Roberson is not a bad writer, but it's really not about finding ways to actually enjoy dating in a fraught political climate: it's a chatty memoir about having crushes. There's nothing wrong with that, and Roberson is funny and articulates specific dating conundra really well, but it doesn't offer anything particularly new.
I ended up quitting about halfway through when I realized the whole thing was going to be stories about how fun it is to have crushes and how hard it is to date and how it sucks to love men but also be structurally oppressed by men because... yeah, I know all that already. Very much the right book if you're looking for funny commiseration about those topics! If you want something weightier, give this a pass....more
