New claims have surfaced regarding Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark’s friendship with a Mexican socialite following rumours of an alleged affair.

Speaking to Danish news outlet Ekstra Bladet in Copenhagen today, Crown Princess Mary suggested her four children could also find their titles at risk in the future.

This is clearly the same composition (though in oil paint) as Liotard’s posthumous pastel portrait of the Prince of c. 1754 (OM 579, 400893). This canvas is signed on the reverse ‘Luders fecit’ referring to David Lüders (c. 1710-59), a German artist in Britain 1748-55. Liotard must clearly have copied some previous image: it is possible that he copied this one but more likely that both artists are reproducing the design of some other unknown portrait taken from the life.
