my thoughts towards this series as a whole change with every next book i read. i started off being quite indifferent to it, then the second book kind of picked up and by the third, it definitely grew on me.
and then i read Restore Me. and it was then i started to reconsider.
Juliette and Warner’s romance is beginning to become very tiresome. both books since Ignite Me have been the exact same formula of something unbelievable terrible happening to Juliette and her being saved and her and Warner getting together and then some new major plot point is finally revealed and then things start to pick up by the last 20% of the book and then it ends and then i think welp, that was forgettable.
we hear little to nothing about the side characters, Adam has made himself sparse and Kenji seems to be there just to make a few unfunny jokes that he’s already made before, somewhat like the comic relief, but really, we don’t need a comic relief in books like these. his point of view lasted for about half the book before we kind of forget about him again until his convenient reappearance at the end again.
it feels like the main plot isn’t being taking seriously anymore—don’t get me wrong, the premise of the series is great and definitely would have me hooked if it were written a little differently—but now it’s like everything is just happening to make Warner and Juliette’s romance more tragic and damaged.
every single thing that has happened so far could have happened within the first three books—every twist, every sad new development and oh so shocking event.
but thankfully, i only have one to go. let’s hope the finale can redeem itself ...more

she was incredibly bratty throughout the entire book, and when something didn’t go her way she’d constantly take it out on someone else and get upset when they were angry with her. i also hated how she treated Cam as her own personal slave during their relationship, and it seemed like she really didn’t hold his feelings to a very high regard at all.
i think Belly would be a lot better off with Jeremiah, as he seems to really care about her, despite her incessant rudeness. Jeremiah and Cam definitely deserve better.
also i hated her extreme obsessing over Conrad. and then the KISS?? like girl you don’t just kiss someone when their life is going through turmoil. Conrad was clearly very upset, which i’m fairly sure is the way most people would react if given that kind of news, and Belly just kisses him? like that’s going to fix anything? it seemed very selfish to me.
i guess i have two more of these to get through h o o r a y...more
**spoiler alert** Of course I enjoyed this—I don’t think I’m not capable of not liking a Holly Jackson book—but there were a few things I had problems**spoiler alert** Of course I enjoyed this—I don’t think I’m not capable of not liking a Holly Jackson book—but there were a few things I had problems with:
1. I do not believe that Pip would’ve gotten who the DT Killer is wrong. I thought it was quite obvious right from when she tried to speak to him about the DT Killer case at the beginning.
2. I also don’t believe that the old, loveable, confident, family loving teen detective Pippa Fitz-Amobi would have done what she did to the DT Killer. Her actions are somewhat justified but I feel like she would have found another way to bring them to justice. Come on Pip, you’re smarter than that….
3. Also how did her family not know what was going on for the entire extent of the book. I feel like they would have suspected there was something odd going on with Pip but ok. Sure.
4. That ending. BROKE my poor HEART JACKSON WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME!!! ...more

It was interesting; a little taste of Australian fiction. I was confused at times, some things I think I was taking too literally and others I was thinking too deeply about. Also a little confused about how the magic system works, the whole 'being a ghost' thing (was it a metaphor???).
