"Not to make you jealous," Nigel said, "but I was holding hands with a ghost."
So happy to be back with the ghost-hunting gang. Rattling Bone gives us old familial drama, a haunted af defunct distillery, and angst/drama-free romance.
Meeting the parents can be awkward enough without vengeful spirits thrown into the mix. Just after Christmans, Oscar and the OutFoxing the Paranormal crew head to his hometown where he introduces Nigel to his parents. This was such a cute scene.
But the cuteness doesn't last long before some family secrets come to light. Secrets that come attached with an angry ghost looking for revenge.
The distillery setting was really spooky. I don't want to give anything away, but let's just say you will never catch me at an abandoned anything in the wooded mountainside.
Oscar, Nigel, Chris, and Tina make a great team. Their friendship was just as good as the romance between Oscar and Nigel.
Now the wait for book 3 begins.

Following Jonathon as he visits the small village of Merrychurch to visit his uncle Dominic. He arrives at the manor house to find his uncle dead in his study. Staged to look like an accident, it's quickly determined to be foul play.
The first person Jonathon meets in Merrychurch is local pub owner Mike. Staying at Mike's pub while the investigation procedes, the two start investigating the suspicious circumstances of Jonathon's uncles death themselves. Mike is a former cop himself which is very helpful.
The mystery was very well done in my opinion. Suspects were presented and investigated, as the breadcrumbs were lain for who the real killer was. And even though I guessed who the killer was early on, I didn't mind as I'm here for the cosy vibes and the romance!
Speaking of romance, I love Jonathan and Mike together. They make such a good team and couple. Working together to solve the mystery while getting to know one another and beginning a romantic relationship.

I really enjoyed the famiMark's sister and Isaiah’s cousin tragically pass in a car accident. It's up to Mark and Isaiah to look after their children.
I really enjoyed the familial bonding moments between them. Losing their parents made for some tough and heartbreaking moments with the kids, but there were also some really adorable moments too. And watching them heal together was well done.
Where Squared Away started to let me down was with Mark. He was overbearing and controlling, it got on my nerves. There was a lot about custody, and some of the decisions Mark made (even though they were most likely from a good place) were so frustrating.
Some of the things he did would obviously offend Isaiah, and Mark just expects him to be ok with it because he's doing it to protect Isaiah. Like, maybe if you just communicated your thoughts with Isaiah before making important decisions, it would cause less trouble...
Putting Mark's annoying traits aside, the romance between Mark and Isaiah was really nice. I liked that they had a previous slight flirtation that led to some mutual pining. They made a great couple!

After his sister bails, it's up to Hank to look after his niece Josie. She's his main concern and he's doing everything to make her happy. That means his own life has taken a backseat. That is until things with Justin, his gym's daycare worker, gets a bit more personal.
The romance is low angst and very sweet. Hank and Justin are really cute together, and I love how much Justin cares for Josie.
My main annoyance was how judgmental Hank was of Justin, specifically his voice. It was not good....more

Now, things are tense in the aftermath of their relationship. We follow Jessie's perspective as he tries to stay friends with Rocky, while also still having romantic feelings for him.
I really enjoyed this second chance romance. In such a short page count, Lanyon managed to convey our couples complicated history and feelings. I loved the setting of a cosy snowed-in cabin. I only wish that the ending was longer, I wanted to spend more time with Rocky and Jesse!...more

Eli Ward is back in his hometown, and staying with his parents for the holidays. Although it might not be just for the holidays as his career in NYC is a bit rocky at the moment. He's struggling with a feeling of failure and doesn't know how to tell his parents that he might have to move home.
On a drink run for his parent's party, Eli runs into his first boyfriend Nick Wu. Nick's now divorced and has a daughter. They haven't seen each other in years and it's the first time since Eli transitioned so Nick doesn't recognise him at first, but that connection is still there and they catch up.
I loved Eli and Nick's romance. They have a lot of history and it was fun getting to see that while also getting to see them reconnect and make new ones.
Nick's daughter Zoe is absolutely adorable, and seeing the three of them interact was the cutest!...more

It's a second chance romance which did make me nervous as I wasn't sure if that was something I'd like. However, it was done really well here and had me rooting for the couple from the start, while also understanding why it's a second-chance.
I think what makes this so successful is that we get to see Joe and Lachlan meet and get together. The plot then jumps a few months after they've split and the second-chance romance begins.
Joe's a wedding planner, and Lachlan's a guest at one of his weddings. They have a connection and hook-up, but it's nothing serious. Until they keep running into each other at weddings Joe has planned, and they wind up married themselves. The whirlwind marriage doesn't last long.
"Britney Spears had a lengthier first go at matrimony."
Present day, Joe's in Scotland for a job where after the ceremony they're snowed in. Which wouldn't be too bad except Lachlan turned up on the guest list to win Joe back.
I loved this book from the start, but this is where it completely had me smitten. It was so fun and unique. I just love Joe and Lachlan.

Quinn and Jonas have some amazing chemistry. The prologue for Naughty & Nice was perfection. It did a great job of establishing our characters, the slight animosity between the new step-brothers that's actually just angst and longing with the backdrop of a really sweet and nostalgic Christmas moment.
The story proper takes place a few years later after Quinn and Jonas' parents divorce, and they are no longer step-siblings. They're reunited after not seeing each other for a while in a snowy mountain cabin for the Christmas season. A storm means they have the cabin to themselves for a bit. And while their circumstances have changed, their feelings remains. Only now there's a lot less holding them back and they have a romantic and isolated cabin to reacquaint themselves with each other.
Naughty & Nice had a really strong 2/3's, where I was loving the romance and our characters, but things started to get rocky, and my enjoyment ebbed, towards the end. Quinn's negative reaction to finding Jonas's letters just felt unreasonable. ...more
