From the CHM Collection: These Mice Have Tales, c. 1964–2000 The basic mouse design was perfected by Doug Engelbart and Bill English at Stanford Research Institute in 1964. Mice were mostly laboratory curiosities until mass-market graphical user interfaces appeared on personal computers in the mid-1980s. Since that time, there has been an explosion of different designs and concepts. The mice shown here span nearly five decades of design and trace the transition of these unique devices from mechanical, optical and other technologies.
