I just finished a reread as an audiobook and I just have to say the narrator Moira Quirk is EXQUISITE. She's up there with Tim Gerard Reynolds or James Marsters for me and that's a big deal for me to say that. I actually missed a turn on a drive I was so into it there at the end.

I frankly adore this book.

I'm even more confident in my top-five-percent rating on this book after a reread. This is a book that almost HAS to be read more than once for it all to click. I'm not sure how well an initial read would be in audiobook but I would guess it would work quite well with the understanding that after reading book two you're going to want to come back and do this again anyways.

I'm preserving my original review below, it's all still true. I think you just have to roll with it.

-- Original review below --

Impressively creative. And twisty. And manic. And fun. And funny.

And, you know, COMPLICATED.

The complicated stuff almost makes me want to give it four stars, and I felt like the pacing was not to my taste. But overall I'd rather bump it to five for all of the other superlatives that it has going for it.

Foul-mouthed lesbian necromancers in a space empire. Look, that says it all. Either you're gonna be all in on something like that or not. I just pre-ordered the second one.
