I am already a hater of excessive use of the clumsy girl trope, but the medical student in me is very concerned that this chick is losing her balance I am already a hater of excessive use of the clumsy girl trope, but the medical student in me is very concerned that this chick is losing her balance and falling over from merely standing still.
✧ DNF 20%, cringy dialogue and also this man lies about his career as a hockey player for literally no reason.
also, please go to the doctor to rule out a medical problem influencing your gait. there will not always be a hot hockey player to catch you. ...more
I promise no one is as utterly disappointed as I am that this did not hit.
at the end of book one, I was really eager to see how the story continued. I promise no one is as utterly disappointed as I am that this did not hit.
at the end of book one, I was really eager to see how the story continued. I felt as if the story was only just beginning and could catapult itself into top tier romantacy status. unfortunately, I was not obsessed with the direction of plot events, to put it lightly. Dare I say, and please no one be offended because this genuinely saddens me, but a lot of things were coming across as cringey to me. and diem's decisions were constantly so out of pocket. I was literally the meme of the woman with math equations floating around her head, trying to get the math to start mathing. she surpassed naive and entered gullible and ignorant territory like fifty miles back.
I want to be clear that I did not go into this with excessively high expectations. I had heard people feeling the same way reading this as they did when they were reading ACOTAR for the first time. I interpreted this to mean not necessarily SJM status, but compulsively bingeable, with a story and characters that hook you in. I did not have that experience. I kept having to take breaks because my cringe threshold was being exceeded, and I needed time and space to try to get past it.
Out of respect for those that love this series, and because the thought of experiencing 1,000 more pages of this does not sound palatable to me, I will not be continuing the series.
attention romantacy lovers because this book joins the very short list of romantacies that are actually worth reading on KU.
I'm serious, here's the lattention romantacy lovers because this book joins the very short list of romantacies that are actually worth reading on KU.
I'm serious, here's the list: 1. The Crowns of Nyaxia series 2. The War of Lost Hearts series (pending continuation) 2. The Bridge Kingdom series (soon to be leaving KU) 3. House of Bane and Blood
that's it, all the others are trash!
interesting magic system set in a peaky blinders-inspired universe, kind of steampunk. I was impressed by the writing from page one of the prologue, and the story picks up right away from the first chapter. as a cherry on top it includes character fan art and a map.
thank the universe that book 2 just came out because I would have been incredibly distraught by that cliffhanger.
✧ 4.5 stars, will be purchasing hardcovers of this series immediately...more
