Update: As expected, the State of Play stream featured a good long look at new gameplay from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and saw the release of a demo for the game. The demo features the opening chapter of the game right now, but more content will be unlocked on 21st February.

Also, we’ve been hands on with the opening hours of the game, with Nic B sharing his impressions from exploring Kalm, playing the Queen’s Blood card game and more in our final preview before release.

The original post follow.

Sony has leaked that a Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo will be dropping today for PS5, most likely right after the State of Play stream dedicated to the game that is taking place tonight.

Found in the “Explore” section of the PS5 dashboard, the new trailer actually states that the FF7 Rebirth trailer is available right now, but this isn’t currently the case, with the video seemingly published in error.

The trailer was published at 4PM PT / 7PM ET / 12PM GMT, which is roughly the time that the State of Play stream is expected to end tonight, meaning that someone got muddled with their timezones and accidentally published the trailer a day early.

The trailer’s blurb reveals a little about what’s included:

Experience the power of choice! The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo is out now, allowing you to step into the shoes of either Cloud or Sephiroth during the Nibelheim episode. Uncover the opening chapter of the game’s story and explore the world map. Your adventure, your choice!”

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set to release exclusively for PS5 on 29th February.

I had a hands on with the game last September, and for our Final Fantasy VII Rebirth preview, I said, “The middle chapter in a trilogy is always a difficult prospect, but Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth looks like it’s absolutely pulling it off. The more open world areas are certainly going to be enticing after the linearity of Remake, while the new Synergy attacks add another avenue for over-the-top cinematic attacks to showcase the game’s graphics, and then there’s all the mini-games, story beats and locales that were teased within the release date trailer last week. Needless to say, anyone that enjoyed Final Fantasy 7 Remake needs to have Rebirth on their wishlist for 2024.”
