were a cute couple. I liked how supportive and protective Erik is of Jules but Jules also makes Erik see that he has some issues to work through. I really enjoyed this story and well done to the author for writing so well about a sensitive subject like anxiety.

I have read this series from the first book to this one, the third. Beck blows my expectations out of the water, EVERY TIME. These novels can be read as standalone but you definitely get more out of developing relationships if you follow along with the family and others that pop in and out.
A light-hearted, no-angst, high heat-when-you-get-to-it story that is perfect for curling up with a blanket and reading for comfort.
Jules has SEVERE social anxiety. I just want to put him in a bubble, get a whiteboard for communication, and remember all of his favorites.
Erik has family baggage, but who doesn’t? A gentle viking giant that will stand up for those he cares about…and then is unable to do it for himself.
Worried to let the people around them down if things go south, they keep things on the down low while working on their own personal issues together. Friendship almost caught kissing moments, and don’t forget the dry sassiness.

I received a digital ARC of this novel and this is my honest review.

Dnfed at about a third of the way in. I gave it a try as it’s on hoopla, but had a yellow flag when the character moved back after 14 years and everything was the same… that’s too long of a time for that imo. Then I had to dnf when one of them tells off the other’s boss at a happy hour. I get that the boss wasn’t respecting the character’s needs and disability, but I can’t imagine this and can’t imagine it ending well. Looking for good audio books…

Choose Me is the third book in the Love in the Pacific Northwest series. I’ve been anxiously waiting for Jules and Erik’s story since embrace Me. Jules suffers from extreme anxiety. He’s been in love with his older brother’s best friend since he was a teenager. Erik lost his mother just before he graduated from college. His older brother took it upon himself to be the father figure, which didn’t sit right with their other brother. He took off as soon as he could. Living his best life in Arizona. When he receives an offer he cannot refuse, he comes home. Fifteen years later, Jules and Erik finally get a chance to be together and they both decide they’re taking that chance despite what anyone else has to say about it. I loved their chemistry and interactions. The characters were complex and had depth. Overall, the story was outstanding! The story was well written with, pacing that flowed and kept me glued to the pages. Highly recommend!

What a story! I absolutely loved it!

Normally, I will read a book in a few hours, this book, I took my sweet time and actually savored the story. It had my emotions all over the place and I will admit to shedding a few tears (or more) during that dinner scene with Erik’s family. I was so proud of Jules. He was absolutely amazing!

Erik & Jules were just so wonderful for each other. Although Erik had his own issues, he was 100% there for Jules. And we saw that Jules was the same, even with his social anxiety limitations. Two really, really great guys. I was so happy that after years of pining for each other they got their HEA. And the epilogue was so welcomed! Very happy with this book!

I do hope there will be a story for Stef (Jules brother), that should be a riot for sure!

4.5 stars. This book had me intrigued from the very first page. I really enjoyed Jules and Erik’s story. Loved all the puns!!

Jules has severe anxiety. As someone who suffers from anxiety (not nearly as bad as Jules), I really enjoyed reading about Jules and how he handled his anxiety. The 5 senses exercise he does in the prologue is something I am familiar with. I loved how great his first boss Jack was with his anxiety and everything Jack did for Jules in order for him to work comfortably. Van on the other hand 🤬.

And Erik. The way he was with Jules was beautiful. He always seemed to know when Jules needed something and was always conscious about what he did so Jules would be safe and happy. Their connection and love was absolutely believable.

Stef is Jules brother and Erik’s best friend. I didn’t end up liking that character at all so it was a little tough to get through some sections. I understood why he did what he did at the beginning now but I was still frustrated with his actions and what it meant for Jules and Erik.

I have not read the other books in this series but did not feel like I missed anything. I would recommend this book.

ARC received from the author for an honest review.

Jules is the younger brother of Erik's best friend Stef. He's been in love with him since he was a kid. Erik has loved Jules almost as long. Between Stef's over protective nature, Jules anxiety disorder and Erik's family issues, they've never told each other how they feel; until Erik's college graduation party. Erik leaves Seattle soon after and is gone for fourteen years. Now he's back and wants a chance with Jules. Jules can't believe that Erik would want him but he's not complaining. Will these two finally get their lives straightened out and make things work or will they let obstacles get in the way?

This is a well written, low drama, romance. Jules and Erik have great chemistry as friends and it evolves into lovers with ease. They both have lots of things in common and they both are able to calm each other when the storms get too much. Neither one likes confrontation but they're willing to stand against others to protect each other. I really liked these two together. I liked seeing all the supporting characters from the first two books, as well as the new ones here. I highly recommend this series for some good stories and great romance.

This was a sweet, low angst story. The characters were likable and believable. I wish Erik had spent more one on one time with Stef.We didn't get to see why those two were really best friends at all. It would have been better with a little more focus on Erik and Jules' connection as opposed to the focus being on Jules' anxiety, but overall, it was a good, well written read.

Relationships are more than love…..it’s also understanding and acceptance

This series of books is fan-freakin-tastic and going onto book 3, you will not be disappointed!! This time around, the focus is on Jules (Quinn's roomante) and Erik, his childhood crush. Erik returns home after quite a few years away and there’s no doubt about their love and connection, it’s so plain to see. This story delves more into the characters themselves and how they learn to be true to themselves and actually let people in/help them. They both suffer from the past, and while it won’t go away, they have each other. Very well written story, full of emotions, love and laughter and acceptance.

What a nice soothing story

How perfect are Jules and Erik as a couple, they are up there with my favourites. It is an easy read, not much drama.

My favourite thing about this book and I so wish other authors did this, is Jules never changed, it was brilliant and he was so real. He was not this guy with anxiety and had a secret sex dungeon or half way through he could talk to anyone, or he went night clubbing by himself etc, no he stayed the loveable anxious person he was the whole way through and Erik loved every bit of him. Well done Beck for keeping it real.

Easily read as a standalone (which I did), but it might make you want to go back and read the previous books (which I also did). The storyline here is sweet, and the relationship between the two MCs is wonderfully written. Neither one is perfect; both have some anxiety issues that manifest in different ways. Eric's family is fractious, and doesn't help either character relax. His baby brother really needs a punch to the face IMO. An HEA ensues, but even that is the whipped cream on this cinnamon roll Viking sundae.

This was such a sweet story. I hated that Erik and Jules struggled to begin a relationship because of Stef's opinion from years ago and were afraid to hurt him but was so glad that they decided to take the plunge because they were perfect together. They supported each other so much and Erik was the perfect calming influence in Jules life.

I liked the story, but I didn’t like how much power they gave Stef over their relationship. Jules was 33 and Erik older than that. If they want to be together, it should be their choice not Stef’s. 🤷‍♀️ This was my first book by this author, but I will definitely check out the others in this series.

Another great read by Beck Grey. This one was full of all the adoring sweetness a romance needs. I loved Jules in the previous books because we get to see a character so like many of us with anxiety and it was just perfectly done! I absolutely loved this one too!
