Eli Roth’s slasher movie Thanksgiving initially began as a faux trailer created for 2007’s Grindhouse, which ended with ominous voiceover declaring the faux grindhouse film was “coming this February.” It all comes full circle as the new slasher arrives on Netflix…in February.
The slasher arrives on the streaming service much sooner than expected, too. Look for Thanksgiving on Netflix beginning tomorrow, February 17.

Sixteen years passed from the time Eli Roth made a slasher faux trailer called Thanksgiving for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse to the day when a feature version of Thanksgiving (read our review Here) finally made its way into theatres – and the fact that we’re being rewarded for our patience with not just that movie, but also a sequel that’s expected to reach theatres sometime in 2025 is truly something to be thankful about. Now Thanksgiving cast members Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman have confirmed to Games Radar that they are going to be coming back for Thanksgiving 2!
When asked if she’ll be in the sequel Roth is crafting with Thanksgiving co-writer Jeff Rendell, Verlaque said, “To my knowledge, yes. I think that it’ll be a continuation of where we last saw (her character). So we’ll see. But right now, I think so.

A lot of genre fans had been waiting sixteen years to see director Eli Roth’s holiday slasher Thanksgiving (read our review Here), ever since he contributed a faux trailer for the concept to the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse back in 2007. The movie hasn’t exactly done massive numbers since reaching theatres a week and a half ago; so far it has racked up just over $30 million at the global box office. But that’s enough to get Sony’s TriStar Pictures to greenlight a sequel! Roth took to social media to announce that Thanksgiving 2 is a go, and he’ll be returning to the helm for this follow-up! Roth’s announcement can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Director Eli Roth is returning for seconds of “Thanksgiving.” He’s cooking up a sequel to his holiday-themed slasher film, with the follow-up set to open theatrically in 2025. It’s unclear which — if any — any cast members will be back.

Sixteen years after the film’s trailer premiered as part of the Grindhouse theatrical experience, Eli Roth’s slasher movie Thanksgiving carved its way into theaters over the weekend.
The rated “R” bloodbath was produced for just $15 million, a number that the film is likely to pass in the coming days. Here in the United States, Thanksgiving scared up $10.2 million in its debut weekend, with the film’s worldwide opening bringing the current total to $12.6 million.
While not exactly a massive opening weekend for Roth’s return to horror – factoring in marketing costs and other factors, Thanksgiving likely needs to hit $30 million before it starts making a profit – it’s just great to see a bloody-as-hell, old school slasher carving out a piece of the box office pie here in 2023. And most importantly, fans and critics alike are raving about the back-to-basics slasher, which currently has an 83% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Director and horror aficionado Eli Roth had plenty of fun working on his friends Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 drive-in double feature Grindhouse. Roth wasn’t part of the main attraction, but he did one of the fake trailers for a non-existent feature called Thanksgiving that was placed between the two films. That trailer was a hilarious and gruesome satire of the ’80s trend of holiday-themed horror movies such as Halloween, Black Christmas, My Bloody Valentine, April Fool’s Day, New Year’s Evil, Silent Night Deadly Night, etc.
Massachusetts native Roth correctly surmised that no one had yet done one centered on Thanksgiving. Plymouth was the birthplace of the holiday, and Roth saw plenty of opportunities to stage some gross-out murders including several beheadings and a cooked human in the form of the traditional turkey dinner. There even was a gut-wrenching scene with a trampoline-jumping teenager meeting a memorable end.

Eli Roth‘s long-awaited slasher movie Thanksgiving is set to reach theatres on November 17th (that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year), and with just over two weeks to go until we reach that date, the movie has just earned its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. And it’s exactly the rating we’ve been hoping to see for this one. Thanksgiving has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody horror violence and gore, pervasive language and some sexual material. It is a bit surprising not to see nudity specified on that list, but the rest of the reasons were expected.
Thanksgiving is a feature expansion of the faux trailer (which did feature nudity) Roth made for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse sixteen years ago. Roth has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving ever since he made the faux trailer,...

Director Eli Roth‘s long-awaited slasher movie Thanksgiving is set to reach theatres on November 17th (that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year) – but if you want to enter the world of the film before then, you should check out the new mobile, desktop, and VR game Survive Thanksgiving, a collaboration between Spyglass Media Group, Sony Pictures, and the AI and metaverse company MeetKai. The game can be played at This Link.
VentureBeat reports that Survive Thanksgiving was developed on MeetKai’s metaverse platform and transports players into a nightmarish reality set in the peaceful town of Plymouth, Massachusetts. Through compatible VR headsets or any web browser on mobile or desktop devices, participants find themselves face-to-face with a menacing killer who has been terrorizing residents using infamous holiday themes. The killer in director Eli Roth‘s long-awaited slasher movie Thanksgiving, which is set to reach theatres on November 17th (that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year), wears a mask inspired by John Carver, the first governor of the Plymouth colony. This Thanksgiving, there will be no leftover victims.
Eli Roth’s long-awaited “Thanksgiving” is a holiday-set slasher, with a masked pilgrim terrorizing the residents of Plymouth, Massachusetts years after a Black Friday riot ended in tragedy.
Patrick Dempsey stars as the local police officer investigating the slew of killings, including a woman being baked alive in an oven. Addison Rae, Gina Gershon, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, and Rick Hoffman also star.
“Thanksgiving” is co-written and directed by Roth, who previously created a mock trailer for the film to lead into Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s “Grindhouse” in 2007. Roth told Collider that there were “rights issues” for the film, as well as pressure to get the tone right.
“For years, I was just connecting the dots between the trailer, and then I was like, ‘Am I just filming the scenes in between what I already did before it?...

Sixteen years after making the ’80s slasher faux trailer Thanksgiving for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, director Eli Roth has finally been able to make a full Thanksgiving feature. The film is set to reach theatres on November 17th – that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year – and today we’ve gotten our hands on a short featurette in which Roth discusses the film. I made this one, that’s enough.” You can watch the featurette, followed by the full trailer, in the embed above.

4th Update, Oct 16: Casey Wasserman is the latest Hollywood heavyweight to speak out in support of Israel.
“There is no justification for this,” the Wasserman chairman-ceo – and chairman of the L.A. 2028 committee – reportedly said at an International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai on Monday. “I unequivocally stand in solidarity with Israel, but let me be clear I also stand with the innocent civilians in Gaza who did not choose this war.”
Referencing the terrorist kidnapping of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Games, Wasserman continued, “Unfortunately, the Olympics are not immune to the world we live in.
“At its worst, it is a platform for hate to express itself on the stage and we will always remember the 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team who were taken hostage and murdered in Munich.

The New York Comic-Con panel for TriStar and Spyglass’ Eli Roth directed horror movie, Thanksgiving, just canceled. No reason was provided by the studio. A sit-down chat with the genre filmmaker, who was going to show off a featurette in the room, was to take place tomorrow, Oct. 13 at the Empire Stage in the Javits Center at 8 30Pm.
One source says the last-minute pull-out was due to a “scheduling issue”. We hear at this time that no other panels at Nycc are expected to cancel tomorrow.
Roth’s Thanksgiving, which is set for a Nov. 17 theatrical release, is based off his faux trailer in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 Grindhouse film.

Based on his fake trailer from the Grindhouse Double Feature (2007), Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving is finally a real movie, and IGN has debuted the brand new Red Band trailer today.
Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving comes exclusively to theaters on November 17.
Watch the official Red Band trailer for Thanksgiving below, which removes the Grindhouse-style filter of grime that was applied to the original faux trailer back in 2007. What we’re getting with the actual Thanksgiving movie is a slick, modern slasher set in the present day, but it seems clear based on this trailer that Eli Roth isn’t leaving any of that ’80s gore behind.
Thanksgiving looks like a return to Roth’s gory roots, introducing a cast of attractive young actors and then brutally slaughtering them one-by-one like Thanksgiving turkeys.
It may not be the 1980s anymore, but who says we have to leave the good-old-fashioned slasher movie behind?...

He has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving ever since he made that faux trailer, and even wrote the screenplay with Jeff Rendell (who played the homicidal pilgrim in the trailer) a dozen years ago. Now the feature has finally happened, thanks to Spyglass Media stepping in to provide the funding. Roth jumped at the chance to get the movie made,...

After 15 years of rumors, Eli Roth finally has helmed the feature “Thanksgiving.”
Back in 2007, Roth created a mock trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s “Grindhouse” with an unhinged holiday slasher set in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Now, Patrick Dempsey and Addison Rae lead the real-life horror movie.
Per the official synopsis, the table is set, the festivities have begun, but an uninvited guest has arrived… and this year, there will be no leftovers.
The film follows a serial killer who slices and dices the residents of Plymouth one by one over the Thanksgiving holiday. Gina Gershon, Milo Manheim, Rick Hoffman, Tim Dillon, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Gabriel Davenport, Tomaso Sanelli, Karen Cliche, and Jenna Warren also star. “Thanksgiving” was written by Jeff Rendell. Spyglass produces the film, along with Roth and Roger Birnbaum.
In addition to directing “Thanksgiving,” Roth recently starred in “The Idol” and is also co-directing the...

Over 15 years after it was originally teased with a fake trailer as part of the Grindhouse Double Feature (2007) experience, Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving is finally A Real Movie.
Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving slashes into theaters on November 17, 2023, and as promised, the official teaser trailer for the once-fake horror movie has debuted online this morning.
This real trailer for the real movie ditches the Grindhouse-style aesthetic of the fake trailer for the fake movie, but you’ll recognize a good deal of imagery from that original trailer – yes, the cheerleader on the trampoline bit actually made it into the real movie.
Let’s eat. Preview a few bloody kills in the Thanksgiving teaser trailer below.
The film, an expansion of Roth’s faux trailer seen in Grindhouse (2007), will be released in theaters worldwide by TriStar Pictures and Spyglass Media Group (Scream).

Sixteen years after director Eli Roth contributed the faux slasher trailer Thanksgiving to the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, a feature expansion of the concept is currently in production. Roth celebrated his birthday on set earlier this week, and has taken to social media to share some pictures that were taken on the big day – including one that shows him surrounded by Thanksgiving cast members! Scroll through these images, past the shots of goat yoga and turkey cake, to see the cast:

Roth has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving ever since he put together the faux trailer. He even wrote the screenplay with Jeff Rendell (who played the homicidal pilgrim in the trailer) a dozen years ago. Now it’s finally happening, thanks to Spyglass Media stepping in to provide the funding.
