If I had to describe this book in one word, I’d probably say… wacky. But very very dark wackiness. Disturbingly weird. Like shoving a suppository up a lion’s ass weird. And yes, I did just type that sentence, much to my chagrin.
Yeah this was an odd one. Can’t say I enjoyed it, but it did compel me to keep going somehow. I like what hawkins did with steve and erwin as characters and even carolyn was interesting, the way she dealt with her trauma and figuring out her master plan was incredibly rewarding once unraveled. As far I know, I didn’t see any trigger warnings at the front of the book but please research before reading, cause it deals with A LOT of heavy topics.
The characters and the plot were interesting enough, but I’m not really sure what I gained by reading this, other than a stronger stomach. The ending was pretty satisfying though.
I’d recommend finding an ebook version, audiobook or checking this out from your library before buying cause I don’t think I’d want this on my shelves
