Nefertiti is one of the most famous Egyptian queens, second only to Cleopatra. As she lived much earlier, however, Nefertiti’s story is quite mysterious.

Her husband went to great lengths to display her as an equal counterpart. In several reliefs she is shown wearing the crown of a pharaoh or smiting her enemies in battle. She is typically portrayed with a long, slender neck, almond-shaped eyes, and a high forehead. She often wears a tall, blue crown and a disk with the symbol of the sun god Aten. Nefertiti was more than just a pretty face. She was also a powerful and influential queen.

Flourishing in BC 14th century, Nefertiti was the queen of Egypt and wife of King Akhenaton (formerly Amenhotep IV; reigned 135336). Nefertiti played a prominent role in the rise of Aton, who became Egypt's dominant national god. Nefertiti continued to play an important religious role, serving as the female element in the divine triad formed by the god Aton, King Akhenaton, and his queen.
