it was ok

** spoiler alert ** The book was very twee.
It was very repetitive with so much exposition. The main character mentioned or thought about missing Reuben dozens of times. The countless mentions of the calendar and maple syrup became boring.
Very two dimensional characters, all so nice and helpful, very dull.
The plan to divide the land was nonsense as was the race, especially when who were the legal heirs hadn’t been decided.
Canadian immigration rules must be very lax if a 40 year old British woman and her son can just move there indefinitely and work in a dinner.
The inner monologue of Chloe agonising (a lot) how her ex didn’t love her enough to stay came out of nowhere as they were previously described as friends with benefits. No depth to any emotion.
The analogy of cheese on toast melting to describe sexual excitement made me laugh, don’t think it was intentional.

Overall, not for me. Would have happily watched a 90 minute Christmas movie and loved to have seen the scenery, not ploughed through a novel.
