Ok, so a few things! This book is TOTALLY WORTHY of the hype it's getting! On the other hand, I ALMOST psyched myself out of finishing this book. Why? Well, I made the big big mistake of looking up the release date for Book #3. After I saw the words January and the numbers 2025 I just knew the ending of this one was going to hurt and linger. I'm so sorry to have been right. Granted it could be WAY worse. I could have picked up this book as a regular audiobook over a year ago and have been obligated to wait for the next book for OVER A YEAR. Yeah, I don't miss consistently reading traditionally published books. It gets even worse when I think about how Audible is probably going to have an exclusivity period and that the Graphic Audio version of Book #3 will take that much longer to be available. _______________________ I'd like to take a moment and talk directly to the author!
Rebecca Yarros, Mrs. Yarros, Becca? I hope you're well. The emotional damage you've caused me with this book was incredibly hurtful and gut wrenching. Hope you have a way to fix what you caused or I will RIOT.
Sincerely, A Very Big Fan _______________________ Now a note directed at Graphic Audio.
Dear Producers at Graphic Audio,
You had NO BUSINESS making the ending of this book as heart wrentching as you did. The voice acting and music was impeccable. I felt so many emotions. Some may say too many. The emotional damage is very real. I didn't know you were in the business of making people cry. You did a great job! I have no notes! _______________________
Now to my review:
Look I've been reading ever since I can remember. I can count 2 whole books that have actually made me SOB while reading ((view spoiler)[Ethan's death in Chicagoland Vampires (IDK what book number all I know is that I rage quit the series after that) and The Fault in Our Stars (hide spoiler)]). This book makes 3. I don't know what witchcraft the author imbued in this story to make me FEEL this damned much but she did and here we are. Let me emphasize to you the EMOTIONAL DAMAGE this has caused me.
I adore Xaden. I love how he's respectful, protective, and adoring of Violet. I love how even when things get tough he makes it a point to listen to her and adjust. I HATE what the author did to him at the end of this book. If she doesn't have a way to fix this I will make it my life's mission to let everyone know how heartless she is.
Violet keeps becoming more and more of a badass as the books progress. However, she did start to become annoyingly impulsive throughout this book and that gave me palpitations. I didn't particularly enjoy it. I hate that she had to lose the people she lost in this book. I'm hoping Xaden isn't one of them in the future considering the circumstances. Finger's crossed there's a fix. There has to be, right? RIGHT?!
I love how the secondary characters really pop in this second half of Book 2. I really enjoyed the gang! I hope they are just as active and interesting in the next one.
P.S. I finally have context for how the song Throne By Beth Crowley fits into this story. I must admit I thought the subject matter would have been a bigger part of the story. I liked how it wasn't. I liked that Xaden was upfront about everything when asked. I liked how he supported her through it. Overall 10/10....more

Tiern is still as badass and sassy as ever. Violet still has an admirable backbone to her. She's also getting just as badass as everyone else. She's great! Xaden is really getting up there on my Unofficial Book Boyfriend Ranking™ (UBBR™ for short). He's probably Top 3 at this point. I just have such a soft spot for men who unapologetically love, defend and respect their women. He will wreck his life and the world (literally) if it means she's safe and by his side. (view spoiler)[ I'm a cynical hopeless romantic at heart but the way Xaden confessed his love for Violent brought tears to my eyes. It's, like, I don't believe in love but at that moment the author really managed to convince me it exists even for just a few short minutes. (hide spoiler)]
I love how Violet's friends have now been brought into the fold somewhat. She's also managed to probably upend a good chunk of the Empyrean training forces at the academy with how she gave everyone a chance to see the truth. Her former childhood BFF (Dill, Dane, Don I hate him I still couldn't care less about his name) really grinded my gears for a good portion of this book. He still hasn't been redeemed ((view spoiler)[ CONSIDERING IT'S HIS FAULT THEY GOT SENT TO GET AMBUSHED AND POOR AMAZING WONDERFUL LIAM WAS KILLED. LIAM DESERVED BETTER. DILL SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE TO DIE (hide spoiler)]), but I guess he's on his way. If anyone could die in this series it would be him. My conscience wouldn't even blind twice.
Overall, this series has been FANTASTIC so far! I'm VERY excited for future books. I'm also not looking forward to the wait between releases. I'm also probably going to wait even more because I intend to read this entire series as Graphic Audio editions. We'll see if I get desperate enough to pick up the regular audiobook when the time comes.
P.S. I'd like to personally thank Graphic Audio for not cutting off Part 1 of this book at a major event/twist. My mental health really appreciates the consideration (considering where the cut-off for Book #1 Part 1 ended up being). That was the reason why I made sure to only pick this series back up until the full Book #2 was out. My heart can only take so much ♡...more

This was amazing! The characters had dimension and actual stakes. People almost died. The world-building was fascinating. This was a wonderful read!
The only thing that ruined it was the dry hacking cough I'm sporting thanks to getting the common cold. Coughing and audiobooks don't go together. Looking forward to picking up the next book when this cough leaves me alone.
P.S. The narrators were fantastic! The male narrator even got me to start to *gasp* like his narration. The world may be ending because if you've followed me long enough you know I usually dislike any and all male narrators. There have been exceptions and this guy is one of them ♡...more

It started off strange when I had the biggest bout of deja vu I've ever had with a book in my life. I swear that I read the first half of this book word for word before in another completely different book. It was weird. The guys were indistinguishable from each other in my head. It was off-putting and dull. By the end, I really couldn't care less. I'm glad this is over. I will not be getting into the next book in this series. The last hour or so was hell. Everyone was bland and unmemorable except the soon-to-be ex-husband. He was just plain infuriating. The heroine did nothing to stop him. It was annoying to read about. I could barely tell the guys apart. They went about talking to her about their peculiarities in the worst way possible. She was unreasonably butt hurt about it too. What did she expect? On the first meeting with Aleric for him to come out with it and tell her while not knowing her/trusting her. He would have come off as having a few screws loose and being even scarier. Come on. *facepalm*

I can enjoy a slow-paced book but I need some bread crumbs to string me along. This one was so slow-paced that the whole book takes place in the span of 3 days. So rationally that isn't even enough time for the characters to find time to have a conversation about what's going on and inform the heroine about it. The repetitive inner monologue was also rough. I didn't need that much information to always be reached from different points of view. Just one was fine. I can fill in the rest, I promise!
On a positive note, I liked the guys! I wish with all the repeating the author did in the inner monologues that she would comment on their appearance because I had a hard time differentiating one from the other after they were first introduced but maybe that's just me? Overall, I liked that they treated her with respect from the very beginning and that treatment continued and only got more and more possessive as the book progressed (even though only 3 days pasted)....more

I don't know what happened but this third part in this book just didn't hold my attention. It took me over 4 days to get through the last 2 or so hours. I don't think I was in a funk because I finished books in that time.
Overall, the story was interesting but I think the impression TikTok gave me of this series is starting to rear its ugly head. Everyone says how spicey and smutty this particular series is and how people who have never picked up *gasp* a romance novel are both horrified and in love with it because of the smut. Maybe it's because I've read (what seems to be) much better and "spicier" books that this one just isn't hitting like it has for so many people? Maybe it's that Graphic Audio has edited out most of it? I will never know because I will not pick up the audible unabridged version of this book/audiobook. I started this series thinking that this would probably be one of the best series I'd read this year and it's not looking too good now ...more

OK, I've come to a few conclusions while reading this book and seeing some ACOTAR conversations online. Apparently, people like to say that the first book in this series is the "price" you need to pay for the rest of the series being so good. Um...excuse me? The first book wasn't as bad as everyone keeps saying it is. Granted I went into everything blind so I wasn't anticipating Rhys and his storyline. So maybe I did myself a favor is what I'm coming to realize. Also, WTF Tamlin! I understand now why the fandom doesn't claim him. He's awful. He's an immortal that's however-many years old who still acts like a child. Heck, I would reckon that that would be an insult to children everywhere. If I already didn't like him now I absolutely HATE him.
This second half of Book #2 had me on my toes! I ADORE Rhys. I love how he empowers and helps Feyre become someone who can protect herself and her family if needed. I love how he doesn't hold her back even when he would prefer to. I love how much he respects and trusts her as a full person with specific wants and needs. They're so cute together. The banter and sass are fantastic! The graphic audio edition really brought that to life! I also appreciate how powerful Feyre has become and how sure of herself she is. She's a good person but will become unhinged when her family and people are at risk and I love her for that.
The cliffhanger was just evil. I'm glad I had the next part/book ready to go and that I let a few books get fully released before starting this series. I'm dreading when I finish listening to all the releases and have to wait for the next books to get released. That's not going to be fun ...more

The Graphic Audio Review: 5 STARS! _____________ I know, I know, I know! I'm VERY much late to this party! In my defense, from what I've seen of people talking about this novel on social media I sincerely thought this was going to be a heavy world-building big fantasy book (which isn't always something my mood reader brain is up for), but it's lowkey not? I'm just confused. I think I may have concocted my own misconceptions of this series without verifying anything because I knew I would get to it at SOME POINT and refused to mistakenly read any spoilers in the meantime.
So due to all the hype this series in general gets on social media, I had VERY HIGH expectations, and...um... it lowkey fell short of all of them? If I'm being frank, I've read much better books than this. Specifically indie/self-published books (in years past and not necessarily solely in the fantasy genre, just books in general). Is this book good? Sure. Have I read much better? Yes. That isn't to say it isn't worth it only that it did not live up to the hype it has on social media.
Onto the story! It was interesting and overall entertaining. I wasn't bored at any point throughout the journey and it kept my attention very well. Tamlin is bae and Lucien's sass was fun to be around. I absolutely despised Feyre's family. I still don't get the Rhysand hype but I'm betting it'll get it as the series progresses.

Xaden is in my Top 5 Book Boyfriends of all time. He's cunning, smart and protects the people he cares about with his life. I adore him! I love that he isn't ashamed of Violet and goes out of his way to help and train her. Violet is amazing! She's overcome so much. Her sass and backbone are awesome! I respect the hell out of her. Teirn's wisecracks and dry humor were great too! Her boy best friend (Dane, Dean, Dill??) I couldn't care less about him if I tried. He's a jerk who consistently puts Violet down and coddles her in dangerous situations. He has this holier-than-thou thing going on and acts like he knows what's best for Violet even when she explicitly says otherwise. It's frustrating and annoying that he doesn't listen or seem to respect her in any way shape or form. It's like she can never prove herself worthy enough to him regardless of the situation. I wasn't expecting his betrayal but if I'm being honest I was in no way surprised by it.

The last 4 or so hours of this book were painful. I had to speed it up to 2x because I simply did not want to finish this book by that point. The heroine got on my nerves. The hero was amazing but he did not make this story pleasant to sit through because there was a point where I was simply OVER IT.

It felt like the author expected me to already know the world she was working in without actually telling me anything about it. I didn't look too deep into this series before starting it so maybe I missed that there was a series before this that I should have started with instead?
The first 30 or so minutes of this book were just the 4 guys talking and everything they said went entirely over my head. Their POV's were the worst parts of this book. I would have rather had the story be told only from the heroine's POV. Also, why did we need 4 different male narrators? If I'm being honest they all sounded the same anyway. Why not make this a full-cast situation where the narrators cut into each other as the dialogue progresses?
I'd also like to mention how the chemistry between the heroes and the heroine was nowhere to be found. All their interactions were just awkward and strangely off-putting. It was weird to say the least. I don't think I'll be continuing on in this series....more

I disliked that the heroine basically devolved into a whiny, dense, and naive version of herself THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BOOK. To say I was on the verge of DNFing this multiple times is putting it lightly. I understand that she desperately wants somewhere to belong and to know of her past and the way Killian was treating her was crappy on his part too BUT come on! Don't go believing strangers without any proof. Ask for pictures and corroborating evidence sheesh.
Killian was being a jack*ss the entire novel. The hot and cold thing he has going on is boring and unimaginative. I was over it in the first book but it just gets worse with this novel. In case you haven't noticed I'm not a big fan of him. He overstayed his welcome if you ask me.
The big boxes mystery is put on the back burner for a good chunk of this story because of the mess/brainwashing the heroine got herself into. I really would like to see how things resolve themselves but these books are making it harder and harder for me to actually stick with it....more
