A historic milestone today in Dubai. The UAE consensus is the first-ever climate deal on fossil fuels. Could have not been achieved anywhere else. Luckily our region is committed to saving this #world.. BUT good luck stopping #greenhousegasemissions from the big nations because #greenhouse #gases are the #1 pollutant across the globe. Good luck telling #Germany to stop subsidizing the #coal mining sector Telling #Britain to revoke the new #oil and #gas exploration licenses they gave over the past two years Telling the #US to stop its ramping up of oil production Telling #France and #Italy stop their reliance on #fossilfuels mostly from #Africa #Doublestandards when the #industrial world tries to bully our region... Our region is far more advanced vs the industrial world which burnt down the #environment with 200 years of guzzling fossil #fuel to advance their economies... Meanwhile, our region is heavily investing in #renewables #renewableenergy #renewablepower #renewablefuture

The main highlight with COP28 has been the commitment to reduce the use of fossil fuels, one commitment that I feel is not getting enough credit is the UAE Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action. 134 countries, covering 70% of the world’s land, have signed the Emirates Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action, committing to integrate food into their climate plans by 2025. The declaration was signed by many countries with the highest food-related greenhouse gas emissions, including Brazil, China, the European Union, the United States. I am proud of my country Zimbabwe uniting with other countries and I can say the UAE delivered for farmers with the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate increasing support for agricultural innovation ad research from 8 Billion to 17 Billion to support innovation in agriculture. #COP28 #uniteactdeliver #partnerships4growth

We warmly congratulate the COP28 UAE Presidency for The UAE Consensus, the landmark deal signed by almost 200 countries. The agreement forged over days of intense discussions between governments brings many opportunities for those energy and commodities companies — such as BGN — that are committed to supporting the energy transition. The race is on to decarbonize: through efficiency improvements, addressing emissions from fossil fuels, investing in renewables and the use of transitional fuels to accelerate the transition and ensure energy security. COP28 also underscored the importance of mobilizing finance for carbon removals and developing robust carbon crediting systems. Strengthening the integrity of voluntary carbon trading, and using this rapidly growing market to reinforce the emissions trading compliance market, should be a priority for policy makers and businesses. Congratulations also to Mundo Verde Climate for its important contributions to the side events around the summit, helping to put investment in renewables and nature-based projects for carbon crediting higher up the agenda. #COP28 #energytransition #carbontrading

This marks a moment of global solidarity for collective action. The UAE Consensus has been passed. The text recognises the need for deep, rapid and sustained reductions if humanity is to limit temperature rises to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. Together we can redefine economies to achieve a paradigm shift within planetary boundaries.

As Cop28 concludes in the UAE, we congratulate all those that worked together to achieve the historic UAE Consensus to accelerate climate action. Going forward, we will all need to play our part in converting these words into real and impactful actions. Standing ovation after 'world first' agreement at #COP28UAE!! “Let us finish what we have started," said COP28 President Sultan al-Jaber, as the room erupted in applause. "We have language on fossil fuels in our final agreement for the first time ever." He called it "historic". The deal is not legally-binding, but calls on all countries to move away from the use of fossil fuels, for the first time in almost 30 years of COP climate summits. New Scientist said: “For the first time in the history of the COP process, the phrase "fossil fuels" has appeared in a climate summit agreement, as part of a promise for the world to begin "transitioning away" from the leading cause of global warming!
