Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here) is set to reach theatres on Wednesday, December 25th – and today, a poster for the film has arrived online. It features the vampire character Count Orlok, but it doesn’t want to give too much away about him just yet, keeping him shrouded in darkness. You can take a look at the poster at the bottom of this article.
An unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the original Nosferatu has the following synopsis: In this highly influential silent horror film, the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summons Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife, Ellen (Greta Schroeder). After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle,...

The vampire subgenre has been at the forefront of horror for over 100 years, and the myths of undead creatures living off of human blood go back countless years further. The best vampire movies ever made are, mostly, incredibly varied. There’s a whole lot of great “Dracula” movies out there, sure, but also art-house nightmares, mainstream action movies, silly comedies, Neo-westerns, heartwarming romances and more. And if you ask us, these are the very, very best.
(Film Arts Guild) “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror” (1922)
F.W. Murnau’s eerie silent classic is 100 years old, and it still has the power to shock and horrify. Telling an extremely plagiarized version of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” – Stoker’s estate successfully sued, and nearly had every single copy of “Nosferatu” destroyed – the film stars Max Schreck as the verminous Count Orlok, who moves from his haunted castle to Germany, and brings a supernatural plague along with him.

Christoph Waltz was intrigued by the romantic element of 'Dracula: A Love Tale'.The Oscar-winning actor features in Luc Besson's upcoming horror movie as the priest and revealed that the reimagining of Bram Stoker's classic novel as a doomed love story was instrumental in him joining the cast.Speaking to Collider, Christoph said: "I wanted to work with Luc and this angle on 'Dracula'. I read the novel; I really think the novel is a drag. It's boring, it's flat. It's popular because it was popular in the late 19th century."There have been 'Dracula' movies before. It needs to be seen clearly, but I wanted to work with Luc and Luc's – it's more than an angle, it's more than an approach – Luc's idea of the vision of the story is that 'Dracula' is a love story. So, that's wonderful."Christoph is...

Winona Ryder talks about her “husband” and is the envy of the world.
It was well over a decade ago when Winona Ryder confirmed the Beetlejuice sequel. Now, it’s finally here.
While promoting Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Winona is discussing another classic film of her: the iconic 1992 Bram Stoker’s Dracula with Keanu Reeves.
Part of the legacy of that film is that she calls Keanu her “husband” and he calls her his “wife.”

Before you say “big deal, we all refer to Keanu Reeves as our ‘husband,'” remember two things:
One, that Winona Ryder is saying it in Keanu’s texts, not whispering it at her screen.

Winona Ryder is suiting up in the goth blacks again as she reprises her role as Lydia Deets in the upcoming sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Our Eic, Chris Bumbray, had a blast with the film, saying in his recent review, “In it, Burton is wise enough to play the hits to a certain extent, as it is not all that different from the original. Yet, by doing a movie that’s so deliberately old school, with practical effects, rude humor, and Way more gore than you’d expect from a PG-13 movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice almost feels transgressive by how much it plays to the strengths of its director and cast, and discards the trappings of most modern blockbusters.”

There’s a saying that “matches are made in heaven” However, if Francis Ford Coppola makes one here on earth who would even think of denying it? Such was the case of Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves who played Mina and Jonathan Harker in Coppola’s 1992 Gothic horror “Dracula”. In an interview relating to her recent appearance in the movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Ryder revealed that Keanu and she still call each other husband and wife to this day.

Count Dracula made his debut in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel but the Count's presence on the silver screen has been just as vital in making him a horror icon. Bela Lugosi, Sir Christopher Lee, Gary Oldman, and Nicolas Cage are just a few of the actors who've played Dracula. With the dozens of Dracula movies out there, what's the cream of the crop? We've got you covered with /Film's choices for the best Dracula movies.
But the vampire lord's adventures don't end at movies; he is just as much a creature of the funny books. He's quite similar to Frankenstein's Monster that way, who has also starred in plenty of comics. Dracula has faced superheroes on both sides of the Marvel/DC divide, from Batman to Wolverine (rapid healing blood is the most delicious).
Argentinian cartoonist Alberto Breccia turned Dracula into a gothic comedy bravely satirizing the fascist Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.

If anyone had a particularly surreal Venice in 2023, it was Caleb Landry Jones.
Not only was the actor on the Lido for barely 24 hours — for the world premiere of Luc Besson’s “DogMan” in which he played a cross-dressing vigilante-thief with a pack of canines at his command — but the 34-year-old had effectively been yanked from a muddy film set on the top of a mountain in Scotland early one morning, flown to Italy, put in a shirt, ferried from press conference to red carpet, flown back to Scotland the next day and driven to the top of a mountain to shoot a crucial scene.
“I was in Venice, but all I was thinking about was this really important scene I had to do,” he says. “And I kept falling asleep in the screening and trying to wake up and Luc would be like, ‘Man, it’s ok, go to sleep,...

Lionsgate yanked the trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s ambitious sci-fi Megalopolis from circulation this week after it was revealed that included quotations from several prominent movie critics that turned out to be fabricated.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer, released online on Wednesday, began with skin-peeling critiques of The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Fabricated Quotes aAnd Apologies
True genius is often misunderstood,” says a narrator at the beginning of the trailer, before informing us that Coppola ‘was ahead of his time’ right from the start.
The trailer then weaves in footage of supposedly panning reviews written by such famous (and fictitious) critics as Pauline Kael, Andrew Sarris, and Roger Ebert. Kael is quoted as saying The Godfather, Coppola’s best picture-winning crime drama, was ‘diminished by its artsiness’.
But it didn’t take social media long to observe that none of these quotes appeared in any of the actual reviews.

There were a lot of factors involved in the success of Bram Stoker’s seminal 1897 novel, Dracula, but the simple, dramatic power of the writing was not one of them. It meanders, it drifts, it sacrifices prose style to form, it is too concerned with showcasing assorted scientific and supernatural wonders to focus on making each individual page grip. There is an exception to this general weakness, however, and that is the chapter concerned with the legendary Count’s voyage to England aboard the Demeter. Presented within the epistolary format as the captain’s log, this chapter is an exercise in how to tell a simple story well. It’s the most chilling part of the book and has long appealed to filmmakers, playing a brief but memorable role in 1922 adaptation...

The rumor that Salem's Lot, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, will be released on Max instead of in theaters has been confirmed. The movie will be released on the platform later this year.
The movie will debut in October 2024, but there is no exact release date yet. Salem's Lot spent about two years on the shelf: in the summer of 2022, Warner Bros. postponed the premiere to April 21, 2023, and then news about it stopped coming at all. Hours after releasing the second trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis on Wednesday, red-faced Lionsgate marketing executives pulled the asset after it reportedly contained fabricated snippets of unfavourable reviews of the filmmaker’s early canon.
“Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis,” a spokesperson for the studio said. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.”

Megalopolis Trailer: Francis Ford Coppola Aims To Pass The Test Of Time With Adam Driver Sci-Fi Epic
Update: In a uniquely strange turn of events, Lionsgate have now pulled the latest trailer for Megalopolis from all platforms due to controversy surrounding fabricated critic quotes featured within it. In a statement given to Variety, a spokesperson said the following: “Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis. We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.”
Do you remember that one time the marketing team for Tom Hardy's Krays movie Legend took a two-star review and hid it in the poster, sneakily making it look like a five-star recommendation? Well, no such subtleties are to be found in the latest trailer for Francis Ford Coppola's self-funded sci-fi epic Megalopolis, which sees the man behind The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and Bram Stoker's Dracula take aim...

Update: That was quick. Lionsgate has decided to pull the trailer for Megalopolis due to the made-up quotes which appear. “Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis,” said a Lionsgate spokesperson. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. Lionsgate dropped the new trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis earlier today. The trailer begins with quotes from negative reviews of Coppola’s previous movies, such as The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, seemingly positioning Megalopolis as another future classic. That’s all well and good, except for the fact that the quotes appear to have been made up. Uh oh.
The Megalopolis trailer includes a quote from iconic critic Pauline Kael, who is cited as saying that The Godfather is “diminished by its artsiness.

"True genius is often misunderstood," begins the new Megalopolis trailer, a sentiment that could just as easily apply to the character Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver) as it does to the film's director, Francis Ford Coppola. In this case, though, it's specifically about Coppola, as the trailer highlights the (potentially fake?...

Sometimes, the wrong movies get all of the credit. The Sixth Sense has become famous for its shocking twist. It would have been a lot more shocking if a cult classic movie didn’t pull off the same twist decades earlier.
‘The Sixth Sense’ has the same twist as a classic horror movie
The 1990s were a terrible time for horror movies. For every good 1990s horror film like Scream or The Blair Witch Project, the decade churned out several duds like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Leprechaun, or Bram Stoker’s Dracula. In that context, The Sixth Sense looked a lot better than it actually was. The story is drawn out, humorless, and overly somber. The overall mood of The Sixth Sense is more depressing than scary.

The latest film from The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers‘ is a remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here), and Focus Features will be giving the film “a prime holiday season release” when they bring it to theatres on Wednesday, December 25th. Anticipation levels are high for this one, so we have decided to put together a list of Everything We Know about this version of Nosferatu:
Plot
Nosferatu tells a familiar story.

Pennywise the Clown is arguably horror author Stephen King’s most famous creation. During an interview, he discussed the impact his novel It will have on popular culture after his death. His take on the situation seems a little myopic. The Carrie author doesn’t take his cinematic legacy into account as much as he should.
Stephen King said Pennywise the Clown will be around forever
During a 2022 interview with Bloody Disgusting, King revealed that he viewed Pennywise as his sturdiest creation. “I think that when I die I will kind of disappear from the paperback racks,” he opined. “But that f****** clown is going to live forever. That’s one thing I’ve got going for me.”
While King has written several sequels over the years, he won’t write a sequel to It. “Well, I don’t have a relationship to Pennywise now,” King said. “Because I have...

Dracula-adjacent horror The Last Voyage Of The Demeter is only just getting a cinema screening in the UK, over a year after it screened into in the US. A look at its mysterious absence from our screens:
This week, on 11th August, it’s precisely one year since the supernatural horror The Last Voyage Of The Demeter debuted in US cinemas. Although hardly the most expensive film in the world, it still had a bit of a price tag for it. Blumhouse it wasn’t, with the final negative of the movie costing a reported $45m.
Universal Pictures released the film in American cinemas, and in truth, it didn’t land with much of a splash. The critical response sailed in the direction of two and three star reviews, although that’s hardly out of the ordinary for supernatural horrors. Nonetheless, it had more profile than your standard horror-ish release,...

It goes without saying that Keanu Reeves is one of the nicest blokes in Hollywood. Since his debut in showbiz back in the late ’80s, there have been several stories about The Matrix star being an upstanding dude, and the consensus isn’t looking to change anytime soon if ever.
Winona Ryder, who shares a long history with Reeves and even is married in the eyes of the Romanian church, recalled one such story about the actor. During their time together on Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula, Ryder revealed Reeves went against the director’s request to protect her.

Francis Ford Coppola is known for going to extreme lengths with his films and doesn’t shy away from pushing actors to their limits to get the most authentic performance.

Keanu Reeves has had an interesting career since the 90s and has been labeled one of the bonafide action heroes in Hollywood. Instead of the macho, indestructible type of heroes presented by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, Reeves’s heroes are vulnerable yet are determined to overcome all obstacles.

These traits are seen in films such as Point Break, Speed, Matrix, and the John Wick films. Outside of his action films, Reeves is not considered a strong dramatic performer and many have criticized his acting abilities in films such as Much Ado About Nothing, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Another failed attempt at an intriguing thriller was 2015’s Knock Knock where his unconvincing performance was exposed.

Vampires have been stalking our collective imagination from the dark corners for centuries, and they show no sign of slowing down. Interview with the Vampire is going strong on AMC+, and Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is coming out as a creepy Christmas treat. Do I even need to mention The Count on Sesame Street?
So this week on Bloody FM’s Guide to the Unknown, we look back at the history of this category of nocturnal baddie, starting way back in the day when people confused buried, gas-bloated corpses as being disturbingly alive and well – so disturbing that they must be unholy.
We then zoom forward in time to discuss the story of a rumored vampire that whipped the public into a frenzy rivaling Twilight Mania: the story of The Highgate Vampire.

“Star Wars: The Acolyte” is the latest and most controversial release in the franchise. It has received a mix of review-boosting and review-bombing from both fans and critics, making it difficult to form an objective opinion on the show’s overall quality.

Cameras are now rolling on director Luc Besson's new take on Dracula, with his DogMan star Caleb Landry Jones on board to play the legendary Transylvanian Count.
The movie is titled Dracula: A Love Tale, and is described as a “a big-budget reimagining” of the vampire's origin story.
Deadline has shared a first look at the movie, giving us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Jones in his armor, presumably as a pre-vampire Prince Vlad "The Impaler" Tepes.
“It’s a totally romantic approach,” Besson says of his adaptation. “There’s a romantic side in Bram Stoker’s book that hasn’t been explored that much. It’s a love story about a man who waits for 400 years for the reincarnation of his wife. That’s the true heart of the story, waiting an eternity for the return of love.”

A theory I will variously expound upon is the extent to which Michael Mann's Manhunter is akin to Bram Stoker's Dracula but his loyal servant. There are a series of parallels in terms of how bleeding-edge it all is, even the way that new technologies like photography and electric light help with the pursuit. Transport too, though rail timetables are replaced by jet age fare like Lears and "anything smoking". Letters remain, but they've become encrypted.
Longlegs has written ten of them. They give their name to Part One, His Letters. After a sequence framed as if vintage film, a pre-credits sequence ending in red that stretches from the not-quite one-to-one of home movies when movies and homes meant something different to film the screen. Being recognized as one of the sex symbols of the modern acting industry, Eva Green is definitely very much of a skilled horror performer.
It’s proved by her fruitful collaborations with Tim Burton that include dark comedy Dark Shadows (2012) and gothic fantasy Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016).
Green’s talent for depicting mysterious women with supernatural abilities shines even brighter in a TV show that was unfairly forgotten by the audience. It’s still hailed by fans who claim every horror veteran should immediately put it on their watchlist.
Set in Victorian London, it starts by introducing us to Sir Malcolm, a witty explorer whose daughter goes missing, and he blames the city’s mysterious creatures for it.
That’s why he teams up with seductive clairvoyant Vanessa (played by Green) who promises to help him to find his daughter and to catch some monsters in the way.

Mike Flanagan has become the most important horror filmmaker of our time. In 2018, he signed a deal with Netflix, which gave him the long-awaited opportunity to create an anthology work.
He directed and wrote The Haunting of Hill House, a series that brought incredible success to Flanagan and had amazing ratings for streaming. Even the master of the horror industry, Stephen King, called it a work of genius.
Since then, Flanagan has been delighting fans of horror every fall with a miniseries with a special, creepy atmosphere that is conveyed not by fountains of blood, but by masterfully written dialogue and brilliant direction.
At the same time, most of his works are adaptations of novels in a modern way or in a new form. For example, The Haunting of Hill House is a loose interpretation of Shirley Jackson's novel of the same name, and The Fall of the House of Usher...

Long considered the ur-text for the depiction of vampirism in fiction, Bram Stoker’s Dracula may be the most influential (the “trope-creator”), but it was far from the first. Sheridan Le Fanu's 1872 novel, Carmilla, preceded Stoker’s by more than two decades, but even Le Fanu’s novel doesn’t qualify. That title likely falls to Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy’s (Tsar Boris, Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich, The Death of Ivan the Terrible) lesser-known 1839 novella, The Family of the Vourdalak, The Vampire. Direct adaptations of Tolstoy’s novella have been few and far between, first as part of Mario Bava’s 1963 anthology film, Black Sabbath, and later as The Night of the Devils 11 years later. Both took liberties with Tolstoy’s novella, leaving a faithful – or more faithful – adaptation up for grabs. That, in...

The indie market is feeling pretty good. A big film from India Kalki 2898 Ad may unseat Rrr’s North American opening weekend. June Squibb-starrer Thelma is blowing through midweek shows and stands at $3.75 million heading into week 2 steady at 1,280 theaters. Searchlight Pictures Kinds Of Kindness by Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons jumps to 500 screens from five after the best limited opening of the year last weekend.
Annie Baker’s Janet Planet from A24 goes from 2 screens to 300 and a handful of interesting indies open in limited release from Catherine Breillat‘s Last Summer to Jake Paltrow’s June Zero. Things are still quite tough but there’s room for optimism. Not clear if that will last, but it’s nice..

Owning the rights to a number of famous movie monsters, Universal has from time to time tried to revive one or another classic hero or villain. In 2004, on the wave of success of the Mummy movies, Dracula and Frankenstein were pulled out of a dusty closet and director Stephen Sommers was given the task of combining them into one movie.
The merger took place in the fantasy action film Van Helsing, which pitted the title character against the Transylvanian vampire. The steampunk-style film initially disappointed critics and failed to impress viewers — Van Helsing now has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 24% and 57% respectively.
Van Helsing Has Become a Cult Project Over the Years
Over time, however, the film gained a cult following, with audiences appreciating that the Hugh Jackman flick was more reminiscent of an old-fashioned comic book movie, with all of your favorite heroes and villains on the big screen,...

Vampires are eternal, and so are movies about them. The genre shows no signs of going bloodless anytime soon, even if the oldest texts continue to inspire some of its most compelling entries. Consider writer-director Adrien Beau’s “The Vourdalak,” an adaptation of Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy’s 1839 “The Family of the Vourdalak,” a foundational novella that predates Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” by more than half a century. After premiering in Venice last year, the film arrives in theaters less than a week after the trailer for “The Witch” helmer Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” remake dropped — a coincidence, surely, but one that’s nevertheless emblematic of the ur-texts’ enduring influence.
“The Vourdalak” doesn’t exactly announce its blood-sucking bonafides, though the signs are all there. A stranger introducing himself as an emissary of the King of France (Kacey Mottet Klein) loses his way while traveling through a remote village and is refused...
