The House on Needless Street is a book that gives so much but it also takes something back from the reader, you get invested but it also gets your heart. Who is the actual victim here is the real question.

There are some strong Silence of the Lambs vibes that I liked and hated at the same time because they were hard to read, and I knew that once I finished it, each page would read differently with the eyes of the person who knows the whole story. I think going into this as blind as possible is t

How to write a review about a novel that summons so many emotions. And without giving away too many vital details. Catriona Ward has created a world in which four narratives mesmerize the reader from the first page to the final sentence. We have Ted who lives a mostly reclusive and sheltered life with his daughter, Lauren, and Olivia, a fierce and studious feline who has a penchant for Bible verses. We also have Dee, a young woman seeking answers and vengeance for the disappearance of her sister ...more

I'm torn on this one, a 4 or a 5 rating. Needless to say (haha) it was an incredible book, full of twists and turns that I thought I had figured out until, bam, another sharp turn in an unexpected direction. The story is incredibly done, both horrific and sensitive at the same time. And it's about the worst of subjects, child abuse and survivor pain and suffering.

I read that Catriona Ward has won the Derleth prize for her earlier works. I need to seek them out.

I had no real expectations from this novel and I was blown away. I loved this novel. I almost don’t want to say anything so I don’t ruin your experience. If you’re a fan of horror and twisty novels- this is your read.

"The Last House on Needless Street" by Catriona Ward is a book that, for me, was an incredibly frustrating and unsatisfying reading experience. My profound disappointment stemmed from a clear misalignment between the book's classification and the reader's expectations.

When one purchases a book from the horror section, authored by an established horror writer, there's a natural assumption that the content will align with the horror genre. The anticipation of a terrifying or suspenseful narrative

This book is a bit of a gut punch. I wouldn't classify this novel as horror as much as a psychological thriller/mystery. The level of depravity is uncomfortable but not enough to make you stop reading/listening. The writing was great for a multi-pov book. It actually adds to the story to have each pov's recount of events. Nothing about this book left me wanting. Simple passages like "...death deserves a witness." And "...hope is always the last thing to die" will stay with me forever...
