New republic

New Republic Cruiser I designed for Star Wars: Ahsoka. Had a blast designing for this show with a fantastic team at Lucasfilm. We looked back through some of the original ship designs by Ralph Mcquarrie and Joe Johnston to capture the ROTJ-era aesthetic. Seeing the level ILM took my design to for the final VFX was incredible. This design sketch was previewed at ComicCon. Design Direction: Doug Chiang

The New Republic’s rise reduced the once-mighty Empire to a rump state hemmed in by strict disarmament treaties and punishing reparations. But in the galaxy’s Unknown Regions, former Imperial officers, nobles and technologists plotted a return to power, building fleets and armies in secret. This movement became the First Order, ruled by Supreme Leader Snoke, and is now ready to reclaim the Imperial legacy.

As with many hardcore Star Wars fans I was really intrigued by the description of this ship when I first read about it on the pages of the Aftermath series. Since then I’ve always wondered what it would look like and now thanks to FFG I know what it is and it’s awesome! So, it was a no-brainer for me when they asked if I’d like to do some art for it. New Republic troopers (also known as New Republic soldiers) were standard foot soldiers of the New Republic Defense Force. They were the successors to the Rebel troopers and were eventually converted into the Galactic Alliance Infantry Troopers. The New Republic troopers replaced the Rebel troopers in the months following the Battle of Endor and the formation of the New Republic.
