Danny de Munk, who played Bram in the movie All Stars (1997), did not return for the series, because of his work on Dutch musicals, which he would have to give up to join the cast, despite the insecurity whether the show would be produced after the pilot. The character was therefor recast with Roeland Fernhout playing Bram. Despite being portrayed as a traveling hotel buyer in the movie, the series portrayed Bram as a lawyer. His surname Van Megen was changed to Roodt.
At the start of season 2, the series underwent a major cast change, due to Roeland Fernhout, Daniël Boissevain and Thomas Acda leaving the series. Fernhout and Boissevain, who played Bram and Johnny, were replaced by Dirk Zeelenberg and Kees Boot. Acda's character Willem died in the first episode of season 2, only to have a few cameos as a ghost during the season, although he re-appeared in an episode of season 3 which was supposed to be a flashback. Dijn Blom also left the series after season 1, which resulted in the introduction of Katja Schuurman as Nadja.
Hero's full name is Hero van Dijk.
The series is a spin-off of the two year earlier movie All Stars, with the same cast and characters. A very similar story, also in Dutch about a talentless amateur soccer team, independently made in Belgium, catering for Flemish idiosyncrasies, also started as a motion Team Spirit, then got a spin-off series "Team spirit - de serie", a second movie "Team Spirit 2" and second season of the series, but slightly renamed "Team spirit - de serie II".
