- Two fellow prisoners, one a renegade and another mild-mannered engineer, are released on a desert planet with barren resources. Repeatedly Kyne and Adams come into contact for a final showdown that will determine the communities fate.
- In sum, this plot follows many other sci-fiction futuristic tales of a post-apocalyptic society whose remnants fight over the scorched Earth. In this case, the Earth is a desert planet much like the Sahara or Mojave Desert. Similar to "The Road Warrior" "Waterworld" etc. the people are torn between being survivalists and trying to form some vision and some community for the future. Beyond simply a survivalist tale of good versus evil, this story has many valuable themes: man's nature towards good or evil versus environment shaping behavior, redemption, marriage and commitment, Biblical themes in the real world, etc.—Joe Klunder (joe.m.klunder@gmail.com)
- Prisoners are dumped on a sand planet dubbed Earth 21-523 where most are immediately killed by the sand people and the remainder struggle for existence. That is until a new prisoner arrives with ideas of providing irrigation of the desert. But he still must first fight the nomadic sand people.—John Sacksteder <jsackste@bellsouth.net>
- Onboard a prison ship, renegade Kyne and mild-mannered "cherry" Adams make an unlikely friendship. They are taken to a faraway planet to be released into the wilderness.
Immediately upon arriving, the Sand Pirates show their brutality through raiding. Kyne shows his fighting skills and street smarts by quickly killing several Sand Pirates and being allowed to join them.
Meanwhile, mild-mannered Adams quickly gets snapped up into slavery. He gets sold as a scavenger by the militant Ares, to the beautiful but practical Lily. She lives among a community of scavengers (SCAVS) that roam in search of small plants. Adams' intelligence and engineering education quickly allow him to find a polluted lake, turn it into potable water, and irrigate the land into fertile ground. Adams names this forming community "New Eden" and tries to create the remnants of society. Ares warns them that it will not last against the roaming Sand Pirates.
During this time, Kyne becomes more brutal, quickly rising to the leader of the Sand Pirates.
Kyne and the Sand Pirates meet Adams and the domesticated Scav community. Adams offers them a fair deal to trade, but instead, the Sand Pirates destroy what Adams works so hard to build.
Realizing that war is sometimes a necessary part of human existence, Adams begs Ares to teach him the arts of fighting and warfare. Ares trains him for months until he can become strong enough to fight the Sand Pirates and Kyne.
Adams returns home to a relieved Lily and the community, along with Ares who wishes to gives civilian life another chance. Adams trains the civilization to try and fight the Sand Pirates.
Meanwhile, Lily's son is roaming to see what the Sand Pirates are up to. He gets caught. Lily comes to rescue him but is caught as well. A daring rescue by Adams and Ares manages to destroy most of the fuel and vehicles and get the four of them out alive. Alas, the fuel is scant and soon they are left in the desert with no water.
To their surprise, the usual survivalist Scavs come to rescue Adams, Lily, Lily's son, and Ares in the middle of the desert, citing they are out to make a community. They return to their village and wait for the inevitable retaliation.
Sure enough, the Sand Pirates come to attack. Adams challenges Kyne to a duel but is quickly over-powered and quickly loses the fight. He is about to be executed when Lily attempts to save him, herself about to be killed alongside him. Although Adams and Ares were skeptical about the villager's desire and ability to fight, the villages cannot stand to see Adams and Lily be executed. They rise up and fight off the Sand Pirates. In the confusion, Adams picks up a nearby gun and kills Kyne. In his last strength, Kyne mentions that he was caught off guard with his blind spot, hence he still may have been a superior warrior.
In the final ending, Adams and Lily get married. This ceremony represents a New Eden, where man and woman can live together with both knowledge and peace.
