Olive Murphy is a traveling nurse, scared of flying. She is on her first flight, when someone has a medical emergency, and she saves his life. Unfortunately, she misses her next flight that she needed to catch in order to make a marathon she was going to run in honour of her brother. Co-pilot Stella Soriano, offers to give her a ride to the race and they spent a day together. When the video of Olive saving a life goes viral and brings big sales to the airline, Stella brings forth a proposal of fake dating to gain her Pilot wings. As the two grow closer, they can't deny their chemistry.
I loved this cute sapphic story! I loved both of these characters. They went through a lot of character development not only together, but on their own as well. We only get Olive's POV, but I enjoyed my time being in her head. At the beginning, I wasn't the biggest fan of Stella, and the things she said to Olive, but as you read on she grows on you. You see she doesn't mean to be insensitive at times, she just sometimes speaks before she thinks it all the way through. Fake-dating is one of my favourite tropes, so I ate this one up. I loved their banter, and felt that their connection was very genuine. There are some deeper topics such as mental health, anxiety, misogyny and grief, that I think were handled really well. The complicated relationship between Olive and her family in contrast to Stella and her father was also an interesting part of the story. Bring in Olive's ex, and that's a whole other complicated relationship to deal with. I wish that Lindsey would have had some consequences for the things she did to Olive, but it is what it is in the end.
I will definitely be checking out more of Andie Burke's writing in the future! ...more

Virginia hears the gossip about her, the rumours that follow her everywhere she goes about how promiscuous and easy she is. When her best friend Poppy unexpectedly goes away for the summer, she begins to hang out with Poppy's boyfriend, Rumi. Breaking her norm, she does not sleep with him, in respect to Poppy. But as they spend more time together, she begins to realize that she may be falling in love with him. As she grows closer to Rumi, she also grows closer to his younger sister, Lyra, who tells her about a "special friend". As Lyra confides in her more, she begins to feel uncomfortable as the details of this friend are far too familiar to what happened to her.
This book was intense, and so heartbreaking. It covers some difficult topics, such as sexual abuse, grooming, addiction and suicidal ideation. The trauma that Virginia went through as a child, and had to relive in order to help Lyra was hard to read. I know Virginia is meant to be unlikable, but I couldn't help but want to comfort and hug her. She felt like such a real person, and it hurt to watch her turn to alcohol and sex as a coping mechanism because of that trauma. I like how this showed how sexual assault and abuse affects not only the person who it happened to, but also those around them as well and how these effects can last a lifetime. I also loved how it ended on a more hopeful note, when Virginia chooses to speak up.
This does not feel like a debut in the slightest, and I can't wait to read more of this author's work as soon as it comes out. ...more

16 year old Bethany Greene has never had a boyfriend, let alone been kissed by a boy. When Bethany is turned down by her crush for Homecoming, and all her other options turn into dead-ends, Bethany reluctantly agrees to attend the dance with her best friend's new boyfriend, Jacob. When Saylor breaks up with Jacob unexpectedly, he starts to question if there is something wrong with him. Bethany and Jacob hatch a plan to fake date, and use one another to gain experience. But, as they spend more time together, they start to realize that their feelings may not be so fake.
I loved this way more than I originally thought I would. This was so cute and brought me such good vibes the entire time I read it. This was told in dual POV between Jacob and Bethany, which I enjoyed being in both of their heads. I loved how much both of these characters grew not only together, but as individuals as well. They both learned how to speak up for themselves, and go for what they want, rather than what people expect of them. I'm a sucker for the fake dating trope, so I was definitely intrigued to see how this was going to play out in the end. This was definitely a slow burn romance since Jacob is dating Saylor for a good chunk of the book. I love how much Jacob and Bethany cared for one another, as friends at first, but slowly becoming more. I loved the banter they had with one another. Both were so supportive of each other's hopes and dreams, and really pushed each other to reach for them. Also, big fan of Bethany's moms, they were so fun and I loved how supportive they were of Bethany and her dreams. I also loved how Bethany was a plus sized character that loved her body and embraced her curviness. She refused to let people shame her for her size or her passion when it came to food and I really liked that.
I'm definitely interested in checking out more of this author's work sometime in the near future! ...more

Stevie and Nora have been dating in secret for two years. They're planning on running away to California with one another, but then Stevie suffers a terrible accident causing her to forget the last two years of her life. Nora is devastated, but determined to show Stevie that they are meant to be together.
I read She Gets the Girl last year, and really enjoyed this author's writing style, so I was intrigued to see what it would be like without her co-author. This book made me cry... and I NEVER cry from books. That ending made my heart HURT.
I cared about these two characters so much. I loved both Stevie and Nora, and was rooting for them so hard. I loved watching Stevie develop feelings again, and Nora patiently waiting for her to remember their connection. Stevie was such a wonderful character. I loved watching her rediscover not only herself but her love for Nora. I LOVED the snippets of Nora's letters to Stevie so that we could see inside her head. I wish we had gotten chapters in her POV though. I love how she never gave up on Stevie and knew that she could win her heart a second time.
Highly recommend it, but definitely have your tissues ready....more

On the brink of her law-career falling apart, Nicole receives an invitation from Panthera Leo, a prestigious women's networking club full of successful professionals. Her husband, Dan warns her that they sound like a cult, but Nicole wants to move her career along as quickly as possible. Once Nicole joins her "Pride" the perks come rolling in, until they start asking for favors, and Nicole realizes she may be in over her head.
The concept of this book was so intriguing to me, I love a good revenge plot, especially when it involves bad-ass ladies taking down entitled men. I did not want to put this story down once I started. This is told in alternating timelines of 'then' when Nicole is first invited to the group, and 'now' when Nicole is deep within the claws of this group. I enjoyed learning about each powerful member of the Panthera Leo and learning the motivations behind each character. My biggest complaint about the story was Momma's boy Dan, the husband... he kind of sucked and I wish Nicole kicked him the the curb for all of his children-talk bullshit after his mom came to visit. The story is definitely a slow-burn at the beginning, but I enjoyed trying to piece everything together alongside Nicole. It picked up pace pretty quickly by the end, with twists I didn't see coming. You couldn't help turning the pages trying to figure out how it was all connected in this giant web of lies. I listened to this on audio, which I think helped with the slower parts of the story.
Overall, I had so much fun reading this, and definitely recommend to all thriller lovers. ...more

Bradley Graham and Celine Bangura used to be best friends, but now they are sworn enemies. They both enter a wilderness survival competition, the grand prize being a scholarship to the university of their choosing. As they are forced to spend more time together, they start to realize maybe they aren't enemies after all.
This is my first Talia Hibbert book, and I was NOT disappointed. I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. I loved both of these characters! They were so relatable and felt like real people. I loved the banter between the two, and couldn't get enough of their relationship developing. We love a grumpy sunshine pairing, then compliment that with a friends-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope and I am SOLD. I adored the inner monologue we get from both Brad and Celine, I found them to be hilariously witty and they both had me giggling at multiple points in the story. I loved how Brad's OCD was handled with such care. I also really liked how Celine went through a self-discovery journey along the way and realized that she is more than her accomplishments and her father's abandonment. I loved the supportive family dynamics as well with both Celiene and Brad's families. The supporting characters were also really well done, and all had unique personalities that helped propel the story.
Overall, I really enjoyed this, I will be picking up the rest of Talia Hibbert's books ASAP. ...more

Chess and Emily used to be inseperable until their adult life came between them. When Chess suggests a girls trip to a villa in Italy, Emily jumps at the chance to spend 6 weeks rekindling their friendship. The women discover that in 1974, four famous people stayed in the house, and a chain of events lead to the murder of a young musician. As Emily finds inspiration for her next novel, she digs deeper into the Villa and its many secrets.
I stinking loved this! Apparently Rachel Hawkins' adult books are my jam, since I keep giving them 5 stars. The story is told in alternating timelines of the past and present. I think I found the 'past' chapters much more interesting as you as the reader are trying to piece together the tragic events that occurred at the Villa. I loved how the stories were interwoven with one another and almost mirrored one another. None of these characters are particularly likeable, but I think that is a staple in Hawkin's books at this point. The friendship between Emily and Chess was so toxic... I would have punched Chess out long ago if I were Em. I really enjoyed the audiobook and had a great time listening to it! I thought the inclusion of the quotations from other books, and the transcripts from podcasts about the 1970s characters was really cool and added a little extra to the book as well.
Overall, definitely recommend Rachel Hawkins as an author, I just find her books so entertaining!...more

An orc named Viv decides to put aside her life of violence and settle down in a small village where she opens the first-ever coffee shop. In order to make this plan a success, she enlists the help of a few locals to get the shop up and running.
I read this while I had COVID, and when I tell you that it was EXACTLY what I needed to lift my spirits and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, I'm not lying. I loved every second of this story, and my time with these characters. Thimble was by far my favourite, I thought he was so cute, and I loved how he added new pastries to the menu each morning. I want a thousand spin offs with Thimble, Cal and Tandri.
I'm a big fan of the found family trope, and I think this was the perfect example of why I like it so much. I also enjoyed how slow-burn the relationship between Tandri and Viv was, and I loved seeing them grow to care for one another.
It was just such a pure and wholesome story and I highly recommend it to everyone. ...more

Gina enlists the help of the nerdy school mascot, Belle Hawkins, who just so happens to be hopelessly in love with her. As Chloe and Hawkins begin to spend more time together, they realize that they were friends in Kindergarten, and they start to reminisce about sweeter times.
THIS WAS SO STINKING CUTE I WANT TO CRY. I read it in one sitting, I didn't want to put it down. Belle and Chloe were both such sweet characters and I loved seeing them together. I love how much they grew together and apart in this. The overall message of friendship, self-acceptance and focusing on what makes you happy, was really well done. I loved the art style and the all-pink colour pallet. Highly recommend this one!...more

After saving the Royal Prince Cyrus when they were children, Violet is made the court Seer. She is tasked with reading the Threads of Fate to see the past and future. When Violet sees Cyrus' untimely death, the King asks her to lie about what she saw. She tells of a bride, who will become known after Cyrus returns from his journey. But when he returns, with no bride on his arm, whispers of his curse begin to circulate.
I had SO MUCH fun while reading this! I think this may be one of the best enemies to lovers trope I've read to date. We love a good hate kiss... The sexual tension and chemistry between these two was **chef's kiss** I loved the banter between them, and how much they bickered. I love how untrusting of each other these two were and I was shrieking at all the betrayal in this - I ate it up every time. I adored Violet as a main character, she was so sarcastic, confident and unabashedly herself. I love how she told her messy little lies to shape the world and court how she wanted and no one could tell her she was wrong. She was conniving and impulsive and I couldn't get enough of her. Camilla, the prince's chaotic lesbian twin sister was such a fun side character, I loved every second she was on page. I love how there are little tidbits of a variety of fairytales in this such a Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella! Also big fan of all the fairytale elements in the fae, monsters and dark magic.
I am in desperate need of the next in the duology! ...more

This gave me such Female Dexter vibes and I was HERE FOR IT. I am OBSESSED already, and I know it's only going to get better as I continue reading. I can already tell I'm going to be addicted to this series. I love Lana, and how strong she is. I love Logan and how sweet he is. Their relationship with one another is to die for (literally muhaaha), and I am rooting for them so hard. There are definitely some major trigger warnings for rape and graphic violence, so be aware of what you're getting yourself into when picking this series up.

They end up getting engaged, but then Emma receives a phone call informing her that Jesse has been found, alive and ready to pick up where they left off. Now Emma must decide who she wants to spend her life with.
I love me a Taylor Jenkins Reid book, and this one is no different. I loved this book, and my time reading it. I think the writing was incredibly beautiful and pulled at my heartstrings tenfold. This was such an insane rollercoaster of emotions. Any book that can make me cry ends up being one of my favourites. I didn't want to put the book down, and was so invested in this story. I loved the development that these characters went through. I loved how we got to see Emma and Jesse falling in love, Emma going through complete heartbreak with the loss of Jesse, Emma finding love again in Sam and then having to figure out where her heart truly lies. Emma was such a great character, who had to make such a hard decision. Team Sam all the way, I loved his character and was praying Emma would choose him in the end.
The ending was absolute perfection, and I sobbed, and smiled at the same time. I think I may love this even more then I did Evelyn... HIGHLY RECOMMEND. ...more

Delilah Green has just been hired to be her step-sister Astrid's wedding photographer. This means, she has to return to her hometown of Bright Falls, a place she swore she'd never go back to. She plans to get in and out as quickly as possible, but the she meets bridesmaid Claire Sutherland and her plans go out the window.
I flew through this book so quickly, and I honestly LOVED THIS SO MUCH. These characters shone so brightly, and I loved every second I got to spend with them. I listened to this on audio, and the narrator did such a great job making these characters come to life. Delilah was definitely my favourite of them all. She was so spunky, multilayered and fun to read about. Also, big fan of Claire. I loved her own journey of raising a child by herself, but also having to navigate that child's father coming back into the picture while also trying to juggle a budding romance at the same time. The chemistry between Claire and Delilah was *chef's kiss and I thoroughly enjoyed watching their relationship grow and develop. I also liked how we got to see the backstory of Astrid and Delilah's relationship, and how different they both viewed heir history with on another. I really enjoyed the friendships in this, but I definitely think the bridesmaids should have just talked to Astrid, rather than try to hijack the wedding... but it did make for an interesting read so I'm not that mad about it.

I read Temper by Layne Fargo years ago, and it made my Top Books list for that year... I think this may make the list this year! I flew through this book - and loved every second of it. I just find Fargo's writing style to be so easy to read. The pacing was so fast, and exciting with very short chapters, making it hard to put down. I am a sucker for revenge plot lines, so I ate this up. I loved the dual POV between Scarlett and Carly, and how their stories interwove. I definitely enjoyed Scarlett's chapters more then Carly, but they were both interesting storylines. Scarlett was such an intriguing character to me, I know you're not supposed to be rooting for her because she's a literal serial killer but I couldn't help it. I also loved how FUNNY she was, some of the snarky thoughts she had through out the book made me laugh out loud. I was so invested in her story and where it was going to go next.

19 year-old Emeline Lark wants nothing more than to be a singer. On the verge of making it big, Emeline begins to fully focus on her career, leaving Edgewood and moving to Montreal. She receives a phone call, informing her that her grandfather, who has Alzheimer's has gone missing from his assisted living home. All that was left behind was a strange orb, meaning he was tithed to the Wood King. Emeline immediately puts everything on hold to return to Edgewood, and rescue her family. While in the Woods, Emeline learns of the curse that plagues the forest and the people within.
I was initially drawn to this book because of the author, as well as this gorgeous cover and ended up thoroughly enjoying the story! I loved how music and memory were interwoven together in such a unique way in this. The writing is beautiful and atmospheric, I loved the forest setting so much. I thought it was a nice touch to have bits of the book set in Montreal as well. There were some parts that were predictable, but many twists that I also didn't see coming, so it was a nice balance of the two. I'm also always a fan of dragons, so I was pleasantly surprised when one was featured in this! I liked Emeline as a main character for the most part, but at times she was frustrating with the way she behaves. I really loved her relationship with her grandfather, and can definitely relate to some of her feelings. My Grandma also has Alzheimer's and its definitely hard to have her not remember me anymore, so I can relate to her grief. I really loved her character development, and how her outlook on life changed as the story progressed. I liked the enemies to lover romance in this, and I liked their relationship for the most part. There were some questionable things the love interest did... but I still enjoyed his character. I thought the backstory behind the romance in this to be intriguing, but again... kind of a dick move my dude... I also loved that the romance wasn't the main focus of the book! I also liked the side characters of Rook, Sable and Grace, I found them to be a great addition to the story overall. I listened to this on audio, and thought the narrator did an incredible job with the story and these characters!
Overall, I highly recommend this, especially because it is a standalone!...more
In the realm of Azenor, where Clementine Madigan lives, a plague where magic flows from the mountains causes nightmares to come to life. Her father is the territory warden of Hereswith, banishing these nightmares each New Moon. Clementine has been training to take over his position, but when two magicians challenge her father for the position, she suffers a great loss that draws her into a century old battle.
I think Rebecca Ross is quickly becoming an auto buy author for me, there's just something about her writing style that makes me need to read her books! I was instantly drawn into this world, magic system and characters. I really loved Clementine, she was clever, fierce and independent and refused to back down from a challenge. I love how her entire storyline was based on revenge... I mean, she definitely ditched that pretty quickly, but I was here for it while it lasted. Pelan was also another great character and I loved watching Clem and his relationship grow from unknown enemies to lovers. I really enjoyed learning more about Phelan and his family as the story went on. I enjoyed how simple this story seemed at the beginning, but became something so much more multi-layered in the end. I loved learning more about the seven wraiths, and loved how the tale was interwoven so expertly into the overall plot of the book.
I desperately want another book in tis world, please.... PLEASE....more
After a rebellion many years ago, 9 Greek Gods have been abandoned by Zeus and forced to walk Earth as mortals every 7 years. Over a period of 7 days, the descendant of these Gods partake in the Agon, a hunt to the death. If a descendant is killed during this time, the killer takes on the power and immortality of that God for themselves. Lore, the last descendant of the Perseus bloodline, has been in hiding ever since the brutal murder of her family. With the start of the next Agon, the return of a long lost friend and a Goddess asking for help, Lore decides to partake in the hunt to seek revenge on a new God, Wrath.
This was pitched as Percy Jackson meets Hunger Games and I can definitely see that. I know that this had a lot of mixed reviews, so I had pretty low expectations going in. I've noticed that many people thought that it was info dumpy and a bit confusing. I am a huge fan of Greek mythology, and I think because of that, I didn't find it to be confusing as I knew most of the myths involved. I think that if you didn't have the background knowledge of the myths and the different Gods and Goddesses, it could definitely get confusing at times. I love how it took place in modern day New York and felt that the myths were tied in nicely to the overall plot of the story. The book is quite long, but I was never bored through out the entire book, there was non-stop action and extremely fast-paced. I also loved the underlying tones of feminism in this, and how powerful women are in this. I enjoyed how the story was told in both present time and flashbacks to Lore's past. The book definitely goes darker than I thought it would - and the battle scenes do get quite graphic, so if gore isn't your thing, maybe avoid this. It also has trigger warning for rape and pedophilia so be aware of that going in.
I loved every one of these characters, and grew attached to them as the story continued. Lore was a great main character, I loved learning more about her complex past and why she ran away from the Hunt so many years ago. I thought her character development was really interesting and I was rooting for her the entire time. The side characters were also wonderful! Castor was the most intriguing character in my opinion, and I loved trying to figure out the mystery behind him. I loved his friendship with Van, and how loyal they were to one another. Miles was my favourite character though, he was such a sweetheart and big cinnamon roll and I love the little romance he got into with another of the side characters. I think the found family aspect in this was really great, and I love how supportive and caring these characters were of one another. Athena was also one of my favourite characters. I loved how fierce and no-bullshit she was. She made the story so much more interesting and I loved every scene she was in. The banter between all of these characters was so much fun, and I loved reading about these complex relationships growing and developing.
Overall, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this, but I do think it will be a favourite of the year! ...more

The second book in The Prison Healer series.
This starts up almost right after the conclusion of the second book, and I was so happy to see these characters again! I loved watching Kiva battle with who her loyalty lies with and coming to terms with her decisions. I still wish to protect Tipp at all costs, and I adore him with my whole heart. I also thoroughly enjoyed the introduction of new characters such as Rhess, Torell and Zuleeka. I found all three to be so intriguing and I was so invested in how they played into the overall story. The second book is slower than the first, but it didn't feel like it lagged at all. I like how this had more of a focus on the political side of things, and gave us more of an understanding of life outside the prison we didn't get in the first installment. The first book was full of twists and turns I didn't see coming, and this installment was the exact same thing. At times, my jaw was on the floor from what happened in the story and where it was going.
I went into this book thinking it was a duology... I was expecting a nice conclusion to Kiva's story and then BAM heartbreak. I don't think you understand my SHOCK and SORROW of having to wait until JUNE 2022 before I know what happened to my babies. I love this series, and these characters so much, this series has quickly become one of my favourites of 2021. ...more

With the help of Sal's brother, Pip uncovers secrets that point to a very different suspect that will stop at nothing to keep their identity unknown to the public.
I flew through this book! The writing style was so addictive and I was completely invested in the story and who was behind Andie's death. I mean, its probably unlikely that a 17 year old could have pulled all of this off without being charged with anything... the amount of illegally stupid and immoral things Pippa and Ravi did... but I'll suspend my believability for a bit because of how much fun this book was. Mixed media is one of my favourite ways to tell a story so I thoroughly enjoyed the inclusion of maps, journal entries, police reports and diagrams in this book. This was also a full cast audiobook, which I am ALWAYS a fan of. This cast of characters were a lot of fun and I enjoyed getting to know them as the story progressed. Pip is very strong willed and never gives up on her pursuit for he truth. Ravi was a sweetheart, and I like how he was always there to support Pip when she needed help with the investigation. I thought I had it all figured out but ended up only being partially correct, which I loved.
I am so excited to continue on with the series and I hope to find copies of book 2 and 3 soon! ...more

The Kingdom of Kandala, separated into multiple sectors, is on the brink of collapsing when a deadly virus has been spreading for many years now. King Harristan was appointed after the assassination of his parents, causing young Prince Corrick to step into the role of King's Justice. As the years pass, the bothers have gained the reputation of being ruthless, when it comes to the punishments they bestow on their people when crimes are committed. When people begin thinking that the medicine supplied by the Kingdom, created by Moonflower petals which are limited to certain sectors is no longer effective, this sparks rumors of a rebellion. Tessa Cade, an apothecary apprentice living in the Wilds takes it upon herself, with the help of her masked bestfriend Wes, to deliver medicine to those who can't afford it. When a sudden tragedy occurs, Tessa does the unthinkable and sneaks into the palace in the hopes of finding more elixir to help those in need. She finds more secrets than she expected, and she realizes that things aren't what they seem in the Kingdom of Kandala.
This is my first Brigid Kemmerer book, but I have heard nothing but great things about her writing. I LOVED THIS SO MUCH AND NEED MORE! I believe this is meant to be a retelling of Robin Hood (I may be wrong, but I saw many similarities between these two stories, so I do hope I am right!) I was instantly hooked on these characters and invested in the plot. Although a bit predictable at some points, I found this to be thrilling and action-packed, I read it in one day. There were also twists and turns I did not see coming, so I found the balance of predictability and the unknown to be in the perfect balance. The political intrigue in this was really interesting, and I loved the crumbling dynamics between the Kingdom and the counsel members.
I think the characters are what really shone for me in this book. They are all pretty complex, and I had so much fun getting to know them. Tessa and Wes are both such awesome characters and I loved their vigilante relationship. I love how they wore masks, to ensure they didn't know each others identities in case of capture, I think it added a fun element to their relationship. Tessa is such a fierce and passionate character, and I love how she never backed down when standing up for the things and people she believed in. Also, I am a ginormous fan of the morally grey Prince Corrick, even with his scary reputation, he is so mysterious and I couldn't help falling in love with his character. I loved getting to know him as the story progressed and learning more about his backstory and how he gained his reputation in the palace. I loved the complicated relationship in this book and how the two characters had to learn to trust one another after feeling betrayed by the other. I also really enjoyed the side characters as well, especially Quint, the palace master. He was such a fun loving character and I loved his relationship with Corrick.
I am so happy that this is going to be a series, because I fell in love with this world and all of these characters and can't wait to see how the story progresses from here!...more
