Although Goonies never say die, there are few other words to describe the hopes for a potential sequel.
Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton, who starred together in Steven Spielberg‘s The Goonies (1985), recently responded to reports that a sequel to the beloved movie is in the works with the original cast expected to return.
“2’Sday, Is #GOONIES2 Real?! EVERY1 Is Asking…I Can Officially Tell U 100% No! I Hav No Info That A Sequel Is In The Worx,” wrote Feldman on X, promoting the long-awaited premiere of his 2004 film The Birthday.
Plimpton also shot down the news while using the opportunity to engage fans in their civic duty. “People, there is no Goonies 2 script, there is no one ‘attached,’ Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real,” she shared in a post on Instagram. “What Is real is Check Your Registration And Vote!!!!”

The Goonies is a 1985 adventure comedy about a bunch of kids trying to save their homes from foreclosure; they succeed after an unlikely series of events involving pirate gold, organized crime, and of course, friendship. The movie stars the likes of Sean Astin (who went on to be Sam in The Lord of the Rings), Josh Brolin (who went on to be Thanos in the MCU), Ke Huy Quan (who won an Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once), Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green and Martha Plimpton. The cast have agreed in the past that a sequel seems pretty much inevitable, but it hasn't happened yet...or has it?
No!...I think. The Sun spread a rumor earlier this month that the cast were reuniting for sequel all these years later, and cast members are now denying it in the strongest terms...while at least one of them pulls for it to happen.

Sad news for fans of “The Goonies” as a viral report claiming a sequel to Richard Donner’s 1985 classic is in development is not true. At least not at this time. The Sun claimed earlier this month that “The Goonies 2” would be filmed next summer with many of the original cast returning, but actors such as Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton members shut down the report.
“People, there is no ‘Goonies 2’ script, there is no one ‘attached,'” Plimpton wrote on Instagram. “Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real. What Is real is Check Your Registration And Vote!!!!”
Feldman added in a post on X (formerly twitter) that he had “no information” whatsoever that a sequel was in development.
It appears one would have to go back to 2014 for the last time there was serious buzz about “The Goonies 2” being developed. Variety reported at the time that...

According to numerous reports in UK tabloids, the greenlight has been given for a sequel to the 1980s classic The Goonies.
Considering this has been on the cards for many years in Tinseltown, we like to take this news with a pinch of salt. However, according to The S*n and ‘its sources’, “The plan is to start developing the ideas for the follow-up next summer, with a possible release date of 2026 or 2027.”
“The original is so culturally significant, Warner Bros’ knows they have to get it totally right.
“Major stars will likely come back but the possibilities of where to take the sequel are endless.”
If the story is true, production is likely to commence next summer for a 2026/2027 release.
For our part, we recently spoke to Joe Pantoliano about the idea of a Goonies sequel, and how the original film has endured. His answer is below, at the time-stamped link.

One of John Candy’s 80s classics from director Carl Reiner, Summer Rental, was pretty elusive on physical media. Fans of this comedy don’t have to wait any longer as the boutique label Kino Lorber will now be releasing a new Blu-ray transfer of the film sometime this year. Blu-ray.com is reporting that Summer Rental will be hitting retailers in late 2024.
The 1985 comedy stars John Candy, Karen Austin, Kerri Green, Joey Lawrence, and Aubrey Jene. The plot description reads, “After air traffic controller Jack Chester loses a plane (it’s covered on his screen by a fly), he’s told to take a break. Jack books his family into a plush resort, but it turns out that their lodgings are in a hut by the beach, and that’s as good as the vacation gets.” Reiner would direct another summer-themed comedy with Mark Harmon, Summer School, just a couple years later.

When Steve Spielberg’s The Goonies set sail in 1985, the world was unaware of the cast’s lasting appeal and power in the film industry. Featuring Hollywood legends like Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan, The Goonies feels like a rare Hollywood treasure any pioneering filmmaker would endure boobytraps to have created.
In today’s video, we’ll explore The Goonies cast, including the fascinating twists and career moves of Feldman, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen, Joe Pantoliano, Robert Davi, and Anne Ramsey. Regardless of where they ended up, The Goonies cast helped create one of Hollywood’s most iconic coming-of-age adventures to explore the silver screen. The Goonies’ legacy and influence on films that follow in its footsteps cannot be understated. Many filmmakers cite the nostalgic thrill ride as inspiration for The Monster Squad, Stranger Things, Super 8, It, and many more.

Now this was a damn good Oscar Night.
The 95th Academy Awards show sure helped dispel the bad odor of the past few years. Watching the In Memoriam interlude last year, as a cheerleader squad honored dead people by singing “Spirit in the Sky,” I said aloud, “This show can’t possibly get any worse.” But saying this on Oscar Night is like a Mel Brooks movie where someone says, “At least it’s not raining.” Reader, it got worse. But this year was the zippiest, most fun Oscar bash in ages.

And it’s insane that I, at one point, would try a different name, not the name that was given to me, but it can only show you how desperate I was to try to make things different.”

Last week, we posted a list of five forgotten actors we’d like to see make a comeback, and the reaction was so strong, we decided to post a bunch more! There’s a ton of forgotten actors from the 80s and 90s we’d love to have back on our screen, so let’s take a look at another group of them today.
Kelly Jo Minter
Let’s start with a horror favorite and a regular presence on the convention circuit, Kelly Jo Minter. Most folks will remember her from A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, The People Under the Stairs, and a slew of television series appearances. She was everywhere for a while in the 1980s and 1990s, then projects started becoming further and further apart, with nothing between 2008 and 2019, then nothing since. This actress is beloved by many people, and she should get a new part,...

It’s been a tough year for many. So in separate announcements, basketball legend Michael Jordan and the cast of The Goonies are stepping up to channel funding toward feeding the hungry.
Jordan will be donating $2 million from his HBO retrospective The Last Dance to the Feeding America charity and its member food banks in Chicago and Charlotte, North Carolina. Jordan played 15 seasons in the NBA, the bulk of them with the Chicago Bulls. He won six championships and is generally considered the greatest player in the league’s history. He now owns the league’s Charlotte Hornets franchise.
An incredible gift to be thankful for – NBA legend Michael Jordan is donating $2 million to help our neighbors facing hunger! #TheLastDance

Let’s just take a second to go around the table and play “Oh hey’ that’s that person from that film that came out that year…” First up we have Elisa Donovan, remember her? She was Amber in Clueless, the movie and TV show… Then Kerri Green, you know Andy from The Goonies, the one that kissed Sean Astin by accident… Who remembers that one asshole from Cabin Fever, he was last one standing because he only drank beer (Joey Kern)… Oh snap is that the rookie/baddie from Paul Blart Mall Cop? Yup that’s Keir O’Donnell… Who remembers the Yellow Ranger from Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, oh and also Cabin Fever, Cerina Vincent? You guessed it, she’s in this movie… I seem to have forgotten what my point was to this opening.

"She is never, ever allowed in my house again!" Dust Bowl Pictures has debuted a brand new official trailer for an indie drama titled Complacent, written & directed by filmmaker Steven R. Monroe (I Spit on Your Grave). Strangely this film is listed on IMDb as originally premiering in 2012, but I can't find any info as to where it premiered then, even though it's only just now getting a release (8 years later...?). It definitely looks like it was made years ago... Expect a Splash next week from Josh Gad’s Reunited Apart YouTube series: Cast and producers of the classic 1984 mermaid comedy will get together – remotely – on Tuesday for the third installment of Gad’s reunion series.
Gad just posted a new teaser for the series, confirming what an earlier, briefer, wordless teaser hinted at: A Splash reunion. In the earlier, 11-second wordless teaser posted by Gad on May 20, a mermaid’s tail fin surfaces then sinks back into the sea.
The new teaser, set to the tune of Sam the Sham’s “Wooly Bully,” displays the Splash logo and the date and time of the reunion episode. Though neither teaser names names, the Splash reunion is expected to include director Ron Howard, producer Brian Grazer, and the principal cast. The comedy, of course, starred Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah and Eugene Levy. (Cast member John Candy died in 1994).
Watch both teasers below.

Josh Gad reunited the cast of the 1985 comedy movie for the first episode of his Reunited Apart series, with talent involved including Josh Brolin, Kerri Green, Corey Feldman and Jeff Cohen. Also making an appearance was Steven Spielberg, who wrote the original story and served as executive producer on the movie — and, as he shared, also worked to keep director Richard Donner on his toes.

The Goonies, a movie that introduced us to Sloth, Chunk, the Truffle Shuffle and the first documented instance of Joey Pants’ surprising toupee reveals, will celebrate its 35th anniversary this year. A project surely blessed by the dream team of Richard Donner, Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus in the mid-80s, The Goonies has lost none of its charm in the decades since its release.
Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, industry vets are still finding a way to reach audiences under social distancing and lockdown measures, and The Goonies will definitely have an outlet to begin it’s 35th birthday early, thanks to Beauty and the Beast and Avenue 5 star Josh Gad, who is bringing the main cast of the film back together for a reunion special.

Back in the 80s Corey Feldman and Corey Haim were a couple of fun-loving teenage heartthrobs that gained fame as they starred in a few films together. Some of those films included The Lost Boys, Licence to Drive, and Dream a Little Dream. The two actors became very close friends and remained friends up until Haim's death in 2010.
The two actors have gone through a lot together growing up in the Hollywood system and their story is going to be told in a Lifetime biopic called A Tale of Two Coreys which Feldman himself is supporting.
The film will follow the troubled and dark lives of the two Corey's who both struggled with drug addiction and sexual abuse. Haim was reportedly raped at 11-years-old and all of the horrific abuse that he had gone through led to his death.
Feldman talked about the biopic in an interview with Yahoo, saying:...

The Goonies celebrates its 30th birthday today, and even after all these years we still adore this '80s classic.
Rumours have been swirling for some time about a Goonies 2 (make it happen, Hollywood!) with all the original cast returning, so with this in mind we take a trip down memory lane to find out what the stars of the cult classic are doing now.
Sean Astin
Sean Astin played the slightly dorky yet bright, braces-clad Mikey - who attempts to leads his fellow adventurers to One-Eyed Willy's hidden fortune upon his discovery of an old treasure map.
The 44-year-old actor has continued to enjoy movie success with his role as Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Astin also played Lynn McGill in hit Fox TV series 24, provides the voice of Raphael in Nickelodeon's TV version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012), and recently appeared in Guillermo del Toro...

Whether you saw it in the theaters in the 80s, or watching it dozens of times while it played on HBO in the 90s, The Goonies has become an essential part of the childhood movie diet. That’s pretty impressive for a film that includes that many pre-teen curse words, sexual references and dangerous situations. Billed as a collaboration between producer Steven Spielberg and director Richard Donner, it was one of the few hits from the 80s that didn’t get an immediate sequel. Whether you’re still waiting around for that sequel – and whether you think that sequel is a good idea or not – you can still enjoy The Goonies in a variety of home video formats. Back when the DVD was released in the 2001, the cast reunited with Richard Donner to provide a commentary track that has been preserved on subsequent Blu-ray releases. Even though the commentary track is almost as old now as the...

Hey you guyssss! Fans of the cult classic The Goonies got into a tizzy over the weekend when its director, Richard Donner, revealed that a sequel is in the works. They weren't the only ones abuzz, though. Its star Sean Astin joined the excitement via Twitter on Saturday, April 5. "Huh? What? #Goonies 2," Astin, 43, wrote. "We Never Say Die!" Astin, 14 when the movie was released, starred in the 1985 blockbuster smash alongside Josh Brolin, Raising Hope's Martha Plimpton, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, and [...]...

According to director Richard Donner- the man who brought us Superman: The Movie, the Lethal Weapon series, The Omen, and- of course- The Goonies- a sequel to the 1985 classic in the works. Of course, he can probably form a tag team with Dan Aykroyd, because both have had a penchant for drumming up interest for sequels to Goonies and Ghostbusters, respectively, for many years now. It was recently announced Akyroyd’s pipe dream will become a reality soon, and now Donner seems dead serious about his Goonies sequel.
Unprovoked, and unannounced, while being hounded by a TMZ camera man, he volunteered the following information:
He was asked if he’d ever make a comic book movie- since he’s the man that pioneered the genre back in 1978- and he bluntly said, “If you call ‘Goonies’ a comic book.” When the photographer acts surprised, Donner- again- blankly states,...

"Goonies" never say die.
This is also true of sequel talk, since in the years since the 1986 comedic adventure was released, there has been endless speculation about a potential follow-up (and a 1987 Nintendo game sequel from Konami that involved the gang rescuing a captured mermaid, amongst other nonsense). Over the weekend, though, original director Richard Donner sort-of confirmed that a sequel was, indeed, in the works.
While being gently harassed by a pushy TMZ photographer (watch below) about whether or not he would do another comic book movie, Donner, who also directed "Lethal Weapon," "The Omen," and "Scrooged" (amongst others), shot back with, "Depends if you call 'Goonies' a comic book movie. We're doing a sequel." When someone else who was clustered around Donner asked, "Are any of the stars going to return?" Donner answered: "Hopefully all of them." Somewhere, Corey Feldman is very, very excited.

It's funny how so many on the Internet love to lament the lack of original storytelling in movies as sequels and reboots dominate the landscape. But mention some movie that was loved during the mid-'80s, when so many of today's movie-obsessed Internet commenters and bloggers grew up, and suddenly it's as if not only is a sequel something they want, but it becomes something to celebrate. Unfortunately your browser does not support IFrames. The latest such unnecessary, but "exciting" development is The Goonies director Richard Donner telling the gossip site TMZ.com, "We're doing a sequel," and when asked who from the original cast is coming back his response was all-inclusive, "Hopefully all of them!" Oh, yes, hopefully. The last time I remember hearing about a possible Goonies II was about seven years ago when Sean Astin made mention of a story that would center around the children of the original cast.

For pretty much all of us here at HeyUGuys, The Goonies was an absolute staple of our childhoods (So much so we even named our beloved website after it!). It was an instant classic quite unlike anything before or since. Talk of a sequel has been circulating for years, but now director Richard Donner himself says that it’s happening.
In an interview with TMZ, Donner was asked if he was planning on making another comic book movie, and he replied:
If you call Goonies a comic book. We’re doing a sequel.
And not only that, but he went on to say that he’s hoping that all of the original cast will return.
The original 1985 classic was of course led by Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Jonathan Ke Quan, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, and Martha Plimpton, with the late John Matuszak playing Sloth.

Although Richard Donner's 1985 modern children's classic The Goonies did receive a sequel in video game form (pictured to the left), fans have, for years, been teased with the possibility of the big screen return for Mikey, Stef, Data, Mouth, Brand, Chunk, Andy and Sloth. Now, nearly three decades after the original was released, Donner tells TMZ (via Variety ) that The Goonies II may finally be happening. .If you call .Goonies. a comic book," Donner responded when asked if he would ever make another comic book film. Goonies never say die. And neither does "Goonies" director Richard Donner, apparently. After years of rumors about a sequel to the Steven Spielberg-produced 1985 hit about pint-sized treasure hunters, Donner says that it's really happening. Donner -- who hasn't directed a film since the Bruce Willis bomb "16 Blocks" in 2006 -- told TMZ "We're doing a sequel." When asked which cast members will return, he answered, "Hopefully, all of them." Take Donner's claim with a grain of salt, however, as the film's now-grown actors, including "Lord of the Rings" star Sean Astin, have been making similar claims for years now. "Goonies" also starred Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jonathan Ke Quan, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green and Martha Plimpton. It grossed $61 million in the U.S., making it one of the 10 biggest box office hits of that year (which also included "Back to the Future," "Rocky IV" and "Rambo: First Blood Part II...

Filmmaker Richard Donner has dropped something of a bombshell with news that he's making a sequel to his classic 1985 adventure film "The Goonies".
TMZ was with Donner in person when he confirmed they are doing a sequel. Asked if any of the original film's stars are coming back, he said "hopefully all of them".
Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Jonathan Ke Quan, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen, Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano starred in the original about a group of kids set out on an adventure in search of pirate treasure that could save their homes from foreclosure.
Two of the original cast members, Anne Ramsey (Mama Fratelli) and John Matuszak (Sloth) have since passed away. Brolin, Astin, Plimpton, Davi and Pantoliano are all still busy working actors to this day. Green only occasionally acts and now produces films as well, Cohen has become an entertainment lawyer, and...

Technically the series’ third season, this is Cinemax’s second as the producing entity, and they continue to show why no one even talks about that initial UK season any more. What is it about the coming-of-age movie? Is there any other kind of film that can hit so many sweet and bittersweet spots, or transport you back to a time when all that mattered was that secret crush and who was taking you to the senior prom? Personally, I wish there was a different name for this genre, as it always feels slightly like it’s describing movies about puberty or someone’s Bar Mitzvah. But that aside, these movies for me — and I’m sure for a lot of you — are the ones I tend to be attracted to...

The aim here is not to nitpick or criticize. It is simply to indulge in affectionate thought experiments and tangents related to movies that I have enjoyed over the years. What are the unspoken motivations, the unexplored avenues, and the seemingly insignificant details that lie between the frames? Oh, and if you have not seen the movies I write about in this column, you are a little behind the times, but I offer a spoiler warning regardless.

Congratulations to our Noni on a quarter century in the movies. Twenty-five years ago yesterday her first film (Lucas) hit movie theaters. Jump forward a quarter century and here she is again; Black Swan hits DVD today as if celebrating that very silver screen anniversary. People will be popping in the Black Swan DVD and Blu-Ray all over the place today and there she'll be, glass raised perversely. On her own behalf?
Oh sure, it's an in-character moment as "Beth", retiring prima ballerina, but don't think for a second that Black Swan's casting wasn't carefully orchestrated for the mirror affect of all those dark pale beauties not to mention the the cruel passing of the stardom and movie goddess batons.
I bring up this unpublicized anniversary because Noni could use a little public love... or at least Hollywood could use a public reminder that she still has many fans.

When was the last time you longed to explore a spectacular underground realm of twisting passages, outrageous booby-traps and a long-lost pirate ship full of golden doubloons? It was probably around the same time you last sighed hopelessly about a girl in your class, when social networking sites, mobile phones and I-pods weren’t corrupting your adult life, even if they are pleasant distractions from death, debt and Jeremy Kyle.
There are some, however, that still hold on to that dream. I often wake, head hurting from last night’s Vino, the thought of work buried in the deepest, darkest part of my duvet, asking myself what difference it would make if instead of going to work I would unfurl that mysterious treasure map and head off to Astoria. Wouldn’t it be great to go on a Goonie adventure? Wouldn’t it be great if the Goonies went on another adventure?...

The movie is still great entertainment loaded with the perfect mix of adventure, comedy and action.
