Dolly Parton Grew Up Focused on 3 Things. Faith Was One of Them.

Dolly Parton says she grew up focusing on faith, food and music.
“God, music and food were the three big things in our family,” Parton told Allrecipes.
She and her sister Rachel are sharing their love of all three in their new book, “Good Lookin’ Cookin’,” a cookbook that shares Parton family recipes.
“Filled with more than 80 delicious dishes as well as photographs of Dolly and Rachel cooking and hosting all year long, ‘Good Lookin’ Cookin’’ is a treasured cookbook that will make you feel like part of the Parton family,” a description of the book reads. “With their trademark warmth and sisterly love, Dolly and Rachel remind you that cooking doesn’t need to be serious — it should be fun! And always good lookin’!”
In addition to recipes, “Good Lookin’ Cookin’” also includes family stories and memories, like what home tastes like to the country music icon.
“I think home tastes like Mama,” Parton said. “I think you always link those childhood memories with certain childhood foods that you love and the people that prepare them for you.”
She continued, “I cook more like Mama — a handful of this, a handful of that. Rachel is also very creative, but she wants to make sure it’s going to taste good, too — she’s not as sloppy as I am.”
In an Instagram post about the cookbook, Parton wrote, “We dedicate this book to every person who has ever raided a garden, opened a refrigerator, held a spatula, or put a skillet or a pot on the stove to furnish love and nourishment to those they hold dear, and to those who believe that good food and good times are the next best thing to pure love.”
