it was amazing

600 pages of concentrated awesomesauce, let down a little by Stephenson's decision to devote so much of the last part to backfilling the 5000 years of future history he skipped absent the underpinnings of character or narrative. Still. His best in a decade, I dare say.

Kate I got a copy yesterday and I cannot wait to read it! After reading your review, I'm more impatient than ever.

Matthew Fitzgerald Better than Anathem? Which I gave 3 stars but still ... ?

For my money, yes. Much more accessible and much more fun from the first page.

Dave How about better than Cryptonomicon? For my money, that's Stephenson's best. Starting Seveneves now!

Matthew Fitzgerald Cryptonomicon was great, but I read all of the Baroque Cycle first, so it still feels like a weird "part 4" of that story to me.

Matt Cryptonomicon and the Baroque Cycle are more than a decade old so not counted in Niall's "best in a decade" nomination. Of his books in the last ten years I think Anathem is pretty good, I liked it better than this one.
