~ Miles ~ Attending the wedding for my best friend's little brother was the last thing I wanted to do, but a chance encounter made me think that the situation might not be the happy occasion it seemed. Sam is in trouble and I may be the only one able to help him. I would never refuse him. Sam is the man I've been fantasizing about for the last few years after all. If I can keep him safe, I might be able to keep him. If I don't, I could lose him forever.
~ Sam ~ I'm in trouble and no one will listen to me, no one will help me, not until Miles arrives and takes control of the situation. Before I can blink, I find myself married and whisked away, but the woman I was set to marry is still after me and I don't know if I will ever get away. Miles swears he will protect me, but I'm not sure he truly understands how evil this woman is. There's no telling what she would do to get her own way, especially when she brings in my mother.
I don't know how to rate this book. When some scenes were cute, but it was too much telling. And like the previous book, the women characters were horrible human being. But I finished it anyway :) And going to read Jayce and Joe's story soon (Joe? Seriously Joe?) And Jake really have to strengthen his security system in his building. It's a crap.
I’m not sure if I’ve read any other books by this author, Or if I will again. Though this book was good in parts, as a whole it felt like it was all over the place for me. I don’t think d/s needed to be an aspect of the book and to me, it made it weird with random conversations being totally normal then all of a sudden Sam would answer with “sir” at the end of a sentence for no discernible reason. Super confusing especially when there was no d/s behaviour otherwise.
Also, super off putting when miles would call him baby boy, then other times, boy. “Come here boy”, something off about that in any romantic setting.
Now, the plot. Outline, great, execution not so great. All this talk of security and the bodyguard checking the apartment before they walked in, them not getting out of the car unless the bodyguard gives the all clear and yet they decided to go shopping knowing The crazy ex was right outside their office building? The bodyguard didn’t even check the garage so someone got shot. Don’t get me started with security at their home. The building security and their own security detail is so sh** that two people with guns are able to easily walk into a “secure” building, go to their condo floor and walk into their house which is being guarded by three bodyguards without anybody noticing, knock out all the guards all without making a noise and without the 7 people in the apartment being unaware?!?!?
It made me laugh sam’s very drastic personality changes.
The man went from caving in on himself, not able to look anyone in the eye and being afraid of his shadow to being brave and practically demanding sex the very first night of their marriage.
Ok, I loved the plot but the execution wasn't there for me. Feeling generous with 3 stars. If Sam needs a full time D/s relationship, gimmie that in the book. We got tiny, tiny glimpses of it but really it just seemed to be a good excuse to how he got into the situation with Darla in the first place. And holy crap, the "security" in this book was laughable. I'd have fired every single one of them. I mean, without giving stuff away people got to Miles and Sam multiple times! Details, people! Details! If you are gonna do a scene where the MC uses a condom, 1.) Make sure he gets rid of it before falling sleep 2.) Don't have the bottom have to clean himself the next morning because he didn't want to meet their guest with dried cum b/w his cheeks. 3.)Don't do the very next sex scene without a condom unless there is a conversation b/w the 2MC's about not using one. (This one may just be a me being too nit picky) Definitely wanted to enjoy this book more then I did.
Miles Cranston has always had feeling for Sam Navarro, his best friends younger brother, but no one knew, least of all Joe, his closest friend. Now they are all gathered at a hotel waiting for Sam to get dressed and walk down the isle with a woman called Darla Wilson.
When Miles comes face to face with Sam he knows something is wrong, very badly wrong. Finding out that Sam is being forced into this marriage by a conniving Darla, her family and by Helen Navarro, Sam’s horrific estranged mother, Miles comes up with a plan to put a stop to Sam terror, and anxiety.
No one knew what the outcome of this plan would be. Attempted kidnapping, attempted murder, stealing Government tracking devices, not to mention a rushed marriage between Miles and Sam to prevent Darla from getting what she really wanted from Sam.
Not over Miles dead body would she get her hands on Sam. Sam was his.
This is a series of several books each dealing with Marriage Contracts for expediency rather than emotional attachment on the part of both individuals. Book 2 has family angst, abusive mother, D/s relationship, attempted murder, and a fair amount of steamy goings-on.
It’s quite a short read, I’ve also read Book 1 and have a couple more on my TBR list. I’ll get to them later, not all in immediate succession. The MC’s of Book 1, Jai and Jake play a huge part in Book 2 as friends and colleagues of Miles.
This was book 2 in the "Marriage Mayhem" series. This was a really good book. Miles Cranston is attending the wedding of best friends little brother. When he sees the bride talking to the grooms mother he knows that its bad. Sam Navarro doesn't know how he ended up being engaged to a woman he's gay but he agreed because he doesn't want to make Darla mad. When Miles tells them that he saw his mother Sam freaks out. Miles knows he has to get Sam out of there he also learns that Sam is very submissive. When Miles looks at the prenuptial agreement that Sam signed he is shocked turns out Darla only wants him for the inheritance that he will get when he turns 25. Miles steps in and marries him while at the court house her brothers show up. When he opens his suitcase he discovers that it's not his but Miles finds out that she has a bag full of trackers in it. When Darla tracks him down she threatens him they also realize that she put a tracker in the ring she gave him. This was a really good read Sam was abused by his mother before she stole all his fathers money and ran off with another man. I liked both of these characters and they have wanted each other since they met. I loved reading this book. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
OMG! Miles is swoon worthy! I didn't realise this followed a previous story but it is fairly easy to figure a few things out and still enjoy this episode. But Miles!! He came in like a cool mafia type man, then a calming but firm Dom, then he's like a spy or something saving someone from a terrible fate, oh my heart!!! As much as I love reading mm romance stories it's nice to now and then get a story with more meat to the plot, and this one has meat! Kidnapping, crazy schemes, two nut job ladies (and I use the term ladies very loosely), bodyguards a plenty, *swoon*, espionage of a sort and dirty dirty dealings. Maybe here and there it was a teensy bit over the top but I loved it, it was a fun and exciting read. This is a new author to me and I've already looked through their other stories and marked a few as 'Want to Read'.
I have really enjoyed the first two books in this series so far. It is always my hope that the rest of the books are just as enjoyable as the first two.
Again, super silly premise but man, did I enjoy it. A few things were overstated.. like, I mean, mentioned with such frequency that I wondered if I was meant to be an idiot and not understand the first three times, but I can also see why the author might have decided to do that--especially if trying to appeal/make sense to someone unfamiliar with dom/sub dynamics.
this and all future re-reads: if I believed in feeling guilty about pleasure, this would be a guilty pleasure for sure. instead, I'm just going to say that I unashamedly adore this series and it brings me great joy.
This book was hard for me to finish. Not sure why but I didn’t realize it was kind of a dom/sub thing (which is fine, just not my cup of tea!) and then the whole book just came off as unbelievable to me. The amount of times that I read “the man” or “baby boy” was too much and made me cringe a little. Giving 2 stars because I did finish but probably only because it was kind of short! Some people might love this kind of thing it just wasn’t for me!
This was a makjang drama in literary form. Anything you have seen in a Korean or Indian soap opera you can find in this book. A lack of logic? Check. Over the top antagonists? Check. An MC that changes his character over the course of a few days? Check. But I guess I was in the mood for drama and that is why I justify giving it the rating I did.
I don't remember anything about this other than the fact that it was ridiculous and I had to force myself to finish this at the 20% mark. I'm sure some people will enjoy it but nope. I'm tapping out of this series.
Have you ever liked a book while still understanding that other people probably wouldn't enjoy it? I enjoyed this, but I know it was over the top controlling/angsty BDSM with really out there coincidental plot lines. So, reader beware if you aren't into that.
Better than the first, some naming errors and editing issues, but I managed to read it without too many problems. It was an easy read of a few hours. For those looking for something light, zero anguish, this book does it.
Here we had Miles, a successful lawyer, who works for one of the biggest technology companies in NY, who has been in love with the younger brother of one of his best friends for many years, but who doesn't do anything about it because he has such a of a line that doesn't cross, so friends don't catch each other's siblings. (Let me tell you, you see, these authors have some goddamned ideas to help me. I find that ridiculous and whenever I see this idiocy in books with this best friend brother trope, I roll my eyes so hard I get dizzy. Sometimes I'm tempted to abandon reading, in which case I didn't because apart from that, the rest was as expected.) And, Sam, a young man who was abused as a child by his monster mother, has developed emotional and anxiety problems, is a submissive and is being forced to marry a brat who thinks she can do anything. Crazy, but it's in the text. Trying so far to understand how Darla managed to enter the hospital room guarded by several security guards that are bigger than Dubai buildings and more trained than pedigreed dogs that were taught in dressage schools, alone and wearing stiletto heels. Mystery on earth.
I really liked Miles and Sam, they combined and complemented each other. This book had a more elaborate plot than the first. That in itself is already very good. A couple cents of suspense and action. Characters from the previous book, which makes it best to read these books in order, as it seems like the characters are always wandering between stories. As above, don't expect deep diving.
Which pissed me off. I hate when there are contradictions in the text, the character says he doesn't trust the other because he doesn't know him well, then on the next page he says he trusts with life and the next, he says he can't trust. Make up your mind. It seems the author writes the scene and forgets what he wrote and contradicts himself in the next scene. Notepad, markers, notebook and diaries for taking notes and observations send my regards.
Trying to decide if I'll read the next one. I'll flip the coin to decide.
Better than the first book and it is still a fast and entertaining read.
I love the hurt/comfort trope that is (so far) part of the Marriage Mayhem series. This time we have two men who marry each other to escape the evil fiancée. I mean, again, we have two absolutely despicable women. Darla was less of a caricature (compared to Jai's sister in the first book) but still, there was not that much of a depth to her. The mother was an evil monster and got what she deserved. So yep, the book was still OTT in the villain department.
The romance here is a little more solid and its development made sense. I think that the D/s undertones made it work (there is not that much BDSM or D/s or kink... though it was hinted they are supposed to have a D/s relationship fulltime. It was ofter really just in the background).
Why not 5*? Well, there were some inconsistencies - during the first sex scene, the condom just disappears and Sam is not cleaned before going to bed. So, remember to mention the condom (and not make it a bareback scene midway), and clean your boy Miles... You say how you want to take care of him but then you don't? smh. I mean, it is a detail but it still made me confused (especially the disappearing condom). Another thing that bothered me - the security issues. Jake's building was basically a fortress in the first book and now everyone just gets in? Not making sense.
And I am a bit mad we did not get any honeymoon T_T
Nevertheless, the book was action packed, with some spice (though it was sometimes really fast too), and lots of loveable characters.
These characters were honestly so unlikable. Sam reads like a toddler and Miles like an overbearing ogre. I get this couple is supposed to have D/s roles, but to really just relinquish your entire life to someone else? It was giving an abusive controlling relationship.
Two books into this series and I don’t think this author is for me with the writing style. It just feels like the author was trying to make everything sound so poetic with their descriptions, yet the overall writing style reads very juvenile. Like an early stages Wattpad story. And holy moly the number of times their names are mentioned, literally 3-4 times in a short paragraph. It was either “Sam Sam Sam, Miles Miles Miles” or “the man.” We can use basic he/him pronouns when referring to the characters! “There was a tremble in Sam's hand as it covered mine where I was holding on to Sam's hip. Sam's breath stuttered in his chest.” And it goes on like that the whole book. I got curious and searched their names and Miles appears 415 times while Sam appears 836 times. And yes, I get if those characters are in different words it will still pop up, but I scrolled the searches and it was still mostly the names. That’s nuts.
I even read reviews for future books and regardless of star ratings there’s mentions of the writing style still being lackluster with editing issues. Even with the slight overarching plot, I’m not gonna bother with the rest of the series. Series so far just wasn’t that enjoyable and honestly, how many crazy/arranged marriage stories can you have that don’t start to sound the same?
Lawyer Miles was attending his best friend's little brother Sam's wedding but after a chance encounter, he realises that it is not a happy occasion and that Sam is likely in trouble. After fantasizing about him fo years he may be the only person who can keep him safe and if it goes well he might be able to keep him forever. Sam did not want this wedding, he did not propose even, but no one will listen to him when he tries to protest. Then Miles takes control of the situation, he is married and whisked away but the woman he should have married is still after him. Then she brings in his mother and Sam is even more scared.
I enjoyed this story with the submissive Sam who has previously suffered abuse and finds it hard to assert himself. Thankfully Miles understands the situation and does everything he can to protect him. I loved the way that Miles knew exactly how to care for Sam and what to do to make him happy. Easy to read, feel and understand it was easy to empathise with Sam. This is an MM story with mature content and a BSDM-like D/s relationship.
Sam has to be the sweetest boy ever! After being abused by his mother when he was very young, he suffers crippling anxiety and only wants someone to be in charge. Miles is the best friend of Sam's older brother. He has also had a crush on Sam for many years. Like Jake, he seizes the opportunity to marry his fantasy boy in order to save him from more abuse. I adored the way Miles takes care of Sam and allows him to be himself. I enjoyed reading how Sam begins to shine as Miles takes care of him. This couple is now a favorite of mine. There is a mystery type story that is happening as the two are beginning their marriage. Just like Jai, Sam's mother and ex-fiance are beyond crazy. So get this second book in the series to keep up with the couples and the craziness happening in their lives.
These Marriage Mayhem books remind me of the Harlequin books I read in the 80's. A dashing, dominant male rescues a bride (in this case, a groom) from an unwanted wedding. It's a marriage of convenience. The bride (groom) falls for their white knight. Danger and some PG violence follows them. They get their HEA. They were my favorite type stories. Couldn't get enough. Nearly 40 years later, is it any surprise that light BDSM is my flavor of choice? Some of the drama had me suspending my disbelief, just like in book one. But what a ride. The marriage of convenience, age gap, light D/s tropes all pushed my buttons. In a very enjoyable way. Think I might have to buy this book after I return the KU edition!
3.5. I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic between Miles and Sam though it does require some suspended belief to get into the storyline. Some flashbacks to prior interactions between them before Darla would have been beneficial so that the bond didn’t feel so quick and forced. It was fun though seeing Jai and Jake again. I will say that I had so much difficulty getting passed the fact that Colombia (the country) was spelled incorrectly - as a Latinx person it cringed every time it was spelled Columbia.
fun and enjoyable read. though I do have one pet peeve about this book and its a spelling thing so I'm going to air out my pet peeve in a set of questions
1) Is Columbia a county? answer: no it is not, its a university
2) Is Columbia in South America answer: no it is not, its in NYC
3) Does Columbia have a drug cartel? answer: I doubt it though I have never been to their campus. I'm sure there's someone there selling some forms of drugs but I highly doubt its a can be considered a cartel.
there is no U in the county of Colombia, never has been and never will be.
ok, now that I got that out of my system.... This was a fun over the top series and I did enjoy it even with the misspelling.
Finished this book in about three hours. It helped that I could easily skip the sex scenes as I am not into the dom/sub scene.
By the way, this may be a spoiler but this book is heavy into the dominant/submissive idea.
The plot is a little convoluted and sit of hard to figure out what is really going on and the author never really explains why the security was so bad; just uses it as a convenient way to finalize solutions and problems.
All in all this sequel is definitely SUB(pun)PAR to the first. But super easy read.
5 stars… I liked the added dynamic of the D/s roles in this one, I think this was one of the better books in the series. The added layer of Miles having liked Sam in the past but feeling like he was off limits was good but I think it was lacking in the Sam thinking they didn’t get married for love conflict. I think internally this could have been really enjoyable on top of the classic over the top family and outside drama for these characters.
2/5 on spice. 2/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. Did he have to tell EVERYONE Sam was a sub? Weird vibes there.
If I had to read those words one more time when MC1 was referring to the MC2, the love of his life, I think I might have thrown mine kindle at the wall. I didn't dislike the MCs...but the book just missed the mark for me. The villains are so OTT they are pantomime-worthy - I almost expected the twirling of moustaches and evil cackling. I said in my review for the previous book that I would read the rest of the series, but nah, I'm done.
Slightly, disappointed ??? I was hoping for a lil more originality in the plot... But, there were an enormous amount of repetitive moments, actions, and even lines from the first book, in this second book... Unfortunately, Sam's and Miles's characters were a bit cheated in their ability to be authentic and organic in the development of their love story...
Yes, you have to suspend reality to truly enjoy some stories, but I like it when stories take me out of my element. I think Sam's trauma was handled well and showed that he's a multifaceted character overcoming childhood abuse. I liked seeing Miles and Sam's relationship develop and how they got their HEA.
This was an enjoyable book. Poor Sam has been run over and pushed down his whole life. Now Miles is offering him a way to escape. Nice twist on the runaway groom trope and I loved Mikes and Sam’s interactions. Great story.
