Since I have not read any of his other books, I cannot compare it with other authors like John Grisham and Victor Methos.
The plot is about a quarterback player Landon Reed, who is released from prison after serving a sentence for shaving points in a football game. Now I am not sure what that means but it sounds bad, as he had to go to prison. He comes out a reformed man and passes the bar exam to become a lawyer, aptly aided by another veteran lawyer, Harry Mcnaughten who employs him. He is now involved in a lawsuit where Elias King, another trial lawyer is charged with insider trading and murder charges. His wife gets involved with a shady ex-CIA operative Sean Phoenix (not an extramarital affair) professionally. Bodies start falling, the plot gets murkier and it is our protagonist who needs to win the case to save Elias King. The football narrative gets boring since I am not familiar with the game. But overall a good fast paced thriller which readers can enjoy.
Would I read another Randy Singer ? Probably yes, but not immediately. Given a choice I would still pick up a Methos....more

Initially I was a bit skeptical after reading the blurb about a mentally challenged boy wrongly accused of drug dealing and a lawyer who is forced to adopt him under strange circumstances, fighting to keep him out of jail. But as the story unfolds, it becomes a larger conspiracy involving the State and turns into a David v/s Goliath kind-of-a-fight, it becomes interesting and you don't want to put the book down.
I loved the character of Danni Rollins the almost drunk lawyer, who has a I-don't-give-a-damn attitude and Will, the rich private investigator who helps Danni in her investigations.
The author's note says that the story is drawn from the author's personal experience as a lawyer. For all ye legal thriller fans, one more author to watch out for. ...more

The plot is about our protagonist Darren Street who is charged with a murder he did not commit and ultimately lands up in prison for life, courtesy Ben Clancy, a scheming lawyer who is hell -bent on destroying Darren Street. Darren now needs to find the real murderer. How is he gonna do it from prison ? The plot unravels beautifully but the climax is predictable. The time spent by Darren inside the jail is very interesting to read. The courtroom drama is a bit of a downer as compared to Grisham's plots, but nevertheless the book is a page turner. I loved it....more

I picked up this e-book with great hopes of getting a good courtroom drama, what with the blurb mentioning about a Supreme Court judge being murdered and the protagonist being a lawyer behind bars (the author has introduced a black lawyer as a protagonist). However, my hopes were dashed as I progressed through the book. The plot is about how a lawyer unravels the mystery behind the killing of a Supreme Court judge and his escapades from the FBI and the judicial system. The motive and the plot was surprisingly good but there was a lot to be desired in the way the story has been narrated.
No more Grisham for me for quite some time now. I am almost done with him at least for the next few months unless I come across a really good one. Folks, by the way, you can recommend to me if you come across any of his books published after circa 2016, which are good reads....more

A law firm takes on a pharmaceutical giant over wrongful death of a child. The lawyer with a one-point goal of being rich and working for money, starts turning over a new leaf when he gets emotionally attached to the victim, a 12 year old boy, risking his career and law firm in the process.
The book grips you from the start and is a definite page turner with a simple but stunning climax. The author being a lawyer himself, brings his experience and expertise in the book which makes it interesting.
Have read similar plots in Grisham's earlier novels. Ever since Grisham has ventured into non-legal stories, I feel a void in this genre. Victor Methos fills the gap. Will check out other Methos books soon....more

What turns out to be twists and turns and ending up in a fantastic climax, this is a true legal thriller.
Although the premise and plot is a bit predictable as one progresses, it is still a joy to read such thrillers which keeps you hooked. Go for it !...more

The DA invites Mick to reopen a case of murder and rape of a juvenile in 1986. He is suitably aided by his ex-wife Maggie Mcpherson and of course, Bosch fills in as his investigator. Funnily Mickey is playing second fiddle here with his wife and Bosch playing the main characters. The plot moves along well and the courtroom scenes are really good. But it is nicely wrapped up in the end with a bit of an anti-climax. Enjoy these courtroom dramas....more

Finally I couldn't resist when I saw a bargain on this one and I bought it since it was almost 15 years since i watched the movie. I was not disappointed at all. The movie might have taken liberties with the plot subtly but it was not so obvious.
The plot is about our protagonist who is sexually harassed by his female boss and how he unravels the plot with the help of a female attorney. The subject of sexual harassment is equally relevant today. It might have been a novel thing 20 years back and to bring out a book on the subject where the harasser is a woman, is definitely commendable at that time. According to the author, it was based on a true incident.
The plot is wonderful and the climax is equally rivetting with its twists and turns. I couldn't put down the book. Real edge-of-the seat thriller. ...more

Mickey Haller is an interesting character. The way he trounces the DA's attorney, Ted Minton in the court is absolutely wonderful.
Louis Roulet, a rich estate agent is arrested and charged with sexual assault and battery. He hires Mick Haller to defend him. The courtroom drama is engaging and hooks you. But there is an interesting twist in the plot, which culminates in a superb climax.

Soon bodies start piling up. It initially promises to be legal thriller but midway it meanders away from the main plot and becomes a whodunit case. The story becomes convoluted with characters drifting in and out of the plot.
The author has written the book drawing her personal experiences as a public prosecutor (she is the former public prosecutor in the O J Simpson case). While not in the Grisham class, the book can be read if you have lots of time to kill.

The plot moves so slow that it takes time to get used to it and though the title is "The Jury", there is no jury in this book. Don't know what the author was thinking while naming the book. The entire plot is a bit hard fetched and there is a twist in the climax which is least expected. Was in a bind whether to give two stars or three. Since the book was not so bad as to stop reading, I give it three stars. Some people might like it....more
