Rate this book
Where there's a will. . .

When pretty hairdresser Delaney Shaw returned home to Truly, Idaho, for the reading of her stepfather's will, she planned on paying her respects and getting out of town. But it seems the will has some unexpected stipulations-like the one that says if Delaney wants her inheritance she needs to stay put and have nothing to do with sexy Nick Allegrezza. . .for an entire year!

There's no way

Ten years ago, Nick had swept Delaney off her feet and onto his Harley, and that's when she really let down her Hair! Back then, he was a love-'em-and-leave-'em man, and Delaney learned the hard way that she was just a fling. But Nick is as irresistible as ever. And when the ladies at Tuesday night Bingo see Nick and Delaney making after-hours whoopee through the window of a local beauty parlor, Delaney knows it's time to decide if Nick is truly, madly the man of her heart.

"Stay away from me, Nick." She held out a hand to hold him off.
He grabbed her arm and pulled her against his chest. "I can't," he said softly.

Nick:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Another perfect jerk/@sshole dude who still manages to be protective of the woman while being jerkish to her. It's an art I tell you, and Nick did it just right :D

The story

He’d been forbidden to her all her life, and she’d been drawn to him like an insect to a bug light. She’d been a good girl longing to be set free, and all he’d had to do was crook his finger at her and utter four words. Four provocative words from his bad-boy lips. “Come here, wild thing,” he’d said, and her soul had responded with a resounding yes.

Delaney returns to town for her stepfather's funeral, and sees the man who turned her life upside down a decade ago. Nick is the ignored and forgotten son of her stepfather, one who always hated her for taking his place and getting all the love he didn't have.
On the other hand, Delaney was always attracted to him, he was a forbidden fruit that she had to have, and one night, her dreams came true, only not like she imagined.
Now, the stepfather is dead, and he leaves a will in which he places both Nick and Delaney in an impossible position.

I gotta say, I expected and that would've been great, but that old dude was devious and the actual will was evil and brilliant :D Love it :D

The romance

“Delaney."
"What?" She stuck her key on the lock, then paused with her hand on the doorknob.
"I lied to you yesterday." She looked over her shoulder, but she couldn't see him.
"When?"
"When I said you could have been anyone. I would know you with my eyes closed." His deep voice carried across the darkness more intimate than a whisper when he added, "I would know you, Delaney." Then the squeak of hinges followed by the click of a dead bolt and Delaney knew he was gone.”

This is a love/hate relationship, one of my favs and it worked great here.

Nick has always envied Delaney for getting his father's attention and love, while he was being treated like sh*t, but still, there was that something special from the first time they met.
After she returns to town, he realises he can't stay away from her even though he should, which causes some conflicting acts (him being a jerk and protective at the same time).

Delaney is a hairdresser, stuck in a town she doesn't want to live in, and forced to endure seeing Nick all the time, the man who humiliated her years ago. She decided it's time to change things and makes a life for her there, at the same time trying to stay away from the man who drives her crazy.

Overall

The book started great and it got better and better with each new page.
I was in uber-happy land when I finished it, I can't explain to you how much I enjoyed reading it. Simply wonderful.
I loved all the fights, all the romantic scenes where they just can't stay away from each other, the humor here was AMAZING, so damn funny, Delaney was hilarious with her hair salon thing :D
Nick <3 He is one of my favorite heroes so far. <3

So if you enjoy the love/hate romance, jerkish heroes and great humor, grab this one, you won't regret it!

4-4 ½ stars – Contemporary Romance

Rachel Gibson has a knack for making me enjoy her books, despite that her heroes are often players and jerks who exhibit at least one major asshat moment with the heroine.

Nick is the boy who teases, taunts, and pulls the girl’s pigtails because he secretly likes her. But in this case, it was a snowball in the face that gave the heroine twin black eyes. And as an adult, he continues his mean streak where the heroine is concerned, but it’s all because he’s fiercely attracted to her and frustrated over what he can’t have.

Delaney and Nick zoom from enemies with a past engaging in a snarky battle of wills and insults and fighting their explosive attraction (while he’s fooling around and flirting with half the floozies in town) to having smokin’ hot sex. Then suddenly, things get too serious between them and Nick freaks out and has that aforementioned asshat moment. Eventually he realizes he acted like a jerk and what follows is some pretty sweet groveling.

I didn’t really feel the “romance” all that convincingly in this one, but the H/h have an amusing hate/love relationship, nonetheless. So Truly Madly Yours is another entertaining read from Ms. Gibson’s backlist. 4-4 ½ stars!

Nick’s sigh-worthy groveling:

And here’s Nick on his bike. Yummy!

Another re-read. And, I'll say it again, I don't change my rating, but this one for me is a solid 4.5 read. These stories aren't complicated but I just love them. They satisfy a little something in me. Very needed right now when RL is a crazy place.

Thank you Rachel Gibson. I love your stories. LOVE THEM!!

I just love Rachel Gibson. This story was a really good one. You have a real bastard who controlled everything around him. He dies and tries to control from the grave through his will. There is the bastard [literal] son who he never recognized, his step-daughter who he did, and his wife. The author weaves a nice star-crossed tale. The timing just never seems right for these two, until it finally is.

I loved the characters and the back-story. The only issue I had was the story dragged for me a bit in the second third of the book.

Overall, a nice story and one I'll read again. These are truly comfort reads for me.

Happy Reading.

I wasn't going to post a review but what the hell. Something about this bugged me and seeing how I viewed this a little different from general consensus I felt the need to post. Yes the hero Nick Allegreza is a jerk, a manwhore jerk. But the heroine for the majority of this was no better. I couldn't stand either of them to be honest. She kept rubbing me wrong through this whole thing. Privileged, oblivious and self-absorbed doesn't begin to describe Delaney Shaw. But that's more the author's thing, it's her staple. This is my 10th book by Rachel Gibson and there's a good reason why out of the 10 I've only liked 2. She loves her label dropping, fashion obsessed heroines just as much as her emotionally-stunted, macho, asshole heroes who think with their dicks first and their hearts last. And the jerk factor isn't really my issue. It's how she writes her heroines and how ILY's are literally forced out at the very end like it resolves anything. Gibson is not really good at balancing things out and letting her characters grow, show them actually falling in love, she tells you. The emotional depth & self-awareness is missing. You go from indifference, to lame juvenile bickering, to casual sex and rehashing shit from 10 years ago over and over again to suddenly realizing you love him? That’s not how enemies to lovers trope works. In fact that’s not how any trope should go. You have your leads be mean and stupid to each other and hung up on old grudges from adolescent pheromones and not really talking about anything new for 90% of the story but somehow want us to believe they love each other?

This was written in the 90's so obviously it's dated and doesn't age well in some areas and it's part of why I didn't want to post a review. Nick's father Henry Shaw was a racist misogynistic prick who treated him like a pariah and refused to acknowledge as his own because he was sired out of wedlock and he's not white. Henry instead chose to adopt and raise his new wife's child, Delaney. Because of this, both h & hr mothers are absolutely awful with their own prejudices & selfishness and there is zero resolution there at the end which makes you question what was the whole point of the feud and strife between the 2 families for over 3 decades? Both families just have to get over it now cause of HEA? #Awkward. Delaney not having the forethought or understanding for why Nick and his Basque family resented her and her mother for years since she was the literal "replacement" (white) child to Nick, the mixed bastard child of the town Mayor, is just...very bad optics. And dumb. I'm sorry but complaining about growing up in a mansion where everything was given to you simply because your parents were smothering and controlling just grates the nerves rather than come off sympathetic. I'm not excusing Nick's wilding out as a kid & mean cruel moments but Delaney not getting why he hated her growing up and not showing any empathy for his situation just left you feeling cold. You don't need to like the guy but understand where he's coming from at least. A grown woman should not still act this confused over what was going on, like come on. Gibson always writes her heroines so confused about things that are clear as day and who are so petty it's borderline childish. Nick and his family were the only non-white family in that small town. She would mess up her own life and kept blaming others for it, even as an adult. Not cute.

Delaney had this weird detachment to things and not being able to look past her own nose about anything so it's hard to really understand her or like her for that matter. RG's heroines, the "sassy" ones, are the most contradicting confusing characters I've ever had to sit through. She continuously mislabels them. Delaney is supposed to be this independent, free spirit, "wild thing" nice girl but really is a self-absorbed, judgmental, uptight, insecure woman with a personality of a broomstick and backbone of a worm. Which I really don't get. This isn't how you write a *complex* character. The only "wild" thing about this woman is her questionable taste in wardrobe (turtle neck sweaters and knee high boots to a beach party in July? JULY?!) And this is where I took issue but it seems to be easily dismissed by a majority of reviews cause Nick was a jerk to "poor Delaney". Poor Delaney? I mean....am I supposed to like someone who constantly mentally judges people including her own supposed best friend cause the poor dear has a bad haircut? Someone who snipes and threatens her arch nemesis from high school and letting the woman's husband come on to her & try to pick her up just to “stick it” to Helen?......GROW UP LADY. How am I supposed to like someone who acts like this? Any sympathy I felt dried up for this woman when she was letting a married man get handsy with her as they slow danced at a bar cause it made her "feel good" about herself. Just...seriously? Gross. As for Nick, he was so predictable. Deny, deny, deny your feelings, do something cruel last minute to push heroine away cause he can't pull up his big boy shorts and talk to her. And no woman should beg a man to be monogamous with her while he sleeps with her for a few months. That ish ain't romantic, it's embarrassing. And I'm sorry but how in the fuck is this confession supposed to stir anything up but slight creeps....
"Because I've thought about you naked and willing since you were about thirteen or fourteen." He took a deep breath and let it out slowly....."You had on a shiny swimming suit the color of green apples. It was a one piece and by no stretch of the imagination skimpy, but it had a zipper up the front that drove me crazy. I remember watching you talking with your friends and listening to music, and I couldn't take my eyes off that zipper. That was the first time I noticed your breasts. They were small and pointed and all I could think about was pulling down that zipper so I could see them, so I could look at the changes in your body. I got so hard, I hurt, and I had to lie on my stomach so no one would see I had a Ponderosa-sized woody. That night when I went home, I fantasized about crawling in your bedroom window...I pictured myself slipping between the sheets, pushing up your shirt, and pulling down your panties. You let me touch your little breasts all I wanted. You let me touch you between your legs, too. I fantasized about that for hours."

A guy confessing this to you is considered "flattering"? Ick. And for context the hero is 3 years older than the heroine but still. Jesus. This little walk down memory lane made my skin crawl. I never want to read the line "touch your little breasts" again. 😫 See, this is why I can't stand childhood/teenage love used as angst in adult stories. Nope.

Also the plot is ludicrous and so dumb. The whole stipulation of the will is if h & hr have sex then they don’t get the inheritance….um how will anyone know if they had sex or not? *crickets* They could easily oh I don’t know LIE. Henry’s will made it seem like his lawyer and the whole town were gonna know if they did. How? By watching them go at it? So stupid. Obviously it was a set up for someone walking in on them which was so predictable but still, it was very contrived.

Loved it. One of my favorites by this author. I read all the time, and Rachel Gibson is easily one of my all time favorites. If you like contemporary, funny but with depth stories, and of course sexual tension and some hot love scenes, this book (and the author) is a must read. I don't usually read books over and over (why would I? I have a TBR shelf with 100+ unread books!) but this book I have read three times, and I know I will read over and over again. Some times I just need my fix of a great Rachel Gibson.

Truly Madly Yours has something in it for everyone. It is more than a romance, and really involves an entire town in it's characterizations. It reads more like fiction in parts, but don't misunderstand...this is a "romance first" kind of book.

Delaney Shaw and Nick Allegrezza share a father. Nick's biological and Delaney's adoptive. Their dad was not a nice man...he spent his life denying his paternity of Nick and controlling Delaney. Nick has always been jealous of the attention his dad gave to Delaney, but he's also always had a "thing" for her as well. I didn't really care for Nick until close to the end of this book. He's promiscuous, rude, and down right cruel sometimes, but as the book reads on, the reader comes to see the vulnerability and hurt behind all his bravado.

Delaney's just trying to life her own life when a stipulation in her father's will forces her to live in Truly for one year. During this year the reader "experiences" life in Truly, Idaho and watches sparks fly between these two adversaries.

This is a believable romance between two memorable characters. I love a story where two people who have always secretly longed for each other get their happy ending and this is definitely "one of those".

While I liked Laney, Nick is a complete loss. Worse, he's a complete loss who gets things his way every freaking time. He spends the entire story slicing into Laney in thousands of tiny cuts and while she doesn't just take it, he never, ever, walks it back or apologizes or gives even a hint of reform. Well, there's a grand gesture at the end, of course, but it was weak and depended on Laney being the nice girl still. I really wanted her to push his face in the whole book and kept going only because Laney was fun and I enjoyed the battle of the hair dressers. Really, Laney is a hoot and the only thing that connected me to the story at all. Oh, and did all the parents have to suck? And I can't help feeling like Gibson wants me to like this small town even though it's full of awful people being jerks.

A note about Steamy: There are twoish explicit sex scenes (one is important and detailed enough to count, though it doesn't go "all the way"). That's the middle of my steam tolerance and yet another area where Nick has things way too much his own way.

Books like this are the ones which make me realize that sometimes ratings will never really tell me how I will feel about a book after reading it. I thought that this book, being a 3.92 AVG rating, would be a good and entertaining read, but it was so so so much more. I LOVED IT. I started and finished it the very same day because I just couldn't put it down. Maybe it was because I felt really related to both hero and heroine, or maybe it was because I just adored the plot. I really don't know, but what I do know is that this was definitely my fav book from this author so far. I enjoyed this book much more than what I did her Chinooks series.

Most of my friends here already read it so I wont talk about it. I just wanna tell the ones who didn't that this was a great read. Definitely recommended fr contemporary romance readers.

I tried, I really tried to like this book but it was full of eye-rolling cliches and was so painfully predictable, I knew what would happen after the first chapter. Ugh, I think I'll skip the rest of the series.

After a ten-year absence, Delaney Shaw has returned to her hometown for her stepfather's funeral. She wants to get in and out of town quickly and doesn't want to see Nick Allegreeza, the reason she left town in the first place. Her plans for a short stay are disrupted when she learns of the stipulations in the will. Delaney will inherit three million dollars if she stays in the small town of Truly, Idaho for a year. Nick is also named in the will. Mayor Shaw was his biological father, but never wanted anything to do with him until it was too late. Now he is leaving Nick a fortune in land with one stipulation. He has to keep his hands off of Delaney Shaw. Is the town big enough for the two of them?

Delaney is a hairdresser and decides to open her own shop while she is staying in Truly. She has an on-going feud with a woman she knows from high school who owns a rival shop. I found some of the scenes and dialogue hilarious. Nick and Delaney try to keep their distance, but can't seem to keep their hands off of each other. The whole town knows about the will and is talking about the two of them.

I read this book when it first came out and loved it. This time around I listened to the audiobook. Emma Bates is the narrator and does a fantastic job. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

Rachel Gibson's books are pretty much hit or miss with me. (There is usually more missing going on than hitting.) Since I have given up on this author and have stopped buying her books, I don't know what possessed me to re-read TRULY, MADLY, YOURS a second time around. Maybe it was because I am a sucker for reunion romances? Or maybe because I needed a good piece of fluff after a hard day's work? I don't know, but I have to admit I did enjoy this book more than I did the first time I read it.

Delaney's character was very real - faults, past mistakes, wacky wardrobe, thoughts and all. Her severe upbringing as the mayor's step-daughter in a home where appearance was everything left her inhibited. Delaney naturally rebels when she hits 18-years-old and leaves town after a brief encounter with local bad-boy, Nick. Please note that Nick is Delaney's step-father's biological (rejected) son. Are you staying with me so far?

Nick is to die for. *sigh* He is pure, male candy-coated perfection on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Total bad-boy attitude. 100% alpha male. A sexy womanizer to be reckoned with. Nick has issues - BIG issues - and we all know that those alpha males with big issues and no intentions of ever taking part in a real relationship are the ones who fall the hardest.

Ten years after Delaney's departure, her step-father dies. She returns home with plans to attend the funeral, console her mother and then get the heck out of town. But during the reading of her step-father's Will, Delaney discovers she has inherited over $3 million dollars. There are, of course, certain ludicrous stipulations to the Will that include her remaining in the small town of Truly for one full year and staying away from Nick. (Can I just say that only in romanceland these stipulations would fly? Legal issues that an author doesn't bother to research first always hit my geek-button!)

I won't spoil the book, but I am sure you can guess the HEA. There is plenty of sexual tension along with a sweet element of romance that will keep you interested. There are even a few good moments of humor (ie. look for the blue-hairs from the Bingo Hall who spy on Nick and Delaney through her beauty shop windows).

Rachel Gibson won the Golden Heart award from RITA for this one and was published for the first time shortly thereafter. I wish all of her books were this interesting and funny, but sadly they are not.

As much as I want to like Rachel Gibson's books, I really can't. Not for the lack of trying because Amazon knows I've tried so many times. Her way of writing is just confusing for me and most of the time, it doesn't hold my interest very much.

This is goodbye.This is final...

This book kept me awake till 3 am last night..It reminded me why I loved nice, funny, sweet romance books, I am still a romantic after all and I guess I'll always enjoy a good chicklit.

This is the story of Delaney who comes back to her hometown after leaving ten years ago following a not-so-nice experience involving the town's bad boy Nick. Now, let me tell you about these guys.

Nick is the illegitimate son of Delaney's stepfather, the unwanted child who's always been rejected by his real father and who lived with his mother and half-brother all his life. He grows up hating his father who never acknowledged him and watching him accept the seven year old girl who moves in along with his new wife from the sidelines.

Nick is your common bad boy. And Delaney is the good girl who always felt somewhat thankful to Henry for marrying her mother and giving them a better life. You see how they fit, right?

After a rather embarassing experience for Delaney, she leaves town ten years ago only to come back at present for the death of her stepfather and the reading of his will. Of course, she's not aware of the secret formula of a good romance book, and before she knows how it happened she has to stay in this town for one full year if she wants to claim her three million dollar inheritance. And of course the recipe is not yet completed without Nick's inheritance clause: if he wants his share of the inheritance, he has to not sleep with Delaney for one full year. Awesome so far, yeah?

To add insult to injury, we know Delaney hates her hometown and can't wait to leave as soon as possible but she also likes the sound of millions, she also likes a little bit of Nick, growing up both fascinated and intimidated by him. There's also our bad boy Nick, who gives Delaney a hard time all her life, resenting the fact that his own father never acknowledged him when Delaney had the life who was supposed to be his. Oh, and he's a little infatuated with Delaney. Doesn't this sound so dreamy?

This was, apart from being a sweet story of romance with a fair share of pleasurable love scenes, a funny book. I laughed quite a lot reading it, either it was because of something Nick said or something Delaney did. Entertained me a lot.

I hearted Nick. He was the laid back womanizer with an attitude of I-dont-give-a-fuck. It's always a pleasure to watch those guys fall for someone.

So, I enjoyed this book to the fullest and I recommend this to everyone who loves a light romance with a bit of humor.

Another great Gibson book that I would highly recommend. Truly Madly Yours wasn't as great as her See Jane Score, but it was far better than my last Gibson read, Sex, Lies, and Online Dating). Delaney was an engaging and unusual heroine - her sense of style would be interesting to see in person, lol - and Nick was one of those wonderful bad-boy heroes. Plus the chemistry between these two was intense; Gibson certainly knows how to write scenes that will have your skin tingling and make you reach for something to fan yourself with.

At times I thought the antagonism between them was a little too much, even though it makes complete sense due to their personal histories - and their complex shared one. Still, I felt like those little nuggets of accord and sweet/tender/funny/cute/etc. moments were a little too few and far between in the first half of the book, if not the first two-thirds. Nick often almost crossed the line into being a little too mean for my taste, but it was usually fixed with an apology/clarification on his part not too long after.

Though there was a little too much yo-yo-ing for me in Nick's behavior towards Delaney and I would have preferred him to be a bit more constant and consistent, this book was a great read and one I look forward to picking up again in the future.

Cover & Title - Cover 1/5, seriously it totally put me off reading this. Title 4/5.
Favorite line - "I have loved you my whole life, Delaney. I can't remember a day when I didn't love you. I loved you the day I practically knocked you out with a snowball. I loved you when I flattened the tires on your bike so I could walk you home. I loved you when I saw you hiding behind the sunglasses at the Value Rite, and I loved you when you loved that loser son of a bitch Tommy Markham. I never forgot the smell of your hair or the texture of your skin the night I laid you on the hood of my car at Angel Beach. So don't tell me I don't love you. Don't tell me--" His voice shook and he pointed a finger at her. "Just don't tell me that.”
Favorite Character - Nick

I think throughout almost the entire book i wanted to punch Nick so it is crazy he ended up being me favorite character. I hate players & cheaters but yet something made me love him as much as i hated him, you could tell Delaney felt the same way. You can tell i totally got into the book since i am acting like they are real people :) I loved the book, the story was ridiculous but funny & spunky. It was an easy read with loads of laughs along the way. I loved the writing, characters & the ending.

I would recommend this book & plan on reading more by this author.

After liking Tangled Up in You and Sex, Lies & Online Dating, I went and bought just about Gibson's entire backlist. Some I like and some I didn't finish.

Truly, Madly Yours is one of those I didn't just Really Liked but truly loved. It gripped me from the first page to the last, making long so much for Nick to get together with Delaney. I rarely resonate this much with the H & H but TMY is one of those few.

Nick is the quintessential bad-boy down from the top of his head down to the Harley between his legs. Yes, I'm talking about the motorbike, too.

What a wonderful ride Ms Gibson has given me. I'd say it's the best contemporary romance I've ever read.

Oh my god, I would've started reading Rachel Gibson's books sooner if I knew how amazing they are; it was flawless. A sexy, funny, entertaining and very touching story. *wipes the tears away*

I really couldn't it put down, it was extremely addicting. And I loved how everything happened so fast without giving any useless information on people or places. I'm totally in love with Rachel Gibson's writing style (And Nick Allegrezza ;] LOL)right now.

I wanna read another Rachel Gibson book ASAP!, any suggestions?

***I posted this review last year but I recently re-read this for the 8th time, in celebration if the new cover reveal. I've named this my all-time favorite book. I was curious to see if it was still true.***

I’ve mentioned this a couple of times on my blog. While I am a very undescisive person I can honestly say that without a doubt my all-time FAVORITE book is Truly Madly Yours by Rachel Gibson. My sister let me borrow this book back in 2007 when I was barely getting back into reading. It instantly became my favorite and sucked me back into the world of reading. Now, 5 years later, no matter how many great books I have read, this one is still my most favorite one. The last time I read this was last year but I have read it 7 seven times (now 8) so I think I have it memorized enough to finally write a review.
Nick and Delaney have known each other for years. They both grew up in the town of Truly, Idaho. Delaney was the mayor's perfect adopted daughter and Nick was the illegitimate child that he refused to acknowledge. Because of this, their relationship has always been...complicated. Growing up, Nick was always equal parts fascinated and repulsed by her. He was attracted to her because she was always the one girl he couldn't have, he hated her because his dad wanted Delaney as a daughter when he refused to have a relationship with Nick. At the same time, he was always a bit obsessed with her. Nick always loved finding new ways to torment Delaney one minute then be really nice and sweet to her the next. When one night of...almost passion leaves Delaney humiliated, she decides to move away from Truly for good.

10 years later, Delaney comes back to Truly for her fathers funeral. Her plan is to spend only a couple of days in Truly to help out her mother and get the hell out of there as soon as possible. Hopefully before she sees Nick again. Unfortunately, luck isn't on Delaney's side. When it is time for her fathers will to be read, she discovers that she is set to inherit $3 million dollars and Nick will inherit a lot of very valuable property for him to build condos on. The only stipulations are that Delaney must stay in Truly for a year. Oh yeah, and she can't sleep with Nick! If either of them break the rules, then they forfeit the inheritance. Delaney decides she can handle a year in Truly in exchange for $3 million dollars. Besides, she doesn't even like Nick...

Nick quickly returns to his old ways and keeps finding new ways to torment her, piss her off and turn her on. These two have one of the HOTTEST chemistry out there and their relationship is slow, complicated, infuriating and absolutely exhilarating! They have the kind of chemistry that makes your palms tingle and keeps your stomach in knots. It's awesome to see just how far Nick and Delaney are willing to go for money and for love. The pacing in this story is absolutely perfect and allows you to really learn about Nick and Delaney and their feelings. Most of this book is told from Delaney's POV, but there are a few parts that are told from Nick's POV which really lets you see that behind his cold and indifferent exterior, he is just a big ol' softie who is just begging to be loved.

Truly Madly Yours is contemporary romance at its absolute best! Has the perfect amount of humor and romance. Delaney was shy and a little bit of a pushover but something about Nick brings out her smart ass and wild side. And Nick! He is still one of my favorite male characters ever! You all know I love my fictional guys the best when they have that perfect mix of jerk, asshole but sweet and romantic guy and Nick is the perfect example of this. You guys know that my favorite thing about books is how they make me feel and holy moly does this book bring on the FEELS! If you have never read a Rachel Gibson book then this would be a perfect one to start off with. I have read ALL her books and a few of my other favorites are Tangled Up In You, It Must Be Love and Any Man of Mine. If you are ever in the mood for a feel good contemporary romance, Truly Madly Yours is the perfect answer. A sexy, funny and emotional story that you will want to read over and over again!

5 out of 5 stars! STILL my Favorite Book EVER! Gets even better each time I read it :)

Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes from Truly Madly Yours:
He'd been forbidden to her all her life, and she'd been drawn to him like an insect to a bug light.

"Because I slithered through bushes with you. Spied with you, flattened the tires on her bike with you, and I thought we did it because she got a nice new Schwinn. She got what you should have had. And because I thought you hated her. But you didn't. You flattened those tires because you wanted to walk her home."

"You've become a regular smart ass since you've been away."
"I've become my own person."
"I think I like it."
"Gee, I guess I can die happy."
"Kind of makes me wonder what else is different."

She wished she could blame everything on Nick. She wished she could hate him completely, but for some reason she couldn't hate Nick. He'd made her more angry than anyone in her life, but she'd never be able to really hate him. Her life would be so much easier if she could.

She started into his face, and she knew she'd somehow fallen madly in love with the boy who used to fascinate and torment her at the same time. They were both adults now, but nothing had changed. He'd just found new and better ways to torture her.

It was ironic as hell that she'd found the perfect place exactly where she'd left it.

I hated this book. This may make me sound judgmental, but the heroine is selfish, immature, and unintelligent. She pins all her troubles on other people when she clearly shared responsibility. As a woman in her late-20s she should know better than to drink with another woman's husband just to make her jealous and open a salon to compete with her childhood archenemy. She dropped out of college to stay with boyfriends who take advantage of her and girls that drink and do drugs. She drifted for 6 years doing nothing but trashing her life. Her parents love her, and every time they reach out to her, she accuses them of being selfish and pompous and restricting her freedom. Her mother is a gold digger, and her father does tend to be a dictator, but they love her and want the best for her, and she should respect that. The hero does not appeal to me in anyway. They are not a good match, and it is unrealistic and absurd. All in all, this book was one of the worst romance books I have ever read. It is uninspiring and annoying, and the plotline is extremely dull and instead of pity, it only serves to show people what a screwed up, spoiled girl the heroine is. Millions would die to be her, and she doesn't show gratitude anywhere in this book for her wonderful life. She does not show any hints of sadness when her stepfather died, instead she is outraged at the terms of his will. I hated this book, and I do not recommend it to anyone.

All readers have buttons and some books hit none of them, some books hit some of them, and this book hits all of mine. I can SEE it's flaws, I just don't care.

It takes place in a fake Idaho, but one I recognize a sweetened, fictionalized version of the real thing. I love "bad boy" heroes. I love reunion stories, especially where someone is returning to a town they left. I love stories with a goody-two-shoes heroine who feels stifled by what people expect and wants to be something else but can't figure out.

Understanding that this is a book I see through rose-colored glasses, there are other things I think they book does well. Nick is an ass of monumental proportions, but I think it's explained well and he's not stupid enough that he doesn't know he doing it--he just doesn't know how to stop. Delaney has to learn that who she was doesn't have to define who she is now, even if she is back in the small town she was from. That was all done really well.

It's nice when a favorite "one-of-the-first-romances-I-read" stands up to the test of time!

Starting a book with a racist old man talking about wetbacks is a bold way to start a book that never really addresses it.
I realize this was written in '99 but I remember it not being okay to be racist in 1999 so

I didn't care for pretty much any of the characters, and I'm beginning to think it's the author, not me. I haven't really cared for her books, so I'm done trying.

This was such a great second chance romance novel! I loved Delaney and I loved Nick too. Together? They were so swoony!
This won't be my last Rachel Gibson!

Review to come!

I read 3 books one after another by this author and this one was the third. I didn't like it as much as See Jane Score or Simply Irresistible. Yet, imo Rachel Gibson is still better than most of the new CR writers.

I will try Ms Gibson's other books now and then and see if I still like her products. She is worth to try.

3,5.

A sweet and fun book that surprisingly keeps itself current when you remember that it was written in the late 90s.
