Voodoo Blues: Blue Moon Investigations Sacramento

Curiosity. It’s going to get more than just the cat killed.

Sacramento has its share of spooky, crazy, and unexplained, just like everywhere else, but most other places don’t have a self-appointed paranormal investigator to really stir things up.

There are good reasons to fear the night. August Watson is about to kick them in the pants.

With an oversized sidekick, a school-skipping apprentice, and too many bad habits to count, August aims to drag the truth into the light. Kicking and screaming if necessary.

Those Blues Just Chase You

A new intern at August's office has him wanting to scream. She's 16 going on 30 and has something to say to everyone even if they don't want to hear it. I wanted to shut her up. She was driving me nuts as well as all the characters in the book. haha. August is chasing a killer who leaves voodoo dolls behind after the intended victim dies of an "accident" or is it. He actually has 3 cases ongoing and is lookig for Sasquatch who is rabid? You'll have to read it for yourself. And then there's Maya's boyfriend and Glacia who hires August to get rid of ghosts in her Nana's house and there's a lot going on. Entertaining, funny, scary -- this book has it all.

Plot riviting

The story begins with repulsive characters and in stinky locations. Tossing trash into the street, foregoing personal cleanliness, and the like happens in the first chapters. Writing is hackneyed with awkward phrases like "You'll do amazing" and "leveled onto the third floor" for an elevator ride. Sacramento is supposedly a place where wind storms occur everyday. Spelling errors where there are "fur" trees, who's instead of whose.
But as the plot unfolds the weird characters clean up and the story begins to become interesting. I do think that more humor would have made the intro to a good story better. It's a worthwhile read.

A not what I expected book

August Watson is a haunted man, and straight as a ruler, honest, tall, and handsome. He trained to be a police officer, but after a tragic incident he left the force and fell into a liquor bottle. But he has crawled out, and opened a business of paranormal investigations. He has some clients and some mysteries to solve with the help of a woman friend and her smart smart mouthed niece. I expected some paranormal, and it is not there, but the plot is good, the book is paced well, and the characters, while a little stock, perform well throughout the story. Good, okay, but not great.

The Boy Who Played With Voodoo Dolls???

I’m a big Steve Higgs fan but this collaboration novel (something new that Steve is doing) really didn’t take off for me. There was definitely a Steve Higgs flavour in places but it lacked something to really draw me in. Toward the end the action picked up and there was more character development so I’m willing to give another book from this collaboration a try. We’ll see how things develop.

I received an arc copy of the book.

A great start to this new spin-off series from Higgs and Gates. A spinoff from the Blue Moon series, we have August (Gussy according to mom), Fred, his friend and unpaid employee, and a whole host of wonderful, crazy characters that made this fun to read. Enough humor to make you laugh out loud and crazy incidences that require a paranormal sleuth to figure things out. August is a great protagonist, and he has an awesome supporting cast. I highly recommend this!

Voodoo Blues (1)

Wow! I absolutely love, love, love this adventure! I have read many of Steve Higgs books! They are very amusing and amazing at the same time! While Alex Gates, the first author of this incredible story, I have actually never read any of his writing! I completely feel in love at the first reading the books written by both authors! I'm excited that I have the chance to read these books!!

A welcome surprising mystery

I hadn't read the book summary so this book surprised me in a good way. All the characters are well written with quirks and personalities that really bring them to life. The mysteries are slightly predictable but characters make the tale and I can't wait to read about the next potentially paranormal cases.

Voodoo Blues: Blue moon Investigations Sacramento

What a terrific book! I enjoyed the story and learning about August the paranormal investigator. He was a kind man and was good at helping people facing their hallucinations and learning their truth. I loved the female characters who bring out the best in August, especially Alina. She is awesome!
Don't miss this great story.

Wonderful!

What a wonderful first book to introduce some new characters and set the foundation for this series. Much like our friend from England, our new hero is flawed, fights against his fears and generally seems to learn from his experience with his clients. Onward to the next book. Thanks to the authors I have something to look forward to again.

Good start to a new series. I liked that August, even though he was barely holding it together, was the most logical, interesting detective. Enjoyed the characters and it was exciting reading about how and when he solves his cases. Recommend reading.

Great start of a series

This book combines a complete back story of the main character, and the creation of credible (and memorable) secondary characters, whilst telling a story thar is intriguing and fascinating at the same time. I look forward to the next book in this series.

August Watson

I enjoyed this book, though it was a bit of a slow start. Lots of potential and some good characters. I liked the different cases and their resolutions. I may continue with series.
No cliffhanger. Told from multiple points of view, though mostly August. Stays PG-13.

I thought this was a sassy, humorous book. August Watson with the help of his friends, sets out to prove that the paranormal does not exist. I laughed at some of the antics.

I found this to be an enjoyable book, although it was a bit slow to start.
