Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale! What more can I ask for! The artwork and the style is freaking awesome!!!!! I like how Matt, the backstory about his father ((view spoiler)[although it's a bit strange that in this story, by the time of his father's death, Matt is already a young adult (hide spoiler)]), Matt's friendship with Foggy and later Karen is revealed to us!!!
The story itself is great although the ending is a little bit weak, but the film noir arua is very brilliant (love all the old-schooled fashion)! I like these early stories about Daredevil and Co. so much!!! The artwork is awesome! Who would have guessed a dude in his skintight yellow outfit can look kinda sexy too!!! Though the Red Daredevil is even better!!!
Reading this makes me miss the Netflix Daredevil TV series so much!!! T_T...more

The story about William Shakespeare, his encounter with Dream and the entire Court of Faeries!!!! I love this story!!!!

It's a re-read and as the build-up for massive battle to come in the next volume, The Five Star Stories vol. 2 does its job nicely although the story and the character settings bring nothing new to the table. so 3.8 stars.

Premise: After the battles with the Court of Owls in both Batman: The Court of Owls and Batman: Night of the Owls, Batman encounters a new mystery: an art professor was found burned to death from the inside, one of his female students had also gone missing. Was the student's research on Gotham's past scandal from a long forgotten era attracting the Court of Owls' attention and the Court assassins, the Talons?
I think this novel is very well written, so I will keep my eyes on more books from this author! The pacing is nice, the action scenes are good and the two timelines of the past and present of the Gotham City are handled skillfully. Plus I also like how the Court's motives and decisions made by different characters also have good explanation.
I like how the author wrote the characters as well, though the Court's members are a bit flat so far. XD

The artwork is in fact very lovely for most part, especially this Dani person's artwork in Sunshine Getaway, it's very creative, as to the stories, the latter part isn't as great as the beginning part, I supposed.
As to the stories themselves, I enjoy the ones that I actually read with care, these stories are humorous with a few fresh ideas here and there e.g. Harley Quinn and Catwoman all dressed up pretty and become fashion icons (or do they really?), Harley as a working girl, having business meetings with the Legion of Doom and the henchmen actually has an workers' union? Great! I like the story with Harley battling her way through the Hip Hop street battle version of the Riddler, Huntress, Bane, Two Face and last but not least, Scarface and Joker! You know how much I love when Scarface shows up! Plus the Goth.I.Am... or should I say, the Hip Hop version of Bruce Wayne/Batman is great too. LOL
But by the end of this volume, I started skimming partly because too many words and my eye sight really isn't what it once used to be....more

It doesn't look very believable to me.
I don't think I had read a Catwoman's....in here she is Catgirl's story before, bad childhood, a girl trying to survive on the street, friendship here and there. The whole thing feels very YA and there aren't much hooks to make the story truly inspiring, to a point it feels like to it's a story that could be someone else's other than Selina Kyle's. So, 3 stars only....more

The artwork is as badass as always!
The war between Batman and Superman now takes another turn and now magic and supernatural beings are coming to Earth to play. The plot is nice, I especially like Dr. Fate and Co. Although I can't say the same about Constantine.

Her father sent her to a facility for disabled youths for treatment and Babs was very unhappy about it. Was there something more about this facility than what met the eyes?
Dad once told me that even a hopeless situation doesn't always stop him. Not because he believes there'll be a miracle, but because giving up feels too final.
I think it's an okay-ish re imagining of Barbara Gordon's pre-Oracle coming of age story/YA story with a bit of conspiracy/mystery thrown in. The artwork is lovely, the characters are reasonable, the mystery isn't anything too difficult but it isn't dumb neither. Although I'm dumbfounded by the fact that Babs didn't guard the secret that she is a hacker with more care. I don't think hacking is something you can causally reveal to your new friends. I watched the animation version of this story first and I admit the animation version is an improvement over an already impressive story.
The comic version of the story isn’t narrated in the exact same way like the anime: Barry Allen/The Flash woke up to find himself losing his power the world isn’t the same like he once known, his mother (who was murdered when he was a child) turned out to be still alive, Justice League is nonexist, no one has ever heard of Superman, Batman is killing criminals in Gotham and more importantly, Aquaman and Wonder Woman were at war, destroying half of Europe and were about to destroy the rest of the world.
The artwork is okay-ish, not my favorite type but it’s passable, the story is pretty impressive, the most interesting part is how Cyborg tried to gather up enough super-humans (e.g. Captain Thunder, Enchantress, Element Woman, the Outsider etc) to try to stop Aquman and Wonder Woman when JL is nonsexist and Batman refuses to help.
The best part of the story is of course, (view spoiler)[Thomas Wayne (hide spoiler)] as Batman!!!! The Flash is doing great as well (love how he got his power back although the scene in the anime is even better!) but on the other hand, Professor Zoom (the villain) is like, a bit underwhelming?
It’s a fast read, will recommend it! I also wants to read the story with the Flashpoint!Joker in it, I know this one has to be somewhere out there!
PS: Pirate!Slade and Pirate!Clayface are hot, super hot! Too bad they barely show up in the story......more
"Sunny days, good days for lives to grow, good days for shedding blood."
The First Emperor focuses on the life and deeds of Qin Shi Huang, the first ruler to unify the then-China (or more particularly, the land around the Yellow River known as the Middle Land) called himself First Emperor in the history of China.
PS: The word 'emperor' in Chinese means 'king/sovereign' and 'emperor' at the same time. What a way to announce to everyone that you are the top dog. Lol
Qin Shi Huang (formerly known as Zheng, King of Qin before he conquered all of the six Warring States) is described as quite an anti-hero, and I'm okay with how he is described. Although I can't help noticing the author Chen Uen overdid it a bit by justifying Qin Shi Huang's behaviors with his bad childhood and the humiliations of the time he spent being a political hostage alongside his father. Plus, did I mention that people had been gossiping about him not being his royal father's blood son all the damn times? LOL
Still, you won't see any events from Qin Shi Huang's childhood because these stories are in the author's other book: 東周英雄傳 vol. 1-3.
But the narration isn't exactly biographic, instead two other historical figures also share the spotlight with the Emperor himself: master scholar Han Feizi and general Li Mu of the State of Zhao.
Although I am not buying the author's description of Han Feizi as an innocent young noble (I found this hard to believe, given the man's writing and his philosophy), but aside from this I'm good with the stories so far.
Han Feizi's power struggle (but is that really a power struggle?) with his former schoolmate Li Si is interesting enough, though.
On the other hand, Li Mu the general was described as a free spirited war hero, who would better spent his time in peace instead of on the battle filed, but as usual, betrayal, the jealousy of his King and court intrigues killed him before his enemies could get him.
Although it is debatable when it comes to how accurate the author's takes on these historical figures really are, but it's still an enjoyable read.
