Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone is another western with some european connections. This time it's not vikings but people from a mde up duchy close to germany. It is a classic Preacher story starting in St. Louis with someone needing his help going out in the wilderness. It has what one expects in a western and it is entertaining as it usually is with Preacher, I would however read more about him in a later time. It is an ok western but I don't think I will follow it since I felt it wasn't all there. The concept is great with the main character and it can be a great series but how many times can he pick up a gun to save the day? Wortham would write a real western, he has been close but with The Journey South he takes the step all the way. It is agreat western with some wonderful characters. The story in itself is not very new but what happens on the way home for Cap Whitlatch is things I haven't read in a western before. I have been a big fan of Wortham since the first book in the Red River series and he never lets you down. He is one of the best authors from Texas nowadays. I'm already looking forward to the next story....more

FThe feud between The Maddox and Drew clans continue in Hard Winter, the second book in this new series from William W. johnstone and J.A. Johnstone. Finally they have created a new series that is actually really good apart from the fact that the same kids is held hostage by the bad guys in both books. I like the fact that the books is set in three time periods to tell different stories and also the history of the two families and the ongoing dislike they have for each other. I haven't felt this positive in a long time with a book from this author and look forward to the next one. I must thank Pinnacle Books and Netgalley for letting me read this advance copy....more

I will always enjoy a good western, sadly some of the newer ones from these author varies too much in quality. I thank Pinnacle Books and Netgalley for supplying me with this advance copy....more

The Angry Land is all about cattle rustling and this time Smoke meets a couple of gents that has their own series, The Range Detectives. William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone keeps producing western series in a pace I no longer can keep up with so I wont even try to read them all. Some are good and some are great and some are just, why. Beans, Bourbon, and Blood by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone is a rather traditional western with a small comunity held in an iron grip by a powerful rancher and his corrupt judge and town marshall. This is supposed tpo be a new series and I think that it will be a good one, not that the Johnstone estate needs more series. Still I am a sucker for westerns and this is one and I will continue reading the work from Johnstone. I thank Pinnacle and Netgalley fro letting me read this advance copy....more
