My friend is working on a kirtle class for Pennsic. I am made some pictures for her to use, trying to demonstrate the possible uses for a kirtle pattern once you've made one. We aren't pushing it as a period correct method of pattering, only as a possibility. I recently finished reading and translating an article by M.A. Saburova on medieval Russian garb. This article, published in 1997, provides an excellent overview of literature which had been written up to that date, and a collection of materials from a multitude of sources and various archeological finds. Here are some photos from Buckden Towers in December, taken by the gracious Rob Ross, of my pink cotehardie, c. 1409.
