End After End Vol. 1: At the Moment of Your Death

Rate this book
WILLOW meets SAVING PRIVATE RYAN Weaving fantasy, horror, and action adventure, END AFTER At the Moment of Your Death tells the genre-blending, soul-bending story about how one man’s life – and death – impacts all of existence, time after time … without end.

IT NEVER ENDS
Life is nothing if not a series of endings. School. Jobs. Friendships. Love. Walter Willem's death was fast and unexpected. His was an unremarkable life. So, how is it that his story continues as cannon fodder in an endless war waged against an insatiable darkness hellbent on consuming all of existence?

Walt Willem is dead. When he awakens in the End After End he must survive being dropped face-first into the midst of an endless war. Unsatisfied by the artistic pursuits of his former life, Walt believes he's been summoned to the End After End to collect a set of ancient relics and reignite the power of a long dormant warrior who will vanquish the all-consuming Ulc.

At last Walt believes, he will finally be fulfilled. Walt is going to learn to redefine what it is to be a hero. Being a hero doesn’t mean saving the world all at once. A hero can be forged in small steps, taking the tiniest measures – the smallest acts resonate throughout the universe, changing the course of lives. Over, and over, and over again…

Volume 1 collects issues #1-5

From acclaimed writers David DB Andry ( Resonant ) and Tim Daniel ( The Plot, Fissure, Walking The Survivor's Guide ) and in-demand artist Sunando C comes the story of one seemingly unremarkable man – whose afterlife explodes with the impact it sets in motion.

This is an interesting start to something, though I'd say that is all it is. I like the art well enough, the world seems intriguing (if only sketched out at this point), and there are hints of depth and growth potential in the characters. But, even at 136 pages, this really only feels like a first chapter.

END AFTER END is a strange and intriguing start to what I assume is a long story because Part 1 (or Volume 1) essentially lacks a clear finale. Both the story and the illustrations have a video game aesthetic. I had to use my imagination to fill in the gaps in the plot at points, especially with the good vs. evil battle elements, which may or may not be developed more in Part 2.

Overall, END AFTER END: PART 1 had some issues, but I liked it. ╌★★★★✰

What an interesting graphic novel read. Walt is the main character and also he is dead. He gets hit by a train and dies. He wakes up and is an endless and eternal war that he must fight in. I also love the flashbacks of Walt's life during the story. This is a really well written novel and also the illustrations are fantastic! I mean I could look at these pictures all day;) This is a great quick graphic novel read and well worth it!

👧🏻 review: this is another blast with interesting graphics, illustrations and colors. The story is ok because I felt a little cliffhanger with so many questions. Also the drawing distracted my attention. This one is for older YA readers because of some gory stuff but I love paranormal books so my mom allowed me to read it. Easy and fast graphic novel, and I can say the illustration and color got my attention.

I’m not a fan of the story jumping right into the middle of the war without any explanation. I did like the flashbacks into Walt’s life, we kinda get to see what he was like before death. I enjoyed the illustrations, I just wish there was a little more explanation with some things.
